Dark Matter - Episode Five - Advance Preview: “Mortality”

10 Jul 2015

Each and every week Dark Matter enthralls us in its mystery and intrigue. This episode is no exception as there are several game changing revelations and many emotionally raw moments for the characters. A big theme this week is mortality as three of the characters fight for their lives. Space is a dangerous place and this episode exposes the crew to several perilous situations. Continue reading to find out what each of the characters will face this week.

One is stuck, yet again, on a mission with Three. They find themselves fighting to survive a deadly situation when they are separated from the rest of the crew. He makes several interesting decisions this week that will change the way fans view him. His relationship with at least two characters will never be the same after this episode.

Two goes on an interesting journey throughout this episode. It seems as though the events of last week have really affected her and her actions reflect that. She acts out in a way that will leave fans a bit shocked and sort of confused. It is shocking enough that one crew member doesn’t really know how to react to her after finding out. As the promos show, Two is attacked during a salvage mission and infected by a deadly virus. After she is quarantined she has to face her mortality and the very realistic possibility that she may not survive.

Three finds himself working with One and they’d both better be glad for their lesson in team work last week because to stay alive they will have to rely on each other. One of the secrets he has been keeping is revealed to the whole crew. Look for Three to react to a certain situation in a very interesting way. It changed my opinion of him just a bit after watching it.

Four spends most of the episode on guard duty. With Two quarantined and a danger to the crew he’s tasked to protect them…by any means necessary. He makes a proposal that stuns several of his crewmates.

Five shares some fun scenes with The Android and with her help she learns something very interesting about one of the objects she found with the dead boy. This object, and its purpose, brings a whole new element to the story that not even the most avid fans have speculated yet. Five has some very important decisions to make regarding Two and not much time to make those decisions as Two’s time starts to run out.

Six has a lot to deal with this week as half the crew is fighting for their lives. He gets to show off his piloting skills as he executes a dangerous rescue mission. When a particularly harsh remedy to a problem is proposed he fights valiantly to avoid it from happening.

The Android has several very human like moments as she tries her best to aid her crew through their various problems. As the crews information hub she is forced to deliver a lot of bad news, but that doesn't stop her from trying to find solutions. The information she discovers for Five sets up a storyline that has the potential to fundamentally alter things we thought we knew about the universe that Dark Matter lives in.

If you thought the reveal of Jace was a big cliffhanger ending then you’ll be even more surprised this week. The ending of this episode gives us another clue to who these characters may be and it is sure to launch a whole new round of speculation. This will be game changing for one of the characters and possibly the whole crew.

From here on out Lindsey and I will be splitting up the reviewing of this show. I will be reviewing this episode and Lindsey will rejoin you next week. Tune in to Dark Matter on SyFy at 10pm on Friday then return to SpoilerTV for my review of this episode.

We’ve come to that point in this preview where you have the opportunity to earn some extra spoilers by playing a little game of quote guessing. If you can guess the speakers and the recipients correctly you can win two character specific spoilers. Getting just the speakers right will earn you one spoiler and same for getting just the recipients right. Since this is Comic Con weekend coming up I added an extra 6th quote for you to decipher. To give everyone a chance to play I’ll hold a special round of this game tomorrow night at around 8pm EST in the comments section. I’ll post another set of six quotes and the same rules as above will apply. Who will be the hero that will decipher these quotes and earn everyone more spoilers?

Quotes:
“I thought you had resolved to trust them…well, some of them anyway.”
“I’d rather have a dishonorable life.”
“That’s what I like about you…always looking on the bright side.”
“I don’t think any of us are going to be fine...even if we get through this.”
“Don’t be ridiculous, I have a very keen sense of direction.”
“I thought I could make things different, you know…take a different path. Now it looks like I might not get the chance.”

Hit the comments with your thoughts and speculations about what is going to happen in this episode.

  1. I can't wait!!

I only have one guess: the last quote is Two!

    ReplyDelete
  2. Who wants to be the first to take on the challenge of the quotes?

What are your thoughts on this episode? Are you excited? Do you think One, Two, and Three can survive this episode? They have already used up more lives than a cat, so is this it for one or more of them?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Take on all 6 quotes and see if you can win some extra spoilers.

