  2. Despite being an early fan since the show began three years ago; and wanting Graceland to succeed (mostly because I like the actors), I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that this show has lost its way. The narratives of the multiple main characters all seem to be constructed to keep them in danger--not to progress their development as characters we care about.

The "Chester Cheeto" episode has most of the main characters making BAD decisions. Johnny letting Carlito live was the most horrendous decision I've seen on a TV show is a long, long time. Carlito is a psychopath and a sadist--and the longer he's alive, Johnny is in danger of being murdered--or worst! Charlie going on a dangerous mission while pregnant is just dumb, dumb, dumb. And the decisions that Mike & Paul made--trying to outmaneuver "Logan"--are also questionable and weak. Jakes has become the "Luther Stickle" [Ving Rhames from Mission Impossible] of Graceland: he's there for no real purpose other than to say a few "ethnically-cool" lines and demonstrate that the characters are living in a "gritty" world.

The only character who is having any real development is Paige/Serinda Swan, who I'm beginning to believe is the Female Lead in this supposed ensemble cast. Paige's story arc in the previous season focused on human trafficking, and parallels the real-life interest of Serinda Swan, who has raised money and awareness on the plight of victims of human trafficking. Holding over this storyline into the current season--by showing the emotional & mental after-effects on Paige, because of her sense of guilt in not having saved one kidnapped victim--is powerful and affords Paige/Swan character development denied the other actors. However, this may be ending: with the "Chester Cheeto" episode, Paige appears to be starting an emotional rebound.

Bottom line: the gritty, thrill-for-thrill sake aspects of Graceland are not working for me, and the lack of character development among the Main Players, is undermining any emotional investment in the show as its third season begins.

  3. I agree 500 percent. Got so bored with the premiere I haven't even bothered with this season! Second half of season 2 was a real screw up, and now they're just rehashing the same stories again and again.
