Audition reel

The death scene of Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) also had some wondering if the daughter-torching would-be king was really the end of his character. When Brienne swung Oathkeeper at Stannis, the camera cut away—not showing his death, and the rule of TV is if you don’t actually see a person’s dead body, they might come back (and sometimes, even if you do).

Talking to EW.com at Comic-Con on Friday, the episode’s director David Nutter confirmed that Stannis really is gone.

“From the very beginning, and [through] the script process, that was the intent – he’s dead,” Nutter said.

The director explained that actually showing the death would have felt “gratuitous.”

Nah, no grief. Just irritated that they a) 'killed' an interesting character, and b) didn't show the 'death' on screen. This IS Game of Thrones... So until I see his head separate from his body, he's not dead.

Poor David Nutter getting booed for the Red Wedding. TBH I'd boo him for Jon Snow, not the wedding.

Obviously there wouldn't be any reason for Brienne to "stop" and Melisandre is not here because she will bring back his (and the mad king's) heir.

  18. Damn, no casting info this year!

I guess it was expected being that Comic-Con is a couple weeks earlier than the last couple years and Game of Thrones is running a little slow production wise this year... Stilll... Ack!

Oh well, this will be fun to watch I'm sure. :)

And now we return you to our regularly scheduled Tinfoil Theories period f the production season...

Yeah, quite uneventful (for my first GoT SDCC panel) but quite fun, by the looks of things.

  22. I think it's pretty obvious, but OK. Stannis had nothing to live for, anyway. His daughter was burned alive, his wife committed suicide, his men were either dead or deserted. He knew it was all over
