Mama McCall is the real winner in this bizarre, badly paced episode.
ReplyDeleteYeah the pacing in this was a little all over the place.
ReplyDeleteI actually picked a scene earlier on when Stiles and Co find Kira attempting to plug the wound on Lydia. I think it says a lot that Scott wants to quickly press on and find Tracy and Stiles is either unwilling to go on or more than likely unwilling to let Lydia be 'alone'. Not that she is really alone but well.. Stiles isnt there to help her out.
Is that club the same club from the 2nd season?
I think the show is definetly placing the characters into interesting situations this season. Scott seems more driven , Stiles seems less gung ho and more willing to stop and think about things, Kira seems to be taking a dark turn. She was fully prepared to kill Scorpion boy until stopped. I just hope they arnt planning on doing a Dark Kira storyline, its probably too soon after the Nogitsune storyline.
Also I think Parrish is gonna get used by the Doctors as their 'ultimate achievement'
The pacing was all over the place. It seemed like scenes shot days apart from each other and they just edited them together.
ReplyDeleteMama McCall is always a winner but I'm torn between that and Stiles's concern for Lydia. It was nice to be reminded that they are friends still when they don't have a lot of screen time together. I always enjoyed their friendship (platonic) I liked the slo-mo editing of that entire scene really.
While the pacing was off, I do love the direction of these episodes. The directors do an outstanding job at that.
impossible....mama mccall pep talk, parrish in the final nemeton scene. those are my picks (luckily I didn't make a promise this summer to only pick one.)
ReplyDeletedo you do reviews for teen wolf? i am mighty curious about your thought. (if you left them on the what did u think page...i got dragged away from the computer to go to work, but i will read when i get home so if yoour thoughts are there no need to answer i'll see them.) this was an ep i couldn't fully digest the first time through. i didn't have any real pacing problems....other than the stuff i consider staples of the show. (i.e. the breaks for "romance"
ReplyDeleteI do the recaps that include my review throughout and I sum up my thoughts in the last paragraph of the recap right before the grade and episode awards. I am hoping to have it up on Thursday like usual but it might be slightly delayed due to the Character Cup. I think this season has a trend of being slow in the middle and frentic in the beginning and end. In this episode not so much the beginning either. basically i think this is the worst episode yet this season but it's still better than the mess that was season 4.
ReplyDeleteNo scenes really jumped out at me actually, not like last week.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't my favorite either. Too much rave not enough story.
ReplyDeleteAlso... Donovan. Dahne... its not like you not to use the character name! :) Donovan = Psycho. We need to be able to differentiate all the different Psycho's on this show :)
ReplyDeleteI think this is also the first time they have shown the Gay club and not had Danny there!
ReplyDeleteLets hope not. Having said that I dont think Scott and Kira have the same level of Chemistry as Scott and Alison did. Its not the actors fault.. its just not there.
ReplyDeleteActually I don't use character names a lot. Mama McCall is always that, never Melissa. Sheriff is always Sheriff. Chris Argent will always just be Argent to me. Brett remains now and forever will be Tall Prep Blond (TPB), Mr. McCall is always DoucheDad (I don't even remember his name to be honest since he had 2 of them), Derek's first love kill is SPN Krissy, HistoryDad remains Kira's dad, and if Lydia's mom had not changed jobs I would still refer to her as ScienceMom. As of yet, I haven't decided on her name. Same with Hot Doc, aka Liam's stepdad. Last season there were so many new blond freshmen that they all got nicknames to decipher which was which until they died off. So long story long, if a character feels disposable they get stuck with whatever I call them first. Rarely we can't shake a couple of characters who are bound to stay forever on my screen whether I want them to or not and they get unnamed like Liam "Super Special Snowflake" Dunbar and Mason "Danny 2.0" I forget his last name.
ReplyDeleteI miss Danny.
ReplyDeletehence my use of the word "impossible" :-) Every time I think *that was my favorite scene* I read the next one and that was it and I read the next one....etc.
ReplyDeleteIt's not your poll it's my brain.
that is an awesome list...and you know what... I always know who you're talking about. :-D
ReplyDeleteOh don't get me started on the rave, it was naive of me to think that Teen Wolf would stop having dumb parties now that it's the Pack's senior year.
ReplyDeleteLOL totally!
ReplyDeleteI hated the slo-mo bit. It felt like the director want to try something he thought would look cool. It kicked me out of the story and straight into wondering what was the point.. The other scene that did that was the replay of the end of the last scene of last weeks episode. My first thought was...did the episode run short and the dropped it in there as filler?
ReplyDeleteI do think perhaps Donovan - or what the character is going to do - would be more powerful if it was another innocent.
I've seen your other recaps but for some reason not the Teen Wolf ones. I will keep an eye out.
