2015 Character Cup - 1D

Jul 16, 2015

Wow! What an amazing round of polls in the previous section. It was a topsy turvy day with special congratulations going out to the Shameless fandom, who pulled off the biggest upset in this contest's history. They got 55th seeded Mickey to round 2 over 10th seeded Barry Allen. Just amazing! Several other upsets occurred this round too, breaking many brackets in the process. I can't wait to see what the rest of the contest holds because things just got very exciting. Here are the characters going to round 2: Jamie Fraser, Hannibal Lecter, Emma Swan, Vanessa Ives, Kieren Walker, Spencer Reid, Mickey Milkovitch, and Veronica Mars. Thanks to all fandoms that put the word out and voted. I appreciate you all. You've already made this a wildly successful contest and have helped pass hiatus with all the great discussion. You all rock! Happy voting!

Prediction Cup Update -

The last polls saw many prediction brackets busted so it's going to be an even wilder ride than last year. Currently we have Emma as the sole person in first place with Idahoow in second, and DarkUFO and Perrin tied for third. Congratulations to all of you!

Today's TV Talk Topic:

TV To-Watch Lists - It seems like most of us have a list of TV shows that we've always wanted to watch but never got around to. For others, it's shows we loved and want to revisit. If your TV watch list is like mine, it's so over packed with great TV to watch that the ship is now sinking in the harbor from too much weight. I seriously think mine could last me a decade without any new episodes airing ever. So the question becomes, what to do with all that great TV potential?

If you had unlimited time, which of the TV shows have you never gotten around to but always wanted to watch would you marathon? Why did you choose this one? What shows top your to-watch list? What criteria gets a show on your to-watch list and what puts something to the top? Do you ever drop something from your to-watch list? Are you currently marathoning anything? Have you marathoned shows you've already seen? Do you have a to-watch list actually written down somewhere or is it in your head?

Rules:

1. This is a Silly Internet Contest, Not the Fate of the Nations - This contest is meaningless. The results are meaningless. It will NOT change the fate of any TV show anywhere. Don't take it seriously. Have fun. Discuss a lot.

2. Focus on Characters, Not People - Anyone can vote however they want for whatever reason they want and anyone can give their opinion on a character, favorable or not. Talking negatively about a character is NOT the same as attacking their fans. Keep the conversation to the characters. If you don't like what someone says about your character, comment on what you love about them. You might get new people to try your show.

3. The Aliens Haven't Landed.  There's No Conspiracy Here - I have no hidden agenda. Everything is placed in brackets based on the number of nominations and polls. If your character goes against a giant, it's not personal. Mine will too. There's also no secret underground of people cheating polls. No one gets paid for that so no one has time for that, especially since this contest means absolute squat. It's just for fun.

4. Leave Sour Grapes on the Vine - Yeah, it sucks when your favorite gets kicked off by a show you hate. Yep, the winning character will come from the most organized fandom that gets the word out the fastest. Them's the facts of life and the internet. It doesn't mean we can't still have fun. Don't dwell on past polls or vetch about life's unfairness and it will be more enjoyable.

5. It's Not 2048 and My Name's Not Dorian - I will do my very best to keep the contest running smoothly and let you know the approximate time each poll ends. However, I am human and occasionally do silly things like get the time zone changes wrong. Again see #3. Let me know and I'll fix it. I apologize in advance for any technical difficulties.

6. Comments are the Wellspring of Hiatus Life - Most of us anxiously await the return of our favorite shows. Why not distract yourself with a little TV Talk? Each day we have a new topic. Come join us because even if you have no one to vote for in the polls, you can still discuss. While this contest is just a silly piece of internet fluff, the conversation here goes deep so jump on in.

Nuts and Bolts:

1. All polls, even the final one, will be about 24 hours long. A new poll goes up every day unless something unforeseen happens so you always know when your favorites compete.
2. Everything is head-to-head competition unless there's a tie and then both go to the next round.
3. One vote per IP per poll.

  1. Polls will close around 2:15 CST on Thursday

If you have not read the rules, please do so. They make for a happier contest. Also, this will be the last time the rules will be posted at the top.

Thanks to everyone who has made this contest so successful so far. Last year we had around 115,000 page views for the whole contest. This morning we had over 77,000 so far. I really appreciate you investing your time in this contest and encouraging others to do the same. You rock!

We had a request for the TV Talk Topic to be posted in the comments instead of just above so I'm including it here too.

  6. 1. Neither - I don't watch Poldark and i won't vote for Arrow after that terrible Season 3

    2. Helena - Just like all other clones, she is just AMAZING

    3. Elizabeth - I don't like Damon, he was amazing character in S1-S3 but now i hate him

    4. Annalise - Amazing just like all other HTGAWM characters

    5. Jessica - But this is probably the hardest one yet. Both are absolutely amazing new characters

    6. Neither - I don't watch Major Crimes and i won't vote for TBBT. It got so boring just like all of their characters. Same jokes every week, it is getting annoying. Sad, since i loved this show

    7. Tyrion - There are better characters from GOT for me, but Tyrion is still in my TOP 5

    8. Renard - Just wow, i had no idea he was the most popular character

  7. Annalise is awesome!!

  8. Madam Secretary is losing, but I didn't really expect her to win anyway. Annalise losing by so much is surprising to me, but I hope she can come back and win! Jessica Huang should win too, but it isn't looking too good for her either. It looks like the only character I might be supporting in Round 2 is Clarke Griffin, as Henry Morgan lost and these three are currently losing.

  12. My Votes

Ross Poldark: Brooding like no one else come, Aidan Turner was pretty much born to play this role.

Helena: Now I will admit Helena wouldn't be my first or even second clone of choice but I still really love her.

Buffy: No contest. Buffy is my idol. BTVS is one of the first shows I was really fannish about and a huge part of that is because of Ms Summers. Smart, brave, tough, perky when she needs to be, loyal, a true leader.

Peggy: I do like Jessica but Peggy owns my MCU loving heart and is one of my favourite characters in that ever expanding franchise. She fights the good fight without powers and often without any support.

Tyrion: Simply one of my favourite GOT characters and I feel like the TV version is even better than the book. Peter Dinklage brings wit, charm and heartbreak to the role.

My TV watch-list is so long though I am proud to say I've made a lot of progress this year. I rewatched The Wire which I've been wanting to do for ages and Rome and caught up with more recent shows like The 100 and right now POI.

The one show I keep starting then stopping is The X-Files, I am determined to eventually get around to it all, hopefully before the mini series next year.

I have a lot of shows I want to rewatch, Lost, Fringe, Alias, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos. And a few to watch for the first time like Oz, Homicide Life On The Streets and Nikita - I have the boxsets for these so no excuse!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Helena is crazily awesome but Job is even more awesome. So my vote goes to him.

    ReplyDelete
  14. - Oliver Queen (!) I really hope he wins. Oliver may have started out as a vigilante and not as a hero, I myself had some issues with him in season 1, but he grew A LOT. He has been one of the consistently written characters on the show. He is driven by love and passion, even when he was so closed off. He didn't allow himself to feel because he feels so much and he thinks his love hurts the people he cares about. His journey in season 3 was painful and frustrating at times but he grew stronger for it, and he learned a lot from it. He is definitely one of the best heroes out there.
    - I don't watch either.
    - I only watch TVD but I hate Damon so I won't vote for him even if he's representing the show.
    - Buffy. One of the strongest female characters in the history of TV.
    - This one was tough but I went with Jessica. Mainly because I knew a lot would be voting for Carter, and because I haven't finished the first season of AC yet :D
    - Sheldon. I'm sad Amy didn't make it :(
    - I don't watch Bones anymore but even when I did Brennan wasn't particularly my favourite.
    - House. He was a jerk most of the time, but he was a genius. His character was very complicated and very well written and acted.

    ReplyDelete
  15. My votes went to: Oliver Queen, Elizabeth McCord, Analise Keating, Sheldon Cooper, Bones, and House. All of those were pretty easy for me except Elizabeth vs. Damon. I like both, but I went with Elizabeth because I like Tea Leoni more, and I know Damon will win anyway.

My tv watch list is very long, too. The shows that usually get put to the top are ones that are still on and don’t have a lot of episodes yet. If they’ve been on the air for a really long time or if they’ve been cancelled, I tend to keep putting them off. Prison Break is a great example. It has been on my Netflix “to watch” list for literally years, but other shows that are still on the air took priority.

My shows at the top of my “watch list” are The 100 (season 2) and Person of Interest. I chose these two because I have heard so many amazing things about these shows especially from Spoiler TV.

I actually do have them written down in a notebook. I feel like it keeps getting longer and longer. Every time I finish a show it seems that I add 3 more.

If I had unlimited time I would marathon Supernatural. I watched the first season earlier this
summer, and I liked it, but 10 seasons is so long. I knew it would take forever for me to watch it,
and I wanted to catch up on newer shows. I will watch it eventually, though.

