Is Ted particularly loved? I mean, I don't hate him as much as some, but I definitely didn't like him too much by the end of the series, and I tend to find myself one of the more positive towards him ... which is sad.
At any rate, he's the only one I have a particular problem with on the list, so him.
Snow White - She adds nothing to story anymore and if she disappeard i wouldn't even notice. I wish she would leave and we would get more interesting regular instead
Toby - I used to like him in early PLL seasons, but he adds nothing to story anymore and the whole thing with him being a policeman is just laughable
Is Snow White really beloved? I never particularly felt so. I don't like her but I don't dislike her either; I just wish she would be demoted to recurring since her story is done and we would get more interesting regulars. I generally don't dislike anyone on the list above, even if most aren't my favorite characters either.
Characters generally beloved which I dislike (or like significantly less than most people do): - Louis Litt, Suits - Rumple, Once Upon a Time - Louis Canning, The Good Wife - Tom Neville, Revolution - Lafayette, True Blood - John Lock, Lost - Mr. Eko, Lost - Will Adama, Battlestar Galactica
I don't think he is particularly loved no. I personally love him and I find him to be one of the most relatable lead guys in a show in the last years, but I've realized that relatibility and character popularity don't correlate well
I went with characters that I know I like considerably less than most people do. Not the same as dislike per se. Even so, it wasn't particularly easy to find them, no
Snow White: She REALLY annoyed me is season 4. Usually I can tolerate her but in season 4 she was insufferable. The way she kept treating baby Neal like he's her first born in front of Emma, being afraid of letting Emma carry him, yelling at Emma when she accidental hurt David, and the whole mess in 4b.
From outside the list: Damon Salvatore. I'm surprised he wasn't on the list. I don't think he is a likeable character but a lot of people love him.
I like Iris. From the flash, i would say joe. I dont dislike him per se and i love his relationship with barry but i hate the way he speaks about oliver and his chatacter loses major points with me for that. So it is not an active dislike but i like him way less than the fandom
In short, murderous, rapey, abusive male characters who are embraced as romantic heroes because of their abs/snark/pretty blue eyes/British accent/sob story. I would include Ward (AoS) in that list, but he's actually a pretty interesting and well-written character and should not be dragged down because of his insane Stand With Ward fandom. With the exception of Rumpel, this is what I refer to as the "hot bad boy" trope. There are hundreds of other examples.
I'm one of the few people who loved Ted. Granted they made him pine for Robin way too much just to serve their ridiculous ending that they shot in season 2!!!! BUT when he wasn't used to facilitate their ending, I liked him a lot.
Damon belongs in the list more than Stefan does. Both brothers have gallons of blood on their hands, but the fandom tends to give Damon a complete pass because he's a "hot bad boy", while Stefan is perceived as boring. I'm fairly certain Damon is the more popular of the two, probably the most popular character on TVD and main source of its popularity among teen and early 20's girls.
Snow White. I loved her in season one but now I can't stand her. She's so annoying and useless and boring as hell (so is Charming). I wanna slap her in the face.
I on the other hand loved Joe and I like when we have characters questioning others choices and behaviors. That is one of the issues I had with the Flash no asking if Barry's choices are right.
So with you on Ezra. How he's not in jail after that stupid journalist or whatever reveal - he purposefully sought out and started a romantic relationship with a sixteen year old! How twisted is that!
Usually I'm all, like who you like, but come on. That's just ... no.
Since Shaw from Person of Interest, Penny from The Big Bang Theory, Sophie from 2 Broke Girls or Felicity from Arrow aren't on the list.... and there isn't an option for "Other", I went with Ted Mosby.
I agree on felicity. One of the few characters I can ever recall starting out liking, and loathing less than 2 seasons later. Its mainly the amount of screen time she gets. The actress doesn't have the skill set and experience to pull off that much material. If they kept her at the 15-45 second an episode comic relief spot, she would likely still be fun to have around...but now, shes the entire reason the show is teetering on terrible.
I'm not a hater, but I was never a fan of Damon and Rumpelstiltskin, never liked Ward, but I love to hate him. And yeah, I agree with comment about Ezra
I agree with you. She started out very fun and likable but as soon as the writers realized people liked her, they started shoving her in every damn scene. I just don't find her relationship with Oliver believable. It was too much too soon.
I am not gonna say that I like Felicity since she does annoy me, especially with all the romance that was (for me) completely out of the blue and made no sense, but it's Laurel that I can't stand from Arrow.
However, I've never disliked any character on any show as much as I dislike Daenerys. Not even villains, not even Kate from Lost xD. What's funny is that I read the books after watching the first two seasons of the show and I used to like her. Now I just can't wait for someone to take her head off xD.
You know what's funny, the show actually paints him as a hero! Earlier in season 6 Elena erased her memories of him and forgot that she was in love with him. Then she found out and someone asked her what type of men she likes, she said "Over the top heroes." That line will make me laugh and role my eyes for eternity.
I only know a few of these characters (watched a few of these shows), but I would have liked to vote for more than one character: Ted, HIMYM. Carrie, Sex & City. (also, not listed, but Ross, Friends. Booth, Bones. a lot of times in latest seasons Hetty, NCISLA)
There are quite a few characters, who can be lovely at times, and have great gems of wisdom to share via their lines, and be interesting and all, but they have sides/qualities that I just do not like. Like the "romantic" Ted who comes off more like a stalker and jerk. Or the "all emotions" Carrie. Or the "serial groom" Ross. Or the "I'm an angel" Booth. Or the previously lovely Hetty, whose mindgames and "cons" have gone over the limit a while ago. Also, weirdly I would add Oscar from The Odd Couple remake - the only thing I like about the character is how he is opposite of the other character and their "dynamic", otherwise he is, as he is written - an unkind & selfish character. Also Dawson from Dawson's Creek, who was also so often "selfish"
Not sure if all of these are considered actually popular characters, but every character has fans & non-fans.
From the ones listed I only watch(ed) Castle, NewGirl, TBBT, HIMYM, and I have no other characters from these that I dislike enough to mention. Other shows I do not watch, so cannot comment.
I used to love Elena. Then she became a vampire and I loathed her. I'm glad she became human before she left, her goodbye scenes were beautiful, especially with Bonnie.
I love Joe so much (or rather loved). The first time he attacked Oliver in episode 1x08 I was very mad but I let it go because he thanked Oliver in the end. But then they made him give that stupid speech in episode 22, when Oliver actually was the one who saved their lives mind you, I really started to hate him. And I hated AK for even writing that cr**. Is that really how he sees Oliver? What is the point of writing those lines especially in the episodes where Oliver appears? It's very disrespectful to SA and the Arrow fans who watched the episode because their favourite character was making a guest appearance. It's like Andrew was saying "I know Oliver is going to make some heroic stuff later in the episode but don't be fooled here is how I see him." How are non-Arrow viewers supposed to believe that this guy is a hero, or even want to watch his show? I mean, we get it Andrew is trying to distance himself from Arrow but at least have some respect for the show that made it possible for you to have 10 other shows.
I'd never route for a girl going after her exes brother. Vamp Elena fall hard into my eyes. Elena's goodbye was tremendous, so many powerful scenes and the celebrated the character in a beautiful way.
Questioning other character's actions and choices is OK. However, accusing Oliver of things he never did/would do and declare that it is the truth and shaming him for that just to prop up Barry was appalling.
Castiel from Supernatural (Charlie too). there is more characters that i disliked, but since they from shows that i stopped to watch, i'm not naming them.
haha I only watched the finale of Flash yesterday, so I know exactly what you mean. I like Joe (surprisingly enough everyone from Flash cause I always dislike a character from every show) but that did annoy me as well. I may not know enough about comic books and stuff but from the little I know I understand where he was coming from and what he truly meant. Of course Oliver wouldn't let those prisoners die for any reason but he is much darker than Flash and a very different kind of hero. Flash is a boy scout, just Superman whereas Oliver is capable of things Flash would never even think of doing.
Trust me I know that Oliver is darker and Barry is a goody two shoes. But they are over doing it, especially considering that Barry didn't care about a single life in the finale. He risked possibly killing off the entire planet's population to save one person and live a happy life. And no one except for Henry disagreed with his decision. Now tell me that Oliver, who is dark because he went through literal hell and always sacrifices his happiness for others, would even consider thinking about doing something like that.
