Baby Daddy - Ring Around The Party - Review: “Ben vs. Ross”

Jul 17, 2015

The episode opens with Bonnie and Brad basking in their newly engaged bliss. Bonnie is gushing over how much she loves her ring but as soon as he leaves she exclaims that she actually hates it! The diamond is way too small for her expectations. Tucker offers to take it off her hands so that she can pretend that she lost it and get a new one. However, later, Brad tells her that it was a family heirloom that has huge meaning for his family. Bonnie needs to get the ring back from Tucker but he’s lost it too! I loved this storyline! Anytime that Tucker and Bonnie are together I just think are the best and funniest scenes. They’ve always had a really good chemistry together and I love their love/hate relationship.

Meanwhile, Ben is still pining for Riley and is super jealous of Ross, a story we’ve seen a million times on this show before, let alone any other story ever told. Ben and Ross really start hating each other, which sort of seems to come out of nowhere but okay. Earlier in the episode, Riley and Ross and Danny and Ashley had gone on an awkward double date at the bar and Riley admitted to not meeting any of Ross’s older friends. She decides to host a cocktail party to meet them and Ben ends up being the bartender after being threatened off the guest list by Ross.

Later, Danny finds Bonnie’s ring but there’s a miscommunication and Ben ends up mixing it in with the ice that he serves to Riley’s guests as he’s bartending. When Tucker and Bonnie find out, they go and try to search through everyone’s drinks. Tucker has the totally wrong strategy, he tries to drink everyone’s drinks and then gets super drunk, which is hilarious! It’s also the catalyst for Ross and Riley’s break up after drunk Tucker spills the beans that Danny is really the brother to watch out for, not Ben. Looks like that big fight between Ross and Ben (and Danny) at the party was all for nothing. That fight was ridiculous but Ross did cross a line talking about Emma, so I don’t blame Ben for getting too heated. The thing I really didn't like about this episode was that they kind of treated Danny as a non-contender most of the time. It was as if it was a fight for Riley between just Ben and Ross. The end kind of made up for it but not enough.

While all this was happening, Danny was busy trying to figure out what his “new” girlfriend’s last name is because he realized he knows her about as well as we do, aka not at all. She temporarily (or maybe not, it’s unclear) breaks up with him for this. I really hope its permanent. By the end of the episode everything works out for the best. Bonnie found her ring at the party, unfortunately in front of Brad, when someone coughed it up and awkwardly thought they were being proposed to by their boyfriend. But she ended up getting a new, bigger ring anyways. Also, Ross and Riley are no more!! They break up in a rather mature and calm way, I would expect nothing less from Ross, and I’m hoping that this will push Danny and her closer to getting together. I can feel things building up. The last episode of the season is going to be Bonnie and Brad’s wedding I think, and there’s no better time for two characters who have been in love for years to get together than at a wedding…and a season finale! So I’m really hoping that happens. I’ve gotten the screener for the finale but I’m debating on watching it now or after the next couple of episodes air because I don’t want to skip ahead. I don't know what to do! Either way, you can expect a preview with some scoop from the finale in a couple weeks! I’ll wrap it up as usual with some of my favorite lines from this episode, share yours in the comments!

“The best part is, if the diamond falls out no one will notice.” - Ben

“This ring is supposed to shout to the world that I am marrying a younger, beautiful man, but all it shows is that my fiancé is a cheap bastard!” - Bonnie
“I told you we could just go back to being us. Dating other people. Right in front of each other. Not awkward at all.” - Riley

“I saw Ross taking off. Curfew back at the rest home?” - Ben

“I know what you’re thinking. He hasn't introduced me because he’s embarrassed by our relationship. That’s not true.” - Riley
“Actually, I just assumed it’s because they’re all dead” - Ben

“If you think the ring was the problem with your last marriage, then I don’t think you know how gay works” - Tucker

“Wait, did you go through all my drawers?” - Tucker
“All of them. Which is why I can’t make eye contact with you now.” - Bonnie

“You guys are missing a great party. Well, a party.” - Danny

“Are you crazy? I’m just dating you until Steve and Marcy break up. Hey, Steve.” - Party Guest

“I only lied because I didn't want to tell the truth.” - Bonnie

“I mean, it’s just two guys that look like Ben circling the two guys that look like Ross.” - Tucker

What did you think of this episode? Are you happy Ross and Riley broke up? Did you love Drunk Tucker as much as I did? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for reading and see you next week!

You could sent the screener to me then I could watch it and tell you if Danny and Riley get together.
I do hope that the Bronnie wedding goes through.

  2. hahah nice try! But you'll have to wait until my preview goes up! ;) I think the wedding will happen. It'll probably come close to not happening but in the end I'm sure everything will work out...just hopefully not for Ben because I need Danny and Riley haha

Why are you so anti Ben?
In the earlier season it was a clear yes to Danny and Riley and no to Ben and Riley for me but Ben has grown up a bit sinds then,
Riley got over her stupid crush but Danny stil won't take chances .

  4. I'm not so anti-Ben as I'm just SO pro-Danny. I actually really love Ben as his own character and I agree he has grown up a lot which I'm proud of him for (still a long way to go though!) but Danny has just always been my favorite, he's so adorable and lovable. I've been rooting for him since the beginning and it is frustrating that he still won't take chances but it's also frustrating that Ben just won't take the hint. And in defense of Danny I think it's a very difficult situation for him. He loves his brother so much I think he hesitates to make any sort of move, especially now when Ben is being so vocal about Riley. I find Danny to be a very selfless character so I think it's hard for him to just do something for himself that makes him happy without worrying how it will effect everyone around him. I want Ben to be happy though and find the perfect person for him but I don't think it's Riley and forcing it every single week for multiple seasons is just taking away from the show at this point.

  5. I agree with you. Danny is a selfless sweetheart of a character. But for me the difference between Danny and Ben (in terms of why I prefer Danny for Riley over Ben) is the fact that since he was a kid he's put her first. His main desire has always been to make her happy, even if he has to sacrifice his own happiness. Ben puts Ben first; even when he's doing something for Riley, there's an element in there was what he wants that's higher on the list than what she wants. When he realizes she's unhappy, he'll fix it for her, but he has to realize he's upset her first. I'm definitely a Riley/Danny fan.