I have marathoned shows I’ve already watched. They have to be very special shows,
though. Sometimes I just rewatch certain
seasons of shows instead of the whole thing.

  16. Helena&Buffy today. LOVE both Job&Annalise too.. Wish they weren't against each other :(

TV Watch List of shows I've completed one or more seasons but am not caught up because I'm a terrible binge watcher and life gets in the way lol: The Americans(early s2), GOT(early s3), Banshee(early s2), OITNB(end s2), Breaking Bad(early s3).. probably more. Any suggestions which I should continue first?!
-- Then the shows I've always wanted to get to but haven't are BSG,Justified, & POI. Justified is the only I have easy access as it is on Amazon Prime. Caught the first episode & loved it, but haven't gotten to anymore of it.

  17. Buffy, Sheldon Cooper and Tyrion.

As for my TV to watch list, there isn't too many shows I actually want to check out.

I've heard a lot of good things about Agent Carter so I might check that one out, but I wasn't a fan of SHIELD so I doubt I would enjoy it. The only other two shows I want to check out - that are currently on television - are Penny Dreadful and Hell on Wheels. I love western movies which is the biggest draw for me, but it's just the matter of finding time to watch it. I only watch around 13 shows yearly that are on air, and it takes a lot to draw me into a show - it has to have a fantastic pilot to get me hooked. I rarely give a show three or even two episodes to get going, the pilot is make or break for me when deciding whether to stick with a show.

The only ended show I want to watch one day is Deadwood. Again, it's a matter of finding time, but I'm not in a rush to view it.

I would love to re-watch LOST again. I typically manage to re-watch at least one of my shows a year from the beginning. Last year I re-watched Game of Thrones in preparation for the new season and this year I've started to re-watch Person of Interest.

  22. Oh my... Peggy vs. Jessica? o_o can't decide.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Annalise, of course she gets my support! More than 23 hours left, so at least we can try to get her win this round.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The list of shows that I still want/need to watch is endless!
Suits, Jane the Virgin, Parenthood, Inside Amy Schumer, Breaking Bad, Reno 911, etc etc etc

    ReplyDelete
  25. My 'Shows-To Watch' top of list actually got taken down a few days ago as I finally started Game of Thrones. After that monster is finished, it's either Orphan Black or Person of Interest. Neither I know much about, but both are meant to be insanely awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Omg I love 1d!!! Damon Buffy and house are all doing really well (so deserved!). Only one not happy about is bones, I find her to be one of the most underrated character on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  27. My next to watch is the Americans, white collar and suits.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 1. Oliver Queen by default but I really like Oliver anya

    2. I won't vote. I don't watch Banshee and while I would normally happily vote for the amazing Orphan Black, I don't appreciate the Helena character enough and I still think they should have killed her off earlier on. I would have gladly voted for any of the other clones though

    3. Such a strange, strange mash up lol. I don't think two more different characters could be picked. I won't vote. I like both both characters but I really have no idea how to compare both

    4. Annalise by default

    5. I hate, hate, hate this poll! These are two characters I really wanted to support in the competition. Urgh. However, as much as I like Jessica, there really is no doubt for me that it is Peggy all the way. I am not really sure there is someone in the competition that would make me vote against her. I adore her and I have the biggest crush ever on Hayley Atwell

    6. Sheldon by default. I've watched the first two episodes of Major Crimes because of my adoration for Mary McDonnell but it really wasn't for me and I didn't like that I wouldn't get all the references from The Closer (which I had never watched).

    7. This one is super hard. I love both characters but I am actually voting for Temperance here on an upset. I like Tyrion and I like GOT generally better but I adore the Bones character, she is the main reason I keep enjoying the show after 10 years, she is too awesome. And Tyrion will win anyway

    8. Sean Renard is a cool character, but it has to be House here, one of the best characters I've seen around (please join me in pretending Season 7 never actually happened and was just a bad dream when talking about this)

Ouch, they were tougher than usual today!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Helena vs Job is cruel, but Job all the way. Also Buffy, Carter and Tyrion.

Watch lists: Well, it's a neverending list, isn't it? When you finish one show from your list, ten other take its place.

I finished recently AQUARIUS (I liked it, not too much the Mason part, but the rest was pretty good), ALPHAS (damn that cliffhanger, fabulous season finale, awful way to end a series), TRUE DETECTIVE Season 1 (just...wow...I get now why everyone kept talking about this show), I have a few episodes left to finish THE LAST SHIP Season 1 (so far, so good).

New shows to watch: VIKINGS, WHITE COLLAR, JERICHO, GRIMM, WOLF HALL, COVERT AFFAIRS, THE AMERICANS, RIPPER STREET AND CAPRICA, they are all on my Netflix list. Also, THE X-FILES, something I've never watched entirely. Oh, and STRIKE BACK, I already have the first 3 seasons, need to start watching that one.

I don't really have a criteria to select which show I will watch first, depends on my mood, I guess, or sometimes when I know a new season is coming, especially a 2nd season of a popular new show, I will catch up with that one so I can watch the new season at the same time everyone else does.

I have several show I love that want to watch again from the start, some I had started but dropped them in the middle, like CHUCK, 24, DARK ANGEL, not for any particular reason other than I didn't have the time for them AND new episodes of everything else. Currently, I'm half way through the first season of SUPERNATURAL, makes me remember why I love the show in the first place.

And I would like to watch again PERSON OF INTEREST, PRISON BREAK, BANSHEE, among others, but unless I can get myself a clon, I don't see that happening any time soon.

  30. So my watch-list:

    1. Agents of Shield- Season 2
I am currently on episode 17 "Melinda". I have absolutely been loving this season! It is great and their is so much development in both characters and storyline.

    2. Person of Interest- Seasons 1-4
I have only been hearing positive things about this show and I am anxious to watch. The problem is that I have no idea where since it does not come to Netflix until November or so. I hope it does not end after season 5!

    3. Daredevil- Season 1
Joy recommended this to me and I have seen some scenes and they are absolutely amazing! I really want to watch it

    4. Agent Carter- Season 1
Ombin has repeatedly said that I would love it and since I love AoS I am sure I would!!!!

I do not really have time for any other shows since I will have to much in the fall let alone mid-season! But can someone recommend sth to me: a thriller with many twists and turns, very serialized, on the air right now and very dramatic!

  31. My votes:

    1. Ross Poldark (This is my toughest vote in round 1. I'm sorry Oliver. I'll make amends next round.)
    2. N/A
    3. Elizabeth McCord
    4. N/A
    5. Peggy Carter
    6. N/A
    7. Tyrion Lannister (My favorite Tyrion quote: "A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone." After I heard that, I knew that he was a kindred spirit.) : )
    8. N/A

    TV Talk Topic: TBC

  32. I'm so so happy Vanessa and Mickey made it through :) I expected Vanessa to make it but not Mickey.

    1. N/A - Dropped Arrow in season 2 and never watched Poldark
    2. N/A - Tried both Orphan Black and Banshee but didn't like either of them
    3. N/A - Would have voted for literally any other TVD character but Damon, Elena and Bonnie. Never watched Madam Secretary.
    4. Annalise Keating - I dropped Buffy but she was an excellent character, I prefer Annalise though.
    5. Peggy Carter - Love this show and adore this character, I tried FOTB but didn't like it.
    6. Sheldon Cooper - He was my favourite character until Amy came along but I still really like him. Never watched Major Crimes.
    7. Temperance Brennan - Dropped both GOT and Bones but I loved Brennan.

    8. N/A - Tried Grimm but didn't like it and never watched House MD.

TV Talk Topic - Bates Motel, Between, Chosen, Desperate Housewives, Doctor Who, Dracula, Entourage, Friday Night Lights, Primeval, Primeval: New World, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Prison Break, The Messengers, Veep, Workaholics.

My watchlist and what season I'm currently on
Bates Motel (S1E2), Between (S1E2), Chosen (Not started), Stitchers (S1E2),
Desperate Housewives (End of S6), Doctor Who (Mid S4), Dracula (S1E2),
Entourage (End of S3), Friday Night Lights (S1E2), Primeval (Start of S2),
Primeval: New World (Not Started), It's Always Sunny In Philapdelphia (End of S1),
Prison Break (Mid S1), The Messengers (S1E2), Veep (Mid S2), Workaholics (Early S1).

What shows top your to-watch list?
It's been a while since I've been able to catch up on any of those but Entourage and Bates Motel are at the top atm, Desperate Housewives was but it got kinda boring so it moved down. Doctor Who got kind of boring too so that moved down as well.

What criteria gets a show on your to-watch list and what puts something to the top?
Either looking for old shows I missed or hearing about it from other people. Also temporarily dropping a show to watch later either waiting to see if it's renewed (like Stitchers) or it's just not entertaining me enough to watch weekly (like season 2 of Defiance). If it sounds like a show I'd love it moves to the top and if love the pilot it stays there.