I don't really hate anyone on this list or don't care about some but definitely Ted (Annoying) Mosby. He's the only TV character I loath and I will never get the appeal of him. He was just terribly written and the pining over Robin went too far. He never loved her, the real Robin and she will never love him.
On List: Olivia Pope (Scandal), Jessica Day (New Girl) -Had to quit scandal after s3 cause I was just so disappointed with everything... lead character included. I might watch s4 of New girl now that Nick & Jess aren't together I believe. Off the List: Kate (LOST), Maggie (TWD), Derek (Greys) Kate & Maggie... It's not that I dislike them persay, but in those lovely ensemble casts-- the writing for those characters are significantly weaker& not very enjoyable. Would never wish Derek dead!!... But not terribly sad to see him go.
I agree with you. What Joe said was unfair and unwarranted. But all things considered, there's no need to overreact by reading too much into it. Except that reference and Joe's attitude prior and during meeting Oliver/Arrow, I don't think there's anything else to justify your claim about them over doing it.
Both of them are good guys, but different given their origins and what they've been through and their respective abilities.. And yes, what Barry attempted to do in the finale for selfish reasons is nothing like anything Oliver has done. But it was part of his journey to become what he is supposed to be. I am not taking any sides. Like I said, most of what I know come from the shows, and right now I like/prefer Oliver and his style a lot more. Even the treatment he gets from the people of the city, the police. Joe, is important and part of who he is. He doesn't need to be worshiped to protect the city and its people.
I also don't like Ezra from PLL, I don't know why people didn't want him to be the real A and still shipped him with Aria !!! I still don't know why he's around, I mean, it's over, man.
You got me wrong. When I said they are over doing it, I was talking about Barry not Oliver. They are making him an angel with a halo. Yes he is kind and innocent and everything but they are exaggerating. It makes him look rather naive at times.
I'm not an expert on comics either but from what I understand GA is not even close to Arrow's Oliver. His character is light and as far as I know he is not a killer. Actually the fact that the city is turning against him, and yet he still does everything he can to save everyone makes him a better hero in my eyes.
I couldn't stand Ted Mosby, which in turn led me to dropping the show a few seasons in. I could only take his bitching and whining for so long. Damn shame as the rest of the cast was quite excellent.
oh! Still, I find it understandable xD. The show is about him and Flash is supposed to be all good and noble. Naivety is part of his character I believe, just like with Superman.
I prefer that as well. A hero who many distrust and view as menace, but still going out of his way to protect everyone, even if it means becoming a bit darker than usual and not getting the recognition he deserves.
- Barry Allen - The Flash: Couldn't stand him right from the start, I actually disliked every character in the show except Eddie. If it wasn't for Wentworth Miller, Robbie Amell and Victor Garber joining in the 2nd half I never would have finished the first season. - Stiles - Teen Wolf: I liked him for the first 2 seasons and then rapidly started to dislike him in season 3, especially 3B, then it got to the point in season 4 where I had to drop the show because of him and now he's my least favourite fictional character. - Hook - OUAT: I automatically hate a character who's forgiven for no reason. - Damon & Bonnie - TVD: Same problem with Damon that I have with Hook. Bonnie I only started to hate in season 6, before that I really had no opinion on her. I dropped the show in season 4 because of Damon and Elena but came back in season 6 because I thought the writing was much better, there was less Damon and Elena and I really loved Kai! - Caleb - PLL: I just find him really annoying.
I'm glad someone submitted this, it's one I've always wanted to submit but I was afraid to start WWIII, nice to see there's no arguments :)
I love Kate but she wasn't loved at all. She was frequently on top of most hated character lists on Lost; I was often alone in standing up for her. People despised her for the love triangle stuff.
I would be interested in the other side of the coin too; characters that are generally despised but that you like. I am too lazy to think of enough options for the poll though
It's weird that I love Superman for those exact reasons and yet it annoys me with Barry. I think maybe because they often use Oliver to show how "good" Barry is, and I'm very protective of Oliver. Plus I hate putting down characters to prop up others.
Maybe you can start the discussion here instead :) It's similar enough to not be off topic, and it's another interesting one. Can't you submit open polls as well? I've seen a few of those, there are no options you just go straight to the comments. Here are the ones I can think of:
- Ezra - PLL - Shane Walsh - TWD (I loved him so so much!) - Andrea - TWD (It's more I didn't hate her rather than I liked her) - Grant Ward - AOS (I hate the way they're writing him atm but I still like the character, I'll probably be dropping the show soon anyway) - Stefan - TVD (Not sure if he's really hated but he's certainly not liked as much I like him)
I wouldn't say I hate Ted, even after the finale. Although I do hate Carter Bays and Craig Thomas for that mess of a finale. I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive them for that.
- Hook (Arff...) - Barney Stinson (I don't hate him, but I certainly don't love him) - Mark Sloan (except toward his last seasons) - Sheldon Cooper (I don't know how the others put up with him, I don't think they've deal with his evolution very well. What I loved about him was his ingenuousness, his childlike naivety but now he is just insufferable most of the time and so terribly egotistical.) - Richard Castle
PS : Mary Margaret, Ted Mosby and Meredith Grey aren't especially loved.
I voted for Meredith, because from what I saw she's really annoying. Off the list - Miss Brows, Damon & Alaric (TVD) - Miss Sh%tborn and Jon Snow(flake) (GOT) - Mercy (Salem)
Meredith gets my vote,a very annoying lead. Mary Margaret isnt loved for sure, her character is so done on the show, I dont dislike her but dont love her either. I am shocked that Castle is on the list, IMO is one of the best characters on the show.
Some of mine: - Andrea, TWD: I loved her too, even though she made some bad calls in Season 3, I think that she is still the biggest mistake the show has done in killing her off, maybe tied with Beth now. - Michaela, How to Get Away with Murder - Walter O'Brien, Scorpion (I am not sure whether or not he fits in here, but it always seems to me that people like the secondary characters way more than Walter and I love Walter, he is one of my favorite new characters of the year and the main reason I like Scorpion) - Skye, Agents of Shield (she is as loved by some as she is hated by others, so I think she fits here) - Katrina, Sleepy Hollow (it's not that I love her per se, but I have no issue with her, and she has so much hate that I think she belongs here) - Tom Keen, The Blacklist (I love him and it really adds to the show when he is there for me, although most of the fandom seems to hate him) - Laurel, Arrow (it got better this year since more people seemed to warm up to her and even I liked her way better this year than before, but I never had the problems the entire fandom had with her last year, despite her flaws) - Fitz, Scandal (I love this character) - David/ Charming, Once Upon a Time (way better than MM, despite the writers often having no clue what to do with him) - Mike and Rachel, Suits (obviously I like the trio of Harvey, Donna and Jessica more but I think I like these two way more than most people do. Certainly way more than Louis) - Sansa Stark, Game of Thrones (probably my favorite character of the series) - Owen, Grey's Anatomy (people hate him but I really enjoy him) - Jackson Avery, Grey's Anatomy (never understood what people's issue was here) - Kate Austen, Lost (one of my favorite female characters around. And I don't think I've ever had as many discussions when arguing for a character against pretty much everyone else as I did with Kate) - Ted Mosby, How I Met Your Mother (I never understood the hate. I think he is one of the most relatable lead characters around and he was the heart and glue of the series all along) - Thirteen, House (one of the most interesting characters around who unfairly got a lot of hate from the fandom for allegedly replacing Cameron, who I also loved, just because both were women) - Lee Adama, BSG (my second favorite character of the series)
Wow that was long! Lol! From your list, I really like Ward too but I don't get the feeling he is disliked. Shane neither. I mean I hated him in the late portion of S2 but it was a "love to hate" kind of thing, I think we were supposed to feel that way about the character.
Maybe i have got the wrong impression but most people seem to put him into the "love to hate" kind of thing and they are very excited when he is on. I am quite tired of him and his gimmicks by now, I just find him annoying.
