2015 Character Cup - Finals

Jul 23, 2015

Well it's finally here. After 23 days of nominating, predicting, commenting, and polling, it's down to the final two characters. Which will become the 2015 Champion? Root has demolished every competitor by at least 63% of the vote and has the most votes of any character in the Cup. Mickey however has risen from 55th place to beat off both the 10th and 2nd ranked characters in the largest upsets of Cup history. It's anyone's guess today who will take first and I'm expecting a high voter turnout. In the vehicle contest, our current TV shows pit Supernatural's Metallicar against Doctor Who's TARDIS. Both are highly popular and cult symbols of their shows. In the ended show TV Vehicle contest, two legendary starships compete as Serenity (Firefly) and the Enterprise (Star Trek) try to add to their show's glory in a fight I expect to be as highly contested as the Cup itself. There should be 3 exciting matches today, so fandoms….take your mark, get set, go! Happy voting!

Notes:

1. There will be a wrap-up article after the contest ends that will contain the final rankings and stats. I won't have time to update today.
2. I decided to add a run-off poll for 3rd and 4th place although there wasn't much opinion about it either way.
3. This is the part in the contest where people tend to forget the rules, so please check the links below for a refresher.

Prediction Cup Update - Congratulations to Perrin, who continues to lead the prediction contest with 43 correct predictions out of 63. Awesome! That's very impressive. Currently in second place is Idahoow and third is Senko. Nice job guys! Like the race for the Cup winner, this one will come down to the final winner and determine whether Perrin or Senko takes the crown as Prediction Cup winner. Thanks to everyone who participated in this topsy turvy race. I hope you had as much fun as I did.

Today's TV Talk Topics:

Wrap-Up: Except it isn't about TV this time. We added 3 new things to the Character Cup this year and I want to get your feedback on them: Challonge for the Prediction Contest, the TV Vehicle Contest, and the head-to-head style polling. Plus I would like your feedback on the topics chosen for the TV Talk Topics. Sorry in advance for the length.

A. Challonge - Did you participate in the prediction contest? If not, was there a reason besides not knowing about it before it closed? If yes, did you like it? How easy or difficult was it for you to use Challonge to create your predictions? What did you like and dislike (besides how your predictions did, of course) about the prediction contest this year? Would you recommend using this site to run the prediction contest next year? What suggestions do you have for the prediction contest overall?

B. Mini-contest - Did you participate in the TV Vehicle Contest? What do you like and dislike about having a mini-contest within the bigger one? Would you like to see this continue next year? If so, what are some mini-contest ideas? Would you prefer it to be in contest form like this one or just do a single poll? I'm also toying with the idea that any show still in the Character Cup in round 4 would NOT be eligible for the mini-contest. Since the purpose of the mini-contest is to keep fans involved whose shows are already out of the Character Cup, this seems more fair to me. In all honesty if we don't, then the same show will likely win both the Character Cup and the mini-contest because more of that fandom will be coming to the contest to vote. However, I want your opinion on the matter before making any final decisions. Would you be fine with excluding any shows represented in round 4 from the mini-contest or do you think it should be open to all shows?

C. Head-to-Head polling - (A special thanks to everyone who submitted pictures for the polls this year. You made my job so much easier.) If you look at the character polls today and then look at the vehicle polls, they represent the 2 types of polls we have available. The character part is considered a head-to-head poll. How do you like them compared to the standard polls? Is this something you think we should continue? Are there any drawbacks to doing head-to-head polls? For instance, was it harder to vote or see on a mobile device? Did it take longer to load? I always use my computer so I'm not sure how it looks on a smaller screen.

D. TV Talk Topics - (First off, thank you to everyone who gave suggestions for the TV Talk Topic. Since the actual Character Cup itself was shorter than last year, we still have plenty of topics for next year. I apologize if we did not get to your subject. Hopefully we can get to them next time or you can bring it up in the comments yourself today.) Did you participate in the TV Talk Topics? Why or why not? What suggestions would you make to the topics to increase the conversation? Which was your favorite topic to discuss this year? Did you participate in the TV Talk Topics last year? If so, would you be interested in revisiting some of the discussion topics from before in next year's contest or would you prefer to continue with new topics for as long as possible?

  1. Polls close around 5:15 pm CST on Thursday.

Rules are in the links below. Stats will be updated tomorrow after the contest ends instead of today. Sorry but I've got recaps to write.

The TV talk topics are rather lengthy today since there are 4 parts to them, so I will break them into 2 comments. Thanks to everyone who has participated. I've enjoyed discussing with you.

    TV Talk Topics, Part 1:

  3. Thanks to everyone who has made this contest great. It has been fun discussing with you and sharing out love for our favorite characters.

    1. Neither

    2. Scully - Again it's a female character icon vs. a character that I love also but has only had 8 episodes.

    3. Metallicar - I realize how awesome the TRADIS is but absolutely nothing beats Dean's Baby in my opinion. She's the greatest TV car of all time and one of the few that I think of as an actual character.

    4. Enterprise - This pretty much comes down to the fact that I loved Star Trek: Next Generation and thought Firefly was overrated. Either one is a classic.

  6. TV Talk Topics -

    A. I found Challonge very easy to use. Well, once I figured out how to enter all the nominees into the poll at once that is. From a user end though I had no issues and from an administrative view I liked how the poll kept track of everyone's rankings instead doing that myself. We also had 6 times the amount of people participating. Unless people had problems with the website, we'll likely use it again next year.

    B. I was pleased with how the mini-contest went. There's still bugs to work out with it but it had a good turnout and some comments made me think that some people stuck around solely for it. For me, the number of nominations should determine whether it is a contest like this one or a single poll. Personally, I do think that it would be better NOT to have shows that are still in the contest at round 4 be eligible tfor the mini-contest. If PoI or Shameless had a nomination in these polls, they would definitely win it too since they have the most people coming to the polls. I'd like to see the mini-contest be for everyone else whose favorites have been eliminated already. Currently the mini-contest topic I am thinking about if we have it next year is Favorite TV Animal.

    C. I love the head-to-head polls. I think the pictures make the polls stand out. However, they are a lot of work if you have to find the pictures too so I can't say thanks enough to those people who helped out with this.

    D. The TV Talk Topics are still my favorite part of the contest, even if the actual contest itself was more interesting this year. I appreciate all the great conversation we had and those who came up with topics in the beginning. There is still much I would like to discuss. My favorite was friendships on TV but I also really enjoyed hearing about how TV worked in other countries. I'm iffy on whether to recycle topics so soon or not because there are pros and cons to both.

