Beauty and the Beast - The Most Dangerous Beast - Review

12 Jul 2015

This week's VinCat adventure was definitely a step up in quality from last week's installment.  Beauty and the Beast still has some issues to iron out this season, but things are looking up.  Let's review and discuss!  I'll be including some lyrics from Tove Lo's song "Got Love," which was included in the episode.

Codependent soulmates?  Yep, I was slightly irked when the coffee shop scene at the beginning of the episode had Catherine and Vincent bandying about plenty of terms that have come to define some of Season 3's problems.  For me, it's the constant harping on Vincent and Cat's supposed "codependency," coupled with Cat's use of the phrase "experimenting on innocents" (how do we know that every experiment was involuntary, or that everyone experimented on is "innocent"?)* that are getting a bit repetitive and troublesome.  I still don't think they're codependent.  To me, it seems that the problems in their relationship lately spring from Cat wanting to pursue leads on superhumans while Vincent wants to move on from having his life ruled by his beast side and its accompanying issues - that, and the way they never get to spend time together that isn't dominated by working on cases.  I don't really see the sense of trying to enforce rules on Vincent and Catherine staying apart for certain periods of time, especially since they just got engaged and haven't had a chance to enjoy that new turn in their relationship.  What they need is a second to breathe and indulge in their romance, not to put pressure on proving some weird point about their independence.  Ironically, Vincent and Catherine have retained their own fierce individuality within their coupledom to perfection, and that's why they were arguing in the first place.  Seriouslah, writers.  Let the co-dependent thing go.

However, in this episode, the way Catherine and Vincent hashed out their continuing debates was wonderfully sweet and pleasantly quirky without ever veering into the near-sitcomy humor of last week's episode.  Seeing Vincent able to use his love for Catherine to pull him back from a major beast-out, even though she wasn't there, was more than just a visual treat of lushly romantic flashbacks.  Did this break a co-dependent pattern for Cat and Vincent, since the couple don't need to be joined at the hip to succeed in their individual pursuits, or did it just prove the vital importance of their love to winning every battle they face?  To me, it's certainly the latter.

"When I breathe, then I breathe into you and I feel you right to the bone
And I give what you give, and we go even higher than we are strong
And the cracks in the walls covered up by the sheets we live underneath
All the nights we stay up, yeah we're stuck but we're more than free..."**

Of course, I especially enjoyed their talk at the end of the episode, when Cat asked if Vincent would ever stop his heart for her, and he replied, "every time I see you."  Swoon!

"Got enough to make the ocean look like it's a pond
Got enough to turn the valleys into mountaintops
And we live like legends now, know that we'll never die
We got love, we got love..."**
Cat's instincts and Tess' shortcomings: Possibly my favorite part of this episode was Catherine's suspicions being confirmed at every turn.  I'm tired of so many characters treating Cat like she's going nuts for thinking there's a superhuman foe around every corner or that Bob and Carol were stalking her and Vincent.  Guess what, everyone: those things were true!  I happen to like Cat's tenacious nature and her insistence on not sitting around waiting for the next disaster when she can be one step ahead of it.

At the front of the "doubting Catherine" pack this week was Tess, with her captain's bossy pants on and too much attitude when confronting her bestie at the beginning of the episode.  It felt like Tess was almost forcing herself to try and nip Cat's attempts to catch Bob and Carol in the bud just to prove a point about her own seniority that didn't need to be made.  By the end of the episode, when two killers had been stopped and Tess had been forced rather roughly - by almost losing J.T. - to acknowledge the truth of Catherine's suspicions about Bob and Carol's plans, Captain Tess was looking pretty awkward and sheepish.  I know that Tess' behavior towards Catherine is starting to detract from her popularity among fans, and I can see why.  Even though Tess was out of line this week, I still like her and the way she and Cat are best friends whose relationship is strong enough to surmount the occasional conflict between them.  The writers definitely use Tess as an occasional foil to Catherine out of convenience or just to stir the pot, maybe not realizing that such behavior makes Tess seem alternatively mean or foolish.  Hopefully, Tess learned her lesson this time.

