  • 04:30 - Icon - Cindy Crawford Developing Drama for NBC Based on the Modeling Wars of the 80's
Cindy Crawford is developing a drama for NBC, based on the modeling world in the 1980’s, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series, tentatively titled “Icon,” marks Crawford’s television producing debut.

Anne Heche and James Tupper will also serve as exec producers with Crawford and Robin Bissell (“The Hunger Games”) who will pen the project, hailing from Universal TV.

“Icon,” in very early development, revolves around the modeling wars in the ’80s that occurred between Ford Modeling Agency and Elite Model Management. The show is completely fictionalized, rather than a re-telling of Crawford’s own experiences. No actual names of models or figures from the time will be used.

Crawford’s role will remain strictly as a producer, and she will not appear as a character in the series.

  • 04:30 - Lavalantula Sequel Green-lighted by Syfy for a Summer 2016 Premiere; Titled: 2 Lava 2 Lantula
Syfy is looking to build another monster mashup franchise, greenlighting a sequel to original movie Lavalantula, which premiered on Saturday as part of Sharnado week.

Set for summer 2016, the Lavalantula sequel, from Cinetel Films, will be titled 2 Lava 2 Lantula! The original movie saw Steve Guttenberg star as Colton West, a 90s action movie star who is on the waning end of his career and in trouble with the law when volcanoes erupt in the Santa Monica mountains. The eruption sends an avalanche of fire-breathing, lava-spewing arachnids who wreak havoc on the city of Angels and some of its most historic landmarks. In the movie, Guttenberg reteamed with his Police Academy castmates Leslie Easterbrook, Marion Ramsey, and Michael Winslow, along with Nia Peeples (Pretty Little Liars), Ralph Garmin (Sharktopus), Patrick Renna (The Sandlot), among others. I hear the intention is to bring back the cast, with talent conversations just starting. Syfy is rerunning the original movie on Wednesday.

With Lavalantula, Syfy is looking to replicate the success of the 2013 movie Sharknado, which became a surprise viral hit, spawning a successful franchise. Its third installment, Oh Hell No!, aired last week, and a fourth movie has been greenlighted.

  • 04:30 - Paradise Pictures - USA Network - Georgina Reilly, Daren Kagasoff and Matthew Del Negro Join Cast
EXCLUSIVE: Georgina Reilly (L.A. Complex), Daren Kagasoff (The Secret Life Of An American Teenager) and Matthew Del Negro (Scandal) have signed on to star in USA’s Old Hollywood pilot Paradise Pictures, written and executive produced bySuits scribe Rick Muirragui and executive produced by Suits creator/executive producer Aaron Korsh. The period drama revolves around ambitious people striving to get to the top in 1940s Hollywood, when the dream factory was at its peak. Little do they know the challenges they’re about to face: the end of the studio monopolies, the blacklist and the disruptive new technology of television.

Reilly will play Gretchen Whalon, a successful screenwriter at rival film studio RKO Pictures and ex-girlfriend of the head of production at Paradise Pictures, Tom Kirby (Morgan Spector). Their complicated relationship resurfaces when he asks her to rewrite the script for his dream project. Del Negro plays Ray Aberdeen, the head of security at Paradise Pictures, and Kirby’s right-hand man. Being the studio “fixer” requires Aberdeen to clean up messes, cover up scandals and mete out justice to contract players who have crossed the line. Kagasoff is Wyatt Osborne, an assistant in the studio’s editing department whose real goal is to be a director. A dreamer and a schemer, when he learns the studio’s highest paid screenwriter is writing a novel instead of the studio’s next project, Wyatt writes his own draft and presents it to Kirby.