  12. Thanks so much for such an awesome competition Dahne.I had so much fun.Keep up the good work :-)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thanks to Dahne for the organization! I've had lots of fun but also some difficult voting decisions. I am very happy my favorite Root made it to the finale. Go, Root! <3
In the small finale, I vote for Scully. :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Come on Root! Bring it home!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I didn't participate much in the polls but I loved the TV Talk Topics! They were really great :)

  16. Thank you for participating. I'm glad you had fun. It's been fun chatting with you all.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thnaks for participating. I too had some difficult choices to makes in this contest, even harder than usual. I am glad you had fun though.

    ReplyDelete
  18. One more question - Do you like the daily polls bumping right next to each other or would you prefer to have extra time in between them? For example, today's polls went up up slightly more than 15 minutes from when yesterday's ended. Do you like having that quick turnaround or would you rather have an hour or so between one set of polls ending and the next one beginning?

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1. Root, she's character wise the shows most interesting personality and while I know Shameless' first season Mickey didn't really stick out, he was there in episode 3 and all but....yah. Don't see the fuss

    2. Scully, sorry Peggy. Back in the early 90s it wasn't that usual to have female main characters let alone showing them as independant and strong. Scully was all that: strong, brilliant and commanded respect. I might be a young boy being born a year after the X Files even premiered but even I know and respect the way she has changed the television landscape.

    3. TARDIS, look...I love SPN. I love the Impala and I hate how it was written out for the entirety of season 7 but let's be fair here: Sam and Dean are the show, the Impala is their car. Not really storyline heavy. The TARDIS is not only the doctors vehicle but also the cause for alot of existential questions and storylines.

    4. Enterprise, COME ON! I love Firefly, probably the most innovative sci-fi show of the 2000s but let's be fair here: the Enterprise made history, it (much like the TARDIS and Scully) is a part of television history and a landmark in terms for film enthusiasts and the general public alike. Without the Enterprise inspiring so many young inventors we wouldn't bathe in the glory that is todays tech.

  20. Root and Peggy for the win! Very easy choices.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I just love to see how beloved Root is. In her early days on POI I always thought that I was alone with loving her and when season 3 came along the hate against her on the imdb boards became unbearable because apparently there can only be one female badass on POI (it was either Shaw or her....I wanted both).

    Oh how I love Root

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's been so much fun participating in this and I'm partly sad that it's over! I've looked forward to the polls each day and it's made the long summer hiatus feel a little shorter! Big thanks to Dahne for all the organization; I can only imagine how much work everything took behind the scenes!

    - Root. Partly by default as I don't watch Shameless. She's not my favourite character from the show but a vote for her is in part a vote for Person of Interest, so she gets my vote again.
    - Peggy! <3 I never thought that my nomination would ever lead her this far, but I'm thrilled about it. I love this character with such a passion that it makes me giddy to see her in the finals!

    - Metallicar. I don't watch the show anymore but I have such fond memories of the rumbling of the engine and the squeaky car door sounds. I miss that KAZ 2Y5 license plate :).
    - Enterprise. It's such a classic, from the tv shows and especially the movies.

I'll answer the TV Topic when I return home and have more time!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Personally as Long as they are consistent I don't think it makes a lot of difference to me

    ReplyDelete
  24. Root! Come on, let's break a record here!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Fight On Interface!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I personally like them following right after the previous.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So the second vote is for third place? I so remember doing this already, but it's Root and Peggy again, lol.

    Also, Metallicar and Serenity.

    ReplyDelete
  28. N/A, Peggy and the Impala.
Congratulations to the Shameless and POI fandoms. You really came out for your character. Now I can sit back with popcorn.

    TV Topic-
I really like Challonge. It was easy to use and organized. Plus it let you see others predictions to see where everyone was leaning toward.
I like the head to head polls and I really liked having the "poll within a poll" with the vehicles.
I wouldn't change a thing. I thought it ran great, had a lot of conversation with a lot of different fandoms.
I also like the round 4 exclusion idea but I don't know that doing it would keep other fandoms involved. Maybe a run-off poll? I have to think about that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I like a quick turnaround if I'm online at the time, lol. So I think that choice should be what you like.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ive been contemplating starting as well

    ReplyDelete
  31. Just peggy for me today

    ReplyDelete
  32. By now Root is an absolute favourite of mine, even though I've been a POI fan for merely six months. Nothing would make me happier than her victory in this poll.

    ReplyDelete
  33. In my opinion, the TARDIS with its 52 years (for us) and thousands and thousands of travels through time and space, and also being bigger on the inside (or smaller on the outside, depending on your point of view) beats anything else.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Come on Mickey!!! I'm so proud he's got this far. He's (in my personal opinion) one of the best created and acted characters ever. Thank you so much to everyone who has voted. And, though I've never seen POI I can see there are some huge fans here to, so good luck everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  35. While I'm not a fan of either of the characters left, I still hope it is a tight race, and I'm interested in seeing which fandom brings out the most votes.
It has been a good challenge. Usually I skip these things, but this one drew me in. I actually had characters I wanted to vote for, and even when mine when out, it was still interesting.
I really liked the vehicle mini-poll. The TARDIS is such an integral part of Doctor Who that the show literally could not exist without it - something I don't think can be said about the car from Supernatural. Here's how I see it - could they do the show without the vehicle or with something different? Doctor Who wouldn't be a show without the TARDIS, so I hope all you fans and undecideds out there turn out to vote for the TARDIS. Both Serenity and the Enterprise are great ships, but the Enterprise is more integral to the whole show. So my shameless plug is that you need to vote for the Enterprise and the TARDIS, even though I wouldn't know how to choose between them in a head to head poll.
Overall I think this was well done. I liked participating in some of the topics. I really liked how everyone played nice throughout.
i didn't participate in the prediction contest because I'm awful at predictions.
A lot of the characters I like most tend to be the supporting players and are often overshadowed by the leads. I really would like to have a contest just for unsung heroes/heroines.

    ReplyDelete
  36. What a great send off by the fans for Mickey. I love that no one thought he'd make it past the first round and now he's in the final two.

    Scully- for impact.

    TARDIS and Serenity.

  37. That's very classy of you. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yes, the second poll determines 3rdand 4th place.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "You're a brilliant woman, a comrade, and...a friend." Another great POI showing regardless of the outcome!