I like Cat's new partner so far.  He has a cute, youthful enthusiasm about him and seems intelligent and capable, while respectful of Catherine and her talents.  We'll have to see how large or small Atchison's role on the show is destined to be.
Vincent's woodland adventures, and J.T.'s crazy plan: This part of the episode was great.  Finally, after several episodes of How I Met Your Beast, BatB got back into its fantasy roots and explored Vincent's nature and his ability to control himself while using his powers for good.  Vincent going so totally primal brought a new challenge for him, such as he hasn't grappled with in some time.  It was fascinating to see Vincent and Bob face off, to the extent that - coupled with the scenes between Carol and Cat - I'm regretful that these two villains were killed off.  I'd love to know the backstory of Bob and Carol.  They were more than just remorseless killers; they feared for their lives and seemed forced in a way to bring Vincent in and eliminate Catherine.  Plus, Bob and Carol's love for one another and the way it consumed them formed an interesting parallel for Vincent and Cat's story.  Bob and Carol's love couldn't save them, and even killed Carol; yet Catherine and Vincent always seem able to fall back on their love at the scariest moments to rescue them, and win.

J.T. was awesome this week.  He was quick on his feet, driven, and thought fast enough to thwart Bob, save Vincent, and possibly get rid of the super-serum in his system all in one fell swoop.  Even though J.T. was as clever and on-task as Tess was distracted, apparently, by her own ego and too slow to acknowledge what was really going on, I liked their "I love you moments," which were very cute.

But J.T. needs to put his glasses back on.  Now.  Please.

What did you think of this episode?  Share your thoughts in the comments!  And be sure to catch an all-new Beauty and the Beast, Thursday at 8/7c on the CW.

*One more point about the phrase "someone out there experimenting on innocents" - the real problem may be that this phrase just reminds us how little we actually know about the experiments and who is conducting them, and on whom, and why.  Argh!  Haha, I'm sure the answers are imminent...the writers couldn't put it off much longer.

  1. Thanks Virginia ~ nice to see another person defend Catitude ;) I'm definitely anti-Tess again ~ booo her bossy pants for not trusting Cat's instincts or even as a BFF to have her back! Loved the parallels between Mr and Mrs Superhuman Assassins with our VinCat ~ my favorite BATB guests since Agent Knox RIP *sniffles* pity they had to be killed off ~ might have been interesting if they could have really teamed up but since we only have 13 eps ~ everything is blurring at breakneck speed it seems. Bob & Carol's relationship, Vincent beasting down with Cat's love (thanks JT!) and the awwwsome VinCat ending made this ep for me *swoons with you* ♥

  2. That quote about his heart made me swoon a little too, Virginia.

    Thanks for the great review.

  3. Excellent review of "The Most Dangerous Beast", Virginia. If we see some of the flaws in the writing, why can't the writers themselves see them. Is it because BATB has many writers and because of this these writers aren't familiar with what's going on in the plot? "Co-dependency" and "experimenting on innocents" is sounding like a broken record now. I don't see the need to keep saying these phrases over and over again - we get it. The writers for the episodes change each week and I think that's the problem. I don't know why now that Vincent and Catherine have gotten engaged, they don't have time for each other and those tender romantic steamy scenes are absent in these episodes. It looks like they want to cut away from the romance and fantasy and make it more of the common variety series carried by the CW. If they don't put the romance, fantasy and sci-fi back into the story line, then I don't know if this series will make it. At the moment I really can't stand Tess - she has let her promotion go to her head and she's not much of a good friend to Catherine anymore. I really like Cat's new partner, Wesley Atcheson. I hope they keep the character in the series. He's intelligent, has a great personality and respects Catherine and her abilities in crime investigation. I think he makes an excellent partner for her. I loved it when Catherine asked Vincent if he would stop his heart for her and Vincent replied "Every time I see you" - that was really romantic and what every woman would love to hear. It seems the writers just want to give us a smidgeon of VinCat romance, but nothing more. All in all, I enjoyed this episode and can't wait for "Chasing Ghosts".

  4. Great review Virginia! Totally agree with you, except for the Catitude part. I half agree with you on that. I think she has always had that tenacious approach to a point & almost always gets it right, but I think this season has taken it to an irrational irritating degree. However, in her defence, I do believe that she was pushed into being a little more extreme this season, as a result of everyone dismissing her instincts & V in particular, trying to bury his head in the sand, hoping it will all just go away.

