The Strain - Fort Defiance - Advanced Preview

Jul 25, 2015

This Sunday, The Strain will air its third episode of its second season. The premiere episode was a great start to the season and last Sunday's episode was not bad, but could have been better given how great the source material is at this point. The ratings for the second episode were not as great as the creators would like it to be, having dropped ever so slightly from the premiere's modest '1.66'.

The trajectory the series is taking with regard to the third episode is something that is a deviation from the source material, but still works well within the world of The Strain. We will see a continuation of Bolivar and his current job duty The Master has given him, as well as, a new 'side gig' that should offer some interesting interactions in the coming episodes.

Eph and Nora also continue their experiments on the McGeavers that have now turned into full-on strigoi. However, with the advances Eph and Nora have been making with a cure, that could all change and begin tipping the scales of certain battles in their favor. This is probably the most interesting story line that has emerged from the first few episodes.

I hope fans will start watching The Strain more as I believe the season will get better very soon. Chuck Hogan, the co-author of the source material along with Guillermo Del Toro, will pen episode four titled, 'The Silver Angel'. The Strain seems to be a series that thrives on a slow burn type of story with payoffs for the viewers later in the season. I believe the plot will begin to come together and be much more enjoyable as the next few episodes air. We can only hope the ratings start rising to ensure future seasons.

Scenes To Notice

- We will see Gus in a training session with the strigoi, Vaun. It's an interesting scene with a great fight sequence.

- Fet and Dutch continue their 'relationship' during these dark times at the most ridiculous moments as we have seen in episode two when they went skinny-dipping. This episode will find them...ummmm...errr... well, you will see. Let's just say it's, again, probably not the best time to be doing...that.

- Gus and Vaun, with some helpful strigoi, infiltrate The Stoneheart Group Building.

Taglin Game

My SpoilerTV friends like to include some game in their Advanced Previews of the shows they cover so I thought I would do the same. I will write five Taglines below. Out of the five I will choose one for my Review of the episode I will post after it airs. All of you can guess in the comment section which one I will use. The benefit to all of you is through the taglines you will get a little more understanding of what the episode is about...possibly. We can try this game out and if no one enjoys it I can come up with some other incredibly awesome idea for future Advanced Previews.

1. The Strain - Fort Defiance - Review: "Win or Die"

2. The Strain - Fort Defiance - Review: "Fade Away"

3. The Strain - Fort Defiance - Review: "Living On A Prayer"

4. The Strain - Fort Defiance - Review: "Hangman"

5. The Strain - Fort Defiance - Review: "Worm Juice Eye Drops"

Thank you for checking out my Advanced Preview of this season's second episode! If anyone has any questions about the episode I would be happy to answer them as long as it is not too spoilery. Just ask me in the comments section. If not, then I hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the second episode of The Strain on Sunday night!

  1. I kinda like "Worm Juice Eye Drops" as I feel like it's more in keeping with the craziness the show could be and reflective of a future key scene highlight.

And of course, I could somehow relate to the tagline as I don't regularly use eye drops very often because I'm too lazy to do so (despite what my optometrist said in my last check up that I should). Hihihi