    Topics:
    A. I don't much like getting into predictions, though I don't have a problem with them as a facet of the contest.
    B. I like the mini-contest, and specifically the idea for a single poll. That way, there could be more poll topics, and thus more shows represented. The limiting factor could be, as suggested, that shows still in the Character Cup at that point would be ineligible.

  41. Mickey FTW. Shameless is about the only show on TV where I don't look at the clock to see how much longer it's going to be on. Ian and Mickey are my favorite part of it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I found our discussion on how different countries approach TV to be very insightful. Thanks so much for sharing. It's been great talking with you.

  43. I'm voting for my baby, of course. COME ON MICKEY, YOU CAN DO THIS!!
I'm also voting for Peggy because she's a badass. Dana looks tough as well, but I haven't seen The X-Files.
    Veichle contest:
    1. Dean's baby
    2. Serenity (I haven't watched either show yet, but this one inspires me more)

    TV Talk Topic:
    A. I participated in the prediction contest... with a poor result, though! XD I liked it, I think it makes the competition more interesting and it's fun. It was pretty easy figuring out how Challonge works and I think you should use it again next year.

    B. I liked the mini-contest, it's a way to recognise something else other than the characters (Dean's Baby deserves all the love she can get! <3) I would like to see it again next year, favorite weapon would be nice. I like the contest form we used this year and I agree on the non-eligibility of the final four's shows.

    C. I loved the head-to-head polls and looking for pictures, I hope I'll get to do it again next year! I haven't used my phone for the competition, so I wouldn't know.

    D. I loved the TV Talk Topics, it gave me the opportunity to see what other people think about a lot of matters. My favorite topic was the one about our to-watch list (I'm not the only one who has an infinite list, yayyyyyyy! XD) Well, I don't know which were the old topics, but I think you should put both new and old (in a limited way). For example, you could create a poll with all of them during the nominating polls and we could choose just one of the old topics.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Whoa, Root Vs Mickey has over 3500 votes and Scully vs Agent Carter has under 700??? seems very uneven lol....

    ReplyDelete
  45. That video just made me cry! Mickey's come so far!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thanks for being such a fun participant to discuss with. I loved talking with you. Stay tuned for the Favorite Show Competition. I talked with Bradley today and he said the nominations for it start on Monday. That should keep everyone going through the rest of hiatus. On a side note, I remember the fandom woe when they changed the Impala's license plate. That's how beloved she is. I still think back on KAZ 2Y5 fondly.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well, I'm good either way.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I pretty much agree with what Toni's said about the TV Topics, so thanks for typing it out, so I don't have to :p :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks as always for being a part of it. I'm glad Challonge was easy to use. I like the program and hope to use it next year. It is cool to see who predicted what. The thing I was going to direct message you about last weekend is the possibility of turning the TV Talk Topics into a podcast. I have a new laptop now and I still need to find better sound recording equipment for it but once I get it up and running, I'd love for you to be a part of it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Mickey was a recurring in S1-2, and he wasn't a great character then, but he had an amazing evolution throughout the series. In S3-4 he was great and in S5 he was simply phenomenal.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Mickey (!!!!), Peggy and Serenity.

    TV Talk Topic:

    1. Since I wasn't familiar with or had never heard of so many characters in the contest I didn't make any predictions. The only prediction I really had is that none of my nominations would get very far, I'm so glad Mickey proved me wrong!

    2. I loved the mini-contest. It was a really fun addition. I agree that a show still the contest shouldn't be eligible, but then a problem might arise where characters from a show make it that far every year and aren't eligible each year. They could still be talked about in the comments though so I'm still for it. As for some ideas maybe a favourite TV villain and favourite supernatural creature.

    3. The only drawback I thought there was to the head-to-head polls was it meant a lot more scrolling, especially when there were more polls, but it's only a small thing that doesn't bother me either way since it was a lot easier to spot who i wanted to vote for by picture instead of reading each one.

    4. I loved the TV Talk Topis, my favourite part of the contest. I can't really pick a favourite but I really loved the relationship topics, the watchlist topic and the spin-off/reboot topic. I did this last year as well and I think bringing back some old topics would be a good idea since a lot of the answers might change after people see new shows, drop some shows and/or their shows change a lot since last time.

Thanks for doing all this Dahne, it's been a lot fun :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm glad you liked them and thanks for bringing your perspective to the topics. I learned a lot about British TV through this and Pitch Your Show. I appreciate all you had to do with that. It's nice to see these shows gaining popularity here.

  53. The TARDIS & Firefly for me.

Cheers for running this Dahne, I have really enjoyed taking part and chatting with others in the comments too. :)

Root all the way! Come on let's win this!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Root was the reason I started watching POI in the first place. But you can't judge a show or character by imdb boards.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm glad you participated in the contest and even more that you've enjoyed it even once your favorites were gone. While I'm voting for the Impala, I do honestly understand why the TARDIS is so amazing too. I'm a fan of both. I also like the Enterprise and would have found it hard to choose between it and the TARDIS had it come to that. It was great getting to know you better through the discussions and thanks so much for joining us. I agree that once the contest actually got started, people did a great job of promoting their shows without belittling people and that's always better. I'm not very good at predictions either but for me it is fun. I hope you try it next year. Also, secondary characters would make for a great mini-contest topic. It's one of the subjects we ran out of time to discuss in TV Talk Topics this year but we are definitely going to explore that subject next year. I'm like you in that I tend to like the secondary characters more than the leads.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Thanks for participating in the contest. We probably would not have several polls if we went that way. Definitely one, possibly two but it's too much work going through the nominating process to do more than that.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I was fine with the way the competition took place this time. If it would be any other way it ould take forever. So the current mode is perfectly fine.

    ReplyDelete
  60. It's been great talking with you also. I've enjoyed hearing about people's opinions in the TV Talk Topics too and getting to know people a little better through them.

  63. Thanks for always participating. It has been great fun listening to your thoughts and discussing them. You make an excellent point about the topics we have already done. Plus most people, including me for some of them, didn't remember what topics we had covered last year anyway. :-) Of course I also completely forgot to add crossovers to the spin-off/reboot topic so take that for what it's worth. I was concerned with how much space the head-to-head polls take up, especially with time to load and scrolling. I'm glad the pictures helped at least. I love the idea of favorite TV villain. That would be awesome. I think that might be our next topic. I'm putting both down in my notes. Thanks again for all your participation. I do appreciate it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. You're welcome ;) Payback for all the Banshee goodies you spoil us with.

