Wayward Pines - Betrayal - Advance Preview - "Who To Trust"
Jun 30, 2015
OB Reviews Wayward PinesWayward Pines awaits another dark turn as betrayals occur in the seventh episode of the frantic and exhilarating M. Night Shyamalan thrill ride. Following from 'Choices' which solidified the answers reached from 'The Truth', you'd think by episode 7 we'd understand who to trust in this bizarrely addictive show... Unfortunately, as 'Betrayal' suggests, we will never know where this show is going, and honestly, I think that might be a good thing.
As this is an advance preview, I won't spoil anything for you Wayward Pines fanatics, but ultimately, the show continues to be good in the strangest of ways, taking corners I never thought they'd take. Betrayal is another elegantly made piece of this wild and beautiful cake that is Wayward Pines (sorry for the poor metaphor), but mainly allows characters to grow, such as Theresa - whom continues to become this super agent. Although Ethan has answers, it's going to be hard, as Pilcher said, for anyone to find any logical sense from these baffling answers. This is what makes Wayward Pines so good because it makes sense to the audience (out of all the chaos going on in the show), so be prepared for the episode to bring betrayals, but ones that are logical and not just for the joy of melodrama.
'Betrayal' brings a whole new sense of dread for Wayward Pines - inward dread. Terror within the community that continues to fracture as they grow old and become desperate for the answers to questions that have locked their life away. Within the episode, there's almost distinct similarities between Group A and Group B, how they may both end with the same fate. It's becoming a bit gruesome on the street corners of the Pines - that's not a bad thing either, as without trying to sound like a psychopath, gore is what brings excitement.
This episode will also tease you more for the future of the town, as whilst we have many answers about how Wayward Pines began, and what the town actually is, I still, as I watch, get a sense of doubt. "Is this really what's going on?" I ask myself. Really, the episode does add that mystery that seemed to disappear after we got answers previously. You'll be twiddling your fingers wondering whether we still really know what's going on, and we probably do, but it just filters in your brain as you digest the action occurring. I'll probably talk more about this in my full review, but it totally makes sense for me to doubt the whole concept because that's exactly what the characters are doing in this episode, causing many betrayals between friends and foes.
Strangely though, 'Betrayal' allows friendships to grow, love to flourish, and danger to deepen. Sides are beginning to merge, and unlikely allies are being made, once again, episode seven teases you for the three episodes remaining for this reluctant series. It's definitely an adrenaline filled episode and with one epic and seriously nail-biting conclusion, you're sure to be riving for more.
'Betrayal' Teaser Quotes:
"I can be a very good friend..."
"Why are they trying to undermine us?"
"Next time I won't be so gentle."
"People need to do what they're supposed to, and not do what they're not."
"Why would I stop trying to escape this prison?"
"I wish we had met under different circumstances..."
Be sure to catch the episode on FOX at 9PM ET/PT on July 2nd.

Thanks for the preview Owen
ReplyDeleteWas thinking the same regarding the answers, do we really know what's going do? Can't wait for this episode!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure we ever will with Wayward Pines...
ReplyDeleteIs this a limited series? Or will there be a season 2?
ReplyDeleteI think FOX are on the fence with renewal, ratings have been good but not amazing. Possibility for Season 2 with a new cast, due to the books being covered during the first season. We shall see... (but I hope so!)
ReplyDeleteDid they really cover the whole series? I thought it was mote like 2 to 2.5 books with the rest left for a possible season 2.
ReplyDeleteA comment I heard by someone, may be wrong as I haven't read the books myself. :P
ReplyDeleteWell, whole series or not, I'd like another season or 2.
ReplyDeleteOh of course, I would too!
ReplyDeleteOh! I'm totally skeptical that we've been told and been shown the whole truth... there's definitely more! And if there's not that's fine, but keeping the audience on their toes like this is totally working for me!
ReplyDeleteSo looking forward to this week's episode!
Thanks for the preview!
I'll tackle a guess on some of the quotes:
"I can be a very good friend..." - Megan to Theresa
"Why are they trying to undermine us?" - Pilcher to Ethan
"Next time I won't be so gentle." - Pam (to Kate?)
"People need to do what they're supposed to, and not do what they're not." - Pam to Ethan OR Megan to Theresa
"Why would I stop trying to escape this prison?" - Kate to Ethan
"I wish we had met under different circumstances..." Ben to Amy
Yes definitely, Wayward Pines works so well by teasing so much and not always following through with those teasers - making it always so entertaining.
ReplyDeleteNo problem!
Ooh, you were close on some of them... :P
Wayward Pines works so well by teasing so much and not always following through with those teasers
ReplyDeleteWhat I particularly appreciate is that even when it doesn't follow through with those teases it's not because it's undermining the audience's intelligence. Because it's not about stringing people along... it is literally about having people doubt everything they see or hear.
