Suits - No Puedo Hacerlo - Review

Jul 16, 2015

'No Puedo Hacerlo" dealt with two story-lines. On one hand it tried to find some sort of closure for Mike and Robert Zane's case, on the other, it introduced the amazing Amy Acker as Louis' sister, Esther. (Who will recur sometime during the season)

This episode felt like a filler one. Somehow the banter between the main characters, that brings out their onscreen chemistry, and fun times for the viewer, was lacking. However, because of the guest stars and watching Harvey's evolution, one can see how this episode was intended to tone down some of the drama and keep moving forward to whatever Aaron Korsh and co has in store for the fans. (And maybe be the start of a new truce between Louis and Harvey, but you can't never know with these two)

As Harvey and Mike are walking out and enjoying some nice manly sports metaphors Harvey spots a beautiful lady having trouble with the security guard. He goes to her rescue, shows off some of his old charming antics and they move on.
The beautiful lady turns out to be Louis sister, and of course he has a conflicted relationship with her, but as soon as she reveals why she's there, Louis has his big brother mode on. The thing is she doesn't want him to destroy her, soon to be, ex husband, but she wants the best, and that's Harvey. Shortly after, she points out she wants Harvey because it would be personal for Louis, and she doesn't want that, he promises to talk to Harvey.
But we and Donna know he can't ask Harvey because they're not on good terms. After having some witty fun with his boss, she points out that one thing Harvey understands is family, and Esther is his family.  Cut to Louis asking Harvey and coming to a mutual understanding, Louis will stay out of his way and he won't sleep with Esther. (Yeah, right)

When Harvey meets with his new client and realizes it's the pretty lady from the morning, the sexual tension is palpable. But as soon as he finds out his husband cheated on her the case feels more personal. In the end, with Rachel's help, they make an offer about her company's state and what the husband deserves; everyone goes home happy. Esther and Harvey go home together. (Or so it seems)
Like always Louis almost messes things up in the heat of the moment, when he finds out that the closing agreement is to give Esther's husband 5% more of what it was stipulated in the beginning, he goes to Donna's apartment. She calms him down, calls him crazy, and sends him on his merry way. Suddenly Donna's apartment door has become a new recurring set on Suits. She needs her beauty sleep, can someone point out this to the men in the firm?
In the end Harvey asks Louis to back him up about the compensation issue, he sees things from Louis' point of view, and Louis from his. But that's not everything. The parallels drawn by Esther's case and Harvey's life, make him step forward a little more. He realizes what Donna has given him for 12 years and that how he was treating her wasn't right. He thanks her for it and Donna smiles. (The scientist plays in the background: see sidenotes)

Meanwhile Mike is having a bad week, except for the moment he meets with Katrina and quotes The Wire, he's not coming to and understanding with Robert Zane about their case. Zane wants to settle and goes over him to talk to the clients, and he wants to keep fighting. Mike confronts Jessica and she reminds him who she is, and how things work. (Season 5 of Suits might be resumed to 'Jessica puts every man in the firm in their place. Jessica is the queen, don't mess with her') In the middle of all of this Rachel get's involved and there's some trouble in paradise. By the end of the episode they make up and Jessica backs him about the case, and saves Zane from being implicated to something he wasn't aware of. There was something not legal going on to make the deal they offered him. Everything is ok again, and Jessica saved the day.

'No puedo hacerlo' means I can't do it, so either they didn't consulted what the phrase really meant, or I can't find the connection with the episode. A more suitable title would have been 'Somos Familia' (We're family) because that was definitely the theme of this episode. Everyone at the firm is family, and even if it's a dysfunctional one, they're making bonds that, I hope, won't be easy to break. (If not, it would be character involution and don't go there again show, please)

Sidenotes
- Dear writers, You should send Louis to therapy too, maybe Dr Agard gives the firm a discount or something.  The poor guy has a lot of issues, and after this episode, yes we get why.
- I'm gonna quote a friend who watched this episode with me, sex for Harvey is easy but talking about his feelings isn't. There's still hope for him and Donna. Even more now that the writers have set new grounds for them. They can't go back but they sure can go forward, (In whatever aspect that might be, if it isn't a romantic one, chose better background songs please.)
- Rachel's development this season has been interesting to watch. Especially the relationships she's forging with other people other than Mike. I feel like she's starting to be a younger sister figure to Harvey. (Everything focusing on the family theme. Does that make Jessica the single mother of all of them?)
- For a filler episode, progress, in how Harvey relates to everyone, was made.

Best lines of the episode

(Donna finds Louis snooping around about what's going on in her and Harvey's meeting. Donna works as his voice of reason)

Louis: You know it would be easier for both of us if you were wrong once in a while.

  1. Lau, what can I say except that I agree with everything you said? Your reviews are always so on point!

Side note: I love that they used "The scientist" in that Harvey and Donna scene. Suits always uses non popular and not very well known music so hearing the cover of this iconic song was nice. You instantly get the feeling of the scene other that knowing exactly what's going on

  2. I know you have written that there's still hope for Darvey, but in my opinion, if they got together, it would ruin the show. This isn't just me being biased because I ship something else, but I just don't think any sort of romantic relationship would be at all satisfying for either of them, especially not during this season or any seasons following. I think they had their chance, and now it should be over between them. However, knowing Korsh, he'll probably give what the fans want.

