A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.
GIRL MEETS WORLD, "Girl Meets Mr. Squirrels Goes to Washington", July 10, 2015, Actors: Will Friedle, J.B. Gaynor, The Scene: The reveal that Tommy came back to help Eric
Klutzy Girl: The reveal that Tommy came back to help Eric caught me off guard because I don't think this was one return anybody was expecting. Their reunion made me emotional, especially since this storyline was one of my favorites on Boy Meets World.
SUITS, "No Refills", July 8, 2015, Actors: Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, John Pyper-Ferguson, The Scene: Harvey's panic attack
Justyna K: One of the things I like the most about the show is the friendship between Mike and Harvey. So I'm glad Mike finally knows about Harvey's panic attacks. In this scene, Specter feels very vulnerable and is barely keeping things together when Jack comes to continue their fight, threatening to take away all of Harvey's financial privileges. Mike quickly joins the argument with him and Harvey manages to hold his own against his adversary. In the end Jack leaves and Mike helps Harvey get better and offers his help. It's really great to see these two having each other's backs. There are so many conflicts on this show that it's especially important to have real friendship moments like that. Also add to this, Gabriel Macht's powerful performance and here's one of my choices for scene of the week.
TEEN WOLF, "Dreamcatchers", July 6, 2015, Actors: Shelley Hennig, Arden Cho and more, The Scenes: Kira fights Tracy & Malia fights Tracy
Justyna K: Once again, a great episode this week, with all the female characters having a chance to shine. There were many scenes I enjoyed, like the Sheriff getting ready for his date, Stiles' confronting Donovan or the kanima reveal but it's the final minutes with Kira and Malia's fights against Tracy that really stole the show for me. In the end, I decided to go with Malia stopping Tracy and proving she's truly not like her parents, choosing to save Tracy, not kill her. It was certainly a significant moment for Malia, in the premiere she chose her name to be Tate, not Hale and this week she managed to win the fight with kanima and show who she really is, not a killer but a part of the pack. She's been a part of the team for a while now but it was probably the first time she had a chance to prove her control and made her own choice. I loved that little confirmation and it would have been enough to choose this scene but I also chose it over Kira's brilliant fight because it's the first moment when one of the pack meets the Dread Doctors. It must have been a horrifying experience for Malia but I'm glad it means that everyone will start to be aware of the danger around them. Kudos for another great episode, can't wait for next one!
A Dahne: Kira embraces her full kitsune. Kira as a character has been largely shafted with the girlfriend role on Teen Wolf so it was fantastic to see her finally take full control of her own powers to help defeat Tracy. When she cut off Tracy's tail, I cheered. Not because she was winning, but because she had finally become the kick butt warrior I knew she could be all along. In fact, everything Kira was great in this episode.
Jamie Coudeville: Malia spares Tracy. Malia has come a long way from when we first met her. This episode proves that. In the past she would've just taken out the threat but now, when Scott asked her to save Tracy, she did. My heart broke for her when those doctors killed Tracy anyway.

Honorable mentions:
ReplyDeleteTeen Wolf - Stiles, Scott and Sheriff at the police station & Kira fights Tracy!
Dark Matter - The final reveal
Killjoys - Killjoys and the surrogates team up and fight their way out of the fortress
And I don't really watch Hannibal but I've seen some scenes this week and it was all pretty impressively made.
UnReal - Contestant jumps off the roof
ReplyDeleteRectify: Daniel talks to the woman in the park about reading under the big blue sky. Daniel always ends up making me cry in most Rectify episodes but really this one got to me, all the things he has been denied for nearly 20 years is heartbreaking. Once again Aden Young shows just how wonderful he is in the role.
ReplyDeleteMr Robot: Elliot's montage of how a normal life could be, very funny and ends with his boss asking did he have a Starbucks? Such an un-Elliot thing to drink.
Humans: Niska taking out all the human fighters in the underground fight club and then espacing. Niska as a future leader of some kind of synth resistance would be amazing.
Other:
ReplyDeleteDark Matter - Ending
Penny Dreadful - Ummm, the entire episode?
Scream - Rachel on the phone with the killer at the end
Honourable mentions:
Suits - Harvey's panic attack
Dominion - Michael fight scene
The Last Ship and Killjoys had great episodes as well I just can't single out any scenes.
The Teen Wolf and Girl Meets World scenes mentioned.
ReplyDeleteDominion: Michael joining in on the fight against the 8 balls in the rain. The scene felt just like one in a movie. The fight was well choreographed, well directed, and the music was great too.
The season 2 premiere of this show was amazing. It has a new feel and more action than season 1 and it has made me love this show all the more.
Agree with Humans 100%
ReplyDeletePenny Dreadful: Vanessa overcomes Evelyn Poole and her Master. To me, it was one of the most beautiful seasons of the year and having to choose just one scene is very hard. I don't think I have enough words to describe my love for this show, its beautiful cast and its amazing showrunner.
ReplyDeleteHannibal:Hannibal sits in front of The Primavera, drawing Bedelia when Will walks up behind him. He takes a seat, and they share a smile. I remember watching The Silence of The Lambs when I was ten and my heart missing more than a beat after "Clarice? Your case file". I have waited for this for more than a year and I wasn't disappointed.
Suits: Jessica pointing out Harvey's paranoia that Mike would be the next one to leave him and the following panic attack. But also the scene between Harvey and her therapist when he lashes out his anger picturing Donna.
Scream: the reference to Scandal, HTGAWM and GOT! That was so cool
ReplyDeleteScream is finally a show where I understand all the references, I may not watch Scandal and GOT but at least I know what they are and what they're about! AHS, Hannibal and Bates Motel were mentioned too :)
ReplyDeleteI even understood when the said will graham :) I really like the TV talk in the show
ReplyDeleteSince I have been catching up on some shows:
ReplyDeleteAgents of Shield - skye's transformation was so amazing!!!! So well done. I love those slow-motion scenes that AoS does
Kira fights Tracy. She was just so awesome in that scene and to see her powers develop, this season of Teen Wolf is getting better and better and I can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteGMW. Tommy's surprise was very very unexpected. And a very touching moment, as i myself loved that SL in BMW. I loved Eric and Tommy's relationship.
ReplyDeleteOther. Wayward Pines- The Abbies are coming! The Abbies are coming!
7 Days in Hell - almost any scene, but let's say "the day with the 'sex on the court' delays"
ReplyDeleteHa, you got to the good part of Shield! The back half of S2 is pretty amazing
ReplyDeletei'm so excited someone mentioned Tommie's return on GMW. I watch the show because i grew up on Boy Meets World so it's been fun catching up with everyone, but when when Eric muttered 'Tommie' i actually felt like my heart skipped a beat and my hand flew to my mouth...i got all teary eyed then felt like a complete nerd..lol glad i wasn't the only one:)
ReplyDeleteWhy are there so few nominees?
ReplyDeleteDominion:
ReplyDeleteMichael's fight scene.
Alex acting serious, grabbing the candle and using it to draw the smiley face on the
board when Gabriel is expecting some important message.
Michael and Wes Scene in the church where Michael scares the holy s*** out of Wes.
The smiley face scene (so rebellious) and Michael and Wes scene (I bet he won't threaten Michael again - hehe) are my honorable mentions after the fight one.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the rest of the shows?
ReplyDeleteIt's not really a scene but in ep. 4 of Humans I got the feeling that Laura could/will be the lawyer that will fight for synth's rights.
