ON EVE OF SEASON THREE PREMIERE, SUNDANCETV
RENEWS CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED,
PEABODY AWARD-WINNING ‘RECTIFY’ FOR FOURTH SEASON
NEW YORK – July 8, 2015 – On the eve of its season three premiere, SundanceTV announced today that the critically acclaimed and Peabody Award-winning series “Rectify” has been renewed for a fourth season. Season four of “Rectify” will premiere in 2016, with an exact episode count to be determined.
“Even in an increasingly crowded field of dramas on television, ‘Rectify’ has established itself as something special,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC and SundanceTV. “What Ray McKinnon, this incredible cast and everyone associated with the show have been able to achieve is remarkable, and we are so pleased to usher in this third season with an order for a fourth. ‘Rectify’ has had such a huge impact in establishing SundanceTV as a home for high-quality, intelligent drama. We are excited to continue this important partnership with Ray and the entire team.”
The highly anticipated third season of “Rectify” premieres Thursday, July 9th at 10:00pm ET/PT on SundanceTV. “Rectify” follows the life of Daniel Holden (Critics’ Choice Television Award nominee Aden Young), who returns to his small hometown in Georgia after serving 19 years on death row. Having spent his entire adult life waiting to die, Daniel must now try to find a way to cope with his past and forge a “normal” life with a future before him. His struggle affects everyone whom he comes in contact with, from his very fractured family, to those working to protect him and those working against him on the side of law and order, and those in his hometown.
Season three of the hour-long drama picks up where season two left off, on the afternoon of Daniel’s plea deal. Will the deal be accepted? Will Daniel be forced to leave town? And when the body of a missing person is discovered, law enforcement once again turns to him for answers. As Daniel's sister Amantha (Abigail Spencer) attempts to live her own life, she is given an opportunity at a local store that for the first time in a long time has nothing to do with her brother. Meanwhile, Tawney (Adelaide Clemens) and Ted Jr. (Clayne Crawford) struggle to see if their marriage has a future. Janet (J. Smith Cameron) and Ted Sr. (Bruce McKinnon), also under pressure from Daniel’s actions, will find that their marriage is put to the test as well.
In addition to being honored this year with the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, “Rectify” was cited by Entertainment Weekly as the #2 Television Show of 2014 and landed on over a dozen “Best of 2014” lists, including TIME, Los Angeles Times, Variety, Huffington Post, Vox, Grantland and more. Season three of “Rectify” has received overwhelmingly positive critical acclaim, including this small sampling of reactions to the series:
· “Television’s wisest, deepest drama.” -Jeff Jensen, Entertainment Weekly
· “Beautiful, brilliant, and unlike anything else on television.” -Libby Hill, Vulture
· “A master class in nuance.” -Brian Lowry, Variety
· “Terrific slow-burn drama.” -James Poniewozik, TIME
“Rectify” was created and written by Writers Guild Award-nominated Ray McKinnon (writer and director of the Oscar®-winning short film The Accountant; actor in “Deadwood,” “Sons of Anarchy”). It is executive produced by McKinnon, as well as Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein, the award-winning producers behind AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul.”
“Rectify” stars Aden Young (Killer Elite, The Tree) as Daniel Holden; Abigail Spencer (Cowboys and Aliens, “True Detective”) as Amantha Holden, Daniel’s younger sister who has devoted her life to securing his release; J. Smith-Cameron (“True Blood,” Margaret) as Janet Talbot, Daniel’s loving mother who has been living with the impending death of her son for 19 years; Luke Kirby (Take This Waltz, “Show Me A Hero”) as Jon Stern, Daniel’s lawyer; Clayne Crawford (A Walk to Remember, “24”) as Ted Talbot, Jr., Daniel’s stepbrother whom he had never previously met; Adelaide Clemens (Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, The Great Gatsby) as Tawney Talbot, Ted’s kind-hearted wife; Bruce McKinnon (Lawless, “The Wronged Man”) as Daniel’s stepfather Ted Sr.; and Jake Austin Walker (The Chaperone) as Daniel’s half-brother Jared.

I just screamed! I'm so excited for S3 to start tomorrow and knowing it has another season brings me much joy and relief. Rectify has a small audience but those who watch it know the truth - Aden Young is giving the best performance on TV. I can't wait to see what is in store for the oddly captivating Daniel Holden both this season and next.
ReplyDeleteFirst 2 seasons are on Netflix, people need to watch it.
I tried to watch it a while back but I just couldn't really get into it, but then again after giving up I ended up watching something with some mindless action so it was probably just my mood that day. I'll have to give it another shot eventually.
ReplyDeleteI'm missing so much TV this summer, I had no idea it was premiering tonight; I can't wait for RL to settle down, so I can go back to watching TV all day long.
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely a unique kind of show, its very slow burning - Season One's 6 episodes take place over the first 6 days of Daniel's release. But the pace did pick up a bit last season and we found out more about the original case. Mostly it is all about the performances and characters. I'm just always mesmerized by it. But yes you have to be in the right frame of mind for it.
ReplyDeleteI really need to start watching this show! Everyone who watches it has said that it has some of the best acting in all of television, which is a pretty big accomplishment in itself considering the show has flown under the radar for a while now. Definitely will add Rectify to my summer catch up list.
ReplyDeleteI think you will love it! Plus the first 2 seasons is only 16 eps so not a lot to catch up on.
ReplyDeleteI think I will since I'm a pretty big fan of slow burn shows (ex. The Americans, Leftovers, Penny Dreadful). I'm mostly just really anxious to see the character of Daniel Holden and his development throughout the series haha. If I have enough time, I should be fully caught up with the show by next week.
ReplyDeleteFantastic. I can't believe how much I have actually begun to like this show. It wasn't what I
ReplyDeleteThat it, its time to move it from On hold to the Watch list.
ReplyDeleteOh god, that's amazing news. Without a doubt, the best show on tv right now. So glad to hear that it's future is secure for now.
ReplyDeleteI just hope we'll get more than six episodes next year...
Yup, Rectify is an amazing show with brilliant performances, especially from Aiden Young and Abigail Spencer.
ReplyDeleteI was a bit uncomfortable with the slow pace at the start, and I think Rectify would probably not survive in broadcast. But after a while, I just watch it for the acting, take a step back, and appreciate the show as it is. It is so refreshing that with all the "LOST" style directing where every moment has to be full of twists in this television era, there is still a unique show like Rectify on air.
ReplyDeleteshit yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
ReplyDeleteSince I just found this wonderful show (and am now all caught up), I'm thrilled with this news!
