Thank you Pazzi, for saving Hannibal's live.

  2. That was probably the best episode of the season. Didn't expect that moment with Chiyo.

  5. Bryan Fuller Presents:

Murder on the Orient Express! Strangers on a Train! The Lady Gentleman Vanishes!

My favorite parts were the Will and Chiyoh parts, but I am not sure what I believe. How much of it was real or a dream? On one hand, Chiyoh could of been altered by her experience, on the other, unlike Murasaki, one interesting thing that was said about Chiyoh from Hannibal's perspective of her in the novel, was that she came off "severe" (so she may not be of peace like Murasaki, especially if Hannibal "trained" her in this version), which leads to the possibility that everything at Lithuania could of been staged for Will's benefit, since Hannibal knew where he was going...I loved the cinematography and I love the allusion back to the episode where Will was sleep walking (Elliott Buddish's angels paralleled Will's firefly man tableau).

The Jack and Hannibal confrontation scene was beautifully done, and I love how the shattered glass theme just keeps going, but I find it an unnecessary scene, because I can't buy that Jack Crawford wouldn't either kill him or catch him--this is something I find incredibly outlandish from his character in the novels. Why let Will do it???

Pazzi scene very similar to the films and Alana continued to serve as "Clarice", but Pazzi didn't come off as quite a creep and so it wasn't as enjoyable to watch him reenact his ancestors. (I wonder though if they are saving the following line for after episode 7, "I have given serious thought to eating your wife."??????

Fun to Alana and Mason continue on together!!! XD

And Bedelia and Hannibal too, seemed more intimate in this episode....

Nice narrative about day and night too! Ties in so nicely to reality and identity! Another interesting and mostly beautiful episode (Those shots with Jack and Bella's ashes unbelievable!). A bit of filler, except for getting Pazzi out of the way...onward we go!!!

    And lastly

  6. Couple of unexpected scenes tonight - Chiyo giving Will the heave ho and Jack trying to tenderize Hannibal before marinating him. Fuller really should have started the season out with a less leisurely pace ( though it was amazing, it was not a crowd pleaser I guess ) because it is really rolling well now. Loved the look on Alana's face when Hannibal extended his greetings.

  7. What's funny is the show doesn't even need to make Mason a pedo like in the books to be creepy.

  8. "Why let Will do it?" I think he feels he owes it to Will to save him because Jack has said it was his fault that Will was brought into consulting for the FBI and the effects it has had on Will lay at his feet. Maybe he thinks killing Hannibal will release Will ... that said I felt that Jack was going in for the kill with Hannibal with the hook just before he escaped and did not intend to save him for Will.

  9. "Jack trying to tenderize Hannibal before marinating him"
Ha! Interesting way to look at it! :)

"Loved the look on Alana's face when Hannibal extended his greetings."

    Me too!

  10. Absolutely brilliant episode. Those final 10 minutes were some of the best of the show so far. Also, loved Mason Verger's "spitters are quitters" line.

  11. Ah, that makes good sense! I like it!!! :)

And you're also probably right about the hook. It just seemed like Jack was taking to long, almost like he was just waiting for Hannibal to escape. (But the promo for next week does say that Jack wants Will to do it and that's why I was lead to my conclusion)

  12. Right, the Bedelia/Hannibal scenes were different in their intimacy and touchy-feeliness.

  13. So true!!! (although they did let him torment that little Franklin orphan, not quite pedo, but almost) ^^

Even Gary Oldman freaked me out without the references, but Richard Armitage has been top notch!!! Very impressed considering they had to change actors on us!

  14. All the key elements are here. Cryptic dialogue. Artsy slow-mo shots of blood and snails. Hannibal being completely terrifying as he casually tells his victim how he'll hang and disembowel him. Epic bloody fight. Will being a creepy Hannibal act-a-like.

With the bonus that once Chiyoh had enough of Will's creepy conversations (where he deludes himself into believing that everyone will react like he did when influenced by Hannibal), she pushed him off the train like "I am so done with this shit." I love Will, but that was a pretty reasonable move under the circumstances.

Also, really satisfied by Pazzi's demise and Fortunato's performance. I miss Gomorra and I wish to have one of the few good Italian shows back.

My favorite scenes of the episode where Pazzi scenes. I have recently rewatched the movie "Hannibal" and it was a real pleasure to see how the story was shown in the series. Personally, right now i don't care much for Chiyo, but curiouse to see how this character will unveil in the future.

  16. I disagree, the pace was done well and set all the pieces and motivations in place. Whilst moving us to such a stellar turn of events that will lead to Hannibal's fall.

  17. Pretty sure he's one. In one of their therapy sessions in two, he tells Lecter he molested a bunch of little kids.

  18. You're thanking the man who was killed by Hannibal for being plot armour? Okay.

  19. I like Chiyoh, because she seems to have the best of both elements: Murasaki's aesthetic, poetic-teacher dialogue, and graceful stature, but also she has moments of severity or violence (although her violence has been elegant in comparison to everyone else's), and her belief system and/or where she truly stands morally is a bit of a mystery, where Murasaki I know whole heartedly was of peace and did not preach or act on violence. I find myself intrigued not knowing where he lines are, and how Will Graham can't predict her.

But it was definitely fun to see a lot of Hannibal film scenes more point blank this season!

  20. "(where he deludes himself into believing that everyone will react like he did when influenced by Hannibal)"

Ha! Ya I was glad about that! I think it was smart of the writers to point out that we don't always come away the same from the same or similar experiences. Will Graham is so certain that he knows Hannibal and I think the truth is, he only knows part of him...

  21. Richard Armitage will be playing Dolarhyde/Red Dragon and I am certain will be amazing. But the switch in actors for Mason has been seamless.

  22. Oh Sorry. My Bad. Joe Anderson!!! ^^ I did this accidentally with Lizard and Esparaza last season! Just too excited when I type!

  23. Excellent point that Will deludes himself into thinking everyone will react as he did - had not occurred to me and you are so right. But I thought Chiyoh pushed him off( wasn't certain at first if we were still in a dream sequence,ha !) the train because she thought he would interfere with her own agenda - which is yet to be revealed. Though she probably had had enough of the psycho-babble too as you said.

  24. Always love your enthusiasm !

  25. Somebody had to knock some sense into Will this season, Chiyoh just decided the best way to do it XD

I'm curious about her motifs, anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yep, Will's moral compass has been a bit wobbly so far this season.

  27. I'm not complaining about the pace, but I think it's very different from previous first two seasons. It's very much like pealing an orange, folding origami, or wrapping and/or unwrapping a present! It's been very layered and has used it's space-time placements ( and Stephen Hawking concepts) and color pallets to an unique visual advantage. The dialogues too are all very stream of conscience, poetic, and goes back to just a 'series of conversations'. It's at times bit slow and then faster, perhaps uneven, but it's incredible none the less. I'll be curious if the tone completely changes back to previous seasons once we hit episode 8!

  28. Totally forgot about that. But wasn't it more hinted at than outright said?

  29. He heavily, heavily, heavily, heavily implied it. Basically said it. Then he talked about the ramifications.
