2015 Character Cup - Final Four

22 Jul 2015

Whew! Round 4 was all kinds of excitement with the Jamie vs. Mickey poll close until the end. Not only that but the poll smashed the record for number of people voting this year with 14,068 votes. Mickey, Root, and Jamie also smashed the individual vote records with 7194, 7013, and 6874 votes respectively. Thanks to all fans who participated and made the polls so interesting. Going into the final four we have Samantha "Root" Groves, Dana Scully, Mickey Milkovich, and Peggy Carter. Also don't forget the TV Vehicle contest below. Continuing on in that one are Metallicar (Dean's Baby), Lola, the TARDIS, Donas, Serenity, the General Lee, the Batmobile, and the Enterprise. Finally, if you are interested in having a special poll for 3rd and 4th place, let me know in the comments below. Until then, happy voting!

Prediction Cup Update - Again Perrin retains the lead, looking good for a victory. Challenging Perrin are Idahoow in second and Wired Wizard in third. Nice work, guys. You are the kings of predicting in a contest that has been very close. Awesome!

Today's TV Talk Topic:

TV Talk Topic: Special thanks to Robert Fruin, XMan, and Emma for inspiring this topic.

TV Show Extensions - All shows leave a legacy to their fans but some shows take on a life of their own, often creating new shows or getting rebooted from the past. Do you like spin-offs and reboots? What are your favorites and least favorites? What shows would you create a spin-off for and which characters or story ideas would you use? What shows would you like to get rebooted? Are there any shows you would rather NOT EVER be rebooted? Do reboots diminish originals or bring new audiences to cult classics (XMAN)? If you could bring back a show intact (meaning same cast in the same roles), which one would it be? Are you interested in any of the proposed spin-offs and reboots in the works?

Vehicle Contest:

This is just an experimental contest to see if people like the idea. I haven't done a contest-within-a-contest before so it may work well or it may not. We'll revisit it on Thursday to see if people like it or not. Basically the rules are the same as the Character Cup in that it's 1 vote per IP, about 24 hours to vote, and winner moves on. On Thursday, we will crown the winners as Best TV Vehicle, either past or current. There will not be a run-off between them because we won't have time. If you have any questions, let me know in the comments below.

Mickey fans had a traumatic season, and he's probably never coming back to the show. Showing our love through voting is about the only thing we have left. :)

What a run by Mickey! I love Shameless but never expected to see him in the final four. Well done Shameless fandom!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Congrats to Shameless fans for what you accomplished, you should be very proud. Never thought this would happen. However, sadly, for today we will be playing on different sides as your character is going up against the person I want to win it all, Peggy Carter. May the best character win, but both have already accomplished a great deal, getting to the top 4 and defeating many other in theory stronger contestants!

I am also voting for Root on the first one.

So I love Scully, she was the first BadAss and she rocked my world for years to come but for the last two seasons Root's has rocked my world almost every week.

Now Scully might not approve or agree on the ways Root goes about things but think she would admire Root..even if its from afar.

I also voted for Serenity and Enterprise!

  29. Wow, I've gone from being down in 60 something place to 23rd, what a roller-coaster the predictions game has been this time round! I've voted for Scully and Mickey - the X-Files was a great show (at tomes) and I'm looking forward with trepidation at what's to come, I've not seen either of the other two but videos from the fans have piqued my interest throughout this competition and I've filled a coin, sorry Peggy.

TARDIS, Serenity & Batmobile in the vehicles today, all three are pretty awesome, but the TARDIS is the best of the lot!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Only seen a few POIs and I believe they were before Root was introduced, unfamiliar with Scully except for when she was on The Simpsons. I'll leave that one of the fans. I vote Mickey since Shameless is my favorite show of all time.

Also voted against General Lee because of the confederate flag, and for the batmobile.

    TV Talk Topic

Do you like spin-offs and reboots?
Yup, there's always more story to tell and different ways to tell it.

What are your favorites and least favorites?
Favouties: Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Star Trek: Voyager
Least Favourite: The Originals, The Flash, Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: DS9, Star Trek: TNG

What shows would you create a spin-off for and which characters or story ideas would you use?
The 100: So much spin-off potential! Grounder spin-off, ark spin-off, a spin-off about survivors elsewhere on the planet, a spin-off about the events leading to the apocalypse.
OUAT: Even more spin-off potential! Neverland spin-off, Oz spin-off, Arendelle spin-off, origins of magic spin-off, horror themed spin-off (Halloweenland?), Camelot spin-off, Author spin-off, the list goes on.
There are other spin-offs I've wanted over the years like a kitsune spin-off from Teen Wolf but I don't watch it anymore so i've lost interest. One I'd love, and one I'd watch is when Teen Wolf ends, a spin-off where the existence of supernatural creatures is public and there's a war between humans and supernaturals.
I also really liked the back door pilot for the Supernatural Bloodlines spin-off, disappointed it never happened.

What shows would you like to get rebooted?
I'm never opposed to more Stargate but that's already getting a movie reboot. I was looking forward to the Charmed reboot as well, I was disappointed it didn't happen. There are probably a lot I'd love I just don't know it because I never saw or heard of the original.

Are there any shows you would rather NOT EVER be rebooted?
Nope, bring em on. Although some would have a tough time doing a better job, Battlestar Galactica for example, the re-imagined version would be really tough to beat.

Do reboots diminish originals or bring new audiences to cult classics?
I think they bring in new people. I never understood why people say reboots ruin the original, I mean the original is still there to be watched and enjoyed by those who love it, nothings changed there. Take Xena for example, I didn't like the original but I could end up loving a reboot since I like the premise.

If you could bring back a show intact (meaning same cast in the same roles), which one would it be?
The Stargates, Caprica and BSG: Blood and Chrome. It still bothers me to this day that such rich and well thought out stories were never fully told.

Are you interested in any of the proposed spin-offs and reboots in the works?

Surprisingly no. There are so many in the works and I'm not interested in a single one!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't care about any of the characters that ended up in the final four. I wish all of you still voting.
I'm more interested in the vehicle contest. Still want the final to be between the Tardis and the Enterprise.
The problem with reboots is that they may or may not live up to the origninal - most don't. One that worked for me was the Battlestar Galactica. Also, I've liked all the incarnations of Star Trek except for Enterprise, and I would like a new Star Trek series that removes the bad memories from that show. I've always wanted to see a serious reboot of some of the old westerns, but with more realistic portrayals than we saw on some of the shows - although if you have a chance to see the original 30 minute black and white episodes of Gunsmoke you'll see a very different type of show than what most folks remember from the 60's and 70s.
I love NCIS, which I know is a spin-off of the show J.A.G., which I never watched. In turn NCIS has had two spin-offs, one I don't much care for (the LA one), and one I'm holding out hope for still (the New Orleans one). Never really liked any of the CSI spin-offs (and had stopped watching the original a long time ago. I actually liked Law & Order, but got tired of the SVU spin-off, and stuck with the Criminal Intent one which was up and down. If it's a show I watch, I'll give the spin-off a chance, but it has to eventually stand on it's own merit for me to keep watching.