  5. Hi Virginia, another great review and I so agree with your first paragraph. It's kinds taking away from the show to the point where it is getting very annoying and I am fast forwarding through some of those scenes.

  6. Thanks for the review!! I so agree with you. I don't know why but I have this feeling since S2, they are not affectionate with each other, like there is no emotion there. Yes, they have chemistry but it's like they don't care, they almost die!!! I will keep watching BATB but I feel like I'm not liking it that much anymore!!! Cat is so annoying!! Same lines!! Now with the CODEPENDENCY!!! I mean, come on!!!! There are surely great writers out there!!!

  7. He's baaaack! (Reynolds) LOL, okay here goes, "Chasing Ghosts" is an emotional roller coaster. Catherine goes through the emotional ringer just like Vincent went through the life-threatening ringer last week. We see Vincent's family and fans who've had questions about Vincent not seeing them after he was made public will have their questions answered in spades. The superhuman experiment gets more dangerous and we find out the origin of the Serum, let's just say that they didn't forget mythology from the HORRENDOUS Season 2. There still isn't any Vincat steaminess but it kind of makes sense on why not, like i said Catherine goes through some stuff. Hope that's enough teases to get you excited and NO! Atchison should NOT come back, with him comes back the STUPID procedural element the show got rid of in Season 1 and we should NEVER, EVER, EVER see it again as long as the show is in the air, it is CRAP on toast to have the procedural element back.

  8. Great review - as always - Virginia, thank you so much for pulling all the strings together. Agree about the stupid repetitive and WRONG phrases. Those two are NOT co-dependent, they just depend on each other and that is totally okay for couples to do. Co-dependency is destructive and crippling in your everyday life when you have to double-check every little move or decision with your partner. This is NOT what those two do. Moving on.
Being me, I have to point out a few things that did not add up, but I am trying to keep it light, since I liked the episode very much and do not want to rain on everybody's parade:

    - when you want to make a hunt in the woods interesting, you need to take Vincent's power to blurr away, otherwise the hunt is over before it really begins. (Thank goodness this power is back in the next episode, which I just saw - awesome!)
    - Vincent and Catherine need to get better cell phone providers, since everybody else was able to talk to their loved ones except them. Yes, Bob could have blocked Vincent's cell, but he had no idea that JT was there too, so he could not have blocked his cell.
    - when you make maps with secret markings, always leave a black light lamp right next to it so other people without super vision can use it to read that map
    - when you enter the apartment of super dangerous super humans have the civilian kick in the door and then go in after him with the gun just in case they are home
    - if your boyfriend tells you he is in great pain, punch him anyway - it is a sign of love or some sort of strange foreplay - take your pick.

  9. OMG - So it's going to be an emotional episode that has Catherine going through the ringer (can only imagine what's going to happen). I bet it has something to do with Vincent and Catherine going to see Daddy Reynolds. I bet he still hates Vincent and to know that his daughter is going to marry him must have in seething with anger. They're bringing in their families for this one which is going to be interesting since we've never seen any of them with the exception of Vincent's nephew. So we're finally going to find out something about the superhuman serum and it's origin. Quite a bit of information about that finally - glad to know some mythology is coming into the picture. I like Atchison as Catherine's partner (IF she has to have a partner, that is). He seems to have her back and it looks like he can be trusted. He's got a nice personality too - now that Tess is "the big-shot, look at me I'm Captain and the Boss". No - I don't want the BORING "procedural element" back at all. I agree 100% that the CRAPPY "procedural element" has to stay out of it. If they keep it out, and bring in more mythology and the connection to Catherine's ancestors, that will be interesting. Can't wait to see this one as usual and I hope the writers get the picture that the romance, mythology, fantasy, mystery and sci-fi elements are what sets this show apart. Disappointed we don't get a VinCat steamy love scene, but if it doesn't fit in, then we can accept that. Maybe they're working their way up to one - ya think?? Thanks for the preview Ivan.

