Wayward Pines awaits another dark turn as betrayals occur in the seventh episode of the frantic and exhilarating M. Night Shyamalan thrill ride. Following from 'Choices' which solidified the answers reached from 'The Truth', you'd think by episode 7 we'd understand who to trust in this bizarrely addictive show... Unfortunately, as 'Betrayal' suggests, we will never know where this show is going, and honestly, I think that might be a good thing.
'Betrayal' brings a whole new sense of dread for Wayward Pines - inward dread. Terror within the community that continues to fracture as they grow old and become desperate for the answers to questions that have locked their life away. Within the episode, there's almost distinct similarities between Group A and Group B, how they may both end with the same fate. It's becoming a bit gruesome on the street corners of the Pines - that's not a bad thing either, as without trying to sound like a psychopath, gore is what brings excitement.
This episode will also tease you more for the future of the town, as whilst we have many answers about how Wayward Pines began, and what the town actually is, I still, as I watch, get a sense of doubt. "Is this really what's going on?" I ask myself. Really, the episode does add that mystery that seemed to disappear after we got answers previously. You'll be twiddling your fingers wondering whether we still really know what's going on, and we probably do, but it just filters in your brain as you digest the action occurring. I'll probably talk more about this in my full review, but it totally makes sense for me to doubt the whole concept because that's exactly what the characters are doing in this episode, causing many betrayals between friends and foes.
Strangely though, 'Betrayal' allows friendships to grow, love to flourish, and danger to deepen. Sides are beginning to merge, and unlikely allies are being made, once again, episode seven teases you for the three episodes remaining for this reluctant series. It's definitely an adrenaline filled episode and with one epic and seriously nail-biting conclusion, you're sure to be riving for more.
'Betrayal' Teaser Quotes:
"I can be a very good friend..."
"Why are they trying to undermine us?"
"Next time I won't be so gentle."
"People need to do what they're supposed to, and not do what they're not."
"Why would I stop trying to escape this prison?"
"I wish we had met under different circumstances..."