  40. Round 4 facts and stats are updated. Scribd bracket will be updated next.

Easiest voting day for me in this part of the contest because both are by default. Dana Scully and Peggy Carter are both kick butt women who use their brains to get things down. Scully is an icon among female characters who turned a genre on its head by being the level-headed and scientific one to a supernatural believing male partner. I also believe that she helped pave the way for more empowered female characters today. Plus she was one of the first TV characters I looked up to. Carter hasn't had time to become an icon but I'm still glad we're getting season 2. She's also breaking boundaries by being a female leader in a 40's male-driven world. Both characters exemplify Hollywood getting females right and I love how that's happening more and more these days, at least in the sci-fi and fantasy genres.

    TV Vehicle contest:

    1. Metallicar is one of my biggest TV loves so she always gets my vote. She's another kick butt female that can take the monsters and the tears. That's one strong female and she looks amazing for 48 years old.

    2. TARDIS - I am sure that Donas is a great horse but the TARDIS can take you to other worlds. That's a winning perk.

    3. General Lee - by default. I never was much of a Firefly fan and the General Lee holds a lot of fond memories for me. Since it will be my last time I get to vote for it, thanks for the memories GL.

    4. ??? - This is the tough round of the night for me. Both bring back great memories. The Batmobile was a favorite when I was still being babysat but Stand by Me pulled me into the world of Star Trek: Next Generation. Both are iconic and have their place in TV vehicle greatness. This might be a coin flip choice.

  51. TV Talk Topic, Part 1 -

In all things, it depends. Some spin-offs and reboots I like very much. Most I do not. I'm actually good with the basically-in-name only spin-offs like NCIS and Law & Order franchises. They obviously work. In those situations I like or dislike them based on the new characters. For instance, I enjoyed CSI: Cyber last year unlike most people but I couldn't get into NCIS: NO, which surprised me because I like Scott Bakula. I actually liked The Finder better than Bones for awhile. Spinning off from Dawson's Creek, Young Americans is still to date my favorite trashy guilty pleasure and I haven't seen it in a decade and a half. It's amazing how many people went on to do well for themselves after that show. Looking at you, Mr. Ian Somerhalder. Personally, I think Angel is one of the best spinoffs around and I loved Star Trek: Next Generation too. Reboots are tricky because generally I don't think they are needed but some do occasionally work. I think that a good reboot can increase the love for the original too. I loved La Femme Nikita and I thought Nikita was good. By watching Nikita, I ended up rewatching La Femme Nikita as well. I don't think though that Hollywood should expect a reboot to be as loved as a classic. They also need to let a lot of time pass between the old and the reboot. Generally it's the movies that make this mistake more though. I know I have plenty of shows I would like to bring back intact but currently my brain is on vacation and I can only think of Star-Crossed, which was far better than it should have been and left off on a cliffhanger. I am curious about the X-Files coming back though. I side eye Chris Carter pretty hard these days because I do not believe he even knows the truth that is out there but I am hopeful. Twin Peaks should be a blast. I never watched Heroes though so I'll probably leave it alone and Supergirl is hit or miss for me.

  52. TV Talk Topic, Part 2 -

    My Spin-Off Ideas:

    1. The biggest spin-off I want is for Parker, Eliolt, and Hardison (Leverage) to get their own show. They were the most fascinating part of Leverage and I think they would do very well. I'd even give money to make this happen. Kickstarter, let's do this!

    2. Jenny, Irving, and Hawley (Sleepy Hollow) makes their own Warehouse-13 like show, searching for dangerous artifacts and everyone is happily kick butt together.

    3. Mama Grimm and Trubel (Grimm) take down bad guys and actually show some kick butt action. Yes, I love they would have to resurrect Mama Grimm but it would be worth it. If they took Wu along for the ride, so much the better. I really want to see Mama Grimm teaching Trubel how to be awesome like her.

    4. Mozzie and Neal (White Collar) take on Europe and win. Yes, it would be a big bummer not having Peter, El, June, Diana, and Jones on it but I's sacrifice to get Mozzie back on my screen

    5. Lydia, Derek, and Stiles (Teen Wolf) open their own supernatural detective agency. Hey, it worked for Angel. I can work here.

    6. Troy (Community) on his extended vacation with LeVar Burton. I've mentioned it before but I think these two would make a great dynamic.

    7. I still want to see Grumpy Old Hunters: The Bobby and Rufus Story. I want to know what happened before the Winchesters were around and I adore these two bantering. Obviously it would have to be a prequel since they're both dead, but even better.

    8. Speaking of Supernatural, Castiel, Metatron, and all the angels go back to heaven and deal with their own darn problems, leaving earth to the humans, demons, etc.

    8. I would also love to see all the kids who were touched by the supernatural in Supernatural become their own hunting group. Not that Krissy-led fiasco of before, but actual season 1 type kids. I always wanted to know what happened to Michael from Something Wicked, Kat from Asylum, and Lucas from Dead in the Water are up to now. I want to see how their experience shaped them. Ben could regain some memories and join them too. This would also be a great way to get the other hunters into the story that we only hear about in phone calls. Except Garth and the Ghostfacers. I never need to see them again.

    9. I'd also like to see some shafted characters get their own series just because I like them better than the leads. Mostly I'm thinking Diggle (although things might have improved for him in season 3) and half a dozen other characters from Arrow, Esposito and Ryan from Castle, and Milady from The Musketeers. Zac Addy (Bones) could be a great character, solving crimes from a mental institution. Anything to get him back.

  53. You can do this Root...

    ReplyDelete
  54. 1. I haven't watched The X-Files yet and Root is one of my favorites.

    2. MICKEY ALL THE WAYYYYYYYYY!

    Veichles:
    1. Impala, always
    2. Tardis, even if I haven't watched Doctor Who yet
    3. Serenity: I haven't watched either show, but usually spaceship beats car (except Dean's baby)
    4. Enterprise: Same as #3

    TV Talk Topic:

    1. Do you like spin-offs and reboots?
It depends, if done well they could be great.

    2. What are your favorites and least favorites?
Favorites: Angel, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe, Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, Agent Carter, The Flash (this one could be considered either a spin-off or a reboot), Nikita (reboot).

Least Favorites: The Originals (I think it's better than TVD, but I'm not that fond of it), Ravenswood (it was horrible).

    3. What shows would you create a spin-off for and which characters or story ideas would you use?
OUAT: A Frozen spin-off is the one I want the most, but there are also many others ideas. I would also like to see a spin-off set under the sea... that would be nice.

OITNB: spin-off set in a male prison.

The 100: a spin-off about what happened before they went to space.

