Filming has started on the sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, and its taking place on English shores at London’s Shepperton Studios.
Directed this time by James Bobin, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass will tell an “all-new” tale that takes audiences back to Underland and back in time.
New cast members have been revealed, with Sacha Baron Cohen and Rhys Ifans joining the huge line-up. Burton will remain on board as executive producer, a Disney press release confirms.

4th August 2014 - Title Revealed
Principal photography is now underway on Walt Disney Pictures’ sequel to its live-action Alice in Wonderland movie, which grossed more than $1 billion worldwide in theaters back in 2010. Previously rumored to be titled Through the Looking Glass, the project’s official title (unsurprisingly) is one with greater brand recognition – namely, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.

22nd November 2013 - Mia Wasikowska Returning As Alice
Alice in Wonderland 2 will re-team Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska as the Mad Hatter and Alice. James Bobin (The Muppets), however, will take over directing duties from Tim Burton. The first film hit theaters in March of 2010 and went on to gross over $1 billion worldwide. May 2016 is also largely unclaimed territory, aside from an untitled Disney/Marvel release planned for May 6, 2016.

12th July 2013 - Johnny Depp Returning As Mad Hatter
Clearly Johnny Depp‘s reps are in publicity overdrive following a week of bruising bad press when The Lone Ranger bombed and his star status was questioned. The purpose, of course, is to demonstrate that Johnny is very much in demand. And he should be despite the public rejecting both his Tonto and Barnabas Collins roles recently. On Monday, Depp was tipped in negotiations for the lead in Lionsgate’s Mortdecai, an adaptation of the 1970s mystery novels. Today comes news that Depp has a ‘new’ multi-year first look deal at Disney to develop film projects he can produce there. Just one problem: my insiders say that deal (which used to be based at Warner Bros) was set and signed back with Disney in March, not recently, and just never announced. What is new is that Depp is in final discussions at Disney for the much anticipated Alice In Wonderland sequel with James Bobin (of the recent Muppets reboots) subbing for Tim Burton as director. Johnny’s turn as the Mad Hatter in that 3D modern classic, of course, made over $1B worldwide grosses for the studio in 2010. Old news is that Depp will reprise Capt Jack Sparrow in Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 dated for Summer 2015 and directed by Kon-Tiki filmmakers Joachim Rรธnning and Espen Sandberg.

Disney wants Alice to return to Wonderland.
Mouse House stalwart Linda Woolverton is penning a sequel to Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” the 2010 hit that starred Mia Wasikowska as Alice and Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. The 3D film went on to earn $1 billion worldwide and scored Oscars for art direction and costume design.
Woolverton has a long history with Disney, having previously written the studio’s “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey,” and “Maleficent,” and contributed to toons “Mulan” and “Aladdin.” Sequel’s plot details are under wraps, but first film was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and its sequel “Through the Looking-Glass,” with Alice fleeing real-world pressures by returning to Wonderland.
