The Good Wife - Season 7 - Jeffrey Dean Morgan Joins as Regular; Makenzie Vega Exits as Regular

Update 19:09

TVLine has confirmed that Makenzie Vega — who plays the onscreen daughter of Julianna Margulies’ Alicia — is no longer a series regular.

The CBS drama is now down three series regulars as it heads into Season 7. In addition to Vega, Archie Panjabi and Matthew Goode also lost their full-time status at the end of Season 6. However, unlike Panjabi and Goode, Vega will maintain a presence on the show (much the same way her Good Wife sibling Graham Phillips has in recent seasons). According to an insider, the status change ties into the show’s continuing efforts to work around its cast’s schedules while also sustaining storylines.

ACTOR JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN JOINS THE CAST OF “THE GOOD WIFE”
AS A SERIES REGULAR FOR SEASON SEVEN

NEW YORK – July 6, 2015 – Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan will join the critically acclaimed drama THE GOOD WIFE as a series regular during the show’s upcoming seventh season. Morgan will play Alex, a calm, experienced hourly investigator whom Alicia hires.

"We've loved and admired Jeffrey Dean Morgan for years, and we were thrilled to hear that Julianna did too, so it was a no-brainer to ask him to join our troupe," said executive producers Robert and Michelle King.

Currently, Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars in the CBS summer drama EXTANT. He also starred in the miniseries “Texas Rising,” which explored the formation of the Texas Rangers, and as hotel owner Ike Evans in the critically acclaimed series “Magic City.” Prior to that, he had a recurring role in the award-winning comedy series “Weeds,” and on the dramas “Supernatural” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” Recently, Morgan completed the feature films “Desierto,” “The Salvation,” “Solace” and “Bus 657.” Previously, he starred in the films “Watchman” and “P.S. I Love You.”

THE GOOD WIFE returns for its seventh season Sunday, Oct. 4 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network.

THE GOOD WIFE stars Julianna Margulies, Christine Baranski, Matt Czuchry, Alan Cumming and Zach Grenier. It is produced by Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions in association with CBS Television Studios. Ridley Scott, Robert King, Michelle King, Brooke Kennedy, David W. Zucker, Craig Turk and Leonard Dick are executive producers.

  1. DAMNIT!

SPN was (again) too dull to nag him

  2. I am not against this at all but it is an odd fit, never had associated him with the show, if that makes sense. But I don't dislike it. Still wish they would have kept the awesome Matthew Goode though

  3. Look how they added that Julianna also liked him.

  4. Or they never tried, or he never truly wanted to come back.

  5. He jumped away from Extant fast, haha.

  6. Ewwwwwww. He was the worst in Supernatural and Grey's. The Good Wife is jumping the shark so fast.

  7. Unexpected choice, but I'm interested to see how he fits in

  8. Or, he is simply too expensive. CBS can afford to pay more to actors than the CW.

  9. Just about caught up. (I just am waiting on the dvd release of season 6). Agree with everyone else who thinks this is a weird fit, but I also know I have seen a lot of reoccurring actors I would never expect to see on here; this show has a way of surprising with their talent!

  12. Wow, that's a lot of cast changes for a long-running show. Question is: will season 7 be the last?

  13. An investigator? What happened to Robyn? I liked her. This show has had some serious cast changes in the past year. when they lost 3 very good regulars: Will, Finn and Kalinda..Then there are some characters who disappeared with no explanation, like Robyn or Taye Digg's character. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is OK, but I still can't stop thinking of him as Denny, which was easily one of the worst Greys anatomy storylines, ever!

  14. Lol! Many would disagree with 'ewwww' concerning JDM. But as i always say to each their own!

I wouldn't know about his performance in SPN but he was just fine in Grey's....in IMOO of course!

  17. Maybe, but its not like they had 22 eps to film. He was available so i can see him going for it.

Robin's the investigator at Florrick Agos. JDM's character will be the investigator at Alicia's new firm. I like that they went in a completely different direction from Kalinda.

  19. I'm not sure that Robyn is the investigator anywhere. By "completely different direction", are you referring to the fact that he's male? LOL. It's not like they've said much more about the character.

  20. I was trying to make a funny :(

  21. I don't think he's too expensive, especially when they brought in another guy for Supernatural as main status.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The people they brought in as regulars haven't been on big broadcast TV shows like Grey's Anatomy and Extant. They haven't been in major films. JDM became a hot commodity after he left Supernatural and he's still riding that wave. TGW, has a bigger budget than SPN and can pay him more. Maybe SPN could have pulled off a one shot return of John Winchester, but JDM would have had to drop his price. Some stars have enough affection for their previous shows to do that. Others don't. In season two, the show couldn't make the schedule work around JDM's other commitments. Now, I do think salary has a lot to do with not being able to get him back.

  23. I don't think it has anything to do with price, especially even when it comes to The CW who could obviously pay whatever to bring the character of John Winchester back in the form of JDM.

  24. With their list of guest actors, they could afford him. It's the writers having no idea what to do with him. He went to the SPN Vegas Con, still saying he'd love to come back. I'm not going to be surprised if he makes a cameo next season.

Male, older, presumably one not to use his sexual wiles to get the information he needs.

    ReplyDelete
  26. He's not the big name he used to be, but IA, he probably is still out of SPN's price range.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Glad to see he's back to being steadily employed.