Sense8: it's too soon to tell, but a spin-off about Jonas' cluster would be interesting.

Teen Wolf: a spin-off featuring Braeden and maybe Chris hunting supernatural creatures or one featuring druids.

Revenge: a spin-off centered on Nolan helping people getting revenge.

    4. What shows would you like to get rebooted?
No one particularly, but I'll definitely watch if they make one.

    5. What shows would you like to get rebooted? Are there any shows you would rather NOT EVER be rebooted?
Can't think of anything, like I said before, if done well they could be great.

    6. Do reboots diminish originals or bring new audiences to cult classics?
No, I don't think so. They might bring new audiences and we get to see something more of our shows.

    7. If you could bring back a show intact (meaning same cast in the same roles), which one would it be?
In The Flesh: I need this right now, this show was awesome!

Dollhouse: This show was insane and it had some sort of ending with the Epitaph, but I want more.

Being Erica: The ending was perfect, but I would be nice to see more.

Stargates: I need more space shows.

    8. Are you interested in any of the proposed spin-offs and reboots in the works?
American Crime Story, Fear The Walking Dead, Damien and Shadowhunters (do they count as reboots of the movies?), Legends Of Tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  55. TV Talk Topic #3 -

Reboots and Continuations - Mostly I tend to want my favorite shows to remain reboot-less but occasionally I think there is more to the story or a show went so of course that I want it fixed.

    1. Sliders - I would love to get a reboot of this one. That show has one of the coolest concepts around and they could do great things with it. It's a perfect example of a show going serialized and killing itself. If they had NOT killed Arturo and stuck with the world of the week formula (not bad movie rip-off of the week by the way), I think it would have been far more loved in the sci-fi world than it is today.

    2. Dark Angel - Again it is a cool concept that got ruined by making the main character a whiny brat instead of a kick butt warrior. I think that in today's TV climate when the female characters are often more interesting than the male, this show could do wonders in a reboot. Plus it never got an ending. (And Jensen Ackles could make a cameo in it.)

    3. Highlander - No, not the movies. I didn't like the movies. The cheesy TV show with all the fabulous flashbacks. I'd love to see them take the same format but maybe concentrate of more than 1 immortal at a time. Maybe they are banding together to keep each other safe. I love playing around in flashback and I think this could really work.

    Continuations -

    1. Kyle XY - I always wanted to know what the Trager's were up to now.

    2. Warehouse 13 - Actually what I really want is for them to claim a cosmic do-over for the whole terrible last season. Let's all pretend someone was high as a kite while making it (like the writers) and it was all a bad fan fiction fevered dream. Then let's start over and give the show a proper ending.

    3. Mozzie and Neal (White Collar) take on Europe and win. Yes, it would be a big bummer not having Peter, El, June, Diana, and Jones on it but I's sacrifice them all to get Mozzie back on my screen.

    ReplyDelete

  61. That is a great tribute to the character. Generally shows that have ended so long ago only get through the first couple of rounds if they get in at all. I am delighted that people still remember the character fondly after so many years.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Who knows, maybe a Hexenbiest will attach Mama Grimm's head to her body and she will become a kick-ass undead Grimm.

  63. I love this the most. In the three contests prior, Kate Beckett has been the only female to make it to the final four. The first two were all male. I love seeing the tide change and so many great female characters be recognized, not just now but throughout the entire contest.

  64. Halloweenland? I'm very intrigued, how will that work and who will be the main characters?

    ReplyDelete
  65. A Different World was a great spin-off. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like it because Denise wasn't a favorite. Then they focused on the other characters like Dwayne and I really enjoyed it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Nice bump up. Congrats. I am still freefalling, but it's made the Cup so much more fun. I feel the same way about The X-Files. I'm cautiously, optimistically worried because Chris Carter can create some great stuff but he's also one of the biggest disappointments of my TV obsessed fan life. I am with you on the TARDIS...until it comes against Metallicar and then the gloves come off. :-P

  67. OUaT Wonderland reminds me that I want a spin-off with just Will and the Red Queen. They were snarky delciious fun that kept the whole thing from toppling over into sticky sweet. I very much want a grounder The 100 spin-off. I feel like there's so much there that has remained unexplored and has so much potential. I'd love to hear how they survived and learn their customs. It's the best mystery on The 100 in my opinion. I agree about reboots not hurting the originals although I don't always like the reboot.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm loving the vehicle contest too. I'm glad you've still got things to vote for. I agree that most reboots don't live up to the originals but I also think that sometimes they get judged harder because of them. I would be good with them starting a new Star Trek series, especially with the movies being so hot right now. NCIS is one of the few spin-offs that I like a lot better than the original, not that JAG isn't good because it is. I just didn't like one of the characters.

"If it's a show I watch, I'll give the spin-off a chance, but it has to eventually stand on it's own merit for me to keep watching."

I completely agree with this. If it's only being propped up by a name or the original, it's not worth the time.

  69. I think Hawaii 5-O has ended up being a brilliant reboot too.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I know you will. I am going to be far too busy in the next 24 hours to help. Sorry, but I've got a poll to put up and 2 recaps to write. Still even if she goes down, she had one heck of a run for a character with only 8 episodes. I'm sure she'll come back even stronger next year.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I've no idea, it was just a thought, I'm really not familiar with Disney characters at all. But given OUAT's love for twists they make any character work. Maybe the Hunchback of Notre Dame is where it could start, he could easily be made into a really creepy character.

  72. I'm a fan of Angel and the NCIS duo as well. I never did watch any of the CSI's until Cyber but I've liked the NY ones I've seen in reruns.

I never thought of The Flash as both a spin-off and a reboot, but you're right. It is. I'll think of it as a reboot mostly then. Agent Carter was awesome as well. In fact except for Universe (which I never saw), I like all those you mentioned. I am so up for a The 100 prequel and I'd love to see what Braeden's been up to on Teen Wolf. Having more shows like Stargate is always a good idea and I am hopeful that we'll get something. I'm nervous abotu Legends of Tomorrow but I'm also hopeful.

  85. Damn I somehow forgot Agent Carter, I need to edit that into my list as well! I never tried Ravenswood, I started PLL when it was already cancelled but I thought it was odd they brought supernatural elements into that universe. Agreed on Stargate and needing more space shows, I'm glad they're finally making a comeback.

  86. You didn't miss anything with Ravenswood, it's one of the worst shows I've ever seen.

  87. Do you like spin-offs and reboots? - For spin-offs it depends on the writing and if I actually am interested in the characters enough to watch it. Sometimes I can love a character and not like a spin-off focused on them because sometimes I love them for their interactions with another character or them not being involved in the original show makes the original show suffer.
For reboots it depends on the writing as well, but it also depends on if I watched the original. As for many people, I tend to like whatever I watch first best. If I see the reboot first, I'll probably like it more, and vice versa, depending on how old the original show was. Often times, I don't really care for older shows (earlier than the 90s) because of CGI, different styles of writing, acting, etc. But on occasion, I will prefer an older show over the new version.