    ReplyDelete
  65. It really is extremely close between Root and Mickey. I hope Root wins but if she doesn't, well, can't say we didn't try! Go Root!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Oh I would love that! Thank you. Just let me know the ins and outs and I can be ready.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ha! I think most of us did far worse at our predictions than we thought we would. It certainly was an unpredictable contest. I'm glad Challonge worked well for you. I was hoping it did because I really love not having to keep track of the results by hand. Favorite weapon was one of my favorite polls we did when I used to run Supernatural polls every summer. Personally I am a fan of the pearl-handled pistol but sawed off shotgun works too. And yes, Baby deserves all the love. :-)

Thank you so much for getting all those pictures for the contest. I was feeling overwhelmed by the prospect and you guys took all that burden off. I really appreciate you. The to-watch topic was fun but I think it ended up adding to my list instead of taking things away. :-P I love that you participated in all the topics and enriched the discussion. It was awesome hearing your thoughts. I do agree that a mix of old and new topics may be the way to go. We had some great discussion on character development and TV pet peeves that I loved last year. Thanks again for all you did in the contest.

  68. I had so much fun during this character cup. I really enjoyed discussing the TV topics with everyone. Thanks again, Dahne, for organizing this!

  69. Voting...
Character: NA for the finals, Peggy for 3rd/4th place
Vehicle: this was hard! But in the end, I went with the icons that will likely outlive me: TARDIS & Enterprise

    Wrap Up:
    A. Loved Challonge! It was so easy to use and allowed me to follow my progress, as well as everyone else easily. The prediction contest is as much fun as the regular contest - wholeheartedly endorse both for next year.

    B. Also loved the mini-contest and would like to see it return next year. Was fun to have something else to vote for once many of my characters ere knocked out of the running. I think the exclusions may or may not apply based on the topic of the contest. For example, there really isn't a vehicle with POI so even though Root is killing it in the Character Cup, the mini-contest wasn't effected by it. However, if it was favorite pet/companion animal - I'm sure Bear would benefit from it. As for ideas for a new contest well...could do vehicles again (with the winner form this year being ineligible to be nominated next year just like the CC), pets/companion animals (legit animals, not werewolves), catch phrase or favorite quote (this would be a nominations nightmare though), or something like super mini-contests but have multiple categories (like the eight top nominated opening sequences, stunts, costumes, etc - basically, like the TV Talk Topics from yesterday). Hmmm, I could probably think of more over the next year :-)

    C. I like the head to head polls but they do take longer to load on my phone - although that could be because I am usually linking to the article from Twitter (no app, sad iPhone user here). Once everything loads the head to head photos look much better. As in, I can actually see them. That being said, I always do all my commenting/voting from my laptop so it's a horse a piece either way to me.

    D. Really enjoyed this years TV Talk Topics. My favorite was the Watchlist one. That one could be fund to do each year as everyone's likely changes (at least mine does). Otherwise, you could always have a vote during the nomination phase of all the topics you've accumulated over the next year and pick the ones with the highest votes while the remaining get carried over to the next year. Just a thought :-)

Overall - this has been so much fun! The discussions have been great and many of the races were so close, I found my self checking the polls multiple times during the day (shhh, boss doesn't need to know that).

    ReplyDelete
  70. I like the polls as done. I participated in voting for both the main and mini contest and TV Talk Topics and enjoyed both. I was late in participating though (only the last few days) because of real life. ha

  71. I vote Root.

  72. This Competition has been so great to watch. There's very little recognition for Mickey outside the fandom so seeing him rise through the contest has been uplifting. Especially after the show put him and us fans through the ringer this past season! He is my favorite character because his evolution from an angry closeted thug to a loving (albeit still grumpy) partner has been amazing to watch.

I also just want to say I've been lurking the comments all week and you guys (especially POI people) have been so positive and warm despite the competitive atmosphere. So thank you! You're enthusiasm is contagious and I'm Adding all these shows to my queue now!

    Good luck to all!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I second the favorite weapon! I heard today that Colt went into Bankruptcy protection - my little SPN heart weeps.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Usually white weapons are my favorites, but I also love shotguns and pistols (especially the colt from Supernatural). I ended up adding more shows on my never ending watchlist as well, but that's why I liked it. Character development is what I value most in a show, so I'm definitely up for that! I'm already looking forward to the next Characters Cup, it was a lot of fun and I loved everything about it. Thanks again for making all this possible, you're awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Oh yea, I vote for pet peeves returning...I'm pretty sure I developed some new ones this last year ;-)

  76. What?!? Oh no, poor Colt T.T

  77. My votes:

    1. Samantha "Root" Groves
    2. Peggy Carter

    TV Vehicle Polls:

    1. TARDIS
    2. Serenity

  78. I love that at times, Root acts as the moral compass. When Finch was disenchanted with the Machine, Root pulled him back. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ix1p2C0SjqY Just shows how far she's come, from being a villain to being a team member.

I hope there's not cheating going on because a lot of people are trying to vote for Root and getting messages saying their votes were intercepted and that they wouldn't go through.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I also liked the quick turnaround personally, it's really been helpful with something to help with the hiatus blues, September seems so far away, the competitions have helped greatly, can't say it enough this has been done flawlessly, great job!!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. I like the idea of "Favorite TV Animal" :D. I can think of a couple animals I could nominate for that list, definitely. I'll have to mull over a few more ideas for mini-contest topic ideas, 'cause I do think that'd be a fun thing to have as part of the competitions. I also think it'd be fair to keep the mini-contest reserved for shows that aren't still in the running in the main competition.
I love the TV topics, and I'm all for that continuing. As for repeating, I understand that-on the upside, newcomers could have a chance to discuss those topics, but on the other hand, I understand wanting to keep things new and fresh, too. Unless there's a way to bring back old topics but put new spins on them? Like with the friendship discussion, for instance, if that comes up again, maybe compare how friendships are handled in dramas versus comedies? Or the way certain friendships are portrayed (for example, some have a real mocking element to them, to where you might wonder why the characters are even friends in the first place, but someone can explain why that sort of friendship works), or something like that? I dunno.
Didn't participate in the prediction contest this year, simply 'cause I'm crap at predicting things :p (though, looking at the results of this contest, I might actually have done all right overall, oddly enough). But maybe I'll give it a try next go-round.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Are they trying to vote more than once? You can only vote once in this contest. Other than that, they should be able to vote just fine.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thanks for all your participation in this contest. I loved discussing with you. The twists on old topics is an interesting idea. I might actually put it to a vote during the nominating stages next year to see what people would like to do. I do hope that you will try the prediction contest next year. If it's anything like this one was you could basically flip a coin the way through and do better than I did this year. :-P Thanks for thinking of ideas for the mini-contest. People seem to like it so I think it will be back next year.