Do you ever drop something from your to-watch list?
Yup, a lot, when I tried to get into those teen soaps that I skipped over (Gossip Girl, 90210, OTH etc) I started with Gossip Girl but tired of it fast and dropped all the others from my watlist except Friday Night Lights because I really liked it's pilot. Doctor Who and GOT have gone on and off my watchlist a few times as well but GOT won't be back on it ever again.

Are you currently marathoning anything? Have you marathoned shows you've already seen?
I'm not marathoning anything new atm but I've been rewatching Battlestar Galactica but very slowly lol it can hardly be called a marathon. I rewatch old shows a lot, especially TBBT which I just throw on as background noise a lot.

Do you have a to-watch list actually written down somewhere or is it in your head?

I have an app with all past, present and future shows I have/am/will be watching so I use that. I can check off the episodes I've seen too so it makes things really easy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ross Poldark & Tyrion were easy votes, as for Job v Helena, that's been the one match up I've been dreading for the last few days! I've been mulling it over and finally decided to go with Helena purely due to the growth that she has had in Orphan Black since she first appeared. I adore both characters though, so it's been tough and I feel like I let Job down :(

Gawd, shows on my marathon list, where to start!? I've finally just finished getting caught up on Arrow, and am now planning to start Vikings next (I had gotten behind with Humans while on Arrow, so had to watch a few of them to get caught up this last week). I still need to finish up Boardwalk Empire, Ripper Street and Rescue Me. I'd also like to get a sneaky Luther rewatch in before the next season starts as it's been so long since I saw them.

Then there's some shows that I love to rewatch again and again, Being Human (UK), Oz, Deadwood, Carnivale, The Shield, Merlin and Doctor Who. I'm also running a rewatch of The Musketeers soon too.

  35. 1. Oliver by default.
    2. Helena by default.
    3. Damon by default.
    4. Annelise by default.
    5. Oh, HELL NO. Why? Why? I voted for Jessica though because she's currently losing.
    6. Sheldon by default.

    TV TOPIC:
---If you had unlimited time, which of the TV shows have you never gotten around to but always wanted to watch would you marathon?---
Ugh, there are 50+ shows on my QueueList, picking just one is harder than I thought but I went with Lost.

---Why did you choose this one?---
Well, it's a classic. And people just won't shut up about it. And there are such polarizing opinions about the way it ended, I wanna know what that is all about.

---What shows top your to-watch list? What criteria gets a show on your to-watch list and what puts something to the top?---
I'm a horrible picker, I just can't make up my mind. I'd probably spend as much time thinking about what to watch as watching the show I picked, so I choose them randomly. The five shows that got picked last summer and that I'm in the middle of catching up on: FRIENDS, Friday Night Lights, Lost, Wilfred & The O.C.

---Do you ever drop something from your to-watch list?---
No, not really. Once a cancelled/finished show is on there, it usually stays there until I start watching it and from there, I'll decide if I like it enough to watch the entire show.

    ---Are you currently marathoning anything?---
Nope, I planned on watching the last three seasons of Lost but real-life is sucking up of all my time right now. I'm even behind on regular summer programming, something I never thought would happen.

---Have you marathoned shows you've already seen?---
I marathoned Grey's Anatomy and The Last Airbender/The Legend Of Korra but I'm not really big on marathoning an old show, expect for the reruns of Malcolm in the Middle on weekdays. I'd rather spend that time starting something new from my QueueList.

---Do you have a to-watch list actually written down somewhere or is it in your head?---
For current shows, I have four lists in Wunderlist to keep track of everything I'm watching.

For cancelled/finished shows, I have a Google Spreadsheet where I keep track of shows I've already watched and the ones I plan on watching. I sometimes legitimately get scared by how many shows are on that sheet.

    ReplyDelete
  36. so how I choose which show I'm going to put on my watch list:

    1. First of all I check out how much buzz it has and how it is received by the fans. I started the 100 and AoS only because all these people were raving about it and saying how excellent both have become.

    2. I look if it is at the verge of cancellation or near the ending because I would rather binge-watch something that I can still watch for at least a whole new season.

    3. I usually check out a scene. I stumbled upon that scene from POI where shaw sacrifices herself. That scene blew my mind even though I have not even watched the show! That just showed me that I will love when I can finally (!!!) Watch it.

    4. Then I see if it is even available! I cannot watch most cable shows because I live in Germany and cannot have cable channels on UnoTelly! Only GOT I can watch because the Germans show it on sky

  37. Yeah, the current standings with that poll are a little surprising to me, too...but then again, Buffy's been a beloved TV character for years, and that show is still fondly remembered and loved by many, so I also understand why she'd be in the lead, too. Still, that's another poll that I'll be watching particularly closely.
And since I've seen a little of "Big Bang Theory" here and there, I also decided to throw in a vote for ol' Sheldon, just 'cause :).

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow. Today does not seem to be my day. Most off my picks seem to be on the losing side. But than again, the day is still young ;-)

    So, let me see:

Oliver vs Ross --> ROSS. I am an Arrow-Fan, and I like Oliver, but Poldark really surprised me. I found it by accident, intending only to watch one episode, but than, a Sunday later, I emerged bleared eye and emotionally drained behind my screen and I knew I had found a new "friend".

Helena vs Job --> HELENA by default.

Damon vs Elizabeth --> ELIZABETH. This one was though. And I almost did not vote at all. The thing is, I really like Damon, there was even a time, when I loved him. But after everything that happened, I can't stand TVD anymore. Which is a shame.

Annelise vs Buffy --> BUFFY! Hello! Buffy was my first real, giant TV obsession. I was 13-ish when I watch the first episode at my Grandparents house while they were out. I fell in love and my family almost staged an intervention because they thought it very weird that their little girl kept talking about vampires and blood sucking and cemeteries... ;-)... They tried to forbid it... unsuccessful. At the end I was allowed to watch Buffy under parental supervision. ... :-)... Every week, my mom shook her head the entire 60 mins. She just couldn't understand what I found so appealing.

Carter vs Jessica. JESSICA. I just like her. A lot.

Sharon vs Sheldon --> SHARON by default.

Tyrion vs Brennon --> TYRION. Enough said.

Renard vs House --> House by default.

    TV To-Watch Lists
I might be one of the few people who does not have a watch list.

    ReplyDelete
  39. And this is why you don't want to get on Annalise's bad side, people :p.

    ReplyDelete
  40. what?! How did Sean Renard get here, didn't think he nor Grimm was THAT popular. Sucks he has no chance.
Renard, Tyrion, BUFFY!, and Peggy Carter for me

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love the story about your grandparents :p. I was lucky in that regard as a kid-the main concern my parents had when it came to what I wanted to watch was whether or not the show (or movie) would give me nightmares. Otherwise, they were pretty cool with my sister and me watching whatever. And most of my grandparents were long gone either before or shortly after I was born, so that took care of that issue.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 1. Oliver
    4. Buffy
    5. Peggy
    7. Brennan
    8. House

    ReplyDelete
  43. I second the recommendations for Daredevil and Agent Carter! I love both of them.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The constant talk about "The 100" and "Person of Interest" are a big reason why I've added those shows to my list, too :). And "Agents of SHIELD" I'm increasingly curious about simply because of the way the fans talk about the actors and the characters :). They sound like interesting, fun, entertaining people. And then I heard so much good stuff about the second season of the show as well, so that has me intrigued, too.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I honestly never thought to look for an app. I found one one iOS, TV Series, just a few mins ago. I've already added 5 shows and it is so neat and organized. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Agreed on Annalise...and yet, I actually think she'd be cool with conceding to Buffy. I get the feeling she'd admire her :D.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Buffy, Peggy, Sheldon and Tyrion for me today.

    ReplyDelete
  48. No problem :) I went through a few others to find it, most have the exact same features but very different UI.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Voting: Oliver, Helena, Annalise (Buffy on list shows that i planning to watch one day...), Carter, House MD.

    Topic:
I have too many tv shows to watch on a list, some of them are before my time (e.g. Alias, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) some i never watched when they aired (e.g. Warehouse 13) and some still in air (e.g. Teen Wolf, The Fall, Luther) . Plus i want to rewatch Fringe, first 3 seasons and some episodes from 4 and 5 seasons of Supernatural and lately started to want to rewatch Burn Notice. Few months ago i finally finished to watch The X-Files, Twin Peaks.
Wich one i would start depends on my mood. At the moment i can't decide what i want start to marathon before my fall tv shows is back and new fall shows starts.
I do have written them down. If tv shows premise sounds good, clips/gif sets looks good, interesting, something that i would watch and fans says good things, constantly talks about tv show I would add to my list.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Only voting and rooting for: Peggy Carter and Tyrion Lannister

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thank you, I will check it out too.

    ReplyDelete
  52. HOUSE, my favourite character of all time.
Also: Annalise! My female vote. Cannot fathom that she'll lose.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wow surprised that The Flash didn't make it!! Happy that Veronica Mars gets to continue. For today it is Mr. Queen, Mr. Salvatore, Ms. Summers, Ms. Carter, Mr. Cooper, Dr Brennan and Dr. House and Helena.