I wasn't suggesting he doesn't. I think there are just as many people who like him as those who don't like him, so I wouldn't qualify him as a "Loved" character, which to me sounds like a universally accepted thing.
I had no idea there were people disliking Emily, she is such an amazing character.
As for MM, i don't dislike her but I don't like her either. She is just very pointless and boring, and I just wish they would write her out and bring us other exciting regulars. She has no role at all on the show anymore imo.
Sawyer and Charlie from Lost. I wouldn't say I really dislike them, but I don't love them like everyone else does. I hated Sawyer from seasons 1-3 and it's only because other bad characters were introduced (Ana Lucia, Shannon, Nikki & Paulo) that he is not the most insufferable person of these seasons. He grew on me a bit in later seasons but he'll never be one of my favourite character.
And Charlie, well, he was just a drug addict. Sure, his death was emotional and all that, but he was annoying for the most of seasons 1-2.
Other than that, I can't think of characters that I dislike which others like.
I don't want them to kill her off either. I just think she doesn't have enough story left to warrant a series regular status. They did manage to find something awesome for her in Season 4B with the whole secret of Maleficient and all, but other than that, she was useless in 4A and 3A, and the only relevant part of 3B was enacting the second curse. The show started to be a lot around her but nowadays she adds little imo. I don't really care for another of her flashbacks, I feel there is nothing they can add right now, and there is only so much drama she can have with Emma before it is repetitive. And her relationship with Regina, which kicked off the entire show, is mended.
I think she should be a recurring character that shows up every now and then to support Emma and such, but she doesn't need her own arcs and episodes. Just my opinion of course.
I don't mind the new characters, I just think Andrea had a lot of potential. In a way, it is the same mistake they did with Beth. They have the characters go through some incredible experiences that significantly change them and create amazing character evolution but then, instead of letting us follow that growth and see what it would come from integrating back with the group, how the relationships and dynamics would change, etc, they kill them off and waste all that potential. It really annoys me.
I'm always seeing loads of hate for Ward but he definitely has his fans too. Every time I'd say I liked Shane to someone they'd say they hated him, but that wasn't very often, he was my favourite character on that show.
From your list I also like (or at least don't dislike) Walter, Skye, Charming, Mike, Rachel, Owen, Jackson & Lee. I had no idea people hated Lee, I loved that character. Mike is my favourite character on Suits, I was surprised when I'd finished binging it that Harvey was so much more popular and so many people hated Mike.
I agree about stiles, I hated they focused more on him in season 3. Even though season 4 was a bit messy, Stiles being less focused on was my favorite part. I am scared for season five everyone is freeing with him.
My main problem with Stiles in season 4 was that he wasn't effected by what happened to him at all, like at all, he's just so bland to me! I sadly won't be watching season 5 as much as I love Scott I just can't do it.
You only mentioned the things Snow did in ONE particular episode of season 4. All of those things were justified, since she was afraid Emma's powers would hurt the baby. And, well, they did hurt David, so, yeah, that. She didn't actually "yell" at Emma then either, that so doesn't count as a yell. And Neal isn't her first-born, which she admitted, but it is the first baby she's actually raising. Hating Snow based on those things is something I don't get. If you said you hated her because she, I dunno, stole a fricking baby and sent it down a wormhole, then I'd get it.
Maybe people didn't hate Lee, I just have the impression he was never nearly as popular as the likes of William, Kara or Laura, but maybe that's just me. Some people were annoyed with the love triangle stuff. And to be fair I think he made some bad decisions in Season 4 but I still really like him and the only reason he isn't my outright favorite character of the series is because of my unbeatable love for Laura Roslin, aka, the fiction world's best politician ever. Then again, I didn't watch BSG at the time it was on, I binge watched it years after so maybe my impressions of the fandom' feelings aren't accurate.
As for Suits, I think most people hate Mike because of the not-Harvard storyline associated with him which is often people's least favorite aspect of the show. Also, and I say this as someone who likes Mike, I often find him horrible and ungrateful for Harvey. Harvey goes above and beyond for him and sticks up for him in so many instances and times and Mike often explodes at him for little things; he should be eternally grateful to him and basically suck it up (that one take away the banter of the show in part I suppose, but still).
Yeah i think they mentioned his possession only a couple times. I do feel he was a bit tones down for season 4 but I am not sure if that was an aftereffect of season three or just a realization how boring his character has always been. And I am totally watching this season for characters like Scott.
I didn't watch BSG when it was on either. Was season 4 when Lee went into politics? I liked him a lot less then. I loved Laura as well but like Lee, some of her decisions made me like her a little less every now and then.
I'm always a bit surprised how people who don't like the Harvard storyline in Suits can stick with the show since it's been a main storyline every season so far. I too think Mike can be a bit of a jerk sometimes too but he usually doesn't find out what Harvey did for him until after his rants. Plus most of his rants are panic in case he gets caught and goes to jail so it's pretty understandable, I don't think he's ever actually angry with Harvey at all, just venting, but that's just my opinion on it. Harvey snaps at Mike as well though because he can't say what he's actually feeling so that goes both ways.
I don't mind the Harvard storyline but I think it's been handled enough. Maybe they had it as a plot point one season too much, but to me wasn't a big deal anyway. I am glad it is done now and I kind of hope they don't go there again, I don't think it is needed. In regards to Mike, I disagree with the whole "he doesn't find out what Harvey did for him until after" - c'mon this guy hired him when no one else would and he straight up told Jessica he wouldn't let Mike get fired, multiple times. He has put his neck out for him time and time again. That sort of thing should warrant eternal gratitude, doesn't really matter what the conflict of the week is.
Don't really hate them but: -Seriously waiting for someone to just hit Sheldon Cooper. -I like Oliva Pope... but why does Shonda Rimes's strong black female characters, such as Pope and Analise Keating from How to Get Away With Murder, keep falling in love with jackass white guys?
Oh man, some of her crying scenes are just awful. She should have stayed the way she was. She was to Arrow, what Cisco is to the Flash. Comic relief. Now they have turned her into his leading lady and it's just flat. I just don't buy that he is so in love with her, and the whole ignoring of his love for Laurel which drove him off the island for felicity drives me nuts. I think Olicity is good for a fling, but they just aren't meant to be the emotional center of the Arrowverse. That should be Oliver and his entire "FAMILY" dynamic.
From the list, Snow White, Castle, and sometimes Sheldon. Off the list, currently no one annoys me more than Liam from Teen Wolf and Skye from SHIELD, both for the same reason. They seem to be pushing these characters down my throat every second they can. If they would back off and let me make my own decision instead of telling me how super special they are ALL the time, I probably wouldn't cringe every time they are on screen. Other beloved characters I don't like include Murphy (The 100), Malcolm Merlyn (Arrow, even over Felicity and Oliver), Spike (after season 3 on Buffy), Max (Dark Angel), Debra (Dexter, so far), Jesse (Gilmore Girls), Adalind (Grimm), Nate (Leverage), Locke (LOST), Patrick Jayne (Mentalist), Constance/D'Artagnan (Musketeers), Emma (OUaT), Root (PoI), Miles (Revolution), Walter (Scorpion), everyone (Seinfeld), Sherlock (Sherlock), the writers (Sleepy Hollow - er, scratch that. Everyone hates them.), Castiel/Jeremy Carver (SPN), Julia (Under the Dome), Sarah (White Collar), and I'm sure others I am forgetting.
Do we really know no one else would hire him? He wasn't really trying. But from what I remember it's always Mike storming into Harvey's office giving out and then either Harvey tells Mike what he did for him or Donna tells him later. If I was Mike I'd probably be the same, like I said I don't think his issue is ever really with Harvey, he's just panicking and he automatically goes to Harvey because he knows on some level Harvey will be the one to snap him out of it. I disagree that the smaller conflicts don't matter compared to all the good things Harvey has done. Lots of small things can add up and suddenly he has another Trevor-like relationship on his hands.
Mary Margaret aka Snow-I stopped watching Once because the character was so annoying and the actress couldn't act. Henry and Charming arent particularly likable either. Not a huge fan of Dean Winchester from SPN, Carl Grimes from TWD, everyone from Grey's Anatomy, every character from Gossip Girl (dont know how I managed even half a season of that show) Hayley and Rachel from OTH. Liz and Maria from Roswell. Those are the one I remember.