What are your favorites and least favorites? - My fav spin-offs are The Flash (that counts, right?) and The Originals. And if we're counting movie to TV spin-offs, Agents of Shield and Dominion. Those are really the only spin-offs I watch right now though. Also, Angel was good. A least favorite would be Chicago PD - it didn't get me hooked like Chicago Fire did but that may be because it was "another cop show" to me.

What shows would you create a spin-off for and which characters or story ideas would you use?
Charmed: The Next Generation is always the one that comes to mind. I'd love to see what happens to Chris and Wyatt, their sister, and cousins in the future. And good!Future Wyatt is hilarious.

What shows would you like to get rebooted? - None come to mind. I don't know if I'd ever watch a reboot of a show I've watched before. I do it for movies and usually always like the original better. I have liked reboots sometimes if I see it first.

Are there any shows you would rather NOT EVER be rebooted? - Supernatural, Dominion, Person of Interest, etc. How about all my shows?

Do reboots diminish originals or bring new audiences to cult classics (XMAN)? - Sure, they can make the characters popular, but the original won't always gain more attention through it. Example: Just because I watch the new Star Trek movies, doesn't mean I'm interested in seeing the older movies - though I did check out some of the TV shows one summer.

If you could bring back a show intact (meaning same cast in the same roles), which one would it be? - Cancelled shows I enjoyed like Almost Human, Forever, Constantine, etc. I would not want to bring back shows that ended wrapped up (or as wrapped as the writers wanted) like Charmed, Fringe, and Wildfire.

Are you interested in any of the proposed spin-offs and reboots in the works? - Not on TV.

Wow have to say I am surprised that Beckett lost! I voted Peggy today and don't watch the other shows. Looks like person of interest/Root has a big following here!

TV Topic: Spin offs are an interesting phenomenon, sometimes they do great and sometimes they fail miserably. I watched Angel which I really enjoyed and want to watch again. Flash of course and I plan to check out Legends of Tomorrow. I watched the new 90210 for a couple seasons though I never watched the original. The Originals from TVD I am basically watching for Elijah and Hayley because I really dislike Klaus. I enjoyed The Finder which was from Bones and was disappointed when it got cancelled, I think it was intriguing the way he solved things. I'm watching Girl Meets World though I was too young to watch Boy Meets World when it first started. I thought Ravenswood was alright but making a supernatural universe where there wasn't one in PLL was kind of strange and they never really went back to it. Does Hannah even know that Miranda died? (Also crazy how the actress plays an adult on Beauty and the Beast but I believed her as a teenager). I guess CSI counts as spin offs, I was watching them all at one point though I liked Miami and NY the best. I know Supernatural tried a spin off, I enjoyed the episode but the show has already done so much that I'm not sure what I still need to see in another series.

I would like to see something to do with Gilmore Girls again with the original cast because I really enjoyed those characters. Veronica Mars movie I enjoyed and I re-watched the whole series to prepare for it :P.

  91. Root and Peggy.

    Metallicar, TARDIS, Serenity and Enterprise.

I think I love the Metalicar even more about finding out that the fourth episode next season on SPN will be titled "Baby" and be from the Impala's point of view.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Characters: Root and Scully
    Vehicles: Donas, Serenity and Enterprise

    TV Topic:
    1) Do you like spin-offs and reboots?
It all depends on the execution of the reboot. I'm not a fan of them, but if done right I believe they can be as enjoyable as the original show was. As for spinoffs, I like them, but again only if they're done right and keep a certain level of familiarity with the show that it developed from.

    2) What are your favorites and least favorites?
My favorite spinoff was Stargate Universe and even Atlantis. I loved the original Stargate so was always going to love the spinoff for it, but it was the setting, the characters and interesting worlds they visited that really got me hooked to it. Another one I liked was Angel.

    3) What shows would you create a spin-off for and which characters or story ideas would you use?

Game of Thrones - Roberts Rebellion is something I'd like to see. It can easily happen as there's quite a lot to cover about it. Ned Stark, Robert Baratheon and all the characters around at that time would come back.
Lost - Dr Linus - I loved Ben on Lost, he remains my favorite character and after seeing our sneaky April fools joke it actually made me want it to happen. I think it could happen and it would be rather enjoyable. Obviously, there would need to be Ben, Locke, Danielle, Alex and a few others brought back.

  94. I say this as both a Tardis fan and a Donas fan. Maybe the next time we have a "Vehicle competition," it should stay into two categories: living and nonliving. It's not fair to put a beautiful creation like Donas against machines. There are dozens of television/movie animals that could be nominated for such a contest. Just wanted to express my opinion and hope you understand that I mean it respectfully. Thank you for your consideration.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I think like with all shows, writing is ket in a spin-off or reboot. I agree that I can like a character on one show and then not in another for a variety of reasons. Many times my favorite characters are the sidekicks but sometimes they are best used in small doses if I am being truly honest with myself. For me it depends on the shows, which reboot I like best. Sometimes I like both. I can definitely see liking a show better with the one you watched first. You have pre-conceived ideas about characters and plots that way. Similar to reading the book and then watching the movie. Sometimes I just grow out of the type of show as well. I liked Beverly Hills 90210 when it came out. It was my age level and I got sucked into some of the drama. I then tried 90210 when it came out and hated it. I don't think it was the reboot part but that I'm older now and that kind of show doesn't appeal to me. My guess is if I went back and watched the first one, I wouldn't like it any better.

I am counting The Flash as a reboot myself but that is only because I don't like its Arrow ties. It could go either way. I'm actually surprised that no one from Charmed was nominated for this contest because it had a huge following on SpoilerTV when I first started here. I am not at all excited about there ever being a Supernatural reboot either. The only booting I want to see there is Jeremy Carver getting booted to the curb. I can't imagine a Supernatural without Jensen and Jared. I guess that's a major issue for people in all reboots though. They grew to love the actors, etc. and anything else feels wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I pretend season 3 never happened so my reboot /continuation would work from season 2 on. Everything Warehouse 13 did in the end was wrong. It was rushed and people keep using the shortened season as an excuse. I say they knew what they had to work with and screwed it all to hell. Plus, who has filler episodes in a 6 episode season? Argh! I went from having to podcast that mess to having to podcast season 2 of Sleepy Hollow. I was NOT a happy camper.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I am very interested in how they are going to do that episode.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I'm going to check out Legends of Tomorrow too. I like Flash so I'm hoping it will be similar in tone to it but with more action. The Finder I thought was interesting as well. I actually think that it might have done better without the Bones tag and let it jsut be its own show, which it practically was anyway. I plan to watch Girl Meets World. I only saw the pilot but I loved Boy Meets World. If you get a chance, I would definitely say check it out.