  4. Some tough ones. Let's see:

I thought you had resolved to trust them…well, some of them anyway.” -Android to Two
“I’d rather have a dishonorable life.”- Four to Two
“That’s what I like about you…always looking on the bright side.” -Three to Android
“I don’t think any of us are going to be fine...even if we get through this.”- One to Six
“Don’t be ridiculous, I have a very keen sense of direction.” -Three to One
“I thought I could make things different, you know…take a different path. Now it looks like I might not get the chance.”-Two to Five

  5. Actually these were the easy ones compared to tomorrow's.

You got two of them completely right and on another you have the right characters but have them reversed. On another one you got the speaker right but not the recipient. Try again because you are on the right track.

  6. Well tomorrow seems like it will be a doozy then lol:

I thought you had resolved to trust them…well, some of them anyway.” -Android to Two
“I’d rather have a dishonorable life.”- Four to Two
“That’s what I like about you…always looking on the bright side.” -Three to Four
“I don’t think any of us are going to be fine...even if we get through this.”- Six to One
“Don’t be ridiculous, I have a very keen sense of direction.” -Three to One
“I thought I could make things different, you know…take a different path. Now it looks like I might not get the chance.”-One to Two

  7. Making them tricky is half the fun. Wouldn't be fun if they were easy. At least whomever wins the spoilers knows they have really earned them.

You changed one you had right before. You have one that is totally right and another still has the right characters but they are reversed. On another you got the recipient right but not the speaker and on another you have the speaker right but not the recipient. One other one has the speaker as the recipient but the speaker you list has nothing to do with the conversation.

Typing that confused me and I k ow the answers so the above may be of no help.

    ReplyDelete
  8. This show's not going to stop is it? Is One's decisions going to make us hate him? Are there tearjerker moments? Is the cliffhanger bigger than Corso, is the clone theory still very viable?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Quote 1: Android to Two, quote 2: Four, quote 3: Six to Five, quote 4: Two, quote 5: Three to One, quote 6: Two. Probably got them all wrong but hey at least i tried right?

    ReplyDelete
  10. This show is only getting more and more intense. One's decisions will change the way some people view him. There are indeed some emotional moments. In my opinion, this cliffhanger is right up there with the Jace one in the way it will cause a flood of new theories. I didn't see it coming even though their are breadcrumbs dropped throughout the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah that was kind of confusing:

I thought you had resolved to trust them…well, some of them anyway.”
    -Four to Two
“I’d rather have a dishonorable life.”- Four to Three
“That’s what I like about you…always looking on the bright side.” -Three
    to Android
“I don’t think any of us are going to be fine...even if we get through
    this.”- Six to Two
“Don’t be ridiculous, I have a very keen sense of direction.” -One to
    Three
“I thought I could make things different, you know…take a different path.
Now it looks like I might not get the chance.”-Two to One

    ReplyDelete
  12. It was a really good first try. You got one of them completely right and you got the speaker right on one of the ones you guessed just the speaker for. On two of them you got the speaker right, but not the recipient.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wow! Also in what way? A bad way or in a good way?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yeah, my above hints weren't helpful. Let me try to be better this time.

You have one with the right characters, but in reverse order.
One has the recipient as the speaker.
Another has the recipient right, but not the speaker.

Special hint for always playing: Two of these quotes have the same speaker, but to different people.

    ReplyDelete
  15. In regards to One? It depends on how the viewer views him going into the episode. Don't want to spoil to much, but I enjoyed watching him deal with things this week.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Quote 1: SIX to Two, quote 2: Four, quote 3: One to Five, quote 4: Two, quote 5: Three to One, quote 6: Two. Did i mess up the ones i got right?

    ReplyDelete
  17. So his morality is tested?

    ReplyDelete
  18. You still have one of them completely right and you still have one of the just speaker guesses right.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I wouldn't say that. Some people like him and others are iffy about him. The way he is viewed in the end will depend on the persons opinion of him going in.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Forgot to mention that you have the speaker right on one of these, but not the recipient.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Okay lets try this:
I thought you had resolved to trust them…well, some of them anyway.”
    -Android to Two

“I’d rather have a dishonorable life.”- Four to Two

“That’s what I like about you…always looking on the bright side.” -Three
    to Android

“I don’t think any of us are going to be fine...even if we get through
    this.”- One to Six

“Don’t be ridiculous, I have a very keen sense of direction.” -Three to
    One

“I thought I could make things different, you know…take a different path.
Now it looks like I might not get the chance.”-Two to Six

    ReplyDelete
  22. So how many wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Getting closer.