    ReplyDelete
  54. House is phenomenal.

    ReplyDelete
  55. White Collar and Suits are great!

    ReplyDelete
  56. It's just not the type of show for me I'm afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  57. If you had unlimited time, which of the TV shows have you never gotten
around to but always wanted to watch would you marathon?

My current list is quite large. It includes [You can take the order more or less as a priority thing, although it really is subject to change]

    Drama
    - Extant (finally started it, I've watched the first two episodes of Season 1 this weekend)
    - Marvel's Daredevil
    - Sense8
    - Bloodline
    - Banshee
    - House of Cards S3
    - Penny Dreadful
    - iZombie
    - The Musketeers
    - Bates Motel
There are also shows that would vaguely interest me if I would ever get done with this ever growing list like Ray Donovan, Salem, 12 Monkeys, Crossing Lines or Dominion, but I don't think this list is really ever ending so I think they are long shots at this point.

    Comedy
    - Veep
    - Sillicon Valley
    - A 4th ABC comedy, either The Middle or The Goldbergs

I am also still behind on some of my regular season shows that I need to catch up on. And this year I feel like I am watching more summer shows than ever, there is a lot on that I am actually really digging. Finally, there are some classic cult shows that I have never watched that I would like one day to do like 24 or 30 Rock but I think chances of that happening are really slim too.

    What criteria gets
a show on your to-watch list and what puts something to the top?

It is a mix of stuff but I think I can sum it up essentially as three things:
    1) My own interest in the show
    2) Online buzz/ other people's recommendations (and Spoiler TV actually plays a big role here because I know the tastes of a lot of people and if I know they tend to like the same stuff as me that recommendation will count more, not to mention initiatives like the Pitch your Show thing which really increased my list)
    3) My need to replace something that I like and have no more of. For instance, I always find myself in need of binge watching new comedies in the summer because I generally am better at being caught up with them on the regular season so there are fewer leftovers for summer and there are almost no original comedies on during summer. And I need comedies. Part of my TV show viewing needs the comedy part. Often I have no time or mood to watch a drama and I need a comedy, so I keep needing them in the summer. I've just finished Black-ish, so now I seek another ABC family comedy. I've also finished UKS and I feel like Veep could maybe have a similar humor, not to mention it has been recommended to me a lot.

    Do
you ever drop something from your to-watch list?

Yeah I guess so. It's normally not a conscious decision though, it just happens.

    Are you currently
    marathoning anything?

This summer I've marathoned Aquarius, UKS, The Odd Couple, Black-ish, second half of Outlander, 1st season of The Last Ship (loved it!), The Night Shift S2, The Slap, second half of The Good Wife, second half of The Following S3 and probably others I am forgetting.

Have you marathoned shows you've already seen?
Only Lost, twice, and that is because of how special that thing is for me. I don't see myself doing it honestly. With such a large list of shows I want to watch I feel that the opportunity cost of spending TV-watching hours re-watching old stuff is not worthy it for me. It is a personal thing.

    Do
you have a to-watch list actually written down somewhere or is it in
    your head?

Not written down, but I use the PODESIGN TV Calender to monitor all my tv viewing. If you don't use it, I highly recommend it. You mark the shows you watch and from then you have multiple sections of use: an awesome calendar section that tells you which of your shows are on every day, an awesome section that tells you cool stats like the total amount of hours you spent watching each show and stuff and then a section that tells you which of your selected shows you still have episodes pending. When I don't know what to watch I go there and see what I have pending and take it from there.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I use PODESIGN TV CALENDAR, which has the same effect I believe, it is awesome

    ReplyDelete
  59. I am very happy with your watch list. Daredevil is also quite high on my watch list, the others I fully support. I love convincing you to try out shows ahah. Sometimes it doesn't work out but it is fine anway (The Walking Dead), other times you really love them (Shield, Secrets and Lies). I hope you add Agent Carter to the second group, Peggy is one of my favorite character of all time, she is amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  60. "Tyrion Lannister (My favorite Tyrion quote: "A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone." After I heard that, I knew that he was a kindred spirit.) : )!

--> That is so cool Exactly the same quote got my attention, too... way back in season 1!

I know I'll be in the minority on this one but here's my pitch on why Sharon Raydor over Sheldon Cooper: Sheldon annoys me for multiple reasons but basically it boils down to he started off in the first season as a quirky social misfit and has officially migrated into "can no longer be defined as human" territory. He's at best a whiney brat who really needs someone to smack him upside the head. Seriously if you met him in real life do you think you could survive a five minute discussion without trying to take his head off.

As for Sharon, she's always been a paragon figure which is saying something considering she's supposed to be an LAPD captain.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sorry I've been AWOL. One of my kiddos had car trouble. Here's my TV Talk Topic:

If I had unlimited time, I would marathon all the shows on my list that have 50+ episodes. The number of episodes a show has is one of my biggest factors in where it goes on my to-watch list. Currently the first shows I would watch if I had enough time would be The Middle and Battlestar Galactica. Both got bumped higher up my list during the Pitch Your Show nominations because of enthusiastic fan response. Generally shows make my list because someone here who knows my taste recommends them to me but I also find shows I want to marathon through the nominated episodes in my column. It is the reason why I need to finish watching Dexter and Merlin.

I try to bump one show to the top of my list every summer based on the summer contests and Pitch Your Show. This year that show is Battlestar Galactica. Sometimes shows get bumped up depending on what I feel like watching at that time. Shows rarely get taken off but I do bump them down based on arbitrary things like it having an incomplete ending (HIMYM), certain genres (sorry Hell on Wheels), sometimes obnoxious fandoms, another similar show taking its place, and other things. Right now I need to get done with the fall and summer shows I am behind on. I'm currently on the last episode of The Blacklist. This half season has been awesome. Next is to get caught up on summer shows. The top non-summer show for me is Vikings. I rarely have time anymore to marathon shows I already watched but I do spend time watching an episode here of there. My favorite is Cold Case when it comes on Ion. Love that show and since it still isn't out on DVD or streaming, Ion is really the only place I can see it.

My to-watch list is on little index cards all around my computer. One day I will get organized because there are a ton of shows I forget in the process. Of the ones latest added to the list to either finish or watch all of, it includes in no real order: About a Boy, The Middle, Mike and Molly, Mom, Psych, Girl Meets World, Hindsight, Vikings, The Strain, The Americans, Bates Motel, Dig, Halt and Catch Fire, TURN, Jane the Virgin, Manhattan, Reign, Royal Pains, Secrets and Lies, Bitten, Daredevil, Sense8, Grace and Frankie, Homeland, Mysteries at the Museum, Primeval, BSG, Covert Affairs, Justified, Hustle, In the Flesh, Merlin, Dexter, Chuck, Strangers with Candy, Primeval, Prison Break, Broadchurch, Doctor Who, Banshee, The Honourable Woman, Orphan Black, The Fall, Hawaii 5-O, NCIS (all installations), Nikita, Criminal Minds, Blue Bloods, Defiance, Falling Skies, Lizzie Borden Chronicles, Outlander, Powers, Resurrection, The Returned, The Good Witch, Motive, When Calls the Heart, Body of Proof, Crossing Lines, and Rookie Blue. The summer shows I need to watch first include: Wayward Pines, The Last Ship, Stitchers, R&I, Major Crimes, Between, JS & MN, and Dominion. It's going to take a lifetime to catch up. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  63. #5 was very difficult for me too. 2 of my favorite new characters going up against each other.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yes,it IS cool. : )! I think most fans like to remember Tyrion for his more bawdy quotes, but this is the one that I think epitomizes the character as well as the.quote that I can identify with the most. It's nice to know that I'm not alone. : )

    ReplyDelete
  65. That she is. A powerful, dynamic woman played by another talent, dynamic woman.

    ReplyDelete
  66. That's actually awesome. I wish I had a better filter system so my list weren't so long. My Netflix TV queue is so long they won't allow me to add anymore on it until I get rid of some.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think it will end up close. I never count Buffy out on SpoilerTV though because she wins more often than not here. She'll never take the top prize but she's usually through to round 3 at least.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The Americans, Justified, FNL, Homeland, and Prison Break are on my list too.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ha! Poldark is a broody character and a fabulous one at that. Buffy was one of my first TV obsessions too. I found her to be a great role model for my teen students and she was a taking point for soem of them. I think one of the reasons I love Carter too is because she doesn't have powers and has to use her own brains and canny to pull off the job while everyone else around her belittles her. She is awesome and I'm so glad she's coming back.

So glad you are making progress on your TV lise. The Wire has been on mine forever. I have some boxsets too that are just waiting to be opened.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Amy was nominated for TBBT but not even close to Sheldon. I prefer her too so maybe she'll get more nominations next year.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I like current shows too, especially if they don't take long to get caught up on. Anything over 50 hours is a real time commitment that i can't make very often. So glad The 100 is on your list. Season 2 was better than season 1, and I really liked season 1. I totally understand about Supernatural. I'm not sure I would want to jump in to a show with over 200 episodes. That's a LOT of commitment.

