The Whispers - Whatever It Takes - Review

We got another captivating episode of The Whispers this week. Sean has his memory back and he’s meeting with some very powerful political leaders including the President of the United States to discuss the rock. Wes is there as well and he classifies the entity as Alien. It was an intriguing scene to watch Wes and Sean face off on what they know about Drill and how they should proceed with handling the situation. Wes believes he knows best from studying and dealing with case, but Sean completely disagrees as he had been living with this entity for three months. The President sides with Wes, deciding that he must see the rock in person. Am I the only one thinking this isn’t such a good idea? Nonetheless, he ends up going and after seeing for himself decides that they should protect the rock.
Sean returns home after we witness him being threatened by Wes’s boss, The Security of Defence. Sean either has to continue working with them regarding the rock and Drill, or he goes to prison. To me it’s a no brainer on what he chooses but we don’t know what he decides until later in the episode. The reunion at home is nothing but tension filled between Claire and Sean. Claire barely got to talk with him as he spent most of his time with Henry, and when they did get time together it was obvious that Sean was mad and didn’t want to talk to Claire. Both Milo Ventimiglia and Lily Rabe did an amazing job showcasing the awkwardness and tension between the two characters. The next morning we learn that Sean is going on another mission, which means he chose to continue helping the military find answers, or at least that’s what we think he is going to do.

After The President visits the rock we know Drill is up to something. He had contacted his daughter and she’s playing one of his games. This can’t be good! Drill is not only playing at something that involves The President’s daughter but he’s also interacting with Lena. This must be leading up to something major as she is the only adult that Drill is contacting. I’m actually liking Lena more and more, now that she shown us that her main goal is to protect her daughter, Minx. I do find it interesting that Lena hasn’t told anything to Wes yet though. Lena was able to help Wes figure out that Drill was trying to get to the rock through The President’s daughter. It was surprising to me that Wes didn’t come to that realization earlier as there were a few hints for him to pick up on. Wes does conclude that the rock is a way for Drill to send a message to more entities like him.

Sean appears to be more of a guinea pig to the government than anything else at the moment. It doesn’t take long for him to convince the doctor to help him destroy the rock once he explains that it’s dangerous and that it’s purpose is to destroy mankind. He also gets some help from Claire when she convinced Wes to let her see Sean. She was able to sneak in some items that Sean needed in order to reverse the charge around the rock, hoping this would stop Drill’s plan. I was on the edge of my seat wondering if they would be able to do this in time!

Just as they were trying to change the magnets to stop Drill, Wes comes barging in with military reinforcement, shooting the doctor and throwing Claire to the ground. It’s too late as it appears that Drill is now in the rock. Sean pleads with Claire and Wes so that he can finish what they started as this would be the best way to destroy Drill. This has to be my favourite scene of the series so far. It was very emotional as Wes pulls Claire away from Sean, telling her that he forgives her but that they must go. A few seconds later Sean blows up the rock and miraculously, was able to survive the blast. With sirens in the background we know it’s only a matter of time before the military arrive to arrest them but Wes gives the keys to his SUV, telling them to go. He knows that he needs to do some major damage control before something bad happens to Claire or Sean. Now Claire and Sean are on the run. They are trying to get to Henry, but Jessup Rollins was ordered to put Henry in custody and they may not get to him in time.

The last few seconds of this episode were just as exciting as the rest. Minx wakes Lena up to tell her that Drill wants to make a deal with her. So now we know Drill isn’t gone, even though the rock was destroyed. What does he want from Lena? What’s going to happen now that Sean and Claire destroyed the rock? I’m not sure but i’m looking forward to finding out what’s next! How about you?

  1. When Bennigan got his memory back i was scared that now that he wasn't connected to Drill anymore and that would make one of the best shows of the season boring because Milo played mysterious John Doe/Bennigan so well. But he managed to be an awesome badass character while being a normal boring human like the rest of the adults, don't get me wrong i'm still pissed he's normal, do you agree or is it just me? Also did you think Minx would do something crazy in that scene?

  2. I don't think Sean getting his memories back doesn't lessen his value as a character as he still holds the knowledge he gained throughout the months after his amnesia and knows fully well the danger that Drill brings to the entire planet. And for that reason alone, no doubt Drill will find a way to get rid of him and that is where Minx comes in.

Minx is Drill's spokesperson so she'll only forward to anyone whatever message Drill sends through the little bugger.

  3. Wait you think Drill sees Sean as an enemy to him now? Have we ever seen Minx morally question Drill's motives though? Now that you said she's his spokesperson, Sean DOES hold information but it doesn't seem like Drill cares about Sean anymore.

  4. 1. Not exactly, but he's mad pissed at Sean after what just happened. No doubt about it.
    2. Never once was she ever hesitant.
    3. Drill never cared for anyone but its own. Sean is merely linked to him in some way.

  5. Yeah i figured, okay i wasn't sure, Minx is DEFINITELY the only one that doesn't ever question Drill, morally or at all. I mean she even had a disagreement and Drill didn't even retaliate. No i didn't mean "care" as in a emotional level LOL, i meant "care" as in is he still keeping an eye on him n case Sean comes up with more plans to stop him.
