Toks Olagundoye, who played the extraterrestrial Jackie Joyner-Kersee on ABC’s The Neighbors, is boarding the network’s Monday-night procedural in the series regular role of Hayley Vargas, TVLine has learned.
To be introduced in the two-part Season 8 premiere (kicking off Sept. 21), Hayley is described as a quick-witted, free-spirited, former Scotland Yard police officer who works as a security specialist and is not afraid to cross lines to get things done.

I'm still bummed we lost Gates :(
ReplyDeleteHopefully this character would make up for her absence.
I no longer watch Castle but I am happy for her, I liked her on The Neighbors. Still miss that show
ReplyDeleteMay i ask why you dropped castle and in which season?
ReplyDeleteAt the end of Season 6. Nothing particularly wrong with the show but the procedural aspect of it just became too much for me and it got too repetitive. I generally have trouble with overly procedural shows with no "edge" whatsoever. There are a few exceptions - I have been watching Bones for 10 seasons after all. I liked Castle in the early seasons not only because of the great dynamics of their relationship and because they were great characters individually (Especially Beckett, who I still really like), but because for once in the procedural genre I actually thought the cases were interesting and kept me guessing who did it and such. But after 6 years that part was just played out to me which means 80% of the episode was boring filler to me in most cases, and that doesn't really work well with me. I would love the occasional emotional episode (I remember loving the one in which Javi and Espo get stuck on a fire last year) but I felt those weren't enough for the amount of filler it would take to get there. I suppose I could just watch selected episodes but I am way too OCD with my TV shows to be able to do that, I either watch or I don't.
ReplyDeleteI dropped Castle during this season and i love this actress, so i wish her luck and success. But i would rather see her on show i am watching
ReplyDeleteYeah, me too.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I dropped it too this season.
ReplyDeleteGates hadn't really contributed anything once she approved of Caskett. I think this new character has potential but could be disastrous if written wrong. She is only the 2nd regular to ever be added to Castle in 7 seasons. So it could go badly or be brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThis, is a move in the right direction taking the sting away from loseing Gates, I absolutely love this casting news, I was such a big fan of neighbors, which I still think was cancelled to soon, wow, terrific news looking forward to the new season!!!!
ReplyDeleteI tried to watch Bones.I hated the pilot so much,i never went back to watch the 2nd episode.
ReplyDeleteI agree. This is a pretty risky move at this stage of the show.
ReplyDeleteI watch Bones mainly out of habit nowadays but I still enjoy it, mainly because I think it has two amazingly crafted lead characters who are always enjoyable.
ReplyDeletesame reason i watch Castle coz it is one of those rare shows where i don't hate/dislike any character whatsoever. That almost never happens with me.Only other exception is Hawaii Five-0.
ReplyDeleteI dislike Jerry on H50, I find him annoying (and I do like Jorge). Other than that I also like all characters. But to me that is relatively common on other shows.
ReplyDeleteOh,i adore him. That being said, both Jorge & Chi should've stayed as guest star instead of series regular.
ReplyDeleteReally? For some reason didn't think that was a character you would like ahah. Don't know why. Grover I don't mind; I don't think he was needed per se but I don't mind. He fills the void when Grace Park or Scott Caan are less present in some episodes and I tend to like the episodes they focus on him (really enjoyed the one about his friend being a murderer this year for instance). At the beginning it seemed they were trying to replace the bromance there so I wasn't thrilled but it evolved to its own thing so I appreciate it now. Then again, I didn't mind Lori Weston either at all and 95% of the fandom was furious with her.
ReplyDeleteI was among that 95% fandom.I'm so glad she left the show for good.Such a dull character, didn't fit with the show at all IMO.As for Grover,i agree with your POV.It really did seem they were trying to replace the bromance so i was completely against this character but it's all okay now.No one can come between MacDanno.PERIOD!
ReplyDeleteBut this is a risk I think is worth taking, in theory. Risks like what a certain blind item implies are reckless and show-killing. But a show Castle's age needs SOME risk. I think risk has to have a purpose. Risk for the sake of risk, for the sake of pure shock value and fan pissoffery, that's not a good risk. A new regular could be a risk that aims to enrich the show's story rather than undermine it.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope so.
ReplyDeleteI liked her on the Neighbors, and am looking forward to seeing her on the show.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mind Lori either though I was a little confused with her character. Although she was supposed to be keeping them "in line" and yet she basically became one of them and just went along with whatever was happening, regardless if it was ok or not.
ReplyDeleteI like Grover too. However, sometimes I feel like there are scenes that should be Steve and Danny and instead it's Steve and Grover. But he is a nice fill-in since Scott's taken a bit of a back seat lately.
meh, idk why most cast announcements for castle piss me off.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what story they would use to make up for Gates' absence... Hope its nice...