ReplyDeleteIm a Stalker eh? :)
ReplyDeleteNO ONE beats Scott and Allison!!! NO ONE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI miss "Stalker" LOL
ReplyDeleteSorry. I totally did not think of that. This has me laughing so hard. Seriously slap happy hard. Nope, I meant Allison's Stalker Boy of the Camera Kanima fame. Actually I should have called him Camera Kanima Master just because that's so much fun to say. I will stop now. I've had too little sleep.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad because my brain is curently not functioning. I've hit sleepover slap happy stage and it's not pretty. Pretty soon I'm just going to be typing random letters and hoping something makes sense.
ReplyDeleteJeff Davis gets a one rave/dance/club scene per season pass from me. He used it early this time. Now I am completely done.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I just don't care to know a character better and so they're named and forgotten. Sometimes I love a character so much I can't bear to rename them. Sometimes I'm just lazy. Take your pick.
ReplyDeletePsycho is too psycho for me. Plus I thought he was another 30-year high school student so he was originally PsychoKid but then I had to shorten it. If he hadn't randomly popped up in the premiere to spout off like that I'd probably be more interested in him now but since he did, he's going to die sooner rather than later. He's the Crazy Teen Assassin of this season so I don't even bother with him. I see Theo as more staying power.
ReplyDeleteI actually did not like the slo-mo much either. All the mouths moving with no sound. It felt melodramatic and still less dramatic if that makes any sense. I may end up liking it more the third time (that's where I am in teh recap). I might not. Mostly though its placement took me out of the moment.
I loved the scene of Kira kinda losing control of herself and Scott stopping her and Lydia asking Parrish to fight. It kinda reminds me when Allison started out :)
ReplyDeleteThat was the problem. No one beat them for constantly sneaking off all the time and getting themselves in trouble. Plus all the late night booty calls.
ReplyDeleteI just think Kira hasn't been as well developed as Allison was as a character.
ReplyDeleteCool. They usually come out on Thursdays or you can click the Teen Wolf button under the title and it will take you to all articles on Teen Wolf.
ReplyDeleteI'm so thrilled Lydia is finally getting some self-defense classes. It is way overdue.
ReplyDeleteI miss Stalker too. It had the best improvement from a sucky pilot I have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteWow you're strong, for me no pass.
ReplyDelete"Camera Kanima" LOL, i like that
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Although lets be honest here, nobody beats the booty call down in the basement/boiler room of a MENTAL HOSPITAL. THat wont be beaten again on Teenwolf.
ReplyDeleteTHats okay. I barely remember Matt now. He had some sarcasm thing going on and he almost drowned in a pool because the 90's FLASH wasnt helpful in the swim team enough?
ReplyDeleteI was temtpted to say Dawson's Dad, but frankly Id much prefer to remember the actor who played the FLASH on that show.
In barely 5 episodes she will be flipping people and shooting arrows from bows into trees!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it looks like the show is taking a page from Naruto where Kurama, the spirit imprisoned inside Naruto, assumes control by essentially covering the host body in flames as a manifestation of itself.
ReplyDeleteIts hard to do. cast your mind back over previous tv shows. How well are characters introduced in later seasons really fleshed out? Its often now the show fault. They grab a big bag of new characters, throw them into the action and then see which one sticks. Often its not the one they expect and its normally some small thing viewers click with.
ReplyDeleteFor me a big case in point of this is Agents of Shield. A show I dont really watch all that often. However someone, somewhere else pointed out just how many characters were introduced in season 1 and 2 and how many stuck around. Its hard to get attached to any character in my opinion that does not get a part in the main title credits (speaking of which, how long is Lydia gonna keep the one she had from season 1.. everyone elses has changed!).
Ive no issue with tv shows introducing new characters, but just throwing them into the plot and expecting people to like them juse because rarely works.
He could be a Phoenix or an Efreet (a middle eastern Fire spirit)
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else think as soon as Malia told Stiles she was leaving and she would meet up with him later that something was gonna happen to Stiles? I actually just assumed Theo was gonna run Stiles off the road. Didnt expect Donovan to use the old flukeworm in the hand trick on Stiles though.
ReplyDeleteThat's Teen Wolf for you. If you don't get a straight up Matrix-style download of ninja skills (looking at you Kira), then I firmly believe the nematon speeds up any kind of training that can be done.
ReplyDeleteI believe Jeff Davis said Parrish was not a phoenix, but he could be just trying to get people off track.
ReplyDeleteSee I never saw 90's Flash so he's always Dawson's dad to me. Someday I am going to visit 90's Flash to pop that connection outof my head.
ReplyDeleteYep, absolutely and those shady maintenance/repair/whatever people at the school got serious side eye from me as well. I would be just as happy to never see flukeworm bite again though. That was just nasty. Same goes for scorpion bite if truth be told.
ReplyDeleteDidnt Lydia mention that they cant even employ night security at the school anymore because of all the crap thats happened there? Im surprised they can actually recruit teachers.