Toby's supposed to be their 'inside man', yet gets nothing useful out of that station. Even the cops don't like him. Well, except the new guy. But what choice does he have..?
Tom Neville, was the best snivelling fool I've seen in awhile. He'd double-cross anyone. Great lines as well. Now I've looked at your overall list, I can see they're all the conscious/wise and irritating characters of their shows. So, I guess we know what you don't like in your tv set-ups.
- Ted "I'll tell you a long-ass story about me meeting your mom so you'll give me permission to bang your aunt" Mosby
- Sheldon "I'm such a nerd with all my geeky references to non-geeky material cuz I'm such a geek...HALO 3" Cooper
- Damon "I'll just mentally take control of my brothers gf and when the curse is broken mentally abuse her into following my every command" Salvator
- Felicity "The fans love me and the ship I'm involved in so this show is all about me now beaches and my great characteristics are removed in favor of whiny material" Smoak
- Oliver "I'm better than all of you despite not really being better" Queen
- Klaus "I'll do horrible things to you but if you wrong me at least once I'll cry and blame everything bad on you" Mikaelson
- Daisy "Oh, this show is about Agents? Hell no, this is my sh*t now" Johnson aka Skye
- Captain "I'm a captain of a ship, oh not a REAL ship that is, a ship a lot of insane fangirls are involved in because they're absolutely whack jobs" Hook
- fans that care more about the romantic plot than the shows actual plot and force the writers to make everything go their way
- People who shame fans for enjoying romantic plots, and declare themselves the real fans because they don't enjoy silly romantic teen stories (in their opinion).
On the list: -Stefan Salvatore (TVD): I used to downright hate him before his "ripper past" reveal ...but now I simply dislike him only when his hypocrisy kicks in. And his god-awful "Let's blame the most irrelevant things that happen on me because I'm just that accepting of my sins but can't do sh*t about it" is pathetic, instead of relatable. I like when he takes responsibility of his actions, but I want to punch him in the face when he starts to whine about things he had absolutely no control on. Like, dude, chill. Off the list: -Klaus Mikaelson (TO): He used to be my favorite character on TVD, but on TO (esp. season 2), he's constantly putting everyone around him in jeopardy and actually gets away with it because, "duh, Hope! He's a father, he loves his daughter , so deal with it." How about no!? No other character that I dislike is very much liked.
The TVD was already built on the love triangle so romance didn't ruin the show. The overall quality of the show declined so much, including its romantic plots.
I only have three characters on this poll, and only Stefan was the one I hated for years. (But I still gave him props when I felt he deserved it) but I learned to tolerate him.
Season 1 and 2 weren't that heavy on romance, in fact it held a pretty good balance between romantic arc and mytharc. Season 3, with the rise of the twitter-storm or Delena/Klaroline, completely derailed the writers focus on the storyline
Really? I never found a reason to hate him as he was, to me, the most bland character of all. Not annoying, not really wrong in anything but just there. However he, like so many other characters, was in the way of something popular wich is why (I think) many hated him
Pretty amazing how they took a legendary fairytale villain and turned him into a bozo who has nothing better to do than follow the heroine around like some fawning, lovesick puppy.
There are a number of characters on this poll who don't get a lot of love, so I don't really get the poll. This just seems like a list of lead characters that the pollster doesn't like.
This poll is a bit pointless. Why was one character from one show picked and not another one? I, for one, love Stefan Salvatore and dislike Damon. Yet I can't vote for Damon here, only Stefan. Same goes for Snow from OUAT. I'm absolutely indifferent to her, but I strongly dislike Hook and Robin Hood (who is to this day, the worst character in this show and actually the reason I stopped watching).
I completely agree. I actually like Hook and Damon but it would have made more sense to put them on the poll than Mary Margaret and Stefan, since they get a lot more love from viewers (There seems to be a lot of dislike for both Mary Margaret and Stefan, which I never really understood, so they really shouldn't be on the poll). BTW, Robin Hood is one of the reasons I don't watch OUAT as much as I used to. I thought I was the only one who felt this way.
If he's attracted to a teenager, no, he's still not a pedophile. That term only applies to people who have sexual attraction to children. There's a different term for people who are sexually attracted to teenagers. You can still find the relationship squicky, but you're using the wrong terminology.
You're definitely not the only one. I didn't know the actor before OUAT and... I don't think he's good. And that's putting it nicely. And the storyline is barf-worthy. Anyway. I don't mind Damon as much as I used to, but I loathe the "bad-boy-turned-good-for-girl" trope, and it happens in pretty much all teenage shows. Well, at least Damon still has his spine and his snark. Hook was much better as a selfish villain hell bent on revenge. I hate that they turned him into a puppy and it's all about his manpain now. So yeah, I think Hook and Damon would have been much better candidates for this poll than MM and Stefan. They're much more polarizing.
This is tough, as I tend to like all the characters on the shows I watch to some degree or another (presuming they're not villains, of course :p). I guess if I had to pick, I'd probably personally go with Frank and Asher from "How to Get Away with Murder". Frank is just so sleazy, and I don't dislike Asher, but I think his frat-guy attitude can be a little overbearing at times.
Lindsay. Yes! It seems like everyone loves her, and I can handle her in small doses, but she's in every freakin scene. And it seems like every story/crossover is about her.
I also agree about JJ from Criminal Minds. She's always been my least favorite on the show.
Snow is a classic character as is her couple but as a character she's not that loved since season 2 at least... Snowing wasn't good thus year but I still prefer Charming I like personally a bit of all the character (except Zelena) but maybe I could say I like Regina less than most. She's the kind of character you can have strong feelings about but right now I'm rather meh except for Lana's still outstanding talent :)
Some shows I drop when my irritation with the character outweighs the good points. Some like Nate on Leverage are balanced out by my love for other characters like Parker, Eliott, and Hardison. Some like Castiel, I just fast forward through most of their scenes. Some shows I marathon so by the time I really hate the character, I'm out of episodes.
Not on the list but I dislike Erin Lindsay. Why does she get 3 episodes of her whining about her poor life and yet the other characters get like nothing? Why does she get like 2 Fire/CPD/LAO crossovers all about her while the other characters get NOTHING? Oh I swear to god, if CPD comes back with her all drugged up, I REFUSE to watch until her arc is over. I'm sick of characters whose popularity is used to give the other characters nothing to do.
To be fair, Snow white didn't have the luxury of getting to know Emma from the day she was born. Maybe snow is making up for lost time with her other child.
We're of similar minds about Katrina, and I will also agree with you on Michaela. I like her whole "try and pretend like all is fine when it isn't" attitude and am interested in seeing how she'll handle that next season, and I loved it when she told off her soon to be mother-in-law. I also liked her interactions with Connor-I kinda want to see those two form a grudging, snippy banter-ridden friendship :p.
I love that we agree on this issue. I remembered people complained that Burgess got a whole episode about her, and then they complained that the episode where Atwater and Ruzek went to jail was boring. But it's okay that Lindsay gets every other episode centered around her.
Wait... PEOPLE ACTUALLY VOTED FOR JESSICA DAY? New Girl is one of my favorite shows and although she's not one my favorite characters (My favs are Nick & Schmidt) I still love her! Yes, she's quirky & always full of energy, but thats part of what makes her great in my opinion! I'm just curious what people don't like about her.
I understand why she was feeling particularly protective of Neal, she doesn't want to lose another child. But she should've dialed it down a little. Especially going to a class for first time mothers. She feels this way and she doesn't even remember the years she spent without Emma, imagine how Emma feels. Also she doesn't really spend that much time with Emma. She doesn't make an effort to bond with her, not like David.
Oh boy, these comments could get juicy. For 'other characters', I'd say:
Captain Hook/Killian Jones (OUAT) Carol (The Walking Dead) ~ Though, it's not really hate, she's just there for me. Dany (Game Of Thrones) Felicity (Arrow) Rose Tyler (Doctor Who) Castiel (Supernatural) Damon Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries)
The struggle when one of the most beloved character's in a fandom, is the one you dislike most??
