NBC is moving Hannibal and Aquarius to Saturday nights, TVLine has confirmed.
The move, first reported on Twitter by Wall Street Journal media reporter Joe Flint, makes sense in the case of the recently cancelled Hannibal: The network essentially is burning off the remaining episodes of the Hannibal Lecter thriller’s third and final season, like it did with series like Smash.
But less than a month ago, the Charles Manson drama Aquarius was (surprisingly) renewed for a second season — a status that makes its weekend move puzzling.

ReplyDeletei mean i also think that it's rude but by canceling the show, NBC affectively said that in their minds, the producers have run out of chances to prove that they have an audience. they probably just dgaf about the show now that they've cancelled it

Wow what the heck do they think they want to put on instead? They should be supporting Aquarius since they renewed it, and so then what would of it hurt to keep Hannibal with it????

ReplyDeletei saw this coming for hannibal since it got cancelled but Aquarius? i know it got renewed because of the hight number it made online but come on you should support a show you decided to renew for a second season. And i don't think they're gonna cancel a renewal. i don't even know if it happened in the past. putting it on a saturday time slot is like a death penalty. Plus i find this very rude for both show's fans.

ReplyDeleteoh yeah for hannibal yes. networks care only about money that means ratings..they couldn't care less of the fans. With Aquarius is just very confusing. Moving a show you renewed is a strange move unless you're saying to me you don't have confidence in it and next season will be the last and stop. And i might agree with that...i think aquarius is that kind of show that shouldn't have a long running. But its really rude moving a show you renewed and that can still get audience. or maybe they think that the low ratings are due to the binge-watching thing they did of 4 weeks because lets face it if you can binge watch an entire season online instead of waiting every week you do it and of course then you don't watch it on tv.

ReplyDeleteNBC renewed Southland and then decided to drop it, so it could happen, but NBC renewed Aquarius fully aware of its struggling ratings (at 0.7), so my guess is they will have season air solely online, and maybe on Saturdays if the decide to air on it TV, which is incredibly weird.

ReplyDeleteI don't see how NBC screwed over Hannibal. They gave it a compatible lead-in for the first season, and renewed it despite mediocre ratings. They renewed it again after lower than average ratings for season 2. But hitting 0.5 is just pathetic and even can't make that work financially.

ReplyDeleteAquarius's renewal never made sense so maybe it won't see a second season after all.
Makes more sense for NBC to just cancel Aquarius and pay whatever penalty that is involved, than it does to produce 13 episodes of television to air on Saturday or at NBC.com

ReplyDeleteAt least they could've waited until after episode 307, there's an in-show time-jump happening after that episode so it would've been sorta suitable to have the Red Dragon Arch start on a new day.
But we knew already that NBC doesn't give a *Bleep* about Hannibal anymore, this just feels like a final kick when it's already down. Maybe I'm just extra grumpy because I'm really excited for the next episode.
Depends on the penalty, if it is too high it may be better business for them to keep Aquarius even as an online only series. But if the penalty is low, then it may be for the best.

ReplyDeleteWhat he's saying is based on facts though. Reality is it's getting really low ratings. A 0.4 even on CW could get a show cancelled unless the show is CBS produced or close to syndication.
ReplyDeleteThe thing with Southland was that it wasn't unrenewed because of low ratings. Instead, Silverman thought The Jay Leno Show was a huge hit and didn't need it. They messed up and TNT jumped at NBC's mistake.

If cable can renew a 0.1 on WGN America, NBC can make a 0.5 work. WGN doesn't do that well in cable fees.

Europe will watch it before USA and ratings will fall even more, but who cares? I heard that when they talk with potential buyers, ratings're the least important part right now.