    ReplyDelete
  72. The brackets were not kind ot me either this time. I hear you abotu life getting in the way. Sometimes other TV gets in the way as well. I watched most of season 1 of The Americans so I can't wait to catch up on that one. BSG and Justified are high on my list right now because of other people's recommendations.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Lucky you. I feel like I am swimming in missed TV. I look forward to hopefully finishing The Blacklist tonight if I get the Teen Wolf recap done fast enough. I highly recommend Agent Carter. I am likely dropping SHIELD after I finish the last few episodes of this season but I really enjoyed Agent Carter. It doesn't feel like SHIELD to me except that they are both definitely based in comic world. If you are not a fan of comic-based shows, it might not be for you but I would suggest giving it a try otherwise.

I used to give every new show 3 episodes, but since I've started my column I just can't. This season pilots and going to be make or break for me too. There are simply too many new shows on TV these days.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I feel your pain. I decided not to vote until the end and then vote for whoever is losing. I'm not a fan of how the brackets fell in this section at all.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Annalise has a good chance if the fandom hears about the poll. Buffy is hard competition since she's one of the most beloved and still talked about female characters but evry character has a chance as yesterday proved.

    ReplyDelete
  76. My to-watch list is endless too. Jane the Virgin is on mine as well. I still need to check out Parenthood simply for the actors.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Good for you. It always feels good to check a show off my lsit. I'm hoping to do that with The Blacklist tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'm glad you love this section of the brackets. Brennan is actually a pretty frequent character in this contest and she usually gets at least to round 2. She has some tough competition this time though. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I adore White Collar and The Americans is on my lsit as well.

    ReplyDelete
  80. So now people don't like Annalise Keaton?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I hate #5 as well. They are two of my favorite new characters. This is the section of the bracket thatI wish had gotten mixed. I agree that there were some really tough polls.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I see you have the 1 to 10 issue too. SpoilerTV creates an endless list of shows I still haven't seen but must watch. I'm impressed by how much you are getting off your list. I have 2 episodes of Last Ship to be caught up. I love that show. Vikings is a main priority for me too. Covert Affairs and The Americans make my list too. Catching up to a season is a priority for me as well. I often watch early SPN as comfort food. What is and What Should Never Be is my cure for the awful day a lot. Beresford Agenda from Dark Angel is my go-to moody TV.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Although i am not loving it like you, finishing SHIELD season 2 is my next priority. Daredevil is high on the lsit too. I second the Agent Carter recommendation. She rocks! As for a thriller, I've only seen the first two episodes so far but Wayward Pines seems to fit the requirements.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Fantastic quote. The librarian in me loves it. Even if he doesn't win today, I'm hoping Ross' nominations will spark people to try out Poldark.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Mickey is the biggest shock of the contest. Shameless fans did an awesome job of getting the word out and turning the contest on its head. Buffy and Annalise were 2 of my favorite characters for totally different reasons so it was difficult for me.

Glad you are giving Primeval: New World a chance. I stumbled upon it last time and really enjoyed it. I wish it had gotten a second season. Argh, this reminds me that I never finished Messengers either. Time to get going on that one too.

I often halt shows midseason and put them on the to-watch list too. The Blacklist is a show I hate weekly but in marathon it transforms into one of my more enjoyable shows. I just think some shows are made for marathoning. I never wait to see if something is renewed but I often drop shows midseason because they get crowded out and then catch up on them in May or June (or July as is the case this year.)

Ha! I use TBBT and often times procedurals I've already seen as background noise too. I like shows I know so well that I can walk off and come back in without skipping a beat too. Thanks for sharing about the app. I am looking forward to seeing if it can help organize me.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Very cool. I'm going to look for it myself and hopefully get rid of all these index cards.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Agreed, that's a tough one to be up against. But she is a very strong character...you too good luck'

    ReplyDelete
  88. Thanks to everyone for sharing the apps they use for organizing their TV watching. I look forward to trying some out and getting rid of all my index cards.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Ooooh Annalise against Buffy! Hardest choice I've had to make so far.

    ReplyDelete
  90. This bracker has had the worst pairings for me too. Characters I love are against each other and in the others I don't care about either character. Sometimes the numbers come up and bite me. Today is one of those days.

I am hoping to catch up with Vikings before school starts again in August. It's one of those shows I love but I have to have time to give it my full attention and that's always hard. Luther is on my to-watch list as well.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Yay you finished Person of Interest! What did you think?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Yep, that was my reaction to #5 as well. I kind of like the idea of randomly picking something and watching it too. Your criteria, especially the first one, are awesome. Most shows that go to the top of my list are because people here keep mentioning them. I also have a whole list of shows I simply did not have time for. Last summer, I couldn't believe how many new shows were on so I was completely behind on them. I still haven't finished The Strain ro The Lottery yet. Real life sucks sometimes. I love how organized you are with your shows. That's one of my goals this year.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I just found this hilarious Power Point about why you should be watching Person of Interest if you haven't:

    http://ettadunham.tumblr.com/post/124176109103/i-think-its-time-to-kick-off-the-just-watch

For those who don't know where to watch, the show will arrive on WGN this fall and on Netflix US as well. The first 3 seasons might already be on Netflix UK. Also, buying DVDs might seem old-fashioned but it helps Warner Bros to know there are people interested in their show!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Being available is a huge criteria of mine as well. I wish Netflix would stop changing its catalog because it's driving me batty. I really want to check out In the Flesh but it appears like I'm going to have to wait until I can get it from Amazon. Buzz around here is definitely one of my criteria too, especially from certain people who have similar tastes to mine. I also try every new pilot when I can so that also helps me figure out what to binge watch.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Your list greatly out weighs mine and I see a few I want to add to mine. Mercy. There are some really great shows being listed here.

    ReplyDelete
  96. It'll probably be a while before I get to Primeval, it's right down the bottom of the list. It's kind of rare for me to wait for something to be renewed, I usually only do it with shows I'm not that attached to in the first place, Forever, Constantine and Star-Crossed are other examples although by the end I really missed those last two.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I think that a Sasha Roiz site picked up the nomination page and publicized it because many of the nominations came around the same time catapulting him and Grimm into the contest. Grimm usually does not have a strong presence on SpoilerTV in things liek this. I'm glad the show is getting some extra exposure here though.

    ReplyDelete
  98. It was a big slow to get started but once it did it was brilliant! Exceeded my expectations. I'm honestly ashamed that it took me so long to try it out, but I'm so glad I did. Now there's just the unfortunate wait for S5 :(.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Oliver Queen, Damon Salvatore, Sheldon Cooper and Temperance Brennan

    ReplyDelete
  100. Wow, that's a BIG list. It'd be fantastic to win the lottery, never have to work again, forget about social life, and spend the rest of our lives watching tv shows, not to mention movies (there are a lot I want to watch too).

    ReplyDelete
  101. I'm happy you're happy. It made for a great twist in the contest with Mickey's win. Sorry about the tough poll. Mine were hard this time too. I am hoping that Viola Davis wins the Emmy for her depiction on Annalise. It's just brilliant. I highly recommend Fresh Off the Boat because it's funny but also has heart and Jessica is another strong, fascinating character. Monroe or Trubel would have been my picks for Grimm although I like Renard for his character's potential. I think they waste him most of the time though.

I love that everyone here is more organized about their to-watch list than me. It's giving me great ideas. The number of episodes makes a huge difference for me too. I can't wait to finally see In the Flesh too. It's strange because I hadn't heard of the show before and now suddenly everyone is talking about it so I want to see what all the excitement's about. Scorpion is oneof my favorite new shows this season so I'm glad it's getting more exposure now too. Elementary season 3 was kind of a let down for me because it felt tired. I did end up loving Kitty though so bear with her for the first few episodes. The Musketeers though had a brilliant year, much better than season 1 overall.

I can't wait until you start Fringe. Jsut know the first season is definitely procedural. I can't wait to hear what you think. As for The Last Ship, Liam and I both ranked El Toro dead last in our season 1 episode rankings. It sucked but I like the other episodes enough for it to be my favorite summer show last year.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I think Annalise has a chance but it will take the fandom really pushing this contest to do it. The good thing about Annalise is that she will likely only get more popular as people find the show so her chances of getting in next year are awesome too.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Ha! I agree. They have the same fighting spirit although Buffy is a lot less manipulative about it. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  104. I just finished the TVShow Time app and I love it. I've added 25 shows so far and I'm playing around with it. You add the shows you plan to watch and it gives you airdates and/or countdowns until premiere date. I love this already. You create your own watchlist.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I love how decades later Buffy is still adored. It takes a special character to be remembered that long much less be lauded. I watched Buffy when it first came out and it never fails to amaze me how much more she's loved today than she was even back then.

