The SpoilerTV 2015 Episode Competition - Day 17 - THE FINAL + 3rd Place Play-Off

Jul 2, 2015

DAY 17! (Results from yesterday can be found here.)

Hey all,

Well, exactly a month ago, we opened up nominations for the competition. After two weeks of nominations, and 16 days of voting, we've come down to our final two competitors. For the first time in three competitions, both finalists come from the same show - Person of Interest. Unsurprisingly, this has raised questions and complaints by some who claim that it won't be especially fun for only one fandom to be taking part in the final, which is, clearly, the biggest event of the competition. Myself and DarkUFO had discussed prior to the tournament perhaps ensuring in the draw that the same show could not face each other in the final, an idea that I didn't implement (and for good reason - it felt too much like I was manipulating the draw). Whether or not there is a better way to organise this is something that I can investigate for next year. For now, however, in an effort to get more people involved today, we've got a play off for third place in the competition. Outlander and Agent Carter fans - make sure that you spread the word to try and get your show onto the podium.

Also, once you've voted, make sure to go and get your nominations in for the SpoilerTV Character Cup.

The rules are as follows:
1. Two episodes go head to head for 24 hours. The episode that emerges as winner will go through to the next round.
2. Vote for your favourite episode, and tell us what you voted for.
3. Tell others about the competition! Social media is your best friend in this competition if you want your favourite episode to win.
4. Be respectful. This is a competition, but be friendly. Let's not have any abuse directed at any person, fandom or show, as we've had on occasion in the past.

THE FINAL

Third place play-off

The draw:

Don’t forget to share the post; the more people vote, the more chance your episode has of winning!

Check back tomorrow for my wrap-up post and the official announcement of the winner!

  3. First of all, thank you to all who made this happen and for recognizing a quality TV!
In my life I've seen quite a number of various episodes and I dare to say, If-Then-Else was the best of them all - it was different and had it all. It had me at the edge of the chair and at the same time made me laugh. So for me there's no questioning which one of these two should take the victory.

  8. Yay POI vs. POI final! Just shows how strong the fandom is. No matter which episode wins, just know that both episodes come from the same phenomenal and brilliant show and that's all that matters.

My votes goes to: If-Then-Else. Truly a masterpiece and one of my nominations in the first place. Also, Snafu for 3rd place!

  9. POI (If-Then-Else) and Agent Carter (I’m really proud the show has made it this far and so it gets my vote)

    ReplyDelete
  10. I also went with Agent Carter in the third place play-off. I'm sure it will probably lose to Outlander (again, not underestimating it) but I'm insanely happy at how well the show has done here.

Polls close at 11pm BST tomorrow. Make sure to come back after that for my wrap-up post. Hopefully all of you who have put up with my poll ramblings throughout will be able to tolerate just one more post tomorrow :)

  11. Unsurprisingly, If-Then-Else is destroying YHWY.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yay. Congrats to both Person of Interest episodes on making the final. I chose If-Then-Else over YHWH for one reason. No Shaw.

    ReplyDelete
  13. If-then-else, definitely. For so many reasons. And also because it had Shaw. Hehe.

  14. If-Then-Else. Posting this again. ;)

  15. If-Then-Else! What a masterpiece of an episode.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Lol, the poll's been open 5 minutes and it's winning by 30 votes. Not destroying it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I also vote for Agent Carter because I liked the show better than I liked Outlander (although they really don't have a lot in common, except perhaps the post-war stuff).

    ReplyDelete
  18. If-Then-Else is a masterpiece and I absolutely love it and it will win by a landslide. That's why I cast a sympathy vote for YHWH (which to be honest is quite an epic episode on its own).

    ReplyDelete
  19. I had If-Then-Else destroying YHWY from the beginning.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I voted for If-Then-Else and The Wedding

    ReplyDelete
  21. If-Then-Else will win easily, had it beating YHWY all along.

    ReplyDelete
  22. We did it POI fans! If-Then-Else vs YHWH in the final round. :D
I voted for If-Then-Else today, it was one of the best episodes i've ever seen of any tv show. A masterpiece, a truly groundbreaking episode!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Voted for #Outlander The Wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  27. If-then-else!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am glad that POI is in the final though i would have preferred it was against any of the other shows that i like to make this more exciting.