You know Mac you just sound perpetually angry at this point. Hell half of those don't actually have anything to do with romance or plot problems you just dislike them.
Eh not really only difference in three was Delena became an actual god awful thing. But balance wise I'd say it's always been the same. Just went from Caroline/Tyler/Matt, Elena/Stefan, and Jeremy and Bonnie and whatever the plot was (one seemed the least consumed but arguable) to Damon/Elena/Stefan, other couples and whatever the plot was but the ratio has always seemed constant. I more just dislike the way TVD does arcs in general too short for me.
I'd fight on you Felicity, but honestly it'd be a rehash, pointless, I don't want to, and you'll never see any part of my side just like how I view yours. (Seriously man the main arc wasn't- nope not doing it).
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Is Ted particularly loved? I mean, I don't hate him as much as some, but I definitely didn't like him too much by the end of the series, and I tend to find myself one of the more positive towards him ... which is sad.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, he's the only one I have a particular problem with on the list, so him.
Snow White - She adds nothing to story anymore and if she disappeard i wouldn't even notice. I wish she would leave and we would get more interesting regular instead
ReplyDeleteToby - I used to like him in early PLL seasons, but he adds nothing to story anymore and the whole thing with him being a policeman is just laughable
Is Snow White really beloved? I never particularly felt so. I don't like her but I don't dislike her either; I just wish she would be demoted to recurring since her story is done and we would get more interesting regulars. I generally don't dislike anyone on the list above, even if most aren't my favorite characters either.
ReplyDeleteCharacters generally beloved which I dislike (or like significantly less than most people do):
- Louis Litt, Suits
- Rumple, Once Upon a Time
- Louis Canning, The Good Wife
- Tom Neville, Revolution
- Lafayette, True Blood
- John Lock, Lost
- Mr. Eko, Lost
- Will Adama, Battlestar Galactica
Maybe others I am not remembering now
I don't think he is particularly loved no. I personally love him and I find him to be one of the most relatable lead guys in a show in the last years, but I've realized that relatibility and character popularity don't correlate well
ReplyDeleteI don't like Owen or Arizona from GA. I mean Arizona isn't that popular to start with but I think Owen is fairly loved.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it is that hard for me to find characters I dislike. My mind is just blank. I lost my hater mojo.
I have exactly the same comment about Snow White in my response above ahah
ReplyDeleteI went with characters that I know I like considerably less than most people do. Not the same as dislike per se. Even so, it wasn't particularly easy to find them, no
ReplyDeleteSnow White: She REALLY annoyed me is season 4. Usually I can tolerate her but in season 4 she was insufferable. The way she kept treating baby Neal like he's her first born in front of Emma, being afraid of letting Emma carry him, yelling at Emma when she accidental hurt David, and the whole mess in 4b.
ReplyDeleteFrom outside the list: Damon Salvatore. I'm surprised he wasn't on the list. I don't think he is a likeable character but a lot of people love him.
I just recalled Iris from The Flash. I really don't dig her and don't get the love for her at all.
ReplyDeleteBut my mind is blank. Can't find anyone. This will bug me the whole Day.
I like Iris. From the flash, i would say joe. I dont dislike him per se and i love his relationship with barry but i hate the way he speaks about oliver and his chatacter loses major points with me for that. So it is not an active dislike but i like him way less than the fandom
ReplyDeleteFreaking Ted...
ReplyDeleteSpike, BtVS.
ReplyDeleteDamon, TVD.
Klaus, TVD/The Originals.
Rumpelstiltskin and Hook, OUaT.
Also, Felicity, Arrow.
I'm one of the few people who loved Ted. Granted they made him pine for Robin way too much just to serve their ridiculous ending that they shot in season 2!!!! BUT when he wasn't used to facilitate their ending, I liked him a lot.
ReplyDeleteDamon belongs in the list more than Stefan does.
ReplyDeleteSnow White. I loved her in season one but now I can't stand her. She's so annoying and useless and boring as hell (so is Charming). I wanna slap her in the face.
ReplyDeleteI on the other hand loved Joe and I like when we have characters questioning others choices and behaviors. That is one of the issues I had with the Flash no asking if Barry's choices are right.
ReplyDeleteAria was sixteen when they met (and Ezra was 23 years old I guess), so "pedophile" is a strong word. 'Cause he's not.
ReplyDeleteSo with you on Ezra. How he's not in jail after that stupid journalist or whatever reveal - he purposefully sought out and started a romantic relationship with a sixteen year old! How twisted is that!
ReplyDeleteUsually I'm all, like who you like, but come on. That's just ... no.
Since Shaw from Person of Interest, Penny from The Big Bang Theory, Sophie from 2 Broke Girls or Felicity from Arrow aren't on the list.... and there isn't an option for "Other", I went with Ted Mosby.
ReplyDeleteI agree. She is awful character. Annoying and she's everywhere. Almost in every scene. I don't understand why she's not option in this poll?
ReplyDeleteI agree on felicity.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a hater, but I was never a fan of Damon and Rumpelstiltskin, never liked Ward, but I love to hate him. And yeah, I agree with comment about Ezra
ReplyDeleteFinally someone said it. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. She started out very fun and likable but as soon as the writers realized people liked her, they started shoving her in every damn scene. I just don't find her relationship with Oliver believable. It was too much too soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm not getting started, a 23 year old hitting on a MINOR, IS a pedophile, TWO 16 year olds, ali too, hell she may have 15-14.
ReplyDeleteSame here! Glad i'm not alone on this.
ReplyDeleteI am not gonna say that I like Felicity since she does annoy me, especially with all the romance that was (for me) completely out of the blue and made no sense, but it's Laurel that I can't stand from Arrow.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I've never disliked any character on any show as much as I dislike Daenerys. Not even villains, not even Kate from Lost xD. What's funny is that I read the books after watching the first two seasons of the show and I used to like her. Now I just can't wait for someone to take her head off xD.
Isn't love to hate technically love? LOL
ReplyDelete-Skye, Agents of Shield.
ReplyDelete-Jeremy/Damon, TVD.
-Catherine, BatB.
-Emma, OuaT
-Arizona, Greys
-Emily, Revenge
-Francis, Reign
-Jasper, The 100
-Fitz/Olivia, Scandal
You know what's funny, the show actually paints him as a hero! Earlier in season 6 Elena erased her memories of him and forgot that she was in love with him. Then she found out and someone asked her what type of men she likes, she said "Over the top heroes." That line will make me laugh and role my eyes for eternity.
ReplyDeleteI only know a few of these characters (watched a few of these shows), but I would have liked to vote for more than one character: Ted, HIMYM. Carrie, Sex & City. (also, not listed, but Ross, Friends. Booth, Bones. a lot of times in latest seasons Hetty, NCISLA)
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few characters, who can be lovely at times, and have great gems of wisdom to share via their lines, and be interesting and all, but they have sides/qualities that I just do not like.
Stiles from Teen Wolf. His character is such a clice yet everyone seems to love him.
ReplyDeleteThis thread could get juicy.
ReplyDeleteThere's potential for drama here.
Don't disappoint me SpoilerTV commenters/posters.
:P ;) :)
I used to love Elena. Then she became a vampire and I loathed her. I'm glad she became human before she left, her goodbye scenes were beautiful, especially with Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteI love Joe so much (or rather loved).
ReplyDeleteI'd never route for a girl going after her exes brother. Vamp Elena fall hard into my eyes.
ReplyDeleteElena's goodbye was tremendous, so many powerful scenes and the celebrated the character in a beautiful way.
2 Broke Girls >Caroline
ReplyDeleteShe's not funny at all! It especially pisses me off when she repeats herself.
>.........<
Nolan & David (Revenge)
ReplyDeleteBelle (Once Upon A Time)
Jake (Scandal)
Questioning other character's actions and choices is OK. However, accusing Oliver of things he never did/would do and declare that it is the truth and shaming him for that just to prop up Barry was appalling.
ReplyDeleteOther: Felicity Smoak...I used to adore her, until this season...
ReplyDelete*let the hate comments begin*
Not gonna hate, I don't much like her either, but yeah this kind of poll kind of is a begging for those kind of comments to come haha.