I would totally love to see a Gilmore Girls continuation. Lorelai was a riot and brought a lot of heart. Even a TV movie would be great. Ditto for Veronica Mars.

  100. Characters: Scully and Peggy

Yes to the 3rd/4th place poll

    TV Talk Topic:
There are many spin-off and reboots that I really like. I think I like it or not depends on how it is executed and if the cast has the same vibe that made me love the original.

    Among my favorites are:
Star Trek (all versions but TNG was my favorite)
Stargate (Atlantis, couldn't get thru the pilot of Universe)
CSI (NY, not so much Miami)
NCIS (LA for sure, NO is still a little rough)
Law & Order (CI and SVU for awhile. Content made me drop SVU)
Criminal Minds (ya, I'm probably the only person who liked SB)
H5O (I only vaguely remmber seeing repeats of the original but I love the updated version)
The Flash....and I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow
    Agent Carter

Most of the shows that I would prefer be left alone are ones that are classics or were so iconic of their time that rebooting them now wouldn't have the same feel. Examples are: The Munsters, The Adams Family, Gilligan's Island, Cheers, Frasier, Friends, and Seinfeld.

There are a few shows that I would love to see a spin-off or reboot:
Stargate - really miss this show and I'm sad that the movie reboot will not be taking any of the TV shows as canon

Star Trek - the movies are great but I miss the weekly adventures. It's been far too long since we've had ST on the air

The 100 - very intrigued about what happened leading up to the bombs and how people survived after they hit. How did the clans form. How did society and culture change in the immediate aftermath when survival was paramount while dealing with a changed reality

Leverage - I need Parker, Eliot and Hardison back together. I'd settle for a single Christmas special every year

If I could bring any show back with the entire cast intact - it would be both Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. I miss the Jack and Daniel bickering, The Teal'c eyebrow lift, Carter's technobabble, Rodney's citrus allergy and Tela, Ronin and Shepherd kicking Wraith ass. **sigh** I feel a rewatch coming on...

  101. Absolutely. I actually did not think of anyone nominating a horse for best vehicle so when people started doing that and mentioning them in the comments I was a little surprised. Still horses do fit the explanation I gave so I thought why not. Originally before the nominations even began I was going to do Best Vehicle and Best Non-Human Character (meaning not played by an actor, so werewolves and vampires and angels wouldn't count). That's where I expected animals to go. It was also only going to be a single poll, not a mini-contest. However with almost 500 nominations, I decided to split vehicles into past and present shows and do it big. Since I had not said anything against animals going into this contest, horses fit the category, and people nominated them, I thought it best to go with it. I am still happy with the decision because people seem to like it even if having a horse in the running does seem a little odd to me. I am also toying with the idea of banning any show still in the Character Cup when the mini-contest from participating in it, which would have eliminated Donas right from the start. However I hadn't made that decision before nominations started so again, it didn't seem fair to not include him. It's also why there were 2 vehicles from SHIELD at the beginning when I personally prefer to only allow one item per show in contests. I hope that better explains the process for you. I still am very much considering TV Animal as the topic of the next Character Cup mini-contest.

  102. Spin-offs for me are tricky because sometimes they stay too similar in format for me, in that I can't really tell the difference between them and the show they spun off of. That's the case of NCIS: NO for me. I wish that one had something to distinguish itself away from the mothership. Others like Stargate I feel need to tie in more, mostly because of the intricate worldbuilding that comes in the original. Game of Thrones sounds like a perfect show to spin-off because it has such a large cast of characters and such rich source material.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Your reaction to those spin-offs is amazingly like mine. TNG for Star Trek, Atlantis for Stargate, CSI:NY over Miami, NCIS:LA over NO. There is not one I disagree with except I don't know what Criminal Minds SB is. I also agree that remaking Gilligan's island would just be sad. Some things should never be touched. I never did see the Munsters reboot although I was curious about it. I cannot even imagine the riots if someone tried to reboot Friends.

I am curious about the Stargate movie but in all honesty, I doubt I see it unless someone like you tells me it's worth it. I'm highly skeptical about that one. I too what a The 100 spin-off or 2 or 3. I'm not greedy. There are so many aspects to follow and clans to explore that I could see The 100 becoming its own franchise, if only the ratings would improve to make it worthwhile for WB to explore. As for Leverage, I wholeheartedly concur. I need something. Anything. At this point I'm good with a sequence of webisodes with those three taking a case. I just need them reunited. My Throwback Thursday article is a recap of the Leverage episode where Parker is trapped in the building and we meet her "father." I just got done watching it again and now I'm craving my Parker-Eliot-Hardison time even more.

  107. Question. Legit not starting a fight, just curious, Question. When does Root become a beloved character? I'm in the middle of season 3, and frankly not a huge fan of POI but I usually love Amy Acker, and she is borderline unwatchable right now with her idolatry, and insanity and sanctimonious crap. Does the character make a turn? Or is she always the same crazy lecturing nutbar? Like does another storyline come in and she joins the team instead of being antagonistic, the machine loves me best? What changes?

    ReplyDelete
  108. I am as well, but I am really hoping for just a very cool episode regardless. It's an idea I've never thought of, but after hearing Jared talking about it, I am wondering why I've never thought of that idea before as Dean's Baby has pretty much became an important character...she even helped defeat Lucifer.

    ReplyDelete
  109. How can the Tardis be losing to a horse?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Exactly. Reboots are hard because I get attached to the original actors playing those characters. Pretty sure Jensen and Jared will always be Dean and Sam in my mind no matter what they do after Supernatural ends eventually.

The Charmed fans are MIA? I honestly haven't really thought about the show for a while (it was the first show I was ever a fan of), but I get up earlier with my puppy now, so I have been seeing Charmed reruns in the mornings lately. I still like it/haven't grown out of it.

Totally with you on the sidekick part. Sometimes a character can become less likable if they're on screen all the time. I can't think of an example of that right now, though I believe I had at least one out of the dozens of shows I've watched.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Everything changes. Season 3B onwards is when the AI storyline kicks into high gear and Root is a major, major player. Yes, she joins Team Machine and her popularity grew immensely once we got to know her beyond her "idolatry" for The Machine. But answering your question beyond that would be spoiling a huge turn point for the show - and her character arc, as well.

    ReplyDelete
  112. basically once she joins the team and is forced to learn how to feel. her following the machine around like a puppy does pay off (to most people, anyway) since the machine ends up teaching her a good lesson in humanity which blossomed in two of the most beloved relationships on the show: the root/harold friendship and the root/shaw ship. all I can tell you is that it DOES change. whether you’re going to warm up to her or not though… up to you. some people never did.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I'm on 3.19...when? I understand the desire to not spoil something, but I did genuinely ask.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Yes, she has a turn, or at least something of a reality check, in the seventeenth episode. But she remains very much a wild card even throughout Season 4.