  99. You're awesome too. I am looking forward talking all kinds of TV with you next year. It was a lot of fun. Plus, there's still the Favorite Show competition. Nominations start on Monday and I know there will be a lot of great discussion about shows there too.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I think pet peeves were most people's favorite topic last year. There's something cathartic about kvetching on the things you most dislike in TV with other sympathetic people.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Thank you for all your participation. It was great talking TV with you. I'm glad you had fun.

    ReplyDelete
  102. My problem is that my real-life friends and family have sucky taste in TV (mostly reality junk) so I require the great people here at SpoilerTV to have true TV conversations with instead of which hottie didn't get a rose.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I know not many people have heard of Shameless or watched it past the first season, but the Shameless fandom is requesting backup. We're dedicated in voting for Mickey Milkovich, one of the fandom's most beloved characters and half of the show's most beloved romantic pairing (Ian & Mickey, commonly referred to as Gallavich). We were recently informed that Mickey will no longer be a part of Shameless in upcoming season six. We're both heartbroken & enraged, which is why this isn't just some silly fan award we want him to win. This is to prove a point. We want the Shameless writers to know that they've made a grave mistake in writing off this character. And we want to shove it in their faces for spoiling something that a lot of fans were deeply invested in. We want the actor who played Mickey (Noel Fisher) to know just how much we love & appreciate all he's done, & that his work did not & will not go unnoticed.

I'm sure you all know the feeling of a pairing you loved being unfairly broken off, or a character being written off who was so important you lost hope for the entire show. So if you wouldn't mind helping a fandom out, please spread the word & Vote for Mickey Milkovich. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I am so glad Challonge worked for everyone. It really made things easier so hopefully more people will join the prediction contest next year. (And hopefully I'll do better - :D) I am planning on doing a title sequence mini-contest at some point because that would be super easy. I like the idea of taking the, straight from the previous TV topic because that could keep us going for years. :-) Best stunts would work very well. I actually chose TV Vehicle over TV Animals because I thought it would make it less likely that the top contendors would be in it. I just didn't think of a horse as a vehicle so that kind of stopped me. Still Root's motorcycle was very close to getting in too.

Load time was one of my biggest worries about going to a head-to-head format. I know that it has to be rough especially in the beginning when there are so many polls. I don't really want to change that back though because then the contest is really long and people get tired. Like me. :-) I am considering doing a poll about the TV Talk Topics but I'm not sure how I want to do that yet. I do agree that watchlists make for a good yearly topic. I was concerned that people would be bored with it since we just finished Pitch Your Show but I felt like people got into it. I'm also considering making the first topic about characters that barely missed the cut each year.or possibly opening with your TV report card for the year. That was the original idea but then I switched out to the charcters instead. I like the idea of some consistency so people know what to expect if they join us each year.

Thanks so much for all the great discussion. I always love hearing your ideas about TV. I was thrilled that the races were so close too. It made what is generally the most boring part of the Character Cup for me far more exciting. And my lips are sealed when it comes to your boss. OT - how would you feel about participating in a podcast that covers the TV Talk topics? I'm looking for people who can do something on US time (probably evenings) who are interested. I still need to get some sound equipment for better quality but I think it would be cool to have a variety of people do a floating roundtable.

    ReplyDelete
  105. It has made the Cup a whole lot more fun with all these close polls.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Unless I missed it there's been no confirmation yet on if Noel will be back, and if he isn't it will be because Noel wasn't available and not the writers decision at all. But I do agree he's a great character, I'm rooting (no pun intended!) for him to win!

    ReplyDelete
  107. There's no reality show stuff on SpoilerTV, right? I feel your pain, though I do have to say that at least my friends/family watch good tv as well (I just don't happen to watch a lot of the same things. Which adds to my to watch list lol).

    ReplyDelete
  108. I know everyone is fighting for who they love but sorry this is the last time I will participate in a poll made by this organizer and perhaps even SpoilerTV. Instigating people to anti-vote was what got us here. Shameless has been anti-voting in the last 2 rounds at least and was proof on tumblr that they have been deleting telling other to vote for Scully that would be easy to win. They did the same with Beckett, everytime their vote rate increased Beckett's and Scully's did too. There is also proof of other things on twitter. This was supposed to be fun and to promote our shows and characters. For POI because it's future is uncertain for Shameless because their actor is unavailable but now it just became a joke.
Root is going to lose but spoilertv is going to lose too because they let this happen. Sorry but i think I won't be coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I don't think this is Dahne's fault it all. Dahne did a good job of ensuring the polls run smoothly and fairly. It's not an easy task, and I'm impressed with how she handled it. I've seen a few posts like these that indicate that the opposing party found a way to vote repeatedly:

However, Dahne had nothing to do with that. I don't know how so,up fans found a way to bypass the one vote per IP thing, and I doubt Dahne knows.

Anyway. Let's just try rallying more Root fans to vote. This is a large fandom, and we still have time. Team Chine, Team Europe, where you at?

    ReplyDelete
  110. She has in the sense she endorsed since the beginning the anti-voting policy. Instead of focusing in the things you like you are focusing on the things you want to take down. That only brings this type of mentality forward, that you will do anyhing in your power to get what you want.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Omg I had no idea this was going on...I did find it odd that the comments weren't reflecting the votes but I just dismissed it since there was such a large number of votes compared to number of comments.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I haven't seen anything at all that supports this. I'm sorry your favorite is not winning at the moment but she has won each of her rounds by a good margin. Now that she's struggling a bit, the other side is cheating? This doesn't sound right. Dahne has done a great job of running this contest.
Also, Dahne nor STV have anything to do with what fandoms allegedly do on Twitter or Tumblr. Support your character and get your fandom voting.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I guess POI fandom is doing fine against this http://this-aint-macys-bitch.tumblr.com/

    ReplyDelete
  114. I think Dahne is right with that, voting against a character because you don't like them should be just as valid as voting for a character because you like them. But ofc voting for a character because they'll be easier to knock out later on is something entirely different and neither Dahne nor STV have any control over who votes for who and why.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I didn't either and the more I read the angrier it makes me. This was fun. We were having a great time. This is uncalled for and childish.