You still have one of them completely right.
You still have one with the right character, but in reverse.
You have Two speakers right, but not the recipients.

Hint: There was an extra hint hidden within the previous hint.

    ReplyDelete
  24. You have two of the speakers right and one of the recipients right.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Make one more go at it and then I'll hook everyone up with a scrambled list of recipients. Then all you have to do is match them up and guess the speaker correctly. Still worth 2 spoilers.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Okay here goes nothing:
I thought you had resolved to trust them…well, some of them anyway.”
    -Four to One

“I’d rather have a dishonorable life.”- Four to Two

“That’s what I like about you…always looking on the bright side.” -One
    to Three

“I don’t think any of us are going to be fine...even if we get through
    this.”- Six to One

“Don’t be ridiculous, I have a very keen sense of direction.” -Three to
    One

“I thought I could make things different, you know…take a different path.
Now it looks like I might not get the chance.”-Two to Five

    ReplyDelete
  27. Quote 1: Android, quote 2: Four, quote 3: about One, quote 4:Two, quote 5: Three to One, quote 6: Two

    ReplyDelete
  28. You have two completely right. Hint: the same two you had right in your first guess.
One of them still has the right characters, but in reverse order. Hint: they were in the wrong order on your first guess too.

Here is a list of all the recipients (not in correct order):
    One
    Two
    Four
    Four
    Five
    Five

    ReplyDelete
  29. You have 3 speakers right now and 1 recipient right still.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Man this is hard! LOL, so 2 wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I thought you had resolved to trust them…well, some of them anyway.”
    -Android to Five

“I’d rather have a dishonorable life.”- Two to Four

“That’s what I like about you…always looking on the bright side.” -Six to Four

“I don’t think any of us are going to be fine...even if we get through
    this.”- One to Two

“Don’t be ridiculous, I have a very keen sense of direction.” -Three to
    One

“I thought I could make things different, you know…take a different path.
Now it looks like I might not get the chance.”-Two to Five

    ReplyDelete
  32. You have all the recipients right and only 1 speaker wrong. So incredibly close. You have at least one spoiler, but if you can fix the one speaker you'll have two spoilers.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh boy lol:

I thought you had resolved to trust them…well, some of them anyway.”
    -Android to Five

“I’d rather have a dishonorable life.”- Two to Four

“That’s what I like about you…always looking on the bright side.” -Five to Four

“I don’t think any of us are going to be fine...even if we get through
    this.”- One to Two

“Don’t be ridiculous, I have a very keen sense of direction.” -Three to
    One

“I thought I could make things different, you know…take a different path.
Now it looks like I might not get the chance.”-Two to Five

    ReplyDelete
  34. Quote 1: Android to Two, quote 2: Four, quote 3: Three to Four, quote 4: Two, quote 5: Three to One, quote 6: Two to Five.

    ReplyDelete
  35. You switched the wrong one.
Hint: The one you switched you switched to the wrong speaker for that one but that speaker you used is the right one for the one you need to fix.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Okay let's try this one:

I thought you had resolved to trust them…well, some of them anyway.”
    -Android to Five

“I’d rather have a dishonorable life.”- Two to Four

“That’s what I like about you…always looking on the bright side.” -Six to Four

“I don’t think any of us are going to be fine...even if we get through

“Don’t be ridiculous, I have a very keen sense of direction.” -Three to

Now it looks like I might not get the chance.”-Two to Five

  37. It's being weird for some reason its saying my answer needed approval by Spoiler Tv. It's been posted for a few minutes now. This is the same answer I'm trying to enter it again.

Same Answer just posting again because of the delay:

I thought you had resolved to trust them…well, some of them anyway.”
    -Android to Five

“I’d rather have a dishonorable life.”- Two to Four

“That’s what I like about you…always looking on the bright side.” -Six to Four

“I don’t think any of us are going to be fine...even if we get through

    One

“I thought I could make things different, you know…take a different path.
Now it looks like I might not get the chance.”-Two to Five

    ReplyDelete
  38. That is weird about the needing approval bit. On the bright side you got them all right. Who would toy lime extra spoilers about?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah, my other answer is still pending seeking approval going on 12 minutes now. This one was super tough, I can't imagine what tomorrow will be. I'm going to try and make the game if I can. Could I have spoilers for The Android and Four please.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The Android discovers some critical information about the ship they are salvaging. It both helps the crew understand what is going on and crushes hope for Two. Bonus for not giving up: The comments made to her in the sneak peek seem to register with her as she has one particularly fun attempt at creating a very human jesture.

