Other Technically originally a game but had an anime...Danganronpa
It'd be crazy enough to work. Especially if paired with something like The 100.
Plot:
The series revolves around the elite high school, Hope's Peak Academy, which, every year, selects several "Ultimate" students, talented high school students who are in the top of their field, along with one average "Ultimate Lucky Student" who is chosen by lottery.
In Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Makoto Naegi, an average student selected to join Hope's Peak Academy, arrives at the school only to lose consciousness and later find himself trapped inside the school, along with fourteen other students. There, a sadistic remote-controlled teddy bear by the name of Monokuma announces that the students will be forced to live in the school forever, offering only one way to graduate: murder another student and get away with it. When a crime scene is discovered, a "class trial" is held, in which the remaining students must discuss amongst themselves who the murderer is. If they can successfully figure out who murdered the victim, the culprit alone will be executed. However, if they guess incorrectly, the culprit will be able to leave the school and everyone else will be executed.
Not sure they translate well to live action or it was just the dragonball just went horribly wrong and should not be used as basis for condemning the rest. I might have to try of the asian live action films to see how Id react to them. I know tv is a different format and everything, but seems like it be really weird.
Fate/Zero, Shakugan no Shana, Deadman Wonderland, Death Note, No. 6, Psycho-Pass. Although some of them probably wouldn't translate very well to live action.
pretty sure there is a live action tv show for Detective Conan. but I find the concept kinda dumb haha :D I think Pokemon would actually be kinda sick but it could totally backfire and end up being cheesy and just stupid. :/
seems like translating the graphics for most anime well in live action on most tv show budgets would suck. They have a hard enough time with syfy/fantasy in that department for the average show on network tv.
I'm starting to think that I'm the only one who is submitting these polls.
My personal favorites and maybe the most realistic to translate are Inuyasha and Ranma1/2. Inuyasha has an awesome mythology a bit VD alike cause of the doppelganger but still awesome and could be pulled of really well. Ranma1/2 could be so funny I love the anime and it is so hilarious. The translation could be really intresting.
One Piece is a great anime but it needs a lot of money to be done well.
DB Evolution was not only poorly done, the story was so awful, I couldn't believe anyone approved it getting into production.
I think they could be translated well, maybe not all on the list but a lot of them. Overall they would need to age up all the shows and make it more believable and daring.
I think you and I talked about this already once and I really liked Ur Danganronpa idea.
My personal favorite to be turned into a show is Ranma 1/2. It could be a hilarious show, with all the switches and stuff, especially in modern setting.
idk it just feels like they could not get the budget to do the graphics part justice, not that id want any of it in the hands of American television. They've done nothing in an average tv show that gives me faith in them.
It's not like everything is going be Game of Thrones here. But that's just me.
Oh God, the nostalgia. I was so into Sailor Moon, One Piece, Bleach and Naruto back then. I eventually fell behind and never caught up because there were so many episodes to watch.
I will never forget the first time I had my mind blown by a TV show which was during the Naruto episode where Lee dropped his leg weights.. That moment was just iconic.
But to answer your question: I picked Pokemon mainly because I've always wondered what they would look like in real life. If the fan art is anything to go by, some of them would probably scare the living shit out of me. XD
Of course they need a bigger budget, especially for the shows that feature effects all the time. For example: Using the DB mythology and starting with the original story with older teenagers could work but with some good writers and overall team. The translation from anime is I think really more about transfer the vibe the anime has cause that is really difficult.
So for the 30 % who picked this show who should play Sailor Moon, Tuxedo Max, Sailors Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Saturn, and Chibiusa/Chibimoon ?
Ranma 1/2 should be interesting..ly funny 😝 It has the appeal for all people: the comedy, the light romance, the action, the kung fu fighting, naked people, the impossible ridiculous situation, oh and most important the boobs! LOL!