Thanks, and I agree that Vincent and Cat need some time to enjoy their love and new engagement. Maybe the writers could try that out for a change sometime soon, instead of having Cat run around frantic and Vincent get frustrated by that. I think these two characters are smart enough to figure it out! :)

Yes, Catitude's been a little over the top, but she was also pushed to that point. Hoping it will even out soon!

  15. I'm okay with not having the procedural as well but I am NOT okay with still no steamy live scenes. What the Showrunner doesn't get, and yes it is the Showrunner, not the writers as he drives what the direction of the show, is that the appeal of this show, I feel, is those intense, passionate, moments against all the horrendous things that are happening. It's like finding a flower growing in the middle of a burned forest- ( I live in BC and there are forest fires burning all around me so the comparison)-that was what hooked me to the show in the first place-the growing love between Cat and Vincent amidst the beasts and Muirfiield and leading that double life. We didn't get it all last season and we are still waiting for it and then season is almost 1/2 over. Yes there was lots happening in Chasing Ghosts and it was emotional for a at but so was Anniversary in season 1- that is when the passionate intense scene would make sense to show the incredible love the two have for each other. 16. Everything you hit on is so true, but what can we do to get the message to the "Showrunner". So far the Showrunner seems to be leaving out on purpose what made this series so unique, Catherine and Vincent's incredible passionate love and the mythology behind it. I think he knows that the fans are salivating for the steamy love scenes and they're purposely not being put into the plot. Why? I don't know, but maybe we should put in some complaints through twitter directly to The CW. Then again, Season 1 had Sherri and Jennifer steering the boat which is sorely missed now. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving S3, but I do wish those scenes would be put into the plot too because they are very important. As I've said - it's what set this show apart from the all the other shows on the CW.

Agreed on all counts. I don't like the way they are writing Tess this season at all. I'll miss Bob and Carol...they were so interesting and fun, one of the highlights of Season 3 so far.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You're welcome, what Catherine goes through actually isn't about Vincent at all. Reynolds actually has some intel that can help, yeah no procedural at ALL! We can only hope they're working their way up to it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Nice, VERY nice, and what BC?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not to mention Vincent and Catherine got together is Season 1, which NEVER happens on shows LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  22. BC as in British Columbia, Canada. What really kinda

    ReplyDelete
  23. I figured Reynolds would have some info that can help Catherine find the people behind these experiments - hope he genuinely helps his daughter this time instead of pulling some trick to break her up with Vincent. I really hope they're working their way to getting rid of the procedural stuff. What would you think of Catherine leaving the precinct and going into DHS as an Agent? I guess that won't happen either. I saw the "extended promo" of Chasing Ghosts, but it didn't give out much information at all except that it looks like Catherine didn't want a bridal shower. Guess who instigated that - annoying Heather. Don't like the fact that JT set Vincent up with a lap-dancer at the bachelor party he has for Vincent. From what I could gather from the promo, both Vincent and Catherine don't look too happy about their parties. I hope they're working their way up to a couple of the upcoming episodes having a hot steamy scene.

  24. Biff Bifferson14 July 2015 at 01:14

The Vincent/Cat thing is about as romantic as poison oak. It's not even interesting enough to discuss so I'll mention a couple of other issues with the show's suckiness.
The writers continue to lack imagination. The J.T. super guy thing had tons of fun possibilities, but these writers won't allow fun and quickly removed his power.
When Vincent got the drop on Bob, the first time, he did the Hollywood Hesitation, which is where a normal beast would have ripped Bob up, but a Hollywood beast pauses dramatically so Bob can shoot him. Too obvious for words.
Cat was all set to help Carol, even though Carol shot some random guy just to draw her out. No need to worry about random extras I guess, as long as their dying doesn't cause Cat to break a nail.
One last thing and it's not reserved for the clowns who run this show, but for all shows out there. Empty coffee cups. In two scenes Vincent enters with empty coffee cups. Dear Directors - ever hear of water? That would make the cups move properly and not sound empty, and the actors wouldn't throw their heads back at the first sip, which in real life gets your mouth burned or coffee all down your front. Either stop that empty cup stupidity or leave the cups out!!!
One more last thing. Cell phones. "I can't hear you - you're breaking up! Huh? What? Did you say you need bad cell phone reception to move along a really stupid plot? What? I can't hear you!
It's an emergency? Okay, I'll keep driving further away. What?!"