Four does not win any points with Five for a particularly brutal suggestion he makes in her company. While harsh he does seem to believe he has the crews best interest at hand. Four has a clash of beliefs with several characters this week. For a man that doesn't speak much he gets glared at a lot for his comments and suggestions.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think i'm just going to give up actually, i never win at this kind of stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  42. "Crushes hope" for Two in this this episode or for the rest of the season? I don't know what to do about Four, i mean Three's a D with an ick ten ways to Sunday but Four is like at another lever. I don't even know if i should root for him. He's the one that said that their pasts should be left in their pasts but he acts just like his past life says. Am i being too hard on him? I mean he's not out killing people but he's not fitting in with the crew and Three of ALL people actually DOES fit in.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Awesome review! Can't wait.Really enjoyed the Three/One buddy Team! Hope this episode won't be the last time we see them team up. They're really fun to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  44. tbh Three is one of my favourite characters, okay I like them all (except maybe One) but everyone is hating on him because he is a douche but I find his character really interesting. Can't wait for the episode and that cliffhanger tho :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Three is one moment that is particularly interesting in the way he reacts to something. You'll know what I'm talking about when you see it. I think some people will gain a bit of respect for him.

    ReplyDelete
  46. This show is really good at pairing up character and actor chemistry to bring interesting dynamics to the show. This episode is a very good companion to last week.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Don't give up. You've had some really good guesses. Someone has to challenge Vixx and you know that these characters really well.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Wow now that's a preview! That sounds amazing, I keep expecting for all the twists and shock moments to die down as we get into it but they just keep coming it seems. I'm even more excited for this episode now :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks, i'll try it one last time.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Like i said above Three fits in with the crew but Four doesn't feel like he fits in.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Challenge me? I thought the game was the challenge of figuring out the quotes?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Round 2:

“Do me a favor; don’t give up on the others.”
“If it was me I’d want to go while I still have my wits about me and in control.”
    “Quit being such a wimp.”
“I on the other hand possess the strength and the stamina to convey you with great ease. No dragging required.”
“Even if you are infected, maybe there is something we can do about it.”
“Those two can handle themselves. I’d be more worried about them attacking each other.”

Special bonus round. If you can get the speaker and the recipient right for the below quote this is worth 1 character specific spoiler, but you must get both sides right with no hints from me on this one.

“Well if I were a pirate and a smuggler…and apparently I am, this is the kinda place I might just pick to hide my loot.”

Same rules apply as in round 1.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm glad you enjoyed the preview. I try to include a little something for everyone. This was a very tricky episode to preview since there are a lot of big moments and I didn't want to spoil to much. Half the fun is being surprised by the things this show does. Get excited because this episode has a lot of information to deliver and in very fun and interesting ways.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I did warn last night that these were harder. Settle in for the fun.

This was a really good start.
You got 4 speakers right, but none of their recipients are right.
On one you got the speaker wrong, but the recipient right.

    The bonus was not right.

  56. Let's see:

  58. So you and Silverbow are in in it to win because you both posted quite simultaneously just then. You were like a half second faster, so you get the first hints.

You got 2 of them completely right.
You have one with the right recipient, but the wrong speaker.
Another has the right speaker, but the wrong recipient.

    Bonus is not right.

  59. Vixx is trying for another win, but you're off to a really strong start Silverbow.

    3 are completely right.
2 have the right speakers, but wrong recipients.

  60. I'm really bad at this but I'll give it a shot before bed:

“Do me a favor; don’t give up on the others.” Two to Six.
“If it was me I’d want to go while I still have my wits about me and in control.” Four to Five.
“Quit being such a wimp.” Three to One.
“I on the other hand possess the strength and the stamina to convey you with great ease. No dragging required.” Three to One.
“Even if you are infected, maybe there is something we can do about it.” Six to Two.

    “Quit being such a wimp.”-3 to 1.

  63. Welcome to the game! Really good first try.

    2 are completely right.
1 you have the right characters, but in reverse.
2 have the right speakers, but the wrong recipients.

    Bonus is not right.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Vixx had to bow out, so the pressure is on you Silverbow. Can you win the others some more spoilers? We have at least one newbie playing tonight, so you still have some competition.

    You have 2 completely right.

1 has the right recipient, but the wrong speaker.