It's also worth noting that her "crap" doesn't quite deserve that term. She was disillusioned with humanity at a young age, lost a friend. Her discovery of the Machine was like an awakening. She gained a sense of purpose, even considered the Machine a maternal figure (consider that the Machine came online the same year her mother died). In a way, she's still a kid, having not really matured as a person: zealous, playful, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Basically what the other two said. There is a reason why POI had little to no presence in social media before season 4. Root joins the team organically in season three, though I guess that doesn't "officially" happen until season 4. Harold is kidnapped so Root, Shaw and Reese team up to rescue him/stop Samaritan at the same time. Things obviously go wrong but Root manages to save the day in the S3 finale by giving them an out. Season 4 starts off with them having to live (well, hide) in the subway under different identities so Samaritan won't find them and kill them. Season 4 in general represents a huge turn point for her character cause that's when she learns just how much Harold means to her (and vice-versa), that's when she questions The Machine and sorts of rebels against it for the first time, that's when she realizes she's in love with Shaw. When Shaw "dies", Root doesn't quite believe it and is determined to search for her, but The Machine tells her to stop. And she does... until she doesn't. Her "death" boosted her character development to the clouds and Amy Acker was fantastic through and through. It messed with Root's head and heart and changed her character completely from that one we met in season 1.

    ReplyDelete
  116. That scene was awesome. Root torturing/murdering people for Shaw is my favourite thing.

    ReplyDelete
  117. The Root pic completely speaks for itself this time. Her switch in that scene is crazy (in a good way), from rather sadistic to acquiescent but quietly distressed.

  118. Go Peggy, Go!
Okay...I really have to ask: A freaking horse? I watch outlander and I don't even remember its name. I am not even sure if they always use the same horse.

  119. Agent Carter is really awesome! You don't need to know anything about the MCU to understand what the show is about.

    ReplyDelete
  120. You know, NCIS itself is a Spin-Off...of JAG.
Great list...I would add Major Crime to it.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I am open to spin-off, but I am usually very, very anti-reboot. It rarely works, because most shows are a product of their time. But there is one show which, imho, was a little bit ahead of its time and would have, at the same time, worked better in a more serialized storytelling which didn't really became popular until a few years later: The Sentinel. I mean the concept is so great that a fandom is not really a fandom before someone has written a Sentinel AU. I wouldn't do a reboot, though, I would built up on the existing Mythology, and shake things up a little bit (because I really don't want to see any other actors in the role of Jim and Blair). I wouldn't even necessarily make it a cop show. The Sentinel and the Guide could have totally different jobs, preferably they both could be female this time around. The important aspect is, that they have to be very different personality-wise and that the show focusses on them dealing with the senses.

  123. I think Peggy already is a feminist Icon. It is not as widespread yet, because there are still not enough people watching the show, but Peggy has stolen the heart of those who do.

    ReplyDelete
  124. As much as I love Neal, I would prefer Matt Bomer to finally get the movie career he deserves. I would like a nice TV movie, but that's all.
But I would watch "Leverage International" any day.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I tried Agent Carter, I couldn't get into it. Has absolutely nothing to do with "Knowing about the MCU" (Which i do know about, ftr) Personally, IDT it's fair to vote for something that I don't follow. In this case a show, It messes up the voting, so I leave it alone.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I'm having trouble figuring how how to file stuff. Would Star Trek: The Next Generation be considered a spin off? I need some titles! Help!

In general, I am not a fan of reboots. 90% of the time once the flame has been put out it can't be rekindled. Battlestar Galactica and Hawaii Five-0 are rare successes. Knight Rider was a complete mess. I remember the original Beauty and the Beast. The reboot just didn't work for me. Then there are the reboots of shows that died, as evidenced by a loss of audience, as the quality of the show diminished. Personally, if the writing couldn't sustain the show the first time around it's extremely difficult to convince me it will be better a second time around.

I don't think I'd create a reboot of anything. There are a few shows for which I would love to see the story finished but I wouldn't want them to be...at least not on film. As I said once the flame goes out...it's never going to be the same and I'd rather live with it in my head than watch something that just isn't the same thing that I loved. Two examples are Serenity and the Veronica Mars movies. I enjoyed Serenity more than Veronica Mars but for me neither was the series I loved.

Spinoffs are a different story. They are basically new shows that will work or not based on their quality. I judge them on their own merits. Sometimes the spinoff is better than the original.

  127. I knew Root would be in the finals(Who didn't?) but the rest is a shcoker to me.

  128. I forgot about Nikita. That one worked.

If anyone but Chris Carter were behind the X-Files reboot I might be inclined to give it a shot, but as a writer Chris Carter betrayed my trust. I'm not inclined to trust him again.

Twin Peaks..is one they should IMHO stay away from. That show was an extremely unique vision. The odds on re-igniting *that* flame will be success are extremely low.

Heroes Reborn's trailer makes it feel more like a spin off than a reboot so it might work.

  129. How is Mickey so popular??? He is not even in my Top 5 favorite characters on Shameless. But oh well, since I don't watch AC I voted for him.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I hate the fact that I have been so busy throughout this challenge and couldn't engage more. Anyway, I predicted Root and Peggy being in the final four, but I'm really surprised by Mickey being here. I love his character and I had no idea that he has so many fans. On the show okay, but eliminating so many popular characters? Anyway my votes today go the Root and Mickey. Sorry Peggy, I really love you too, but I just feel Mickey closer to me, so yeah .. That's it! Can't wait for the finale!

    ReplyDelete
  131. I'm kind of late, and it's a very minor thing, but I wanted to say that I appreciate your effort of choosing a different picture of every character for each round!

Also, voting for Root and Peggy, because they're currently among my favourite ladies on tv, especially Root.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Peggy and Lola.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I think the turning point for Root is 3.17.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Oh, you can vote for whatever you want...I just tell everyone to watch Agent Carter whenever possible, because I think everyone should at least give this show a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I am surprised for Mickey and how he has got far. Looks like I am voting for the ones who will losenow.
    1. Dana, sorry Root but Dana is the icon.
    2. Peggy by default, dont watch Shameless

    ReplyDelete
  136. I always like Denise, but I didn't mind that they focused on the other characters. I love Dwayne Wayne!!

  137. Continuing on in that one are Metallicar (Dean's Baby)

The problem with the car is that it has become very much Dean's car. It was of course funny to see Dean fawn over the car, call it a term of endearment and act like the car was a real person. Naturally, Sam did not get why Dean was so obsessed with the car and would tease him about it. That was and is part of their dynamic as brothers.

I think that the premise of the show is stronger when it's two brothers driving around in a '67 Chevy Impala hunting monsters – not two brothers in a car that in reality belongs to only one of the them. It's even more of problem because the car is treated as a prized possession, worshiped and even fetishized on the show and by the viewers.