    ReplyDelete
  116. If you have to cheat to win, then what's the point? I guess some people are shameless.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Root fans, let's just get more people from the POi fandom to vote. We still have time. Come on. "Keep fighting!"

    ReplyDelete
  118. Sadly the scheduling was never an issue, shameless stars filming in two weeks, and Noel finished TMNT 2 more than two weeks ago, he also doesn't have any new projects lined up so.., it was completely the writers decision, if you are waiting for an "official" confirmation you are never gonna get one, there wasn't one for laura wiggins(karen), justin chadwin(jimmy), joan cusak(sheila), or emma greenwell(mandy), i mean who knows the writers may change their mind it wouldn't be the first time(look at jimmy) but i wouldn't hold too much hope.

    ReplyDelete
  119. But how do people know he isn't coming back if there's been no announcement?

    ReplyDelete
  120. I already edited my post once I saw the texts. This is the first I've heard of it. it's wrong but it's also something Dahne had absolutely no control over.

    ReplyDelete
  121. My last post. I know it's impossible to control a whole fandom. No matter the fandom, we don't know each other at all and there are thousands out there so not judging the shameless fandom as a whole, poi or any fandom. Many here were fighting for what they love like all of us. This happens in every fandom and normally they are only a few doing it.
The problem to me is that when you organize something saying yeah vote for eliminate that in instead of vote for the show you like things get worse.
Also the number of comments don't reflect anything in terms of fandoms or the cheating, because I for once never commented because i didn't like what Dahne said at the beginning. Others don't want to use they users here or don't have disqus.
Root will lose but I don't mind. I can live with it.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Same here :p. Got called in to work yesterday and I was kind of tired and blech the last couple days. But perhaps at some point if the conversations in older threads are still going strong I might pop in and share a thought or two.

  123. I just read a few of the tumblr posts, it just reminded me of why I left that site, it's so intense all the time. I voted for Mickey but if he wins it won't be as satisfying now :/ Still though this was never supposed to be taken seriously so I'm not that down about it, it was always the discussions I looked forward to anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Root fans, we will win this no matter what way they are using. Our international fans will take the battle over night! Keep fighting!

    ReplyDelete
  125. You're welcome :)! I enjoyed chatting with you, too. I just hope I didn't talk your ear off too much about my favorite shows, LOL.
Thanks! Yeah, getting some input from voters and commenters would be a great idea, get them that much more hyped up to talk about certain topics a bit more in depth. You seem pretty good at knowing how to run these competitions, so I trust whatever decisions you make will be good and add to the fun of the competition :D.
Haha, pretty much! Obviously I'd have loved to see a character from one of my shows make it this far, but hey, they fought a good fight, and this batch of characters is a very worthwhile bunch and worthy of making it this far. And I love that it's a heavily female-dominated round to boot! Congrats to the fans of these characters-best of luck to all of you in the final battles!
I'm glad the response to the mini-contest has been positive. Yeah, I'll let you know what ideas I come up with.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Why hasn't Mickey Milkovich been disqualified? The shameless fandom is all over tumblr bragging about how they're using Tor browser to vote hundreds of times for Mickey. This character cup is rigged :/

  128. Exactly. We had some really great discussions and a lot of fun.
Those posts were insulting on so many levels.
We were all applauding the fandom for Mickey but now, I can only smh. I'm sorry for you because I saw you were really proud that he made it this far. I was pulling for him because of that.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Don't act like the POI fandom isn't doing the exact same thing right now?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Seconding this. It's been fun :).

    ReplyDelete
  131. I had said it was my last post but only saw this now. I'm not saying she is directly responsible. She wasn't the one saying go vote against that one or that one. But the problem is when you put it out there like that people will interpret it as they seem fit.
And like I said before not judging a whole fandom for what a few did... because I know that the majority were probably fighting for something they believe like I was for POI because I don't want it to be the last season, so our goal was more the people/fans here than TPTB. We wanted to recruit viewers. But I see you are in other fandoms probably and you know that there are always a few that mess up. Doesn't mean the whole fandom has to pay for it.
    So I'll leave it to.

    ReplyDelete
  132. That's a really pretty wedding dress.

  137. I'd be cool with pet peeve discussion again, too. I'm generally more easygoing with TV shows than I think many fans tend to be, but that doesn't mean I don't have my gripes and peeves about certain things TV shows do :D.

    ReplyDelete
  138. If Mickey fans were doing it, others probably were too, and now that it's out there I'd imagine both fandoms are at it.

    ReplyDelete
  139. All fandoms do it. It's impossible that those nearly 20k votes are all unique. However, as long as there is no botting going on, it should be ok. The POI fandom is huge in Asia and they're all awake and voting right now. Pretty sure they're going to secure the lead as fast as the Shameless fandom did before.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I agree. It's more suspenseful.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Oh yeah. The kind of honest voting that gets you 1k in five minutes. Give me a break lol. It's whatever, though. The Shameless fandom will prevail.

    ReplyDelete
  142. My problem is that most of the shows I watch nobody else has even heard of, or it's not their sort of thing. I don't know anyone else offline who likes "Community", or is familiar with "Spaced" or "Strangers with Candy", and people might know about "Twilight Zone", but most people my age and younger wouldn't really sit and watch a show like that 'cause it's "old" and stuff.
"Criminal Minds" is about the only one I can connect with other people about (my best friend introduced me to it). Even then, though, I'm more likely to get involved in in depth fandom discussion about it online than I am with any of the people I know offline.

    ReplyDelete
  143. You all prevailed in making yourselves look very childish and simply put, bad. Nothing about this paints Mickey, Shameless or the fans in a positive light. So continue to "prevail."

    ReplyDelete
  144. The POI fandom has literally resorted to using a votebot? At least we worked for our multitude of INDIVIDUAL votes?

    ReplyDelete
  145. I gave up on the poll as soon as I watched Mickey gaining 500 votes in 2 minutes and then going from 46% to 53% in less than 20 minutes. No wonder they beat Outlander.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Shameless fans were... actually, shameless, laughing at POI fans on Twitter. So while usually Chinese fandom is not that active they are pissed off now. And Chinese Weibo alone is bigger than Twitter.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I voted for Amy Acker (sorry, I know she is not her character, but I don't watch either show) If Amy puts the same amount of just natural charisma and skill as she did for Fred/Illyria into this role, than Root must be awesome. And chicks that kick ass have my vote, I will vote Peggy (my nominee made it this far!) for third.

    The Tardis and Serenity too.