    ReplyDelete
  25. You'll get you answer about Reynolds, i would LOVE if Catherine became part of a top-secret division of the DHS. Catherine has some issues she has to work through that she hasn't told Heather about so Heather can't really be blamed for what she does in this situation. I can spoil this so you don't hate JT, he didn't order a stripper for Vincent's bachelor party. They both have good reasons for not enjoying their bachelor/bachelorette parties, Catherine a lot more than Vincent, have your tissues ready for the last scene before the cliffhanger ending. I hope so too, we deserve this after that second season almost lost me as a viewer.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You nailed it with the "writers changing every week". May be they need some editor to keep track of these details. I wonder if JR & KK have any say in this??

    ReplyDelete
  27. So it's have the tissues ready. OMG what the hell is going to happen and it has a cliffhanger ending. Sounds like I'm going to have a sleepless night after watching this one. So JT and Heather aren't to blame for the bachelor/bachelorette parties? I kinda got the feeling that it wasn't JT's style to have a stripper at Vincent's bachelor bash. Maybe this "stripper" is another one of those superhumans sent in to kill or capture Vincent. Am I on the right track? It's o.k. if you don't want to say anything more except for telling me if I'm hot or cold about the stripper. I have a feeling this is going to be an awesome episode and maybe a sad one. I'll be sitting on the couch with the box of tissues.

    ReplyDelete
  28. No, JR & KK are given the script and do their thing. They have nothing to do with any input. I think it's the "Showrunner" who calls the shots - he's the guy steering the episodes. This guy has made mistakes with another series in the past and now they've given him BATB to run. He's either going to kill it or make it fly. Let's hope he makes the ratings fly upward. Remains to be seen as we move along in the episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah definitely have box of tissues ready, on the stripper: You are on the North Pole drinking an ice cone bathing in a tub of ice cubes and snow LOL. Yeah they're not to blame, i mean Heather planned the bridal shower but what HAPPENS during the shower ISN'T her fault. The episode DOES have a cliffhanger ending but it's a VERY confusing ending, it feels like it was cut off in the middle of it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. You made me burst out laughing - so I'm really cold about the stripper. O.K. We're going to be VERY confused over the cliffhanger ending. Hmm sounds like the really did cut it off in the middle so we can pick it up in the next episode which is 7 and I think the title is "Both Sides Now". Now I know I'm going to have a lot of trouble sleeping after watching this one. Would you sum this episode up as "Bizarre"?

    ReplyDelete
  31. KK was allowed to rewrite scripts all through season 1, but Brad Kern took that away from her. There was an interview at the beginning of S2 where she said that they have a new creative writing team and that she is completely stepping back from 'getting involved'. That is too bad, because the actors know their characters best and then maybe we would not have had this terrible character assassination of S2 - especially for Catherine. And maybe she would have softened her character a bit in S3, you know: less bickering, less bullying, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Agree about the missing romantic moments. Feels like they have been married for ages and the PASSION has fizzled out. The only remotely good scene was in the very beginning when she jumped into his arms, but they did not carry it through by showing us what happened next.
LOL about the cell reception - mentioned that in my post above - so ridiculous and unbelievable. The empty cup thing has been going on forever. The few times we really saw coffee was when Catherine spilled it in the dungeon when she had a flashback about the slimebag 'whose name we will never mention again' and it dripped into the cave below. Oh, yeah, and one time when the slimebag put a pound of sugar into it and was stirring it like a maniac - that was in Ancestors and my lovely Catherine was brain damaged at the time, because she actually kissed the slimebag.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I also do not think VinCat are coodependentes. For me the biggest problem so far was Cat trying to control Vincent. The episode was very good, I loved the interaction between the characters, but I miss more emotional scenes and sweeping between VinCat including lines like "I was so afraid of losing you."
    I loved your review. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Or maybe the two leading actors don't feel the need to force the passion anymore to make the relationship more believable.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The two lead actors can't do what's not written in the scripts they have to follow. There's a big difference from how S1 was done and the way the series changed in S2 and now again in S3. It's being run by a different producer than in S1 and the actors can't just go off and do their own thing. JMO, but I suspect that's what has changed.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't understand. If BK wants this show to fail, why not just leave, and let somebody else take charge?? I still believe it is not fair to J & KK, they are magic together and the show has great potential