Huge anime fan here and dubs only for me. I'm a fan of most of these animes. But no to InuYasha, Naruto, and Dragon Ball. I really can't imagine InuYasha becoming live-action. Yes to Sailor Moon and Detective Conan. Maybe to Ranma 1/2, One Piece and CardCaptors. I think there are a lot of animes out there that have the potential to become live action just as long as they don't mess it up. These animes are my childhood and still hoping that one day that Detective Conan will continue to be dubbed.
Several! XD lol I mean I was big on Pokemon and Digimon when they were big and One Piece is a total classic.
I voted One Piece because I think it'd translate well into a weekly live action series. Digimon Frontier would also make a great series due to it's human focus and fairly dark story. Pokemon alas should avoid anything live action. But Digimon could definitely rival the superhero franchise well. Heck, if they made it live action, I'd just drop references to Digimon and call it "Frontier" and let people discover the story on it's own merits. But overall, can't top One Piece as the best kept secret that would make great live action if done right.
Code Geass first and foremost; that would work wonders if it was developed in the right way. Also Steins Gate and FMA have potential for great live actions.
DEFINITELY for cable.. hahaha! There're some jokes no apt for children.. Specially when old creep Happosai and his female underwear fetish is involved.. #ohdear 😝
Because I can't see it becoming live action. InuYasha was my first anime that was for teens and older. I've been watching the series for almost 10 years and no matter how many times I've watched it, it still gets to me. I've imagined it live action and it just doesn't feel right to me. I tried to imagine someone playing InuYasha with the dog ears, it doesn't look right. I don't want someone to mess up this great series that I've known most of my life if they're not going to do everything right.
I understand that. But that is the thing with every anime/book or whatever, it could be great it could be awful. I mean doing the designs for InuYasha would be really difficult and find an actor who could fit the role and wear that hair and make that hair flow so beautiful like it did in the anime.
Pfft. None of these. (Ok i voted Inyusha haha sorry Sailor) but screw these choices, i say Ninja Scroll!! The best badass anime out there. Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D. = D
I know. It is tough to transform any anime to tv or movie screen. We all saw the disaster DB Evolution was. I loved InuYasha so much as a kid, great show.
I think Shakugan no Shana, Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach could do well as live action series. Maybe also the anime classics, Magic Knights Rayearth and Escaflowne.
exatcly what makes anime unique is their graphics, and in an already low budget tv show would seem ridicuclous. But maybe Ranma 1/2 woldn't turn out so bad.
I think anything fantasy or shonen with powers won't be good tv adaptations. Maybe slice of life or romance would be better suited. A show like Steins Gate or Psycho-Pass would be AMAZING though if done right.
Other: Evangelion (though it's technically being developed), xxxHolic -with Eva Green as Yuuko-, Cowboy Beebop, Record of Loddoss War, Battle Angel Alita, Vampire Hunter D, Earth Maiden Arjuna, Hellsing... and I'm gonna stop myself now.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteSailor Moon translated pretty well to the live action format when Japan did it. I doubt America could do it justice though.

ReplyDeleteit would be a dream come true to see Inuyasha becoming a tv show! i love that anime!
ReplyDeleteAttack on Titan, Death Note, or Fullmetal Alchemist.
ReplyDeleteseems like the effects would be a major fail for a tv show on attack on titan.

ReplyDeleteI could see Free! possibly working on The CW too because uh

Yeah free! would most certainly work on the CW. Even though is stepping a bit away from the high school genre these days.

Considering how the US adapts things, Pokemon would probably look like this:

U mean like this?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see how awful a Pokemon live-action show would turn out to be.
ReplyDeleteBeyblade could actually be turned into a pretty decent live-action show.
Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Attacker you :)
ReplyDeleteSailor Moon all the way !!!!

If anyone even thinks about making Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, and Naruto into series I will be pissed.
ReplyDeleteWhy no to InuYasha?

Ranma only to cable than. ^^ It was really a hilarious show, I enjoyed it so much as a kid.