    Great review anyway. :)

  3. I don't really think this episode was a "filler" It was a great one with a lot of chemistry beetween the characters.
I like the way they integrated the Harvey/Donna relashionship but only "watermarked" during the episode , in parallel of Louis's sister story line.
Amy Acker was really great ... and yes it was all about family .
Maybe that "filler" feeling is more due to the cheating storyline, we know there's gonna be more about Harvey trust issues ... each episode leaves us lil white stones we have to follow like Little Thumb did to find his way... I can't wait to find what's at the end of the road for Harvey.

  4. I loved this episode. I was glad to see Katrina again (Amanda Schull is so beautiful) and as a humungous POI fan, I was absolutely giddy to see Amy Acker as Louis' sister.

What made this episode for me were the various great character interactions.

    Robert and Mike (I like their weird fighting relationship Also, working with him is providing Mike opportunities to grow as a lawyer and a person that even Robert comes to respect);

Mike and Jessica (what a putdown by the Queen. Don't ever get lippy with her)
Louis and Harvey (some growth for Louis too. YAY!!

Harvey and Donna (Her not being Harvey's secretary anymore is a blessing in disguise. We are seeing an even more no holds barred Donna who is laying down some hard truths. And I loved that Harvey ended up listening to her advice.

Also, Harvey's character continues to grow with each passing episode and it is great to see that.

This season is currently chugging along very well.

  5. I wasn't talking about hope in terms of a romantic relationship (Though it's pretty obvious I'm rooting for them) but hope about them getting somewhere other than this horrible place they were in. There's no one (other than Donna and Mike) that can keep up with him, so seeing this side of him completely destroyed was painful to watch. But yeah, as always, we can agree on, that we disagree about what they getting together would mean for the show.

And tbh, as a shipper? I wouldn't like them being together thrown at us as fan service. If the writers work on their relationship so it's satisfying, and beautiful to watch, I'm all in. But if they make them be together just to please the fans? I think a lot of fans will agree with me that that's the last thing we want.

In the end the one thing I want is seeing Donna happy.

  6. You and me both, I just want to see a healed (and happy) Harvey :)

  7. I feel the same way about everything you're pointing out. Thanks for taking the time to comment! :)

  8. I really love Donna, but I'm tired of this "she-is-a-so-perfect" crap. I'd like her to be in the wrong once in a while, too.

  9. I think that Intent was about that, she messed things up... I'd like to see more develop of her character but I, (And I underlined the I) don't feel she's perfect... IDK

As a fellow shipper: Isn't it technically better for her to be working for Louis instead of Harvey-that way if Donna and Harvey get involved than its not like she's sleeping with her boss.
Although, I do like them working together. I'm just saying.

Though its real good TV and so much drama and heart, its exhausting. And Gabriel (Harvey) is hitting it out of the park.

  12. I think He was more "happy" in this episode, let's say he's on the right way to happiness (if it includes some hot scenes for Harvey during his journey this would be even better lol )

  13. don't think Donna is perfect, she's fast on putting all the blame on Harvey, but she was the one who decided for herself...
They are stuck in their relashionship not only because of Harvey's "selfishness" ("self centred philosophy" is more appropriate), she reproches him for his lack of communication but during 12 years she never told him what she rly wanted, was he supposed to guess? She needs to question herself about her choices IMO

I was hung up on Harvey sleeping with Ester but Louis also did not keep to the agreement.

  15. There were some great moments in this episode. I loved the conversation between Jessica, Zane and Mike at the end, where Jessica backs MIke and Zane sheepishly thanks Mike but offers Jessica his :"condolences" for having Mie as an emloyee. Donna catching Louis trying to listen in on the Harvey's meeting with his sister was hilarious and I liked the fact that Harvey agreed to help Louis out with his sister's case, although Louis' paranoia is really over the top at times.

I ddn't start watching Suits from the beginning, so maybe I'd be a Darvey fan too, but as things stand, I really have a hard time seeing those Donna and Harvey as a couple. For starters, I don't see any kind of physical chemistry....certainly not on the level of what we saw between Harvey and Louis' sister. I think this also has to do with their working dynamics where Donna often takes on a maternal role....more like a nagging, meddling, sanctimonious tolr. Seriously, for once, it would be nice to see her in a conversations conversation involving Donna where she isn't either scolding someone, meddling in affairs that don't concern her or telling people what to do (none of which seem to be the job description for a secretary). 16. I agree if they got together it'd ruin things for me...I'm a huge fan of their working relationship, and I really don't see how these two can have both (personal & working) so I'd rather they just not get together...

  17. I never said or hinted that I wanted them to be working together again, as a matter of fact I rather have Donna working for someone else. I sincerely hope the show leaves her with him.

  18. But is she putting all the blame on Harvey? either way I feel like that will be addressed in mea culpa. (which is ep 7 I believe)