I didn't participate last year, I think I may have stumbled onto the end when I discovered this site through an early Outlander article. I liked this voting set up, keeps it interesting but I can't compare it to last time.

I nominated (I am 99% sure anyways, I didn't write it down and I went back and forth with a couple choices) Jaime Fraser, Henry Morgan, Buffy Summers, Peggy Carter. I think they did pretty good!

I didn't participate in the predictions. I totally intended to, remembered at the last minute and couldn't do it in time. Oh well because I was way off on a lot.

I thought the mini poll was fun, no dislikes on this but I did like the idea of having a separate animal supporting player mini poll.

I didn't participate in all the discussions, I had more time in the beginning. I have had a crappy last few days but I really enjoyed getting on here and making sure I atleast voted, even though I was super bummed on Monday because that was the. Worst. Day. Ever.

  148. just because a few people are doing it, doesn't mean every fan is doing it, what does a 1k raise in five minutes say about the POI fans then?, i smell a votebot.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I think enough proof has been presented to show that Mickey fans were voting more than once :/ But Toni is right, nobody is coming out of this looking good now, including POI fans. But we shouldn't be discussing it anyway, there's still no need for us to start attacking each other here.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Hahaha you're not alone that is voting for Amy and not Root, I saw some whedonesque fans do it too xD

    ReplyDelete
  151. Looks like our wonderful international fanbase has woken up. Thanks Team China and Team Europe. Hope you can recruit more POI fans to hold the lead. I'm going to bed.

    ReplyDelete
  152. The POI fandom is proving nothing by cheating with a votebot. Shameless fans went out of their way to vote /uniquely/ (albeit multiple times, we still had to work for it instead of essentially hacking the poll & moving up by thousands of votes in a matter of minutes the way that the POI fandom is doing right now) People went without sleep, dedicated entire days to this. That shows something. Dedication and passion. We as a fandom were trying to show the writers that they'd made a massive mistake in writing Mickey off in last season's finale, trying to show Noel Fisher who played him how upset we are to see him go. We weren't being purposely spiteful the way the POI fandom is, it literally had and still has nothing to do with Root.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Don't be such a sore loser. Ever heard of pot calling the kettle black? When Mickey took the lead, the EXACT SAME THING happened, and Root had a much bigger lead then. It is virtually impossible that it was gained with individual votes, sorry. If you want to accuse someone else of cheating, take a good look in the mirror first. While you and your buddies may have voted fair and square, there is literally proof it wasn't the case with everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Still though this was never supposed to be taken seriously so I'm not
that down about it, it was always the discussions I looked forward to
    anyway.

Totally agreed; I think the comments are at least as important as the votes, and that people seem to be focusing too much on winning. I can only speak for POI, but I know it's drawing some attention just from the show of support. That, and just having an outlet to share enthusiasm with other fans, is enough of a win for me.

    ReplyDelete
  155. We as a fandom were trying to show the writers that they'd made a
massive mistake in writing Mickey off in last season's finale, trying to
show Noel Fisher who played him how upset we are to see him go.

Seems like a rather oblique (and certainly unsportsmanlike) approach. Why not appeal to the cast/crew/studio directly? I know POI fans (myself included) have done so to show support, to CBS, WB, Netflix, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  156. you are really not helping....there is proof now that both party's were cheating, well this sucks i really wanted mickey to win :/, but... nimodo gana la tipica asesina "cool", ja! que ironia que gane una haker.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Aw you act like the POI fandom is just sitting back, smoking a cigarette and "hacking the poll" whenever they lose the lead. How condescending is it that only the fandom you're a part of is the dedicated and passionate one? Do you think the POI fandom have nothing to fight for when the show is at the verge of being cancelled? When Sarah Shahi (Shaw, Root's significant other on the show) is going to make a sacrifice, having twin babies, to shoot a couple of episodes this season so the fans can hopefully get closure and a satisfying ending? When fans rally followers on Twitter so cast and crew notice a poll and give us a hand or at the very least acknowledge it like they did so many times in the past? How incredibly sweet. How about you tell me more about how the Shameless fandom is the only one deserving of a win here because they're so much more dedicated and have so much more to fight for than everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Do you honestly think that we haven't done that already? This was our last resort.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Root for me =) Would love to see our Queen take it. and would love to see Peggy take third. Thanks for running this! Its been awesome, some rounds i wouldn't of guessed, actually i didn't do very well at the predictions at all!

    ReplyDelete
  160. 21k votes? What?!?

    ReplyDelete
  161. Okay but I never denied that? I said that the Shameless fandom went out of their way to build up votes for Mickey. That's what I said.

    ReplyDelete
  162. people have already done that, sadly the writers/producers don't care, some of the writers/producers went as far as to mock the fans, the funny thing is that most people voting for mickey are no longer shameless fans(myself included) they just wanted to show the actor a nice gesture, guess people took the wrong approach, but at least they are really passionate

    ReplyDelete
  163. At this rate, it's going to hate 50k before the poll closes.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I don't believe in that. Team China is big but not _that_ big.

    ReplyDelete
  165. So many people voting,it's awesome to say the least.

    ReplyDelete
  166. I'm sure the Shameless fandom is going to take the lead again. And the POI fandom is going to strike back. So on and so fourth.

    ReplyDelete
  167. You guys already did great by going this far. Even if you win this, I very much doubt it's going to bring your favourite character back. That's just not how it works, unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  168. i meant the implication that "shameless fans are better than POI fans because we are more "honest" with our cheating

    ReplyDelete
  169. From the rules: "This contest is meaningless. The results are meaningless. It will NOT
change the fate of any TV show anywhere. Don't take it seriously. Have
    fun. Discuss a lot."
"One vote per person per poll."