ReplyDeleteSnow White. She and David are the only characters on OUAT I absolutely dislike. I can say the same about Stefan (TVD), never really liked him.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Jake is beloved. Half of the fandom loathes him. I also wouldn't say Revenge's David is a loved character, by any means
ReplyDeleteI voted for Castle, but I also dislike:
ReplyDeletesnow - OUAT
Meredith - GREYS
Penny - The Big Bang Theory
Castiel from Supernatural (Charlie too). there is more characters that i disliked, but since they from shows that i stopped to watch, i'm not naming them.
ReplyDeletehaha I only watched the finale of Flash yesterday, so I know exactly what you mean.
ReplyDeleteMax from Two Broke Girls.
ReplyDeleteCan't stand her and her sense of humor anymore. Her jokes are just old.
She's still rocking that red lipstick though.
ReplyDeleteThe first one to come to mind is Buffy, I loved the series because of Spike and Angel, but was never a fan of Buffy.
ReplyDeleteI don't really hate anyone on this list or don't care about some but definitely Ted (Annoying) Mosby. He's the only TV character I loath and I will never get the appeal of him. He was just terribly written and the pining over Robin went too far. He never loved her, the real Robin and she will never love him.
ReplyDeleteOn List: Olivia Pope (Scandal), Jessica Day (New Girl)
ReplyDelete-Had to quit scandal after s3 cause I was just so disappointed with everything... lead character included. I might watch s4 of New girl now that Nick & Jess aren't together I believe.
Off the List: Kate (LOST), Maggie (TWD), Derek (Greys)
Kate & Maggie... It's not that I dislike them persay, but in those lovely ensemble casts-- the writing for those characters are significantly weaker& not very enjoyable.
Would never wish Derek dead!!... But not terribly sad to see him go.
From what i've seen-Olivia Pope. She's way too melodramatic for my taste.
ReplyDeleteThe Dragonwhore! I hate her with all my heart.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. What Joe said was unfair and unwarranted. But all things considered, there's no need to overreact by reading too much into it. Except that reference and Joe's attitude prior and during meeting Oliver/Arrow, I don't think there's anything else to justify your claim about them over doing it.
ReplyDeleteBoth of them are good guys, but different given their origins and what they've been through and their respective abilities..
ReplyDeleteYou got me wrong. When I said they are over doing it, I was talking about Barry not Oliver. They are making him an angel with a halo. Yes he is kind and innocent and everything but they are exaggerating. It makes him look rather naive at times.
ReplyDeleteI'm not an expert on comics either but from what I understand GA is not even close to Arrow's Oliver. His character is light and as far as I know he is not a killer. Actually the fact that the city is turning against him, and yet he still does everything he can to save everyone makes him a better hero in my eyes.
Thank you. I was starting to think I was the only one feeling that way.
ReplyDeleteBonnie from tvd.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say the same about jake. I think I'm his only fan left! Same with david from revenge.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't stand Ted Mosby, which in turn led me to dropping the show a few seasons in. I could only take his bitching and whining for so long. Damn shame as the rest of the cast was quite excellent.
ReplyDeleteoh! Still, I find it understandable xD. The show is about him and Flash is supposed to be all good and noble. Naivety is part of his character I believe, just like with Superman.
ReplyDeleteI prefer that as well.
ReplyDelete- Stiles - Teen Wolf: I liked him for the first 2 seasons and then rapidly started to dislike him in season 3, especially 3B, then it got to the point in season 4 where I had to drop the show because of him and now he's my least favourite fictional character.
ReplyDeleteTed Mosby! Does anyone like him though?
ReplyDeleteI do!
ReplyDeleteI would be interested in the other side of the coin too; characters that are generally despised but that you like. I am too lazy to think of enough options for the poll though
ReplyDeleteMe.
ReplyDeleteList- Ted Mosby (HIMYM)
ReplyDeleteOff the List- JJ, Morgan (CM), Lindsay (CPD), Rumpelstiltskin (OUAT), Ward (AOS) and Hayley (TO)
Chloe, Smallville; Cat BATB; Ben GA (Zzzzz)
ReplyDeleteI never considered Canning as being loved.
ReplyDeleteI like Jake.
ReplyDeleteIt's weird that I love Superman for those exact reasons and yet it annoys me with Barry. I think maybe because they often use Oliver to show how "good" Barry is, and I'm very protective of Oliver. Plus I hate putting down characters to prop up others.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can start the discussion here instead :) It's similar enough to not be off topic, and it's another interesting one. Can't you submit open polls as well? I've seen a few of those, there are no options you just go straight to the comments. Here are the ones I can think of:
ReplyDelete- Ezra - PLL
- Shane Walsh - TWD (I loved him so so much!)
- Andrea - TWD (It's more I didn't hate her rather than I liked her)
- Grant Ward - AOS (I hate the way they're writing him atm but I still like the character, I'll probably be dropping the show soon anyway)
- Stefan - TVD (Not sure if he's really hated but he's certainly not liked as much I like him)
I wouldn't say I hate Ted, even after the finale. Although I do hate Carter Bays and Craig Thomas for that mess of a finale. I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive them for that.
ReplyDeleteI've got two: Joffrey (GOT) &Tyler (TVD)
ReplyDelete- Hook (Arff...)
ReplyDelete- Barney Stinson (I don't hate him, but I certainly don't love him)
- Mark Sloan (except toward his last seasons)
- Sheldon Cooper (I don't know how the others put up with him, I don't think they've deal with his evolution very well. What I loved about him was his ingenuousness, his childlike naivety but now he is just insufferable most of the time and so terribly egotistical.)
- Richard Castle
PS : Mary Margaret, Ted Mosby and Meredith Grey aren't especially loved.
I don't think Joffrey is hated hated though, I think it is love to hate. Most people like that the character exists, let's put it that way.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Meredith, because from what I saw she's really annoying.
ReplyDeleteOff the list
- Miss Brows, Damon & Alaric (TVD)
- Miss Sh%tborn and Jon Snow(flake) (GOT)
- Mercy (Salem)
Meredith gets my vote,a very annoying lead. Mary Margaret isnt loved for sure, her character is so done on the show, I dont dislike her but dont love her either. I am shocked that Castle is on the list, IMO is one of the best characters on the show.
ReplyDeleteNone of them
ReplyDeleteSerena- Gossip Girl, im not sure was she loved by fans?
ReplyDeleteI thought Jake had fans. A lot of fans ship him and Olivia.
ReplyDeleteWhy do people hate mary so much from OUAT? I really like her. Glad that Emily is way at the bottom. How can you not like that awesome woman
ReplyDeleteAgreed for Emily, one of the best characters on Revenge.
ReplyDeleteShe was so great and so cool!
ReplyDeleteSome of mine:
ReplyDelete- Andrea, TWD: I loved her too, even though she made some bad calls in Season 3, I think that she is still the biggest mistake the show has done in killing her off, maybe tied with Beth now.
- Michaela, How to Get Away with Murder
- Walter O'Brien, Scorpion (I am not sure whether or not he fits in here, but it always seems to me that people like the secondary characters way more than Walter and I love Walter, he is one of my favorite new characters of the year and the main reason I like Scorpion)
- Skye, Agents of Shield (she is as loved by some as she is hated by others, so I think she fits here)
- Katrina, Sleepy Hollow (it's not that I love her per se, but I have no issue with her, and she has so much hate that I think she belongs here)
- Tom Keen, The Blacklist (I love him and it really adds to the show when he is there for me, although most of the fandom seems to hate him)
- Laurel, Arrow (it got better this year since more people seemed to warm up to her and even I liked her way better this year than before, but I never had the problems the entire fandom had with her last year, despite her flaws)
- Fitz, Scandal (I love this character)
- David/ Charming, Once Upon a Time (way better than MM, despite the writers often having no clue what to do with him)
- Mike and Rachel, Suits (obviously I like the trio of Harvey, Donna and Jessica more but I think I like these two way more than most people do. Certainly way more than Louis)
- Sansa Stark, Game of Thrones (probably my favorite character of the series)
- Owen, Grey's Anatomy (people hate him but I really enjoy him)
- Jackson Avery, Grey's Anatomy (never understood what people's issue was here)
- Kate Austen, Lost (one of my favorite female characters around. And I don't think I've ever had as many discussions when arguing for a character against pretty much everyone else as I did with Kate)
- Ted Mosby, How I Met Your Mother (I never understood the hate. I think he is one of the most relatable lead characters around and he was the heart and glue of the series all along)
- Thirteen, House (one of the most interesting characters around who unfairly got a lot of hate from the fandom for allegedly replacing Cameron, who I also loved, just because both were women)
- Lee Adama, BSG (my second favorite character of the series)
Wow that was long! Lol! From your list, I really like Ward too but I don't get the feeling he is disliked. Shane neither. I mean I hated him in the late portion of S2 but it was a "love to hate" kind of thing, I think we were supposed to feel that way about the character.