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't think he wants the show to fail, but BK is the showrunner and it's now going to be done his way and the way he wants it to be. I'm sure he doesn't want to lose his job, but he's missing the point of how it was written in S1. He's probably thinking he's running it in the right direction. We'll see how the episodes progress as we see each one. Then we can better figure out S3 and how good it was. They're already shooting S4 so maybe S4 will be a big surprise. He's the boss and maybe he's got a plan.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I didn't think about that, i'd have to see the next episode to see if it's a kind of two-parter, i'd go with "myth-heavy and tear-jerker" more than "bizarre" because the only bizarre part is the last second of the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well, it seams we might be seeing more of that 10,000 years old creature that was found in Windsor's "Chelsea Curios", its collar and that GEM. Hopefully they will explore the mythology element a bit deeper

    ReplyDelete
  40. That should be interesting since they left us hanging about all that in S2. Now maybe we'll get answers about the mythology of the collar and the gem.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I wouldn't go that far actually.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yeah you made perfect sense, honestly yes it should be a two-parter and if it's not they've confused the audience if the next episode starts as if nothing happened. I'll say this if it's not, it came out of nowhere during the scene, like as if they needed a cliffhanger just to show stakes.

    ReplyDelete
  43. There was a hint by JT in Ep. "Chasing Ghosts" about 10,000 years old proto-beast DNA , so, may be???

    ReplyDelete
  44. You sound like you did watch "Chasing Ghosts". Did you note what JT said about the 10,000 years old proto-beast DNA?? so, why not?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Because maybe it's just that, the Proto-Beast and not the Gem, after all the Big Bad wants powered superhumans, not having them have the weakness Vincent has.

    ReplyDelete
  46. If it's not and whoever is running this show (we know who that is) doesn't even know about cliffhangers. If they put a cliff hanger in, then they'd better explain it in the next episode to clear up what's happening. If it doesn't happen, then I'm afraid this show is sunk. It's already beginning to grate on my nerves. It's almost like they have Catherine being some superhuman obsessed person over cracking these cases. From what I saw of the extended promo of Chasing Ghosts, it doesn't look to me like she even wants to get married - she's too busy chasing after these phantom people who are conducting crazy superhuman experiments. I think enough is enough of this and it should come to an end pretty fast. It's beginning to look like S2 is creeping in here again. It's just no Beauty and The Beast anymore. I've had enough patience, but this is too much.

    ReplyDelete
  47. - I was hoping Reynolds would provide more information about the early experiments, the ones that Vanessa as doing. I am not sure if Vincent sensed some lying in his words??
    - I don't understand how that small box ended up with Reynolds. It looked like it was taped right before Vanessa was killed, and she was then married to Chandler?? what else was in that box???
    - Speaking of that tape, what exactly were those answers that Catherine was not already aware of??? The only thing new was that she heard her mother say "I am sorry"
    - I am still not sure Catherine is ready to commit to this marriage. I really hope she will prove me wrong
    Thank you

    ReplyDelete
  48. Actually, we are going to get TWO weddings! One in 308 - the episode is called 'Shotgun Wedding' and according to some leaks it is a failed VinCat wedding involving guns and goons. The real wedding should happen in 313 because in 401 they are both wearing wedding rings and are on their honeymoon.

    ReplyDelete
  49. BK is writing these scripts and I'm telling you, there will be NO weddings. Just because they're wearing fake wedding rings in 401 doesn't mean they're actually married. They must be hunting some super humans and have to pretend they're married. It's just going to be another teaser. Besides what plot can there be if they're married anyway unless S4 is being turned into one of those comedies. I just don't like the direction it's going in.

  50. Catherine going after superhumans in this episode is actually avoidance because of what she goes through in the episode. I saw new pictures of Catherine from "Both Sides Now" where it looks... well you'll see so maybe it's not a confusing cliffhanger.

  51. Yeah me too after i saw the new pictures for episode 3x07, how were you during Catherine's last scene?

  52. Something happens on the superhuman case that proves that the Big Bad isn't messing around and is essentially losing patience.

