During the DC Entertainment Page to Screen panel at 2015 San Diego Comic Con international, Geoff Johns confirmed that the winged helmet was a story point. He assured the audience that fans would see Jay Garrick in Season 2 of The Flash.

ReplyDeleteDC had Guggenheim kill off Deadshot because of Will Smith, had them scrap a whole Harley Quinn plot because of the Suicide Squad movie, had Waller quickly written out of the show and sent Katana off to the valley of forgotten characters.

ReplyDeleteI think S2A could be about trying to bring Jay back "home" (wherever that is).
It's already been said we're getting Earth 2 and the multiverse anyway and Jay's not the sort to do that. Tip toeing around it with the character himself would be gratuitous. Just come out and do it. Through the multiverse the possibilities are infinite. Having him trying to get back to Earth 2 could be cool. But it'd also be really difficult to justify why it's hard, since and Flashes can traverse dimensions and universes. And as long as Barry exists in even one universe Speedsters will always have power. Unless they weakened Jay.

ReplyDeleteI still think that John character is someone else and that another speedster/Jay will appear later in the season.
But with all the secreacy surrounding the casting (casting call out for a month and no news) it is quite possible it is Jay and they'll reveal it tonight.
Maybe he'll think that revealing Earth2 could change something in the current timeline.
But trying to bring him back should be neat, I assume a villain followed him to CC and will stick around. ^_^
When Jay does appear I wouldn't mind (hell I'd love) hints of another Speedster saving others and Barry eventually finding and chasing him but when they do meet Jay then revealing he's from another Earth must be done. Secrets would just be OOC (and it would piss off so many fans). Then they team up to fight some villain, and afterwards use Star Labs or Cisco's vibrational powers to help find a way back to Earth 2 and do so through the Speed Force. Actually they could introduce Solomon Grundy through a Earth 2 worm hole (the Mirakuru villain Cyrus Gold in season two of Arrow was a adaptation of Grundy's namesake).

Doubt this is confirmed though.
Overall I have much more faith in Andrew and Greg as I saw them kill Arrow for 2 seasons and Flash last year. So i think whenever a Speedster appears it will be done well.
From what I've seen Guggenheim still had more involvement in Arrow seasons 1 and 2 than Kreisberg or Berlanti. So that's not a fair assessment.

ReplyDeleteI know the "bashing/hate" towards Marc isn't okay but atm I see his Olicity obssession as the main reason for season 3 not being on par with the previous ones.
Overall S03 wasn't that bad idealogy wise, but it lacked of focus and proper build up. I even found the start of the season good, till they created this blindspot for Malcolm and making his character weak.
He doesn't have an Olicity obsession. By that logic all three had an Laureliover or whatever it was called in season one because it existed. And even then season three's problems are due to more problems with pacing and implementation of writing and how writing was done (seriously any actual focus on there relationship was what three episodes and they had no influence on any actual arc of the season). And Malcolm this season at least could mess up and fail unlike in one, and went through some actual development.
ReplyDeleteIt was Laliver or Lauliver? Not even important. But with Oliver and Laurel is was more about the last pieces of his humanity holding on to the person Laurel loved and the person that loved Laurel. It was more character building and profound, at least from my pov.
ReplyDeleteOlicity had a natural flow the first 2 seasons and than somehow it went all over the place. The focus on Olicity was stretched throughout the season and loomed over the main character the whole season. The constant pining I can't but I will was way too much for me.
I liked Malcolm being humanized this season but the things Oliver tolerated were to far of a stretch.
I agree on the pacing issues and the way they tried to set up stories and character arcs was boring.
Laurel and Oliver was also a incessantly toxic relationship, that caused Oliver to cheat on her with her sister, Sandra Hawke, and basically betray his best friend and was awful and towards the end of one so contrived. While it spoke to Oliver's innate humanity, so did and does his relationship with Thea, Diggle, Moira, Roy, Felicity, McKenna and Helena, Slade and basically every relationship that's ever had any positive or even negative side. I agree that the pining was too much at certain points, but again still had no impact on Oliver's actual decisions in regards to the league or outside their relationship. Oliver definitely let Malcolm get away with too much, but I'm kinda okay with it. Because Oliver did it out of arrogance, and basically emotional blindness and he did at the end finally gain his clarity on Malcolm, and his utter hatred of the guy. Plus if he didn't work with Malcolm things would've gotten a lot worse.
ReplyDeleteYes Oliver and Laurel were toxic but Laurel love that douchey billionaire with all his flaws and he idealized his feelings for her and their relationship as he needed creating the emotional rock he needed to pull through the 5 isolated years. I'm glad they bursted that bubble in S02 but sadly in a terrible manner.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't even that Olicity pissed till the finale aired and that whole mess with the suit happened etc. That was really poor and unnecessary.
I'm glad he worked with Malcolm at the end, his faith is one of the good parts in the finale. A bigger issue I have is that they downgraded Malcolm's strength a bit. Okay Oliver proved to be stronger but atm he is to dominant over him for it to be entertaining. That fight in 3x04 should've been more intense. I wanted a more continious rivalry between the 2 of them.
Then blame Berlanti and Kreisberg they wrote it. Not Guggenheim. But the suit scene yeah I get the kinda bullshit of the scene, but she did help design the suit and it's software and Palmer had as much ability with it in his few flights as Felicity did with the same amount of experience so while it's bullshit it's as least explainable consistent stuff. And with Oliver once again hating Malcolm but having to work with him to beat Hive hopefully we'll get that.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say emotionally hollow. That is a rough term, especially not from her side, she was just a bit too naive and enchanted by the persona Oliver Queen. Oliver had also feelings for her but didn't appreciate what he had before he lost it.
ReplyDeleteATM Ii think it is best not to blame either one just hope that S04 will regain the passing and character development that it lost in S03.
I honestly hope that Malcolm will play his own game independant of Oliver and make his moves, not waiting for Oliver to say okay and stuff.
The development was a lot of what I liked about three. Laurel's, Roy's (granted he didn't do much but what he did and had was terrific), Thea's, Felicity actually doing something outside of Team Arrow and learning more about her, Oliver finally getting past a lot of his demons and although acting like an idiot. Becoming less brutal and realizing that he can be Oliver Queen and be happy is great (because oh man lighter Green Arrow is awesome). Malcolm finally realizing how awful he is and beginning to deal with it, and his immense guilt over the part he played in all of this was just great to watch (that scene in 3x20 where he finds Thea dead). Was it perfect nah, but overall that's actually what I liked a lot about three. Particularly Laurel who before three I hated. Malcolm was pretty independent in three until it came to protecting Thea and using the situation to become Ra's. But yeah seeing Ra's act as his own figure with his newfound power in the war against Hive, Darhk (whose casting is so great), and (apparently) as the new link between the shows would be great. Especially since it'll bring him into conflict with Green Arrow, Speedy and the team.

ReplyDeleteI liked the focus Laurel, Thea and Roy got, Oliver's story was solid but I had some issues with the way they approached it. I thought it would be great for Fel to have a story on her own, but why did they have to make it romantic?? Completely unnecessary! I'm still not sure how much I like MAlcolm's redemption story but I hope his focus this season will be more devious than last year, but him not pushing away from his daughter and having her in mind while planning out the masterplan.
ReplyDeleteWith Malcolm I feel like (and hope) that he will always stay a shade of grey. Never fully good or bad. That way he can be an ally like against Darhk, but also manipulate and betray and use them when it suits him.
