Masters Of Sex - Matters Of Gravity - Review

AL Masters of Sex ReviewsJust as Bill and Virginia talk about how they were surprised that they were able to have a quiet evening to themselves, I thought to myself that something bad was about to happen, and sure enough, it did. Tessa had cooked up a plan to expose Bill and Virginia’s relationship. Though this was very entertaining to watch I’m wondering how Virginia didn’t catch on that her daughter was up to this. It couldn’t have been more obvious but I guess if you’re too busy trying to hide something then it’s easy to miss the other details around you. Tessa did manage to make it known to Virginia’s mother that her and Bill were having an affair. I thought for sure, that was going to to lead to a major fight between Virginia and her mother but it didn’t. I can’t say that I was happy with the way her mother perceived their relationship and it’s clear that Virginia wasn’t happy about it either.
Telling Virginia that she just needs to get Bill to leave Libby isn’t what I expected her mother to say and I’m pretty confident that’s not what Tessa expected her response to be either. That reaction might even cause Virginia to be careless as we see her asking Dan Logan out on a date. That wouldn’t lead to anything good, especially because he’s married and sponsoring their book. I envision Bill going off the deep end when and if he learns that there’s something between Virginia and Dan. That would certainly make for an interesting storyline if it happens.
This week's episode, entitled Matters of Gravity continued with Margaret and her strange love triangle relationship. I’m glad that was resolved in this episode because I wasn’t enjoying that so much. I would rather watch the dynamic between her and Barton, and we did also get that in this episode. It was really nice to see at the end where Barton helps repair the relationship that Margaret has with their daughter by telling the truth about what ended their marriage. I’m curious if they’re going to bring back their daughter and continue that storyline, or just move on. That’s one thing about this show that aggravates me a little bit. People just disappear without much explanation sometimes. For example, what happened to Austin? We haven't seen him since the finale of season two.
It’s always gratifying to stick it to those that wronged you and Bill got to do just that. I was delighted by the scene of Bill giving his speech in front of those who double crossed him and Virginia. Though in the end it’s never as gratifying as you believe it would be and thats what Bill realized. That and also that his father’s approval was so important to him leading him to reevaluate his own relationship with Johnny. Early in the episode we see Johnny is having some trouble with bullies and Bill tries to fix it in a very Bill way, threatening the 13 year old bully. That doesn’t work out very well nor does Bill’s efforts to be more of a father to Johnny. It was a very sad ending to the episode when we see Bill for the first time make an effort to talk to Johnny. He ends up walking away from Bill. That doesn’t shock me, considering it seems like up until this moment he didn’t want anything to do with the kids. I hope Bill keeps trying and that we will see more of that side of Bill. For the longest time, I keep wondering how he couldn't draw the connection between his relationship with his father, and how he was re-enacting it with his son.
It was a satisfactory episode, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens when Virginia learns that Tessa knows about Bill and her affair. What did you think about Matters of Gravity?
