DC Reviews Rizzoli and IslesRizzoli and Isles Episode 603-Deadly Harvest
Written by Ken Hanes
Directed by Mark Haber
Episode 603 was a great episode for me and it encompassed everything I enjoy about Rizzoli and Isles. We had a sinister crime, some wonderful interaction with the characters working together to solve the case. Some light hearted humour to ease the dark side of the episode and a lovely family mother daughter scenes between Jane and Angela Rizzoli.
I am going to highlight only some of the best scenes that I found in the episode, as due to unforeseen circumstances this review is a little shorter than normal.
The disturbing beginning scene reminds me of earlier season episodes, we have a young woman desperate to escape what we assume is captivity against her will and within minutes we see her hanging in the same house. Also worth a mention the creepy ornaments, once again the prop department has been on a mission.
The usual morning scene, we have come to expect from the last few episodes, in the kitchen between Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander). This week it isn't food they are discussing but arranging a night with Angela and watching a movie and in true Rizzoli and isles style they can’t agree. They do agree that Maura will cook and Jane will do the dishes. When Angela Rizzoli enters (Lorraine Bracco) she can’t make the movie night as she has plans, Jane try’s to find out what she been up to and Angela’s saying she is taking a French cooking class because she loves French toast, kind of makes you think she is lying .
The body and later a second victim are discovered in the Body farm (a place where they examine various stages of decay in a human body under certain conditions for medical science and teaching), which for Dr Maura Isles, according to Jane, is like Disneyland for Maura, I was thankful I wasn’t eating while watching this bit! Give me Mickey and Donald any day of the week.
We didn’t see Kent Drake this week but it was lovely to see Senior Criminologist Chang (Tina Huang) and her lovely presents. I agree the Lobster did look like Frankie (no offense to Jordan Bridges).
We learn the two victims were a couple and the woman seen earlier in the episode was kept by someone for about a year while the other victim was killed so the killer could play out his fantasy. We learn two women who fit the profile are missing and it’s a race to try and find what we suspect is the killer’s next victim. We get to see Maura using her expertise and giving them a psychological profile.
Jane, Frankie and Korsak (Bruce McGill) burst in just in time to save a young girl from the same fate as the first. In true psycho killer fashion he does not go quietly………. maybe we haven’t seen the last of him?
On a side note there are a few lovely scenes in the dirty robber between Angela and Jane. We are not shocked to learn Angela wasn't cooking but ice skating. Jane knows of her mother’s sporting ventures tend to lead to her getting injured... This time it was her ankle. Angela wants to do all the things she couldn't because she was too busy looking after her family. She regrets she never took time to do the things that Jane's father was interested in. Angela also informs Jane she has a new man in her life but we don’t meet him. Jane explains would have loved to go ice skating with her mum when she was younger. They agree to spend time doing things they enjoy together and Angela only wants Jane to be happy.
However my favourite scene is the end Jane and Maura back at Maura’s house, Jane has decided on a movie, Thelma and Louise the ultimate chick flick but Jane argues it has action.
Best lines from this scene
Maura: “we have something in common with Thelma and Louise”
Jane: “oh how so?”
Maura: “well we are both unique individuals and yet we have found a common connection”
And that is one of the reasons Rizzoli and Isles is so successful, though I hope Jan Nash doesn't have them driving off a cliff anytime soon.
Completely agree with your favorite scene. Those are the moments that I love from the show.