    ReplyDelete
  106. She's up against one of the most beloved fan favorite icons of the last 15 years. That doesn't mean people don't like AK and I'm fairly sure you know that.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Ha! Marathoning has become my TV life too and I also liek to only do one at a time. It helps me focus and keep plots straight. If a show starts dragging then I will put it away for later and get a new one out though. I loved early Gilmore Girls and I'm looking to catch up on all the NCIS installments...once I remember where I left off.

Internet chatter is my biggest source of TV inspiration too along with watching most new pilots although I do tend to try to avoid spoilers for most of them so I don't go into show-specific websites. One of these days I am going to rewatch ST:NG since I haven't seen it since it first aired and I'm sure I will see it in a whole new light now. While I do hope you get to The 100, I completely understand not being ready for it because it does get veryintense.

    ReplyDelete
  108. YOU LET JOB DOWN!!! HOW DARE YOU???? :P
No worries, all is forgiven because it's Helena, but just this once ;)

    ReplyDelete
  109. You have some excellent shows on your to-watch lsit. I loved Buffy, Warehouse 13 (except last season which was awful), SPN (first 7 seasons), X-Files (pre-Mulder leaving), and Burn Notice. I started Alias earlier this year and need to pick it back up again when I have time. I also want to watch The Fall.

  110. Wow! You are impressive. I can't imagine clearing my to-watch list. Good for you. I totally get having no patience. I ended up binging the first seasons of Dexter and Merlin when i was only going to watch the first two episodes. it didn't go well with having to get up early to go to my job. Glad the competition reminded you of how much you love Alias. I watched a few episodes so I am looking to marathon it when I can.

    ReplyDelete
  111. If she does, I think she will have an excellent chance of getting even more nominations and a better placement on the brackets next year.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Barry going out is the surprise of the contest. I'm kind of hoping we get some more surprises today because it makes the contest so much more fun. I'm pretty psyched to see Veronica going through as well.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Thanks!! The bookworm in me loves it too. : )

I'm just happy Ross made it into the Character Cup, and.like you, I hope that his participation in the competition garners Poldark more viewers. That would be a win for Ross and the show.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Actually I've barely even heard of Buffy before, which is probably because it was apparently on UPN and WB

    ReplyDelete
  115. Always good to bet on her in any competition :). It seems fitting that a tough character like her can fight it out so well in these sorts of competitions.

    ReplyDelete
  116. This made me seriously laugh, thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Yeah, that's the big barrier in my case, too. I'd probably see a lot more of these shows a lot sooner, but my family doesn't have Netflix, and we have issues sometimes with watching things online (we keep getting the whole "Need Adobe Flash Player" thing when trying to watch things sometimes-not with everything, but some sites have that as an issue),.
And then some of these shows either have yet to do reruns or if they do, it might be on a channel we don't get or they're not always consistent with the reruns, and there's some shows I feel I need to start them from the very beginning otherwise I'll be lost. So then it's basically down to finding the DVDs in stores, and we don't always have the extra money for THAT many series, so...it slows things down a lot, for sure.
But one way or another, I'll work on getting there. Maybe once I'm a little more sorted financially I'll look into getting an account on Amazon or iTunes where I can pay to get new episodes or something.

    ReplyDelete
  118. When the talent is this high, there are no wrong choices. It's so hard!

    ReplyDelete
  119. My ever growinglist is very pliable at the moment too. Daredevil is high on my list because of all the buzz it got and I liked the pilot. Sense8 and Bates Motel are farther down on my list but still there too. As for comedies I would highly recommend The Goldbergs. It's takes a few episodes for the characters to calm down but they do laughs and heart combined like no one's business. Thatbeing said, The Middle is high on my to-watch lsit too.

SpoilerTV and my podcast partners are the first people I go to when looking to see if I should start a new show. Since I've been here for half a decade, I have gotten to know a lot of people and like you said, I now know those who have similar tastes as me. It helps cut through a lot of other shows when I see their opinion. I love Pitch Your Show and these contests as well because they help round out my list too.

I am so happy that you loved The Last Ship. I thought it was the best new summer show last year. As soon as I finish The Blacklist (hopefully tonight), I plan of getting caught up on teh last 2 episodes. Hopefully then Wayward Pines and Stitichers before finally finishing SHIELD. I'm still a little leery about the last half of Outlander though but I might jsut skip the last 2 episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  120. For me, it is mostly that Sheldon had very little character development in the first 7 seasons. He had a lot more this season but 7 years is too long to be the same character.

    ReplyDelete
  121. This is true :)!
Have we, or will we, discussed dream crossovers? If not, this discussion about Buffy and Annalise would be a good jumping off point for that.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Ooohhh, nostalgia, The Berrisford Agenda (I had to google that one :P) was the moment I realised Jensen Ackles was a fantastic actor, many believed (or believe, I don't know) he's just a pretty face, but for me, he's wonderful. He was the main reason I started watching Supernatural, and I'm glad I did, despite the last few seasons, it is one of my favorite shows ever.

I told you before, and I'll tell you again. It's your fault and the STV community's fault that I have an ever growing watch list. So....thank you, keep them coming!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Buffy became such an icon that there were college classes actually dedicated to her a decade ago. She was also one of the first empowered teenage characters and Joss Whedon, the creator, has since become an icon in the geek world. In fact, he was just honored at Comic-Con and is one of the few people that commands an audience of thousands just by himself. Buffy's basically a legend while Annalise has only been on screen for 16 episodes. I think Annalise is brilliant but I also think she will do better next year than this one.

    ReplyDelete
  124. That's cool. So can you add any TV show even ones that are pretty old and no longer on air even in reruns?

    ReplyDelete
  125. It and the one after it are the single hardest polls of round 1 for me. Even harder than Scully versus Henry Morgan.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Sorry, I've not been online for an hour or so. Just sorted it :-)

    ReplyDelete
  127. Sorry about that. Disqus tried to eat my post just a minute ago too. It looks like Sandi is on it.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Isn't this way past your bedtime? It's got to be around 2 am where you're at.

    ReplyDelete
  129. We talked spin-offs last year so I wasn't going to do crossovers this year, but I can probably attach it to something else.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Meh, probably best not to ask, lol. Bad flare up means I'm catching little bits of sleep here and there atm :-(

    ReplyDelete
  131. We're going to do a TV Talk Topic about marketing shows and Star-Crossed is going to be a prime example of how to do it all wrong for me. True, the show had a split personality and wasn't exactly sure who they were catering to but that advertising was some of the worst I've ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Mickey is one of my favorite characters, so I'm very happy and he really deserves to go ahead in the competition. It was a tough poll, but not the toughest, I fear some outcomes, for example if both Mickey and Kieren win next round they will go up against each other... I can't even T.T
Viola Davis truly deserves an Emmy... well, actually I'd say more than one!
I'll try FOTB, I really want to know why people love Jessica so much. In The Flesh is just mind blowing, I hope you get the chance to see it... If I'm not mistaken the episodes are all on YouTube, though. I don't even know who Kitty is, I didn't keep up with the news about the show, but thanks for the heads up. I'll be patient with Fringe when I start it and I'll definitely tell you how I feel about it. That's why I want to restart The Last Ship, I've been told that was the worst episode and that it got better, especially in the final episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I happily accept partial responsibility for your ever growinglist of great TV. I actually wached season 2 of Dark Angel after I watched season 1 of Supernatural. It was that excruciatingly long hiatus between season 1's finale and season 2's premiere that drove me to watch anything Jensen or Jared I could find. I ended up loving Dark Angel best even though season 2 Max drove me insane. For 7 years Supernatural was my absolute all-time favorite show and it is all because of Jensen and Jared and Eric Kripke.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Very true. I actually love when shows that have been off the air for a long time get into these contests. It's a testament to how awesome they really were because people still love and root for them so long afterwards.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Well Hell's Bells. Thought for sure I was screwed after the Barry and Emily losses last round! I know this is a "silly internet contest" but that didn't stop me from bragging to my bus buddies ;-) Unfortunately, if today's leaders stay as they are, I'm going to have more busted brackets - fingers crossed everyone feels that pain with me!

    Right. So, today's voting....

    1. Oliver
Kinda by default. I haven't watched Poldark (yet!) and after S3, well, if Oliver had gone up against a character from a show that was currently on my favorite list he wouldn't have gotten the vote.

    2. Job
I just started Banshee and have only seen the pilot so far but Job was by far my favorite character of the episode. Sugar was a close second. Can't wait for them two to meet. Someone posted a gif yesterday of them and I must have watched it a dozen times - and I laughed my ass off each time!

    3. NA - don't watch either show

    4. NA - don't watch either show

    5. Peggy Carter
I love Peggy. I liked her in the Cap movies but she really shines in this series - I love a woman who can kick ass and be feminine without feeling like she has to sacrifice one to prove the other. A true role model! Besides Galavant, this was the most joyous renewal of last season for me.