This!!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind Jake and I like him most of the time but I don't think he is even one of the most popular characters of the show.
ReplyDeleteMaybe i have got the wrong impression but most people seem to put him into the "love to hate" kind of thing and they are very excited when he is on. I am quite tired of him and his gimmicks by now, I just find him annoying.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't suggesting he doesn't. I think there are just as many people who like him as those who don't like him, so I wouldn't qualify him as a "Loved" character, which to me sounds like a universally accepted thing.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there were people disliking Emily, she is such an amazing character.
ReplyDeleteAs for MM, i don't dislike her but I don't like her either. She is just very pointless and boring, and I just wish they would write her out and bring us other exciting regulars. She has no role at all on the show anymore imo.
Well emily seems to really beloved but how can't she?! She is fabulous!!!!
ReplyDeleteI never had anything against MM and hope they Do Not kill her off.
ReplyDeleteAnd Charlie, well, he was just a drug addict. Sure, his death was emotional and all that, but he was annoying for the most of seasons 1-2.
Other than that, I can't think of characters that I dislike which others like.
Loved Andrea too! I agree big mistake by TWD. Especially since I have a hard time enjoying several of the newer characters they brought in in 4.
ReplyDeleteI don't want them to kill her off either.
ReplyDeleteI think she should be a recurring character that shows up every now and then to support Emma and such, but she doesn't need her own arcs and episodes. Just my opinion of course.
Oh okay i understand!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the new characters, I just think Andrea had a lot of potential.
ReplyDeleteI'm always seeing loads of hate for Ward but he definitely has his fans too. Every time I'd say I liked Shane to someone they'd say they hated him, but that wasn't very often, he was my favourite character on that show.
ReplyDeleteFrom your list I also like (or at least don't dislike) Walter, Skye, Charming, Mike, Rachel, Owen, Jackson & Lee. I had no idea people hated Lee, I loved that character. Mike is my favourite character on Suits, I was surprised when I'd finished binging it that Harvey was so much more popular and so many people hated Mike.
Hook.
ReplyDeleteFrom this list :Toby from PLL.I like Carrie,Olivia,Sheldon,Caroline,Stefan,Emily
ReplyDeleteI agree about stiles, I hated they focused more on him in season 3. Even though season 4 was a bit messy, Stiles being less focused on was my favorite part. I am scared for season five everyone is freeing with him.
ReplyDeleteYou don't like emily?
ReplyDeleteMy main problem with Stiles in season 4 was that he wasn't effected by what happened to him at all, like at all, he's just so bland to me! I sadly won't be watching season 5 as much as I love Scott I just can't do it.
ReplyDeleteSkyler White
ReplyDeleteYou only mentioned the things Snow did in ONE particular episode of season 4.
ReplyDelete"....and the whole mess in 4b."
ReplyDeleteMaybe people didn't hate Lee, I just have the impression he was never nearly as popular as the likes of William, Kara or Laura, but maybe that's just me.
ReplyDeleteAs for Suits, I think most people hate Mike because of the not-Harvard storyline associated with him which is often people's least favorite aspect of the show.
ReplyDeleteYou sure that was there before?
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch BSG when it was on either. Was season 4 when Lee went into politics? I liked him a lot less then. I loved Laura as well but like Lee, some of her decisions made me like her a little less every now and then.
ReplyDeleteI'm always a bit surprised how people who don't like the Harvard storyline in Suits can stick with the show since it's been a main storyline every season so far.
No I got embarrassed and added it!! Of course it was there before. I recommend reading the entire comments next time.
ReplyDeleteI do.Shes under the list I made if characters in the poll that I do like( of the shows in the poll I watch)
ReplyDeleteYes S4 was when Lee went into politics.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the Harvard storyline but I think it's been handled enough.
Olivia Pope.
ReplyDeleteOh ok i misread Your comment
ReplyDeleteDon't really hate them but:
ReplyDelete-Seriously waiting for someone to just hit Sheldon Cooper.
ReplyDeleteDAWN!!!
ReplyDeleteFrom the list, Snow White, Castle, and sometimes Sheldon.
ReplyDeleteIf it were characters I hate that most others hate too, Dawn would be on the top of my list.
ReplyDeleteDo we really know no one else would hire him? He wasn't really trying. But from what I remember it's always Mike storming into Harvey's office giving out and then either Harvey tells Mike what he did for him or Donna tells him later. If I was Mike I'd probably be the same, like I said I don't think his issue is ever really with Harvey, he's just panicking and he automatically goes to Harvey because he knows on some level Harvey will be the one to snap him out of it. I disagree that the smaller conflicts don't matter compared to all the good things Harvey has done. Lots of small things can add up and suddenly he has another Trevor-like relationship on his hands.
ReplyDeleteMary Margaret aka Snow-I stopped watching Once because the character was so annoying and the actress couldn't act.
ReplyDeleteLol the writers of sleepy hollow
ReplyDeleteSnow White.
ReplyDeleteSelf-righteous beyond belief and a hypocrite. On top of that, she (and her husband) is boring as a character.
Toby's supposed to be their 'inside man', yet gets nothing useful out of that station. Even the cops don't like him. Well, except the new guy. But what choice does he have..?
ReplyDeleteTom Neville, was the best snivelling fool I've seen in awhile. He'd double-cross anyone. Great lines as well.
ReplyDeleteNow I've looked at your overall list, I can see they're all the conscious/wise and irritating characters of their shows. So, I guess we know what you don't like in your tv set-ups.
He was into Alison before he met Aria.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't there need to be consistency? He dated one chick (the exception) of a certain age and originally thought she was older.
ReplyDeleteHook, I just don't get it. His character is too effeminate and devoid of his original evilness. They are doing the character a big disservice.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she can evolve or become Sleeping Beauty.
ReplyDeleteCockyness and entitlement. Not nice.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but did not know anyone "loved" her. ;) She was a spoiled, whiny brat.
ReplyDeleteOut of those options, it's Ted from HIMYM.
ReplyDelete- Ted "I'll tell you a long-ass story about me meeting your mom so you'll give me permission to bang your aunt" Mosby
ReplyDelete- Sheldon "I'm such a nerd with all my geeky references to non-geeky material cuz I'm such a geek...HALO 3" Cooper
ReplyDeleteFrom this poll? No one. I like my characters in this poll.
ReplyDeletenever called myself a real fan, I just dislike the breed of entitled sh*t that destroys shows because "we need them together"
ReplyDeleteand of course Shannon likes this post, duh
it's weird since most mentioned characters aren't that beloved.
ReplyDeleteStefan has been a sore spot for shippers for a while
Of course she did. She's my twin.
ReplyDeleteI know, that makes you two so adorwabwe ^^
ReplyDeleteBut nah, never considered myself a real fan but let's be honest here: TVD is crap these days, isn't it? And why is that?
On the list:
ReplyDelete-Stefan Salvatore (TVD): I used to downright hate him before his "ripper past" reveal ...but now I simply dislike him only when his hypocrisy kicks in.
Off the list:
-Klaus Mikaelson (TO): He used to be my favorite character on TVD, but on TO (esp. season 2), he's constantly putting everyone around him in jeopardy and actually gets away with it because, "duh, Hope! He's a father, he loves his daughter , so deal with it." How about no!?
No other character that I dislike is very much liked.
The TVD was already built on the love triangle so romance didn't ruin the show. The overall quality of the show declined so much, including its romantic plots.