I'm gonna go with POI - If-Then-Else and Agent Carter - Snafu.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The Finale Vote-POI.I don't watch it but i voted for it coz it must be an amazing show for so many people rooting for it.
The other vote goes to Outlander.Sorry Agent Carter.

Have to go with If-Then-Else for my final winner. Such a beautiful episode with the flashbacks to Herald teaching the machine chess and I loved how the machine kept playing out different scenarios till it found the best one. Overall my favorite episode of the season! And loved the kiss between Root and Shaw! A heartbreaking end to the episode made it my favorite! Even though the finale was great it wasn't as good as If-Then-Else!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Person of Interest - If-Then-Else

If it wins it will be the first time in 3 years from any of the competitions SpoilerTV have hosted - that I've taken part in - that a nomination of mine wins!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I've watched many shows and many episodes over the years but "If-Then-Else" is one of the best installments I have ever seen. The fact that POI is winning the competition no matter what episode wins is even more a plus point for me,

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh so we get to rag on YOU for Outlander losing out eh? LOL I'm sure if you nominated the show it's very worth the wins it's getting Robert! I know you have excellent taste!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm going with If-Then-Else, it's an amazing episode written by Denise "The Darkness" Thé
though YHWH is a great episode too. I predict the number of votes will drecrease drastically. Either way POI wins and many will not choose an episode. Happened to me in another fandom. Since then that poll always makes characters from the same show meet before the final.
    Second vote goes to Outlander.

    ReplyDelete
  35. congrats POI fans, what an achievement,
This final round I'm gonna vote for If-then-Else. and Agent Carter. :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yay, PoI vs PoI on the final! Although I really liked the season finale, my votes goes to If-Then-Else. Easily one of the best episodes of the year and also one of the best episodes of the Series.
Agent Carter gets my other vote!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Now explain how you chose POI out of all the options LOL xD

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ha, I'm only one vote :) It's my favorite show on network TV and fourth favorite on air behind Game of Thrones, Outlander and Black Sails.

    ReplyDelete
  39. just giving you a bad time - you know who I am on Twitter - just a different name is all :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. congrats POI fans, what an achievement,

This final round I'm gonna vote for If-then-Else. and Agent Carter. :)

    Good luck to all.

    ReplyDelete
  41. POI (If-Then-Else) and Agent Carter.

    ReplyDelete
  42. If-Then-Else! This so deserves to win (actually both POI's do) i only wish someone from POI and/or CBS could see the love that was shown here.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I forgot to mention: Thank you Bradley for running this competition again! It was a lot of fun.

    ReplyDelete
  44. If-then-else hands down and Agent Carter!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Enjoy this gif of Zoe Morgan.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Only Agent Carter for 3rd place, I don't watch PoI.

    ReplyDelete
  47. YHWH is an exciting and emotional episode in its own right; it's the first one that made me cry on first viewing. Plus, it features another chilling performance from John Nolan. But I made the honest vote for If-Then-Else, since it stands out more, and its structure gives it great repeat value. The flashbacks have a really classic feel to them, and are easily among my favorites of the series. The writing, acting, cinematography, and music in the final scene are phenomenal.

And although I don't watch Outlander or Agent Carter, the third-place poll is a great idea!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Bradley this competition has been amazing, thanks for the amazing work you've been doing running it.

Today I vote for If-Then-Else, enthusiastically at that. I liked the finale but it is not even a close contest, I preferred If-Then-Else easily. On the second poll, I proudly vote for Agent Carter - I really think it is impossible that it wins, but who knows, I never thought it would be here. You go, Peggy Carter.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I remember dreading opening Twitter the day after If-Then-Else was broadcast. I woke up, got dressed and prepared myself to watch the episode. I knew Sarah was pregnant; it had become quite obvious. And I had watched the promo so I knew there were 99% of chances that one of the characters would die.
By the end of the episode, I was trembling, on the edge of my seat, with my fists clenched. NEVER have I ever felt anything like this while watching a TV show and I've watched many over the years. If-Then-Else blew me away.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sounds a lot like the reaction from the last two episodes of Outlander. Some highly intense stuff and phenomenal acting there.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Fantastic final round. Voting for "If-Then-Else".

