The Whispers - The Archer - Review

AL Reviews The WhispersLast week’s episode of the The Whispers left me worried that something would happen to Wes, but within the first few seconds we find out he’s fine. He’s on a cargo plane flying the mysterious meteorite back to the United States so they can study and analyze it there. We’re not sure what this thing is yet but we do know that it’s related to Drill somehow. Wes seems to be really captivated by the meteorite. We see him reaching out to touch it, and the whole time I was thinking that was a horrible idea. He got a dose of an electric charge and wisely decided not to try to touch the meteorite anymore. Shortly after that Wes is on the phone with Minx and you could tell she was up to something, though it seems like she always is. What was she doing? She was trying to find out the location of the meteorite for Drill. Minx seems like Drill’s most loyal friend and I can’t say that’s a good thing!
It looks like the government is looking for answers about the meteorite. They bring in a doctor to study the object. She specializes in what’s described as the outer reaches of the universe. Wes starts to get on the same page as Claire and he realizes that they may not be dealing with a whom but rather a what! It surprises me that it didn’t take long for him to jump on board with the fact they may be dealing with supernatural forces. At the same time it does make sense as he was one of the ones to come in direct contact with the object that is linked to the mysterious events.
Elsewhere, Claire goes to visit Sean again. As she was trying to talk to him about the other kids involved he informs her that he couldn’t really focus on what she was saying. He keeps having these feelings that he was being called somewhere but he was locked up and couldn’t leave. We know that Sean and the meteorite are linked but this shows us they are physically linked.
I’ve mentioned it before but I need to say it again: I love how everything in this show is connected. This leads to a really intense scene between Claire and Wes, where she lets Wes know that he was playing into the hands of Drill. Everything that they have done so far was what Drill wanted. Claire tells Wes that they need to find the answer to why this is happening before it is too late.
Later Claire was able to talk her way back into working on the case again. Her idea was to bring all the kids together in order to get them to talk. In the process of doing that Claire goes to Lena to convince her to allow Minx to be part of the group. That didn’t go well at all! Both actresses played that scene very well. I could feel how awkward that was for them. Even though Claire was trying to be very sensitive to Lena’s feelings, Lena refuses, saying that she knew what was best for her daughter. Even without Minx, Claire goes ahead with the meeting with all of the kids that had contact with Drill. From the start it doesn’t go as planned. When Wes finds out about the meeting he steps in with cameras and soldiers making it difficult for Claire to control the situation as she had planned to.
During the group meeting Claire starts asking questions and the kids start opening up about Drill. When this happens it’s apparent that Drill isn’t too happy! The lights start flickering and then go out. The kids stand up as Drill starts communicating with them. While this was happening Wes saw a presence in the room with Henry through a thermal camera. We don’t know why Drill was with Henry but I have a sneaking suspicion that there was a reason for this. Once the group of military solders break down the door Drill disappears and the lights come back on. One of the little girls in the group gives a message to Claire from Drill, saying: “You’re not going to win.” Is it just me or did anyone else take that as a threat?
After that Wes seems to have some more answers about what Drill is. It’s some from of energy that is looking for food i.e. nuclear radiation from a plant meltdown. He also learns that the meteorite is some kind of vessel that travelled 220 light years to earth. In the midst of finding this out the vessel transmits a frequency that leads them to believe it was trying to communicate with someone. At that same moment Sean causes a disturbance in his cell causing Wes to go to him. Sean pleads with Wes to let him go to the vessel. He complies and when Sean finally reunites with it he touches it and is given his memory back.
It was a great episode with a lot of intense moments, some awkward moments, and even some questions that were answered. As we get more answers we become filled with more questions. I’m wondering what Sean will remember besides his family and if he will be the same person that Claire once knew. Do you think this was all part of Drill’s plan or is he done with Sean?
No wonder Drill can't be see. He's a big ball of floating methane gas of fart.