ReplyDeleteI only have three characters on this poll, and only Stefan was the one I hated for years. (But I still gave him props when I felt he deserved it) but I learned to tolerate him.
ReplyDeleteSeason 1 and 2 weren't that heavy on romance, in fact it held a pretty good balance between romantic arc and mytharc. Season 3, with the rise of the twitter-storm or Delena/Klaroline, completely derailed the writers focus on the storyline
ReplyDeleteReally? I never found a reason to hate him as he was, to me, the most bland character of all. Not annoying, not really wrong in anything but just there.
ReplyDeleteHowever he, like so many other characters, was in the way of something popular wich is why (I think) many hated him
You just named two of NOTPs, and since I'm so not in the mood for a shipping war I'm going refrain from answering.
ReplyDeleteNOTP?
ReplyDeletenot in a fighting mood either
It's the opposite of OTP, as in couples I will never, ever ship.
ReplyDeleteokay...so we do have something in common
ReplyDeleteYeah. It's very unsettling lol
ReplyDeletesorry to ask, but how can you stand to watch some of those shows? I mean some of those you mention are in every scene.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Mike Ausiello, we'll be less annoyed by TGW's Grace, who's getting bumped to recurring status!
ReplyDeletePretty amazing how they took a legendary fairytale villain and turned him into a bozo who has nothing better to do than follow the heroine around like some fawning, lovesick puppy.
ReplyDeleteThere are a number of characters on this poll who don't get a lot of love, so I don't really get the poll. This just seems like a list of lead characters that the pollster doesn't like.
ReplyDeleteRobin Hood and Neal from OUaT. I like Hook. I agree with most that Snow and Charming should become reoccurring characters on Once.
ReplyDeleteThis poll is a bit pointless. Why was one character from one show picked and not another one? I, for one, love Stefan Salvatore and dislike Damon. Yet I can't vote for Damon here, only Stefan.
ReplyDeleteSame goes for Snow from OUAT. I'm absolutely indifferent to her, but I strongly dislike Hook and Robin Hood (who is to this day, the worst character in this show and actually the reason I stopped watching).
They already have Aurora/Sleeping Beauty.
ReplyDeletehttp://static2.hypable.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Once-Upon-a-Time11.png
ReplyDeleteOH GOD, I CAN'T STAND ROBIN HOOD. My hate for him knows no bounds. BTW, most places I frequent have a low opinion of him too.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame there's no "others" option... I hate Tyrion and Arya from GOT
ReplyDeleteI know. But someone needs to replace her on the show. I'm petition putting Snow White to sleep!
ReplyDeleteBetter yet, have Aurora replace Snow White, and then have Mulan come back. That storyline needs to be resolved.
ReplyDeleteOther for me: Francis / Reign
ReplyDeleteYou hate tyrion and arya :O i love both of them even though arya's arc this season did not get good until the 10th Episode
ReplyDeleteIf he's attracted to a teenager, no, he's still not a pedophile. That term only applies to people who have sexual attraction to children. There's a different term for people who are sexually attracted to teenagers.
ReplyDeleteYou can still find the relationship squicky, but you're using the wrong terminology.
ReplyDeleteThis is tough, as I tend to like all the characters on the shows I watch to some degree or another (presuming they're not villains, of course :p). I guess if I had to pick, I'd probably personally go with Frank and Asher from "How to Get Away with Murder". Frank is just so sleazy, and I don't dislike Asher, but I think his frat-guy attitude can be a little overbearing at times.
ReplyDeleteLindsay. Yes! It seems like everyone loves her, and I can handle her in small doses, but she's in every freakin scene. And it seems like every story/crossover is about her.
ReplyDeleteI also agree about JJ from Criminal Minds. She's always been my least favorite on the show.
I actually hated all the Mathesons on Revolution so she's included. Liam is fresh in my mind.
ReplyDeleteI like Jake, but he definitely gets a lot of fan hate. He would fit better on the alternative poll you proposed (despised characters that you like).
ReplyDeleteSnow is a classic character as is her couple but as a character she's not that loved since season 2 at least... Snowing wasn't good thus year but I still prefer Charming I like personally a bit of all the character (except Zelena) but maybe I could say I like Regina less than most. She's the kind of character you can have strong feelings about but right now I'm rather meh except for Lana's still outstanding talent :)
ReplyDeleteSome shows I drop when my irritation with the character outweighs the good points. Some like Nate on Leverage are balanced out by my love for other characters like Parker, Eliott, and Hardison. Some like Castiel, I just fast forward through most of their scenes. Some shows I marathon so by the time I really hate the character, I'm out of episodes.
ReplyDeleteHmmm.
ReplyDeleteNot on the list but I dislike Erin Lindsay.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, Snow white didn't have the luxury of getting to know Emma from the day she was born. Maybe snow is making up for lost time with her other child.
ReplyDeleteWe're of similar minds about Katrina, and I will also agree with you on Michaela. I like her whole "try and pretend like all is fine when it isn't" attitude and am interested in seeing how she'll handle that next season, and I loved it when she told off her soon to be mother-in-law.
ReplyDeleteI also liked her interactions with Connor-I kinda want to see those two form a grudging, snippy banter-ridden friendship :p.
Damon...... hands down.... worst brother in history... Cain was better.... and as a friend just ask Enzo who he left to burn to death.
ReplyDeleteI love that we agree on this issue. I remembered people complained that Burgess got a whole episode about her, and then they complained that the episode where Atwater and Ruzek went to jail was boring. But it's okay that Lindsay gets every other episode centered around her.
ReplyDeleteWait...
ReplyDeleteHayley from The Originals. She is all smoke and mirrors.
ReplyDeleteCallie from The Fosters
ReplyDeleteDaryl from TWD
Elena from TVD
Elijah from TO
Kurt from Glee
Mary Margaret from OUAT
Francis from Reign
I understand why she was feeling particularly protective of Neal, she doesn't want to lose another child. But she should've dialed it down a little. Especially going to a class for first time mothers. She feels this way and she doesn't even remember the years she spent without Emma, imagine how Emma feels. Also she doesn't really spend that much time with Emma. She doesn't make an effort to bond with her, not like David.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that someone else agrees with me about Lindsay and JJ. They always get so much screen time, it's getting over the top.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I want to wait how this season pans out. Then decide about Toby :-/
ReplyDeleteI also dislike Iris
ReplyDeleteSnow. I loved her first few seasons but she has no point to the story anymore. I hope they find a good SL for her soon
ReplyDeleteHe was actually my favorite character from HIMYM.
ReplyDeleteOh boy, these comments could get juicy. For 'other characters', I'd say:
ReplyDeleteCaptain Hook/Killian Jones (OUAT)
Carol (The Walking Dead) ~ Though, it's not really hate, she's just there for me.
Dany (Game Of Thrones)
Felicity (Arrow)
Rose Tyler (Doctor Who)
Castiel (Supernatural)
Damon Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries)
The struggle when one of the most beloved character's in a fandom, is the one you dislike most??
I agree
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteTo me, they're boring and annoying in both (show and books). That's the reason I can't say it out loud LOL
ReplyDeleteBesides Stefan and Caroline and Bonnie and occasionally Damon I really don't get a shit about any TVD main.
ReplyDeleteYou know Mac you just sound perpetually angry at this point. Hell half of those don't actually have anything to do with romance or plot problems you just dislike them.
ReplyDeleteDude TVD always been ship heavy. Since the pilot. Hell in the second episode alone Stefan and Elena are obsessed with each other basically.
ReplyDeleteYeah not as bad as Delena but ugh no.
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't anything to do with ships (except Felicity, that's all about ships) but the rest I dislike due to genuine hate.
ReplyDeleteSure it was ship heavy but always had a good eye on the mythology.
ReplyDeleteThat was lost in season 3
Pretty much everyone on that list, ha. With the exception of Stefan; I never minded him when I was a fan of TVD.
ReplyDeleteEh not really only difference in three was Delena became an actual god awful thing.
ReplyDeleteI'd fight on you Felicity, but honestly it'd be a rehash, pointless, I don't want to, and you'll never see any part of my side just like how I view yours. (Seriously man the main arc wasn't- nope not doing it).
ReplyDelete