    ReplyDelete
  52. If-Then-Else for the win and Agent Carter for 3rd place.

    ReplyDelete
  53. It's truly amazing that one series is in the final round. Really stands to show the quality of POI's season.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The competition is not in any way about quality, simply popularity.

    ReplyDelete
  55. While I like Outlander, and I agree it's wonderfully acted and the landscape, wow, I love the landscape, I never truly connected with any of the characters. I liked Gaelis (sorry, how do you spell her name?) I figured she was special but I didn't actually expect she'd be from the future. I only realized it when she said "looks like I'm going to a f****** barbecue" hahaha. I think I'd have liked Outlander more if it had been a bit less focused on Jamie/Claire. I wanted to see more of Claire's struggle to reconcile the idea of the man she married and loved, Frank, with the fact that his ancestor was truly a piece of sh*t. I think it would have been more interesting for me to watch. So, while I like the show, it's nowhere near the passion I have for POI. However, I totally respect that you love Outlander and are obviously as devoted to it as I am to POI. :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm going to disagree with Bradley on the finale numbers. It won't even get half of the votes that If-Then-Else and the Outlander episode got.

Now that the battles are over, people will relax and take this one easy.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I hadn't even considered that. I was too excited from the fact that it was the final. You will probably be right, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  58. And many of the fans coming from the books don't think there is ENOUGH focus on Jamie & Claire! LOL. Geillis is unique - and I wouldn't count her out just yet! Ron Moore has his hands full trying to condense a story the size of Outlander down to a series amount of time and still keep long-standing fans happy. Do NOT envy him or want his job there! I know too well that not everyone will like the same stuff - cuz how boring would that be! I'll have to look out for POI - is it on DVD? No TV/Cable where I live - getting Outlander is a major PitA - but worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Also, these two of our ladies of POI bonding over guns and tasers :D http://33.media.tumblr.com/583190444eb74d38ee8b62827cb6b128/tumblr_n9qwjlaOQi1tgz90zo2_400.gif https://31.media.tumblr.com/706ce441516a9bfb4fe4812ee80d2091/tumblr_muiy4rUPic1qzniq3o9_r1_500.gif

    ReplyDelete
  60. It is on DVD yes. And I think season 4 will be released some time in August.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Two of my favorite shots from If-Then-Else:

    ReplyDelete
  62. Evaluating strategies...
    Two strategies available
    Option 1
    Option 2

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have to agree here. No matter what POI wins. Some people don't want to choose at all and won't vote. More if the episode they want to win is winning without a problem they won't try to recruit more people to vote.

    ReplyDelete
  64. The color theme for If-Then-Else was amazing. Yellow and blue. It worked so well together.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Road to the final

    If-Then-Else

    1st round: 87%
    2nd round: 66% - defeats last year's runner-up
    3rd round: 73%
    QF: 73%
    SF: 58%

    YHWH

    1st round: 78%
    2nd round: 66%
    3rd round: 69% - defeats last year's runner-up
    QF: 56%
    SF: 83%

YHWH had a tougher road to the final than If-Then-Else. After it cleared the 3rd and quarterfinal rounds, it was smooth sailing in the semis. If-Then-Else was cruising up until the semis where it faced a huge challenge from Outlander but one thing that stands out is that If-Then-Else has the higher lowest % win and highest % win than YHWH.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ah, but would If-Then-Else and YHWH have even been nominated for this competition if they weren't quality episodes? They're popular because they're excellent and resonated with fans. I think quality and popularity go hand-in-hand for a poll of this nature.

    ReplyDelete
  67. POI (If-Then-Else)
    Agent Carter

    ReplyDelete
  68. Goodbye Revenge, ∞x∞July 2, 2015 at 1:24 AM

Oh that brings me back to the good old days before Carter was killed off...

    ReplyDelete
  69. everyoneissleepingJuly 2, 2015 at 1:35 AM

Looks like If-Then-Else is going to win the competition :-) This is so well deserved.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I went for Agent Carter...because Snafu actually might have been the best episode of the season. The Wedding comes only second place for me. But it's a hard decision. (I admit, I also have a heart for the underdog).

    ReplyDelete
  71. But when you look at which one series is in the final round, it would prove otherwise that quality can be popular.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I know the polls aren't closed yet but we know the show! Wow, Person of Interest, you totally deserve the win! Your fans are awesome and I'm so thrilled to now be part of the fandom (Just started S2! I'm in love with Bear!)