    6. Sheldon
Sheldon had some much need character development this season. It's the first time since some of the early seasons that I am really looking forward to the new season's premier

    7. Tyrion
Totally by default/voting my bracket. I've seen most of S1 of GoT but I can't stand Brennan. I don't like her in the books and I don't like her in the show.

    8. Renard
I dropped Grimm when Adalind lived to get pregnant again. However, Renard has always been one of my favorite characters on the show (along with Monroe and Rosalee, of course) and I wish the writers would utilize him better. Fingers crossed next season sees Truble's return be permanent, Juliet remain dead and the return of the key story line gives Renard more to do.

    TV Talk Topic
My watch list is out of control! I generally use my Netflix, Amazon and Hulu queues to keep track of shows I want to watch but when I have 100+ in one of those queues alone, it's easy to forget about something even a week after I add it. My criteria to move shows up on the list seems to be rather fluid but the Pitch Your Show articles are super helpful to remind me about shows that have gotten lost in the Watch-List-Wasteland.

Some of the shows I've watched all seasons of and would like to go back and visit are...
    Stargate SG1/Atlantis
    Frasier
    Cheers
    Criminal Minds
    Supernatural (Kripke years only)
    Leverage
    Daredevil
    MASH

Some shows that I've started but haven't finished...
White Collar (had to take a break - desire to Gibbs smack Neil and Peter was getting much)
Chuck (again, had to take a break - too much focus on the romance)
Alias (case of newer and shiner show caught my attention)
Fullmetal Alchemist (same as Alias - too many shiny things!)

Shows that I am currently binging/getting caught up on...
    Fringe
    Penny Dreadful
    Banshee
    H5O
    Crossing Lines
    Graceland
    The Last Ship

Shows that I have in my queue and hope to one day get to...
    Between
    Grace and Frankie
    Hell on Wheels
    House of Cards
    Psych
    Revenge
    Scandal
    The Fall
    Marco Polo
    Hemlock Grove
    Bloodline
    Broadchurch
    Transparent
    House
    Blue Bloods
    Chicago PD/Fire
    Royal Pains
    Black Mirror
    Spartacus
    Breaking Bad
    Mad Men
    Sons of Anarchy
    Homeland

...and countless others (not mention all the ones I've seen a season or two but am no where near current)

    ReplyDelete
  136. I agree they advertised it totally wrong. Star-Crossed is defnitely the best example I can't think of any other show that was completely different than it's trailers and promos.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I'm telling you. It's the half decade I have been with SpoilerTV. Every year I put on much more new stuff than I ever take off. This is just this year's list. Then there's the last few years' lists too. I firmly believe I could go through the TV Apocalypse and stay entertained for a full decade just from my list.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I am dreaming of a day when you can be paid to watch TV all day long. That's the dream.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Oliver flippin' Queen, Buffy flippin' Summers and Tyrion flippin' Lannister

    ReplyDelete
  140. I hope you're able to rest soon and feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Yes, I'm actually still scrolling because I keep finding shows! It's nice. They have a little yellow bar over each show that you slide to show if you've finished the series (even the older ones) or you're still watching. I love this app! You can also customize your profile and add friends.

    ReplyDelete
  142. You know the big prize to all of this is the bragging rights so you go on and you brag it up on the bus. I'm excited for you because i am completely out at this point.

Agent Carter and Galavant were my surprise renewal delights too. I am so glad we are going to get more of Carter and Jarvis bantering and kicking butt. I too loved that Sheldon got some much needed character growth this season. I was ready to drop it but then when theyhad him leave for a trip on his own at the end of the previous season I thought I would stick it out and I was pleasantly surprised. He has a long way to go but at least he's heading in the right direction now instead of standing still. Grimm is another show that I'm about to drop but the live tweeting is just so much fun. I can honestly say that #Grimmchat is better than Grimm these days. I second your hope that Trubel remains because she's the only part of the show that excites me these days. I'm hoping they brign the keys back into this but at this point I'm afraid it's moved to the back lot in the Cave of Dropped Plot Points and it's never to be seen again.

ha! I'm totally stealing the Watchlist Wasteland. That's exactly what it feels like. Netflix won't even let me add anymore TV to my queue because it's said enough. Mostly things bounce up and down on my list too depending on how much they are in the forefront of my brain. Pitch Your Show and these summer contests help me narrow down a few. I started Alias too due to last year's Character Cup but I didn;t have time to really get into it so I'm hoping to pull it back up over the midseason hiatus.

I'm so happy you're trying Fringe, Graceland, and The Last Ship. Fringe has its up and down seasons but the relationships are always awesome. Graceland I didn't care for in season 2 but I loved the awesome twists of season one. I always kept me guessing. The Last Ship is one of my favorite summer shows, mostly because even things that should be boring like having no water are surprisingly intense. Your queue list is a lot like mine actually so I might be asking your opinion of them as you check them off.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I personally think that if they had set it in college instead of high school and advertised all teh great sociocultural facets and the action, the show would still be on today.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I refuse to bet against Mickey now. As far as I'm concerned that entire bracket is wide open. I hope Viola is nominated every season of H2G because I have not seen as powerful acting as the scene when she breaks down while taking off her makeup ever before on television. It was stunning.

I heard teh first episode of In the Flesh was on YouTube but I didn't know about the others. I'm always hesitant to watch a new pilot if I don't know where i'll get the second episode. I look forward to hearing your opinion on both Fresh Off the Boat and Fringe whenever you get around to them. As for Teh Last Ship, I loved the concluding episode but the 2-part season 2 premiere was far better. It was one of the best premieres of the season for me.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Fantastic. I can't wait to try it.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Aw, I hope that you get some sleep and feel better soon.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I'm so sorry to hear that. Wishing you full sleep soon.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Cheers guys. Sorry if I sounded grumpy x

    ReplyDelete
  149. "I love a woman who can kick ass and be feminine without feeling like she has to sacrifice one to prove the other."--I totally agree with this statement.

    ReplyDelete
  150. It's a very useful app. You can add old show and even shows that haven't been premiered yet. Plus, you can discover new shows to watch.

    Here is the link: http://www.tvshowtime.com/en
So you can take a look.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Poor Hell on Wheels. : (

But I understand if westerns aren't for you. : )

    ReplyDelete
  152. Helena, Damon, Tyrion and House :)

    ReplyDelete
  153. I selfishly recommend Agent Carter (I didn't like SHIELD either), Penny Dreadful (a wonderful character study blending period and literary elements with horror themes), and Hell on Wheels (I love western movies and tv shows too).

    ReplyDelete
  154. I certainly hope so!

    ReplyDelete
  155. I am so excited for Agent Carter. I actually prefer it to AoS. Peggy and Jarvis shenanigans are the best with Peggy and Angie shenanigans a close second!

I thought I saw an SDCC tweet that the keys were coming back this season. Not sure what the source on that was though - hopefully it's really happening. The keys mystery was one of my favorite things and like so many other plot lines, it just kinda disappeared.

Lol - steal away. It's so true. Would also make a great band name :-)

I really want to get back to Alias but I'm juggling so many shows right now that it may have to wait until the Christmas break. I love Fringe. Mostly because of Peter and Walter. They may not be in a good place right now but it is still better than it was in S1 and that fact alone is a testament to how for the relationship has come over the first two seasons. The Last Ship is so intense! I feel like I've run a marathon after watching each episode! Hoping to get completely caught by the end of summer. My goal is to get all the shows I'm currently watching and a couple of the "on hold" shows finished before the start of the Fall TV season so I can start some new ones over Christmas hiatus. If I find one I think you'll really enjoy (or know you probably won't) I'll give ya a head's up :-)

    ReplyDelete
  156. Wow! Totally current on your watchlist? You're the TV unicorn!

I've started Alias but am juggling too many shows to give it a proper go right now so I'm pushing it to Christmas. Perhaps that's when I'll have time to get caught up with POI too.

    ReplyDelete
  157. No :( Peggy and Jessica, two of my favorite characters against each other. Voted for Jessica anyways.

Also voted for Oliver, Damon, Helena and Tyrion :)

    ReplyDelete
  158. For all the ways you can watch TV these days it sure is hard and expensive to get some of these shows. Do you maybe just need to update Adobe Flash? I had that happen when I got a new headset for the podcast.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I still need to finish Friday Night Lights. I binged the first season and part of season 2 while traveling to and from Australia years ago but never finished it. Justified is still towards the top of my list. I do recommend Dominion and Poldark.

    ReplyDelete
  160. I did watch the first few episodes of Alias but then I got sidetracked by TV that was currently airing. I expect to get season 1 done by the end of the year. As for Dexter, I know many people hated the finale. I never expected to like it at all, but I've now watched the first season and it gripped me more than i ever thought it would so I'm looking forward to season 2. I can't promise I will even make it to season 5 but I'm liking what I watched so far.

