“The Shield” and “American Horror Story: Freak Show” star Michael Chiklis is moving into Fox’s “Gotham.”
Chiklis has landed the series regular role of Captain Nathaniel Barnes, Variety has learned. The news was first reported by TVLine.
Gotham’s producers explain, “Barnes lands on the Gotham City Police Department like a tornado, ripping out the dead wood of the city’s police force. He is a law-and-order zealot; unafraid of making enemies on either side of the law. For Gordon (Ben McKenzie) he is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon (Ben McKenzie), but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy.”

This is AWESOME casting news !!!
ReplyDeletehm wonder if he is the captain of MCU or homicide? is there some shake up
ReplyDeleteIt seem like he could replace Essen as captain of Homicide.......but I do want Gordon to move the ranks at some point
ReplyDeleteSo is he or is he not from the comics?
ReplyDeleteThat's season four or five stuff.
ReplyDeleteNope, he is a original character.
ReplyDeleteFor a second, I thought that was Captain Atom, but that's Nathaniel Adam. And thinking that makes me wonder who will be that first superhero to show up before Bruce hits puberty.
ReplyDeleteMajor Crime Unit they are supposely to take on criminals that are bigger and more dangerous than a normal criminal or basically batman villains
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh
ReplyDeleteI'm going with him being the Captain of Major Crimes then and Essen staying on as Captain of GPD..
Wow, so that's four new series regulars and, besides Jada Pinkett-Smith, nobody's been officially demoted or dropped, right?
ReplyDeleteWonder what this means for Essen.
It's the branch of the GCPD where invisible cops like Montoya and poor Crispus Allen get to work.
ReplyDeleteSo why would they say that he's destined to be Gordon's enemy?
ReplyDeleteBecause we know one day Detective James becomes Commissioner James Gordon and likely steals the position out from under Nathaniel Barnes.
ReplyDeleteAh okay
ReplyDeleteThey're still adding series regulars?
ReplyDeleteAnd Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan aka Tigress / Natalie Lyn as Silver St Cloud.
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome casting news but I am worried about all the regulars. I was however very inspired with the Comic Con interviews, everyone kept saying it would be much less procedural and the expression "the show that it should have been all along" was used at some point.
ReplyDeleteNice, it will be fun to see Chiklis playing a cop on the right side of the law after The Shield :)
ReplyDeleteSpot-on. They've been casting some great people, but the show was already having trouble servicing all the characters last year.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is they'll eventually have a falling out over the Batman issue. Gordon's usually by the book, but he throws it out the window where vigilantes are concerned, so long as they don't kill anybody. If Barnes is a little stricter in his definition of "law and order" I could see them disagreeing over that.
ReplyDeleteIt would have to be someone street-level. The Question maybe?
ReplyDeleteIf his character was Vic Sage then perhaps...why not since the series already has Renee Montoya and she could be his protege just like the comics.