I voted for If-Then-Else and Outlander, but if Agent Carter ends up taking it I'm perfectly okay with that as it's also a great show!

    ReplyDelete
  73. im late, missed the semi finals but it didn't matter. POI VS POI IN THE FINALS! I voted If-Then-Else of course and make no mistake it will win but even if you voted YHWH your still a winner because that episode is one of the best in the series and my favorite of the finales, it deserves its praise too.

    ReplyDelete
  74. My votes:

    1. Person of Interest - If-Then-Else
    2. Outlander - The Wedding

    ReplyDelete
  75. Just third place play off for me: Outlander

    ReplyDelete
  76. The massive support, love and especially new viewers tuning in for Person of interest makes me love Spoiler TV. Season 5, here we come!

    ReplyDelete
  77. POI - If-Then-Else
    Outlander

    ReplyDelete
  78. Bradley, thanks for doing this!! It was a great competition and It was the first time that i participated!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I've never seen Person of Interest, but seeing that one of its 2 episodes it's going to be the winner, I'll have to watch it sometime.
Today I just voted the third place poll for Agent Carter.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I have to give POI another try. I watched the first 8-9 episodes, but it just didn´t catch my interest.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Person of Interest YHWH and Agent Carter for me.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Then you might be interested in that article about Person Of Interest. The author of it had the same trouble a lot people in the fandom had with the more procedural beginning of the show. http://www.denofgeek.com/tv/person-of-interest/35935/why-person-of-interest-is-well-worth-your-time

    ReplyDelete
  83. And just because I miss Shaw, here's a gif of Shaw at her new job.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Agent Carter is actually holding her own much better than I thought she would be able to go against the Outlander monster fanbase. You go, Peggy Carter

    ReplyDelete
  85. I am shocked that Agent Carter made it this far. I had no idea it has so many fans. But congratulations, it is amazing show and i can't wait for Season 2

    ReplyDelete
  86. I think that's everyone's reaction. But at some point it makes sense lol. If everyone keeps saying that it is an amazing show (And it is, I am one more to agree), then it stands to reason that it keeps advancing lol. But I really never thought it would be able to come this far. It beat some big names out there - Arrow and The 100 finale, damn!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I can say that, as a new fan myself, it's worth it to stick it out. I'm only 4 episodes into season 2 and I'm enjoying it more than all of season 1. The show definitely takes a little while to find it's groove.

    ReplyDelete
  88. That is Incredible for Agent Carter! No one, except for POI of course, has come so close to outlander (the Wedding)

    ReplyDelete
  89. I'm not disagreeing with the fact that they are fantastic, and that If-Then-Else is one of the best that I've seen. But we can't call this the 'Best Episode Competition' because that isn't necessarily true, because quality is 100% subjective.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Yep, it can be. One doesn't necessarily equal the other, though.

    ReplyDelete
  91. If-then-else of course!

    ReplyDelete
  92. most likely because those are overlapping fandoms....

    ReplyDelete
  93. See, one more reason for you to watch it! ;) Peggy is too awesome

    ReplyDelete
  94. And Flash, which surprised me the most. I mean, seriously?

    ReplyDelete
  95. I just watched GOT "Hardhome" i Do Not Know what to say. I am shocked!!! That was just beyond brilliant. That is Why i love game of thrones!

    ReplyDelete
  96. For anyone who is planning to watch POI... Here's a great video that you might want to watch.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OW8ccgqt4tU

    ReplyDelete
  97. Congrats to all POI fans! It was well deserved win!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Yes, it was the procedural part I don´t like. The actors were great. Maybe I can find a bit of time this summer. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  99. Sounds good. I´ll give it another try. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  100. Hey. Were you aware that there is a season 5 PoI trailer, with the title "13ISNOTENOUGH"? I am assuming Warner produced it--because it is not even on the CBS.com PoI page. Am convinced that Warner will now start "planting seeds" with other networks, in the event that CBS drops the series next spring (which is what I think CBS will do). Hope I am wrong (about CBS), but if CBS were intent on keeping the series, they would have posted this (very good) trailer. Let me know when you view it.
