Cool little teasers! Glad we got some footage!! Looking forward to this! (I feel like I have waited forever)
ReplyDeletehands down the show I'm most excited for this year, season 1 was brilliant
ReplyDeleteMe too :)
ReplyDeleteI love these little teasers. Sometimes they're better than actual promo's. Those old school thermoses in the last one have me feeling kind of nostalgic.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for S2, S1 was such a delight and the cast for this season is outstanding.
ReplyDeleteThis is hands down my most anticipated of the year. The Kirsten Dunst one was my favorite.
ReplyDeleteFun teasers!! Really great that we got a first look at Kirsten Dunst, Patrick Wilson, and Ted Danson's characters! I'm so excited for S2 to begin. "Ya, ok"
ReplyDeleteI just hope it's not a disappointment like s2 of True Detective :(
ReplyDeleteBoth my favorite characters were killed off in the 1st season. But I guess I'll still check this one out :\
ReplyDeleteSomehow I have more faith with Fargo than TD.
ReplyDeleteThey weren't really "killed off," they just died in the story, and that story is over now. Season 2 is a new story about different people.
ReplyDeleteBetter version of the last promo here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrQoTrR4ZdE
ReplyDeleteThanks Pierre I'll update
ReplyDeleteNot exactly. Although they advertise this as an anthology series, the truth is it all takes place in the same universe. season one connects to the film with Oliver Platt's character finding Steve Buccemi's character's money and season two is a pseudo prequel as Patrick Wilson is playing the younger version on Keith Carradine's character Lou, Molly's father. he is main character this season and they are going to tell the story he began to tell his granddaughter in the season 1 finale.
ReplyDeleteI think TD is getting better as it goes, but I do think, because Fargo is all set in the same universe and ultimately is going to keep its looks and feel, there's a better chance to get more of what we like and expect from it. Even looking at Kirsten Dunst in these clips, I'm already reminded of Martin Freeman/nygard. So I think that's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteWow, I think this the first time in forever I'm actually excited to Kristen Dunst in something!
ReplyDeleteLoved the trailer and promos! What a little gem S1 was, can't wait for S2 to start!
ReplyDeleteI think Jefferey is only in one episode. :(
ReplyDelete"give me a chocolate glaze" haha I love the dark humor of Fargo.
ReplyDeleteI only found him to be listed in episode 2.1 in IMDb.
ReplyDeleteDon't take what IMDB says to heart. Users can edit that and I am pretty sure he is a major character this season.
ReplyDeleteUsually anthology series do not connect with things directly from season to season.
ReplyDelete"An anthology series is a radio or television series that presents a different story and a different set of characters in each episode or season. These usually have a different cast each week, but several series in the past, such as Four Star Playhouse, employed a permanent troupe of character actors who would appear in a different drama each week. Some anthology series, such as Studio One, began on radio and then expanded to television." - From Wiki
So American Horror Story and True Detective are truer examples. But this season of Fargo shares a character from last season and a story mentioned in passing, it's just a different era and we do not know the exact nature of said story.
Usually if something is set in the same universe it's considered a spin off, a one off, or spiritual sequel/prequel...
"In media, a spin-off is a radio program, television program, video game, film, or any narrative work, derived from one or more already existing works, that focuses, in particular, in more detail on one aspect of that original work (e.g. a particular topic, character, or event). A spin-off may be called a sidequel when it exists in the same chronological frame of time as its predecessor work....
n genre fiction, the term parallels the usage in television; it is usually meant to indicate a substantial change in narrative viewpoint and activity from that (previous) storyline based on the activities of the series' principal protagonist(s) and so is a shift to that action and overall narrative thread of some other protagonist(s), which now becomes the central or main thread (storyline) of the new sub-series. The new protagonist generally appears first as a minor or supporting character in the main story line within a given milieu, and it is very common for the previous protagonist to have a supporting or cameo role, at the least as a historical mention, in the new sub-series. Spin offs, sometimes generate their own spin-offs, leaving the new show only vaguely connected to the original series...." -From Wiki (Note the page also includes anthology series from any one episode as examples when there is some kind of connection)
So I think Fargo is a hybrid. I think you obviously don't need to watch season one at all for this story to be it's own thing, but I think it is more amusing if you had since we will learn of Lou's story and see Molly's mother...
American Horror Story has connections between it's stories, including two characters appearing in two different seasons, which is mainly weird because they use many of the same actors to play different characters in different seasons. I think it's a little early to say whether or not True Detective's stories are in the same universe, there doesn't seem to be anything that precludes the possibility, but I could be mistaken.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, this is a weird argument to have. I don't see why stories set in the same universe can't be anthologies, that seems nitpick-y, hair-split-y, some other -y.
FX really does have the best teasers, now that Justified has finished I'm glad Fargo is continuing the tradition.
ReplyDeleteI love their teasers, they are brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThese are great and I love the use of Dr. John. But I thought this was coming back in September? Now it's saying October.
ReplyDeleteWell thank you Fargo. I'll be listening to Dr. John for the rest of the evening.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to edit all of these together. I need to have them saved somewhere.
I don't remember reading Sept anywhere but I might have missed it. I've always seen Oct.
ReplyDeleteJUNE 22cd UPDATE:
ReplyDeleteOh the new teasers and the 2 minute promo are fantastic!! (Little Molly!!) One of my most anticipated shows for fall!!!
I am wondering out of all the characters in this, who was the one Lou talked about in season 1? Because they sounded like they were vicious and evil.
ReplyDeleteThat 2 min promo is everything. I can't wait. So many old favorites in this season, I just love it.
ReplyDeleteS1 was great, and with this awesome cast, really looking forward to this season
ReplyDeleteLooks great, am very much looking forrward to this.