ReplyDeleteAt point someone last year had uploaded them all to Youtube. We had Mark Hamill who I hadnt seen for years playing 'the Trickster' (I believe he has been in the new Flash also). Basically the Trickster being as much as Mark Hamill can channel the Joker without using the name Joker. It was the same voice
ReplyDeleteAmanda Pays.. again on the new FLASH.
I remember Desert from Boy Meets World LOL
ReplyDeleteOoh that'd be different, he doesn't shift like a Were so that could be interesting.
ReplyDeleteIs "Naruto" a cartoon like "Pokemon" and "Digimon"?
ReplyDeleteYep. Pretty much. :D

Stiles did say he would lose his mind if Lydia died.
ReplyDeleteHuh, okay
ReplyDeleteI went with the battle at the Sinema, I love when Kira turns full-Kitsune and I hope this means they will give her more space. Melissa's speech was great, the bond she has with her son is unique. Lydia is finally learning how to fight, yayyyyy! XD WTF Donovan?!?!? You can't just attack Stiles like that! T.T
ReplyDeleteI am back into Teen Wolf this season after slowly loosing interest. I love the Dred Doctors and the skewed timelines they are on this season. It's great that Lydia gets more of a story line and Stiles is my fav character - funny since this is a supernatural show and I like the human the best :) Well, in promos they have showed that the pack is responsible for what happened because of what they did to the Nemeton. My theory on Parrish is that he is some sort of a "Hellhound" per se. He is the guardian of the Nemeton and bearer of death.- hence the connection to Lydia. Anyways, I am liking this season a bit more than previous one. Can't wait for next episode!
ReplyDeleteWell nor does Kira. The Whole Kitsune thing brings a new element to Teen Wolf. Its a spirit essentially inside a human vessel as opposed to a .. well for lack of a better term 'disease' which turns the person into a were creature.
ReplyDeleteThe Efreet in this case (if that is indeed what Parrish is) is more similar to the Kitsune in that its a spirit inside a person.
Im okay with it sorta by now. Arrow did it with Laurel Lance and her training. She went from no fighting ability to dependant on plot fighting ability fairly quickly.
ReplyDeleteNow that they have already renewed the Show for a Season 6 20 episode run, im wondering what theme matter they could get into there. Normally they drop big clues the season before.
ReplyDeleteThats true. Although really he already more or less lost it in season 3B with the Nogitsune. (My fave villain and storyline of all Teenwolf)
ReplyDeleteWhen do you think they are gonna have the awkward Sheriff, Stiles, Mrs Martin, Lydia meal?
ReplyDeleteSorry
ReplyDeleteHmm interesting, oof you are definitely right and maybe the Spirit is taking over Parrish because he always looks dazed when he's at the Nememton or doing things very non-Parrish. Why do you think they brought the Nemeton back?
ReplyDeleteThat should be interesting, although I think it would be funnier with Malia and Parish tagging along... However I hope they don't drag their storyline because I want Sheriff with Mama McCall.
ReplyDeleteReally? i was against the Mrs Martin/ Sheriff thing at first but then I remember the Vampire Diaries and the kinda nasty way the actress died (drowning in the town pond). So Im kinda glad that she gets a nice storyline.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think it will make for some funny scenes ala Stiles and Lydia.
Never Apologise :)
ReplyDeleteThe same reason they keep bringing back Eichen House. Because the show should be retitlted 'Beacon Hills' in my view.
ReplyDeleteIm starting to view Beacon Hills like the Sunnydale of this show. Between Eichen House and the Nemeton and that high school , the town is just full of Gay Clubs and Supernatural stuff.
I watch TVD as well and I was expecting a big death for that episode, so when she died I was kind of relieved since she wasn't among my favorites. I don't want her to die here too, but the writers could give her a good storyline without the Sheriff.
ReplyDeleteNot really. Only 41 minutes in an episode so any screen time she gets has to be shared at least with 1-2 other characters. Only Stiles occasionally gets screen time by himself!
ReplyDeleteWell, she could help the team somehow, she could get screen time with Lydia (I'd love to see more mother-daughter moments) and someday I'd like to see all the parents meet up (once they're all up to speed).
ReplyDeleteDidnt Lydia's mother just flat out deny the Supernatural though? I dont know how much more evidence people need. Her daughter is a Banshee!
ReplyDeleteI think the two parents they have on the show with Melissa and Sheriff are enough. Hell there wasnt much for Mr Argent to do so we didnt see him as much. 2 seems to be about the limit the show can handle.
Maybe, but I dont think they will.
ReplyDeleteConfused LOL, but okay.
ReplyDeleteI started to see Beacon Hills as a Hellmouth back in Season 3A LOL, when they revealed Beacon Hills as a LITERAL Beacon for supernatural danger and creatures.
ReplyDeleteStiles sleeping in a library :)))))) The easiest thing for Dylan. He needs more scenes like this one :)) So he can have better acted scenes in the Maze runner series and his other movies :))
ReplyDelete....
Just kidding.
