Last Sunday night, The Strain aired it's second season premier episode to ratings that are dangerously close to scraping bottom. Personally, I enjoyed the episode and thought it was a great start to a season that feels like it could be better than the first. I'm not sure what qualifies as 'good' or 'bad' ratings at FX, but, needless to say, The Strain needs to up it's game if it is to be safe for future season approval.
The second episode this season continues the major plot line of locating the Occido Lumen, the ancient tome that holds secrets to defeating The Master once and for all. Setrakian did not tell his teammates about meeting The Ancients or their recruitment of his skills in locating The Master or The Lumen, which should be a short story arc for the first few episodes. In last week's episode we witnessed The Master still injured and burned from the events of last season's finale and is looking for a new home for his body and soul. In the second episode we will see the next steps involved in this transformation, if it is to be carried out at all.
The second episode will also feature several flashback scenes that add some important elements to the story. We will see the first meeting between Eldritch Palmer and Setrakian as well as the origin story of how Setrakian obtained the wolf's head sword that once belonged to Jusef Sardu all those years ago.
Scenes To Notice
- In the first episode we saw a few great battles between humans and strigoi and this second episode shows our favorite exterminator, Fet, along with Dutch battle some aggressive strigoi to somme very cool ends.
- Eldritch Palmer opens his 'Freedom Center' to help feed people that are suffering from the madness occurring outside. We know that Eldritch is evil so what ulterior motive does he have?
- Eph and Nora expand on their efforts to find a cure to the virus. The scenes showcase their relationship very well as well as Eph giving in to his drinking habits.
Taglin Game
My SpoilerTV friends like to include some game in their Advanced Previews of the shows they cover so I thought I would do the same. I will write five Taglines below. Out of the five I will choose one for my Review of the episode I will post after it airs. All of you can guess in the comment section which one I will use. The benefit to all of you is through the taglines you will get a little more understanding of what the episode is about...possibly. We can try this game out and if no one enjoys it I can come up with some other incredibly awesome idea for future Advanced Previews.
1. The Strain - By Any Means - Review: "Munching on Vampire Brain Juice"
2. The Strain - By Any Means - Review: "In Darkness Bound, In Daylight Destroyed"
3. The Strain - By Any Means - Review: "The Loam"
4. The Strain - By Any Means - Review: "Creatures Of The Night"
5. The Strain - By Any Means - Review: "The Feelers"
Thank you for checking out my Advanced Preview of this season's second episode! If anyone has any questions about the episode I would be happy to answer them as long as it is not too spoilery. Just ask me in the comments section. If not, then I hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the second episode of The Strain on Sunday night!
