Netflix Sense8 season 1 surprised me. The show has a slow start but after the Non-Blonde 'What’s up' coral scene, it acquires a whole new level of awesomeness. The first three episodes have to deal with the difficulties of presenting eight different protagonists and the show inevitably suffers a bit. After the classical descriptive beginning, there is so much more to watch.
What I liked about the first season is how the storylines are built in such an emotional way. You just fall in love with all these characters. Firstly I really loved the storyline of Lito. He is perfectly portrayed as a fragile and fearful actor, who is in love with the artist Hernando but he is also unable to live his love-story openly. I appreciated how he added sense of humour and complexity to the story itself and how the writers were able to shape stereotypes-free LGBT’s characters, also dealing with sexual explicit scenes. Then I also loved the transgender character Nomi. She introduced us inside the intricate mysteries of Whispers and she is perfectly paired with a lovely fiancée (they are literally adorable together). Morever she has great heart to show.
The strongest character of the show was doubtless Riley who is an Icelandic girl-now based in London with a troubled past. I really rooted for her character, and I truly enjoyed how she was stuck in the final episodes inside the memories of the tragedy she lived. It was really gut -wrenching to see her go through her daughter’s death over and over again. An incredibly nostalgic character that pairs perfectly with the other clusters as Sun,Kala and Wolfgang.
The strongest part of the show is the interaction between all the different clusters. When they are together, when they share their experiences and they connect, the show glooms. I also loved some unique moments as the coral Non-Blondes’ What’s up’s performance or the unexpected orgy. Sense8 dares to be unique, it’s not afraid to show blood, nudity or a coral childbirth.
After Matrix’s trilogy and Cloud Atlas, the Wachowski siblings have gained a certain recognition. Sense8 clearly confirms their talent in creating a wide and interesting emotional web of connections. The show is not perfect, if you want to find imperfections, you don’t have to dig in too much. But with an unique atmosphere, with perfectly shaped protagonists and a satisfactory ending (involving the meeting of all the characters on a boat landing to the horizon), we just raving for more.
Please Netflix, renew it!
Please Netflix, renew it!
What do you think of Sense8’s first season? Which character do you like the most?
What an awful abomination that was. It made me ashamed to be gay and to be represented like that. That's what it was all about - an unnecessarily loud message for acceptance. The "plot" might as well have been totally absent.
ReplyDeleteLoved it! A slow start but after "What's Going On?" which is one of my all time FAVORITE MOMENTS of the show followed closely by all the Sense8's working together as one mind in the finale.
ReplyDeleteApparently we should hear news VERY SOON in regards to S2, with all 5(?) stars in the red Netflix would be crazy not to pick it up.
Well directed and written, gorgeously shot and edited… From the opening sequence, you know you are watching something very special. Sense8 has the human element that Matrix lacked. It feels alive, real and very, very exciting and suspenseful.
ReplyDeleteFrom the streets of Nairobi to the alleys of San Francisco through the smoggy Mexico City and the snowy mountains of Iceland, this show brings it all… and it is an immense trip. It made me almost remember how much is beautiful being part of the human race.
Netflix, I'm begging you. Renew it please!
p.s.:
Twenty-five years and my life is still
Trying to get that great big hill of hope
For a destination
I realized quickly when I knew I should
That the world was made up of this brotherhood of man
For whatever that means

I absolutely loved the show, I thought it was such a masterpiece. I fell in love with it from the start and it just got better as it went on. I loved all the characters but from favourite to least favourite they'd go: Wolfgang>Lito=Riley=Will=Sun>Kala>Nomi>Capheus.
ReplyDeleteI loved the music and the action scenes were fantastic as well. All the emotion in the show is what I loved most. It had some really beautiful locations as well. I hope to still be watching this show years from now!
Character preference-Lito>Wolfgang>Will>Sun>Riley>Nomi>Capheus>Kala.
ReplyDeleteNetflix-Give us Season 2 NOW!!
An amazing season, I love all the main characters, its the first time I love all the characters in a show !!!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved the first season and all the characters were great. I liked all their separate storylines, and it will be a bit difficult to do something surprising with that in season 2. I´m sure they will think of something else good and I can´t wait to see more.
ReplyDeleteIt is very difficult to rank the characters but here goes: Wolfgang - Nomi - Sun - Riley - Will - Capheus - Kala - Lito. Guess I´m the only one that puts Lito last....
I really liked the show, I think it's the kind of show that will get better as it goes, since the first season was mostly setting things up. I loved all the sharing moments, every time members of the cluster interacted, especially in the last two episodes- I'd love if we get a S2 to have some full on group moments or just explore different dynamics.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the promo I thought I would have liked this show, but I completely adored it. I think it's quite phenomenal, it gave me lots of emotions and I loved all the characters, that never happened to me before. Their interactions are amazing, the music fits the moments perfectly, there are some of the best fight scenes I've ever seen and the locations are great.
ReplyDeleteCharacters rank:
Wolfgang>Lito>Nomi>Sun>Riley>Will>Kala>Capheus
Totally agree
ReplyDeleteYeah, the really positive side... it's that the characters are totally AMAZING. you love them ALL. It's really rare in a Tv series.
ReplyDeleteI want MOOOOORE! I need more.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it. Why an abomination? I don't think that Lito, Hernando or Nomi are stereotypes, or bad characterized. They are strong and interesting characters, with a normal and ordinary life.
ReplyDeleteWe all want more.
ReplyDeleteLOL mate you do realize that one of the wachowskis is transgender and is now a woman right you should probably switch brothers to siblings its a wee bit offensive lol
ReplyDeletecould have used a lil bit whispers and his backstory
ReplyDeleteYes, it's never happen to me ... the actors are great and the storyline too. Can't wait to know is netflix reniew it. But I hope so!!!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I hear that song now I think of Sense8!
ReplyDeleteSun>Nomi>Lito>Capheus>Riley>Kala>Wolfgang>Will
ReplyDeletei suppose that will happen in season 2
ReplyDeleteI grade my favorites in two tiers.
ReplyDeleteTop Tier favorites: Sun, Wolfgang, Capheus, Riley and Will.
Second Tier: Kala, Nomi and Lito.
But overall, I really enjoyed all the different character story lines as they progressed throughout the season.
Yeah, I think season 2 will be all about the main story
ReplyDeletemy bad. It wasn't meant to be offensive at all