Sure, it has always been Dean's car more than it has been Sam's car because John gave it to Dean, Dean is usually the driver and in general loves cars more than Sam does. Thus, Dean giving Sam the car keys has been very symbolic on the show. Dean feels so possessive over the car that he thinks that no changes should be made to it even if Dean was dead!

Yet at the end of the five season arc, we were to believe that the car was both Sam and Dean's home. However, it has become something that Dean has even more ownership over, even going as far as Dean punching Sam off his feet and saying, "New rule. You steal my baby, you get punched." (7.03 The Girl Next Door)

So I wish that the writing would take more care in showing that the Impala is part of Sam was well on an emotional level. Dean can still act as passionate about the car as ever. But Sam would have more of a stake in something that was supposed to represent the Winchester brothers.

Maybe the upcoming episode titled "Baby" will rectify some of that...

  138. MICKEY MICKEY MICKEYYY

    ReplyDelete
  139. I want Firefly and Veronica Mars back. Would love for Eric Kripke to come back to SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  140. No actually it has always been that Dean was more of a family man than Sam is. It is important to them as family, but at the end of the day for Sam it can just be a car, as always he's not a family man or at least doesn't show it easily. As you said, it's now symbolic for Dean to give the car keys.

    ReplyDelete
  141. This is kind of off topic, but this contest has made my watch list grow considerably. I've added Teen Wolf and Major Crimes to my list. Because I need more tv shows to watch in my life. lol

    ReplyDelete
  142. No, it's not about Dean being the family man, it's about them wanting Dean to be "cooler" so he gets the car, the music, the chicks.

    Supernatural: Impala of course!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Spin-offs/Reboots

I think they're different. There are spin-offs, reboots and then continuations. I'm not a fan of reboots but I don't mind spin-offs. Like The Flash, Angel, Frasier, Trapper John MD etc...
Some are complete misfires - Joey, Joanie Loves Chachi etc...
Continuations like the upcoming X-Files and possible Prison Break are different. They're not rebooting, changing characters or creating a spin-off. They're picking up our favorite characters lives years later and adding to their story. I love that.

    Spin-Offs
    Supernatural-
-I would have a Crowley/Cas spinoff version of Angels vs Demons only they would have to be partners.
-Mary and John's story before Sam and Dean

    Never Reboot
Lost. It was an instant classic and when it was at it's high, it was near perfect. Don't mess with that. It was original, creative and fun to watch. Until it wasn't. As with SH, the writers lost their mojo and the only reason I had to keep watching was my investment in their end. I loved these characters even when I didn't love their story.

    Bad vs Good Reboots
I think mostly, reboots are a mistake. If the original was so good, it makes you want to see the story again, it's kind of arrogant to think you can re-create that greatness.
Ironside, Charlie's Angels, Knight Rider, Bionic Woman, Rockford Files, Melrose Place, 90210, Beauty and the Beast all are a big NO.
Hawaii 5-0 I've heard is really good, Battlestar Galactica is an example of how to do it right.

    Shows I would bring back
Two of my all time favorites are coming back in X-Files and Prison Break.
I would like to see Buffy and Angel pick back up, years later. They're traveling the globe, hunting and saving the world a lot. Only with the original cast.

The continuations/spin-offs I'm looking forward to are Twin Peaks, X-Files, Prison Break, Legends of Tomorrow, Fear the Walking Dead,
I think Coach and Full House are a big mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I frankly get so tired of the Sam/Dean non-existent competition snark rolling over into threads that are meant for fun.
I stopped going to SPN boards for a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I haven't watched MC yet but I do watch Teen Wolf. I hope you like it. Dylan O'Brien is going places.

    ReplyDelete
  147. The problem is that the Impala is not supposed to be just a cool car, it's supposed to represent the brothers. Modern day cowboys riding in the Impala that has god knows how much horsepower. The Impala is even used as a symbol of the show Supernatural.

The car is supposed to be "home" to the Winchesters as per Swan Song. So how come the Impala is widely seen as "Dean's Baby" and that's it??

The writers want it both ways: to use the car to boost Dean up as a character but still try to maintain that the Impala is a symbol of the Winchester brothers – something that fans can get attached to because it's not just Dean's cool car but has a deeper emotional connection to the brothers. Yet for the most part Sam is forgotten in the equation because the car is really Dean's.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I don't like reboots, hate remakes and the only spinoff I watch is The Originals, which is much better than The Vampire Dramas.
Despite its stupid title I plan to check Fear The Walking Dead.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Root and Peggy Carter for me today.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I couldn't agree more, The Originals is way better than The Vampire Diaries. The only other spin-off I have loved as much was Angel. Though I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I was never a fan of Angel on there (he was too whiny and annoying). That said, he really came into his own in the spin-off. As for Fear the Walking Dead, I also plan to watch it even though it's the lamest title EVER.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I´m watching season 2 now and also don´t like her, so I´m really happy that you asked that question. Thanks. I feel like the actress is over doing it and she bothers me.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Scully for me.

Reboot: Normally not a fan, but I love Twin Peaks and now that Lynch is involved again, I´m really excited that Showtime picked it up.

Spinoffs: I´ll be watching Fear The Walking Dead. Can´t say I´m real excited about it, but I dropped so many shows this year and I need something new, so I´ll most likely watch the first season.

Would like to see a spinoff of: Entourage. I don´t miss the show, but I miss Ari Gold, he always made me laugh, so I´d love to see him having his own show.
And some kind of spinoff from Deadwood with some of those wonderful characters would be much welcome as well.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Oh Peggy :/ I've really tried!

    ReplyDelete
  154. The only spin-offs I've ever really loved are Angel and The Originals. That said, I do like The Flash and look forward to the new season and I liked Caprica even though it was more of a prequel than anything. I'm not big on procedurals (which are far more likely to get spin-offs), so the CSI and Law & Order shows are completely lost on me. I watch Chicago Fire, but had zero interest in Chicago PD, so I quit watching after two episodes (mostly because I didn't like the cast) and I don't plan on watching Chicago Med. As for upcoming spin-offs, I do plan to watch Fear the Walking Dead (even thought I think it's the lamest name for a spin-off ever) and Legends of Tomorrow.

As for reboots, I was a huge fan of Nikita and I do watch Beauty and the Beast, even though it has sinceriously gone down hill over the past couple of seasons. Honestly, I don't know why I still watch it other than the fact that I've been a fan of Kristen Kreuk since her Smallville days and it's good background when I'm online. As for upcoming reboots, I plan to watch Heroes Reborn and The X Files.

The only spin-off I'd like to see is a good Supernatural one. That one they tried to sell us last year for awful on so many levels. What I think they need to do is give us a prequel featuring Samuel Colt. How awesome would that be to see him build the Colt and that awesome Devil's Gate without all of the stuff the boys have had to hunt with? I also wouldn't mind a spin-off featuring Benny because he really has a lot to offer the Supernatural world and I feel he wasn't used to his true capacity.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I could´t agree more with Lost. Don´t ever do it!!