  53. Yeah me too, i mean we got more than i thought from him honestly but yeah more, Vincent would gotten more mad at Reynolds if he HAD lied. It was given to Reynolds? I don't remember that, i think Catherine was looking for proof that her mother DID love her because she'd been doubting it ever since she found out what Vanessa did to Vincent. Not necessarily about the superhuman experiments, i think after this episode Catherine will be more into the wedding, at least i hope so anyway.

  54. I'm losing patience too as well as the Big Bad, if things don't start making sense. I'll see how tonight's episode goes and I hope I do like it. It's just that I think I see it going down hill and I think this writer/showrunner thinks S2 was a great season. To the rest of us it was HORRENDUS and I don't want a dark S3. The dialogue better pick up too.

  55. This is what Reynolds said, that he gave Catherine her mother's box when he sold his house, after being arrested I suppose
Guess we'll just have to wait and see, and hope for inspired writers to take this show in the right direction

  57. Ivan, "Chasing Ghosts" was really an AWESOME episode - everything about it was super. You were right about having the tissues handy. You had to cry with Catherine when she found and played the tape that her mother made. The scene when Heather came in and they both cried was very well done by both KK and Nicole. The tape explained a lot. I was really glued to this one and the ending is quite the "cliff-hanger" because now the BIG BAD knows who they are. Vincent and Catherine really have a target on their backs. Another one of those superhumans invaded the church and is really out to get them. So next week's episode is going to be a real hair-raiser I think. The short promo looks as though Vincent has met his match with this hooded superhuman. Wonder what the title means "Both Sides Now". You'll be finding out before me so I'm really looking forward to some little hints. Really curious about the title and its meaning. This episode pulled me back into believing that S3 is going to be AWESOME and we've got more coming. It was well acted and very well written. I also loved the last scene when Vincent joins Catherine in the church, and there was just a smidgeon of VinCat love. I enjoyed it a lot.

  58. Barbara, you were right - I really enjoyed "Chasing Ghosts". It was excellent - the acting and the writing were great. You just had to cry with Catherine when she found and played her mom's tape and then when Heather came in and the two of them cried, I was a bucket of tears. Loved this episode and next week's is going to be very exciting since that superhuman hooded guy is after them and it looks like Vincent might be overpowered from the short promo they showed. I'm also curious about the title of the episode "Both Sides Now". Wondering what the meaning might be. Anyway, I'm back on board and I think S3 is getting better. Looking forward to the two weddings - hope we really get a "Real" wedding too.

  59. Yeah you had to be, the new superbeast looks like when Vincent was before he was reprogrammed, accelerated healing and the like. I saw the ending again and it made me feel better on knowing that it was a true cliffhanger.

  60. Didn't you just love the last scene in the church between Vincent and Catherine. There was that VinCat love peeking through. It may not have been the passionate love we're waiting for, but it was a very tender moment between them.

  61. Maybe Catherine as to choose between being "normal" or being a "beast hunter"?

  62. I am so glad you liked it - I did too. It had the 'old' feelings and I am hopeful that they get this thing back on track.

  63. Could be - maybe she's the one chosen to destroy all beasts. Hopefully Vincent isn't in that category because Vincent has humanity. These killer beasts don't so maybe that's who Catherine must track down and destroy with Vincent's help. She might be faced with a great challenge and decision. Don't you just love the mythology, fantasy and then throw in the romance between VinCat and you've got an awesome series. Very good thought Ivan.

  64. I absolutely loved this episode "Chasing Ghosts". It definitely had a lot of S1 in it. I loved the church scene at the end with Catherine and Vincent - he had his arm around her and kissed her forehead to comfort her. There it was a bit of their incredible love for each other, but it gave me the "old" feelings too. I really hope it's all uphill from here. The writers have an awful lot to work with - let's keep our fingers crossed. The next episode "Both Sides Now" looks like it's going to be another awesome episode.

  65. Thank you, completely agree on the mixture of all things that make the show great.

  66. BATB is the best series on the CW and I don't know if this network knows it. This series has depth compared to the CW's two favorites who are rather shallow. I do watch those two shows, but I don't enjoy them or look forward to each episode the way I do with BATB.