    ReplyDelete
  161. That's pretty much what I just said in another comment. We are going to have a TV Talk Topic on characters and shows that have infuenced TV today and I have a lot to say about Buffy.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I also love that Sharon is shown not just as a Captain but as a surrogate mother too. I've found her relationship with Rusty is what makes her stand out from all the other cop dramas to me. She's strong, assured, and principled. She's a character to look up to and I really like that about her.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Watchlist Wasteland does make a catchy bandname. You should trademark that. I am very happy the keys are coming back to Grimm. They were the focus of all of season 1 and then it was like, nevermind. No big deal. I hope to catch up on The Last Ship this weekend because I am really missing it. It is a high adrenaline show, perfect for summer. Glad you're loving Fringe.

    ReplyDelete
  164. nope, one's still crying about how unfair it is and it's summer and she hates me and she's not tired and etc. etc.......

    ReplyDelete
  165. Pretty easy decisions for me but a couple of surprises in the results (at time I voted anyhow).... esp that Bones is holding up against Tyrion, and Sharon is beating Sheldon.

    ReplyDelete
  166. 1. Oliver - I watch Arrow and enjoy it (even in the few times it was enjoyable in Season 3), while I do not watch Poldark.
    2. Helena - Sorry Job, you may be a favorite on Banshee, but Helena is just awesome, plus she is played by the brilliant and lovely Tatiana Maslany. This one still hurt a little though, not to be able to vote for Job.

    3. N/A - Don't care for either show.
    4. Buffy - She was a strong kick ass character, and because I cannot stand anything that goes on in How To Get Away With Murder.
    5. Carter - Arguably one of the strongest characters in the MCU, along with any movie/show. Hayley Atwell is perfect for the role.
    6. Sharon - I've never even heard of Major Crimes, but I absolutely hate Sheldon as a character and I don't particularly care for the actor either.
    7. Tyrion - One of the best, if not the best, character on one of the best shows on TV (even with its less than stellar Season 5). Plus, Peter Dinklage is crazy good in that role, to the point, I can seldom think of better actors than him.
    8. House - One of the first shows I really started to get into, so House gets my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Ah, the joys of parenthood. Remember that at some point they will realize how completely awesome you are....and you can laugh when they have kids.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Votes:

Oliver (very interesting and more complex of a character than I expected when the show started. Plus I don't watch the competitor.
Helena I love where this character has ended up. I just never know what this character is going to do.
Damon I'm up and down with the writing on Vampire Diaries, but Damon is almost always the most fun character there.
    Buffy Cause Buffy.
Peggy Carter Given the period of the piece I didn't expect to like her as much as I did. But I did.
    Sharon
Tyrion A very complex, intelligent character.
    Sean Renard

Nice non stressful day of voting. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  169. I think my TV To Be Watched list has a finite length. As I pop shows on some slide off. Which is to say that there are a gob that get pushed on the list and when they pop off I forget what they were so I never watch them. Let's see.. (I'm probably going to cheat and add shows as I read other people's posts. :-) )

I wish I still had the time to watch as much TV as I used to but I picked up a job when an hour commute each way and they started putting on quality summer programming.

Last two season of American Horror Story, the rest of 12 Monkeys, the rest of How to Get Away with Murder, The 100 (people keep telling me I should), more of Walking Dead (there's a lot of unfinished series on my list apparently)

Aww man. I'm blanking. I think all of these (so far) would be marathons. If there were shows I'd re-watch on marathoning...I would say...Fringe, Dark Angel, and I am starting to feel the urge to watch Babylon 5 again.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Yep, it was a tough call as I love both characters, but I've been a fan of the Buffy character for years now.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I will have a look at Agent Carter soon. As it doesn't have too many episodes it wouldn't be hard to catch up with. The thing that really turned me off SHIELD was the pacing of the show. It was so slow and literally nothing interesting happened.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I don't have a lot of time at the moment, but I watched the pilot of Jane the Virgin and now I want more, but I really can't watch more haha

    ReplyDelete
  173. I loved the two Captain America movies; the first one had Peggy Carter in it and I really liked her. I think I will give it a go as there isn't too much to catch up on.
SHIELD had awful pacing which was the biggest problem for me. I don't like shows that take a long time to build up to something.

Each year I find myself wanting to check out a lot of the new pilots. I don't really bother with comedies as the only one I watch regularly is The Middle, if you haven't seen it I recommend it. It's one of the funniest family comedies around.

Most of the new shows I want to watch are cable shows. Ash vs Evil Dead, The Bastard Executioner, Westworld, Colony, to name a few. I definitely think I'll be adding to my shows list this come September.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Merlin was a great show, I really miss seeing that.

    ReplyDelete
  175. There is no chance I'm ever rewatching Prison Break. I loved the first two seasons, but then it started to become a bit ridiculous and I started to dislike Michael as a character - especially during season 4. Everything that I loved about the first two seasons was just gone, everything that happened during season 3 & 4 just felt unnecessary. The best character on the show was easily Mahone.

    ReplyDelete
  176. You forget to tag all the shows...Agent Carter is for example missing, and Grimm. That's not fair, because the tagged show immediately get more attention. (Not that Peggy needed my support, but if I hadn't known that she should be up for voting today and searched for this post, I would have missed it).

    ReplyDelete
  177. Juliette was the main reason I dropped Grimm. Because I wanted them to actually do something with her character, not spending three seasons victimizing her only to vilify her in the end so that they could kill her off. Worst treatment of a female character ever, and that is the show which gave us Rosalie.

    ReplyDelete
  178. I never really believed that Agent Carter would get cancelled, for multiple reasons, but so many people said it would be that I was really nervous about this one.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I like all the Marvel TV shows (now that AoS delivered a really great second season) for different reasons. But Agent Carter might be my favourite, too.

    ReplyDelete
  180. My prediction for the Bracket: The only guy I can see making it to the quarterfinals is Gregory House (but hopefully Peggy takes him out beforehand). Otherwise I think that the females will take out the males.

    ReplyDelete
  181. How do you like Extant so far?

I finished Episode 12 yesterday and i don't understand the hate for this show. It is pretty good

    ReplyDelete
  182. I have a watchlist in excel, where I have one column with shows that I certainly want to see and one column for shows that I possibly want to watch. I sometimes swap things from one column to the other so it keeps updated. The certainly list includes some long-running shows like Person of Interest, The Good Wife, Battlestar Galactica, Revenge and 24, but also some shorter shows that I have been wanting to catch up on e.g. Wayward Pines, The Last Ship and Dark Matter.

Last weekend I finished Breaking Bad. I'm having a short break now until I start my next marathon which will be Person of Interest. It's not that hard for a show to come up on my watchlist. An interesting description, trailer or recommendation could be enough.

I used to regular marathon previous seasons of NCIS but since I am watching so many shows I can't find the time for it. Shows that I want to rewatch in marathon mode are The 100 and Lost. I have watched both shows pretty recentlly (The 100 until it ended in February and I binge-watched Lost last summer), but since both are so awesome I want to rewatch them already.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Dahne U killed me here! Who made these match ups?
    Annalise and Buffy?????
    Peggy and Jessica????
My heart broke as I had to pick. Voted for Buffy and Jessica, Buffy is an Icon and Jessica needed my support. I knew she would lose.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Start with Daredevil. It is a safe one, because there are only a few episodes and the story arc of season one is concluded. Then follow up with Outlander. The show is worth it for the Cinematography alone.
Did you finish the third season of AoS already?
I really look forward to learn what you think about Vikings...how far along are you now? Still in the first season?

  185. Easy voting for me:
Oliver - enjoy both shows but I'm far more interested in Oliver's character development
Helena - Tatiana Maslany ability to play multi roles is something special & I love Helena always keeps you guessing what she is going to do next.
    Damon- favorite character in TVD
Buffy- One of if not the best female characters ever so happy to see her here & even thought I like Annalise there are very few that can compete with Buffy!

  186. I watched epjsode 3 last night. I like it so far too although i must say it looks like a show that is much better binged like we are doing and not watched weekly since the pacing is rather slow. Also, I wish they would make Molly more likable and more action oriented instead of being so reactive all the time, but they have time, i have only seen 3 episodes after all! And the themes are pretty awesome: AI and alliens, such a cool combo!

  187. Do you have a favorite character? And favorite recurring character?

  188. Mmm...I might be wrong, but does Peggy just pull off the highest win in the first round? I have no idea how popular Jessica is though, so it might be a lucky match-up. Either that, or we have already found the first strong contender for a top spot.

  189. Oliver Queen, Helena, Damon Salvatore, Buffy Summers, Peggy Carter, Tyrion Lannister, and Sean Renard for me today.

  190. I know I sound like a broken record but I really wish you would make up time for BSG because since you claim to like Lost and The 100 so much, there really is no reason you wouldn't love this one too, there are so many similarities between them.

  192. I didn't know that Netflix limits the shows on your queue. That's hilarious. Our local library wouldn't let my mom put any more books on hold because they said she had too many. haha