I didn´t hear that Prison Break was coming back. How much of the cast will be back?

I can´t wait for Twin Peaks. And I´ll also watch X-Files, Fear The Walking Dead and maybe PB.

    ReplyDelete
  156. It was a much easier choice today xD.
    Go Carter!

    ReplyDelete
  157. They should have kept Cobalt

    ReplyDelete
  158. Deadline reported it (PB) back in June and this is the STV article-

    http://www.spoilertv.com/2015/06/prison-break-limited-series-revival-in.html

I would love it because that means they would have to completely retcon the finale and I am ok with that. I am hardly ever ok with retcon but that was one BS finale that I am still bitter over.
I loved Lost and no other reboot or spin off could do justice to the perfect first seasons of TV for me.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I spent last night doing the most intense facebook propaganda I've ever seen in all Agent Carter related groups I could find and I even... joined twitter to see what could be done there (though that one didn't really work as obviously you need followers before it amounts to anything). I've tried!

    ReplyDelete
  160. I totally agree with you. I think shows such as NCIS, Criminal Minds with case of the style week episodes need to be different as they can very easily be the same show just with a different cast and location. I actually think spinoffs that come from them type of shows aren't a good idea, as there's no uniqueness to them.

Game of Thrones would be easy to spinoff. There's a lot of history to the books that they will never cover on the show. Throughout the show there's always been talk about events that have happened before the show, but actually seeing it would make these stories we hear far better.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Yeah...me too. This breaks my heart! (It also confuses me, because usually, even if I don't watch the shows in question, I have at least heart of the characters in the top four, but I have never heart of Mickey at all).

    ReplyDelete
  162. I think the others already sufficiently answered your question. The one thing I will add on to their responses is that Root is not crazy. She never was. Everyone dismissed her as insane and got screwed over as a result. They should have heeded her warnings.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I can tolerate people not liking Root, but I can't stand it when people question Amy Acker's acting chops. Here's my response to that: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bweqh2EEbL3mWWVORy1kNkN6eWs/view

    ReplyDelete
  164. It's definitely that way bro. I mean, they showed he doesn't know internet or apps or anything. Dean is also supposed to be cooler, that's why they show him more interested in Impala but also he's the family man, Sam had even left Dean and his father and wasn't that interested, so Impala is also connected to him a little, more indirectly with Dean, and overall for Dean, it's something more.

  167. Please don't suggest any spin-offs for Game of Thrones until Martin finished the original Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) series. He seems to be so easily distracted I wouldn't want him to start thinking about other stories until he finishes this saga. :)

    ReplyDelete
  168. Ha. He really does. Although, I think the show will end before Martin gets his last book out. I enjoy his books, and taking time on them can be good, but only until recently he hadn't really focused a lot on TWOW.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I am curious about the Twin Peaks rebbot so I will likely check it out. I'm only giving Fear the Walking Dead the pilot to capture my attention though.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Fear the Walking Dead gets one episode to impress me but I doubt I'll see the second episode.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I was a fan of Angel myself even though unlike you I loved him on Buffy too.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Love this moment of Root in early season 3:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Igr9E06LXHs

    So creepy and scary.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I wasn´t trying to put the actress down. It just seemed to me like she/her character has a higher pace than the rest of the characters and it seemed out of place for me. It doesn´t fit in somehow. Like I said, I´m not that far in the show (it still has´t really caught my attention) and maybe I just need get use to it or maybe she will fit in better later on.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Frasier was an odd one for me because I did not like the character on Cheers at all but when I tried Frasier out years later, I came to really enjoy that show. I would loe to have a Supernatural prequel but instead of John and Mary, since John didn't know anything and Mary was running from the supernatural, I want the early years of Bobby adn Rufus.

I would watch a Buffy and Angel continuation, especially since David can act better now than back then. It would be good to see what everyone's up to even in a TV movie. I'm going to try Coach for the memories but I don't see Full House being a good plan at all.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Amazing article.

  176. That's great. I love when people can find new shows through contests like this and Pitch Your Show. I personally was introduced to Veronica Mars through either this contest or the Best Show one.

I like both shows. Do know that season 1 of Teen Wolf is a bit hit or miss but every season only has 12 episodes (if you split season 3 into two parts like the show did) so it's easy to get through the rough spots. Major Crimes is a spin-off of The Closer and while you do not have to watch The Closer to understand it, I did find it useful to watch The Closer final episode because it sets up the relationship between Sharon and Rusty, a pivotal part of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  177. I've never heard of him too.

  178. Dylan was particularly impressive on Monday. It reminded me of the superb 3B.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I suddenly know who I want to win it all.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Kripke coming back to Supernatural is really the only continuation I need.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Any of the possible matchups for the final are simply amazing:
    - Root vs Mickey --> two queer characters
    - Scully vs Mickey --> a strong female character and a queer character
    - Root vs Peggy --> two strong female characters
    - Scully vs Peggy --> two strong female characters

In terms of representation for women and queer characters, it feels like a win no matter who makes it to the finals. :')

    ReplyDelete
  182. While I believe that Supernatural is, was, and always will be about 2 brothers having each other's backs and defeating evil, I have zero problem with the Impala being Dean's prized possession. It defines him as the hands-on, more "blue collar" for lack of a better word, of the brothers while Sam's laptop (which he also lays claim to over and over again throughout the series) also defines him as the researcher, more "white collar." They are an extension of the brothers' personalities and what makes them different. Even though they would go to hell and back for each other (and did), they are very different personalities and I love that about them as well.

    ReplyDelete
  183. I was trying to look for the scene right before this one where Root tells Harold she was the one to kill Cyrus' friends. I saw it on YT like a week ago but I can't seem to find it now. I love that moment. She's so regretful.

    ReplyDelete
  184. I'm right there with you Dahne, "Whew" this has been a hellava competion, I think it's over for my final two, Scully and Agent Carter, I'm proud of the fandom well did manage to get to the final round, and a freshman series, not shabby at all:) I thought it very amusing having an actual horse in the horse race for best vehicals, That's going to be fun, I hate the comp is almost over it's really been fun as always talking tv with you guys, it sure has me wanted to check out POI with all the love Root is getting here!!

    ReplyDelete
  185. I disagree with this now in the show because both brothers have grown and changed over the course of 10 seasons. However in the beginning the car was a symbol of how Dean embraced the hunting life and idolized John too much. While the car was more of a conflicting symbol for Sam. It meant the only home he had before he went to college, but it also meant being brought back into a world he hated.

    ReplyDelete
  186. The Impala stopped being about Dean being cool a long time ago, even before Swan Song.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Thanks. It is because of the dedicated people who helped find pictures that I can do so. I really appreciate everyone pitching in and helping whenever it was needed.
