The CW, which acquired half-hour British scripted comedy Dates for this summer, also is developing an hourlong version of the show. Series creator Bryan Elsley will write the adaptation and will executive produce with 3 Arts’ Howard Klein. Warner Bros TV is the studio.
On Dates, each episode focuses on a first date between two people who meet through an online dating service. The series explores the issues, intricacies, romance and danger of modern relationships and the thrills, calamities, lies and truths of first dates. The original series starred Ben Chaplin, Oona Chaplin, Andrew Scott, Katie McGrath, Amanda Hale and Gemma Chan.
Despite the lackluster ratings performance, “I like the format,” the CW President Mark Pedowitz said at the TCA Summer Press Tour. “I wish it performed better, but in summer you take shots. I’m very proud of it, and it was great getting Ben Chaplin on our air.”