    ReplyDelete
  170. we know is not gonna bring our favorite back, it just a poll we get that,we know, like i said it was supposed to be a gesture to the actor(who is a really nice guy and really loved and understood the character) and to show the writers that even is they don't care we still do, mickey was a fan favorite, and they wrote him off in the most disrespectful(and homophobic tbh)way possible.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Proof? I've seen evidence that one fandom was behaving like a naughty child and another fandom reacted.
You don't see many asian fans here, they really rarely leave regional social networking and web. But after they've seen all the crap some Shameless fans were doing... You know how to motivate people!
I'm part of European fandom. It's mostly early morning here, but as soon as people wake up they will be here too. While usually most would just ignore "another poll".
When Mickey won over Jamie I was so surprised, and I'm sure some people thought POI fans had something to do with it. But now everything is clear.
And yes, you can talk about bots all you want if it makes you feel warmer. I think our Chinese friends are getting used to that disrespect.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Except I never said anything to indicate that, and you're the one being needlessly condescending? lol Did you not see the line in my comment "it literally had and still has nothing to do with Root"? Look, it's obvious that your fandom has been using automated voting by the sheer number of votes that have been gained in the last hour or so, I don't care how big its Chinese fanbase is, it's not possible to do so honestly, so you don't get to crucify us for cheating when you're no better, end of. Do you honestly think that by spewing a bunch of rhetorical questions at me about a show and fandom I don't at all care about, you've somehow negated everything I just said?
The bottom line is I could not possibly care any less about POI, its fandom, what you have to tell me about the show, or Root. From what you just said about it, all I have to say is Good, at least you people are actually getting some closure and a satisfying ending, neither of which we got for Mickey Milkovich before he was haphazardly and unfairly written off. We worked to vote for Mickey because he deserved it, how the hell else do you think he rose from 55th to 2nd place? The Shameless twitter fandom rallied and recruited cast members just as much. And we'll continue to vote until the poll's over and done with, because we clearly have got the most to fight for, otherwise we wouldn't have fought this hard or made it this far.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I didn't imply that it was more "honest", only that our methods took a lot more work than simply using a votebot.

    ReplyDelete
  174. oh wow, just reading seems comments :( I shared the poll in my work place for the first time today, hoping that I could get everyone at my work to vote for Root, haha they know I'm a crazy Person of Interest fan. There are like 400 staff alone in the building I work at, and then there all the other sites over the region, I work in government so it could of even gone nationwide which would of been awesome!!

As a Person of Interest fan all I can say is that I hope that our fandom has stayed true as we are strong and very lucky because we do have such a huge international fan base. I think we have, as all I have seen is shock and frustration at this.

I just want to thank Dahne for running this, as I said in a earlier post its been great and I really appreciate you taking the time and all the effort you have put to it.

    ReplyDelete
  175. "Except I never said anything to indicate that"

Um, yes, yes, you did. You are accusing one fandom of cheating while using the pity card and making it all about yourself.

" Look, it's obvious that your fandom has been using automated voting by the sheer number of votes that have been gained in the last hour or so, I don't care how big its Chinese fanbase is, it's not possible to do so honestly, so you don't get to crucify us for cheating when you're no better, end of."
Pot calling the kettle black again? YOU'RE the one who did that. I did nothing but set you straight. If you're so sleep deprived, perhaps you should take a nice nap, come back and read your comment again and realize how nonsensical and condescending you are.

"[...] because we clearly have got the most to fight for, otherwise we wouldn't have fought this hard or made it this far." Honey, you just proved my point and invalidated yours. Congrats. Want a medal now?

    ReplyDelete
  176. yikes, im not even gonna get into a discussion,i still want mickey to win but i think both fandoms are dedicated and have strong reasons for wanting their favorite to win, and hey at least you guys are getting closure/satisfying ending(im not being sarcastic or condescending, im honestly happy for you, i wish we could have gotten that, we got the most disrespectful ending you can possible imagine)

    ReplyDelete
  177. Except that you did. You are trying to play victim and told a sad little story about how your fandom needs this while implying that the POI fandom hacked the poll when "People went without sleep, dedicated entire days to this. That shows something. Dedication and passion." Please. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to put 2 and 2 together here and I don't think you realize how problematic your comment is. And this is coming from someone who is not a fan of either show.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Let me just say this. If POI were boting and knew how to do it, they would have done it before. They wouldn't be doing something like that when cheating accusations appeared. What? The fandom just stopped and said "In the middle of all the confusion lets make it evident that we are cheating using bots." That doesn't make sense, you guys multivoted and gained lots in 20 minutes sometimes less, were you using bots too?
I would say to POI fans not to vote or promote the poll more. We don't need that. Just stop and move on.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Closure/satisfying ending is still up for debate as the show can get cancelled by CBS and we're left with an open/very much unsatisfying ending. It's all up in the air right now which is why every little thing we do is important.

And yeah, I feel ya. Had my share of being jerked around and disrespected by showrunners. I know how frustrating it can be.

    ReplyDelete
  180. At this point, I'd disqualify both Shameless and POI. Then I would have a one day run off vote of each character they "defeated" with another final on Friday.
This should be embarrassing for all parties that participated. It's a poll for FUN. No awards, no chance of renewal rides on this. It's nothing but petty, childish antics that are best left on the playground.
You all should be proud. You showed non-viewers, potential new viewers, why they should not bother.
Kudos to all the fandoms that did it right, had fun and didn't cry when your favorite lost out.
Sorry Andy, delete this if you need to.

    ReplyDelete
  181. I'm so irritated, it's bordering irrational. Andy would ban me if I said all that I wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  182. People just need to stop and that is it. I prefer to leave with my head high than this. Because now the fandoms are just poking each other.
POI fans you are better than this, just stop, is not worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Eh, I don't think that's fair. Assuming there was cheating, all it takes is one person. Others should not have to be punished for it because God knows I've seen fans from both fandoms losing sleep over this and the POI fandom have certainly proved what a powerhouse they are when they won that Zimbio poll fair and square. If there is a way to detect automated voted somehow (like the Zimbio poll did) then that's all it takes. Those votes would be deleted and the poll would show its actual results.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Didn't Jamie x Mickey pull over 10K and it wasn't even the semifinals? Me thinks there had to have been something sketchy there too especially when Jamie was the #2 character most nominated and Mickey was #55 or something. Suddenly Mickey is whopping their asses with a juggernaut number of votes?

    ReplyDelete
  185. I'm so sure POI is clear that would gladly agree to any checking of automated votes. It was actually me who approached Chinese fandom and asked for help. So I know what I'm talking about. On Zimbio poll we got same accusations when Chinese fans help us out in very quick time. And zimbio admins checked and confirmed that our fandom is clear.

    ReplyDelete
  186. They're both guilty of cheating. They just used different methods. According to them. Neither one deserves to win.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Where is the evidence that POI fans are cheating? We've proven that Shameless fans have cheated, but I haven't seen any concrete evidence that even remotely suggests that POI fans have cheated. You want to know how POI fought back and gained a massive lead over the last few hours? It's simple. Our enormous international fanbases in China and Europe woke up and started voting. Plus, we all rallied hard on Twitter and shared the daylights out of this poll. The fact that some POI fans were actually stalked and harassed by a few bad apple Shamless fans was also a motivator to rally.