Special hit since you always play: The recipient to one of the 7 is actually Everyone.

  65. I'll do my best!

“Do me a favor; don’t give up on the others.”-Two to One,
“If it was me I’d want to go while I still have my wits about me and in control.”-Six to One.
“Quit being such a wimp.”-Three to One.
“I on the other hand possess the strength and the stamina to convey you with great ease. No dragging required.”- The Android to Three.
“Even if you are infected, maybe there is something we can do about it.”-The Android to Two.
“Those two can handle themselves. I’d be more worried about them attacking each other.”-Two to Six.

Special bonus round. If you can get the speaker and the recipient right for the below quote this is worth 1 character specific spoiler, but you must get both sides right with no hints from me on this one.

“Well if I were a pirate and a smuggler…and apparently I am, this is the kinda place I might just pick to hide my loot.”-Three to Everyone.

  96. Trifecta for the win! That was a hell of a fight and you conquered it!

By the way, there were 2 right answers for the last quote as Two is in a scene with both Four and Six, so both were acceptable answers.

Which 3 characters would you like your spoilers for? Asking for multiple spoilers for one character is cool too. This is your prize after all.

  97. Oh man, the noise I just made was not human.

I love me some female characters, so I'll go for The Android, Two, and Five, please and thank you!

Then I can finally go to bed...

  98. Silverbow came through for the win. The recipients are:
    Five
    Two
    One
    Five
    Two
Four or Six as Two is in a scene with both of them

  99. Silverbow came through for the win, but do not give up playing. You got very close this time.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Oh okay. This was a nice and hard one.

    ReplyDelete
  101. You persevered through a hell of a trial and since I also love the females characters I'll give you some great spoilers for your hard work.

The Android intervenes multiple times on behalf of Two. She discovers news about the origins of the freighter that got Two into this whole mess. The information she delivers is very interesting information that may ultimately have some connection to the crew. She may have been willing to leave One and Three behind last week, but she fights awfully hard for her captain this week.

Two faces a lot of obstacles, but one of her biggest ones seems to be the battle she is struggling with on the inside. At least one thing she does seems like a desperate effort to get control of something in her life. Last week sent her into a spiral and it's not one she is able to pull out of before having to face down her mortality.

Five, as one of the quote interactions indicate, finally lets Two talk to her about the events of last week. It's a scene that speaks heavily to the bond they likely had before their memories were wiped. A lot of damage was done to their bond last week and I'm not sure one conversation can fix everything, but Five is not one to deny someone a dying desire to make peace.

I hope those were worth the fight.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I did issue a fair warning last night. Hopefully we'll get a screener for the next episode and I'll try and throw in at least a couple easy ones for its quote game.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Thanks to everyone that played the quote game. Congratulations to @Silverbow for the win tonight and to @Vixx for the round 1 win yesterday! It's a fun way to pass the time between episodes. I will not be around tomorrow night because I'm treating my mom to a night out, so I will not be live tweeting the episode tomorrow night. It also means that the detailed review will likely not go up until Saturday night, but I promise I'll make it worth your wait.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Oh yeah, these were well worth the fight. I absolutely love the relationship between The Android and Two, so the fact that she's fighting so hard for her is awesome news. JM pretty much said that he has a plan in regards to those two, so I guess we'll see...
Thanks for the spoilers! Hopefully we'll get to play again next week.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Thanks for always providing a fun time. I couldn't be fully invested today, but the last part I stumbled upon was a lot of fun. So thanks for the good time as always. Have fun with your mom!

    ReplyDelete
  106. I love the dynamic between all of the ladies as well. I hope we'll get a screener again next week because I enjoy this game. I'm always rooting for you guys to get them right.

  107. Lemke said at SDCC that they never actually say the word "zombie" but isn't that what they are?

    ReplyDelete
  108. Anthony is right, they never call them zombies. Technically I think that is what they look like, but the show will provide an explication for what they are.

One and Two do have a scene together after she gets infected. I can't say much beyond that.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Lemke, Melissa, Jodelle and Cross said they call them "infected individuals" LOL. "After" as in after right after she gets bit or after she's cured from the infection?

  112. I haven't read the advance preview yet but I don't think I could ever hate One he's my favorite and it's not like the others haven't made bad choices so I hope he saves them.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Not much about their pasts, but a big hint about one of them will close out the episode. It is a pretty big moment, in my opinion.
