UnReal - Relapse - Advance Preview: "Secrets and Lies"
Jun 4, 2015
AM Reviews Un-RealThe first episode served as a great launch point for this perfect Summer show, but it did have to deal with the compulsory character introductions and exposition. This week we get into the meat of the story as we learn what drove Rachel back to Everlasting in the first place. If you thought Rachel was finally getting her life back on track you’d be very wrong. We learn just how far this star Producer has fallen and it’s pretty bleak.
Someone from Rachel’s past makes an unexpected and unwelcome return to her life. To make matters worse this person is in possession of something with very big implications for Rachel and those around her. Look for this person to back Rachel into a corner that she may not be able to get herself out of. Rachel’s biggest regret about what happened in the past seems to center around those she hurt. This week she is poised to cause more harm and she’ll have to go to extreme lengths to try and protect them.
Anna (Johanna Braddy) didn’t have much to do last episode but they make up for it in spades this week as they delve into a storyline that takes us into her personal life. When the show keeps a major bit of news from Anna look for her to become more than even Rachel can manage alone. The person who comes to Rachel's aid is not whom you will expect. Johanna steals this episode with an incredibly strong performance in every scene she’s in, and there are a lot.
Jay (Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman) and Shia (Aline Elasmar) get some fun things to do this week. We know Shia has a manipulative side, even if she isn’t as good as Rachel, but this week Jay proves why he’s working on Everlasting. He may have seemed like a nice guy last week, but look for him to up his game in a fun and not entirely unexpected way. Jeffrey gets his moment to shine in this episode and he takes full opportunity of it.
Quinn learns a shocking bit of news that shakes her world. Through this revelation, and its fallout, we get our first signs that she may have a heart hiding under her cold exterior after all.
This is an episode you don’t want to miss and the final minutes will leave you craving more. Tune into UnReal on Lifetime at 10pm on Monday and then return to SpoilerTV for my detailed review of this episode.
To tide everyone over until Monday I’ll leave you with a little game. I’m going to list 5 characters and 5 quotes. The first person to match all 5 quotes with their speaker will get a bonus tidbit about a character of their choice.
Quinn, Rachel, Anna, Grace, Jay
1. “Maybe she has intimacy issues.”
2. “This is the apocalypse, man. This is end of days.”
3. “For once I’d like to see someone deserving win.”
4. “You’ve gotta go big, okay? Loud and highly opinionated.”
5. “Don’t torture me like that again.”
Monday is a long way away, so help the time pass faster by posting your thoughts and speculation below.
Ehh, these are a little disappointing. I really loved the pilot. But the whole blackmail thing with Rachel doesn't interest me in the slightest. Neither does Quinn's romance with the skeevy creator.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could say things in more detail to give you examples of why to not miss next week, but to say them would be to give away spoilers I'm not allowed to. What I can say is neither of the plot points you mentioned go as you may expect them to.
ReplyDeleteCompletely understand that you can't tell more. You just always wonder what things are going to be dropped or emphasized from a pilot.
ReplyDelete1. Grace
ReplyDelete2. Quinn
3. Rachel
4. Jay
5. Anna
We have a winner! Let me know who you want to know a bit more about from this episode and I'll give you some fun tidbits about what they are up to.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the preview.
ReplyDeleteI review the show for TV Fanatic, so got to see this episode.
It really is my favorite new show of the summer!
Thanks for checking out my review. I read yours the other day and thought it was very insightful. The ratings weren't where I hoped they would be, so maybe reviewers like you and I can help build some hype around this show. I'm going to spend time this weekend trying to craft a worthy review for Monday. I want to see this show suceed. It is the perfect summer show and deserves a chance. The second episode really does a good job of upping the stakes for Rachel and everyone else.
ReplyDeleteThanks. The ratings were way lower than what I expected, but the show is getting really good reviewers, so hopefully it can grow :-)
ReplyDeleteThey were lower than I was hoping for as well. I know it got a lot of positive press leading up to the premiere so I'm not sure what happened. I think the "reality" show within the show may have confused some people. I'm hoping the positive reviews will turn into an uptick in ratings next week. This is a great show for fun summer TV watching.
ReplyDeleteWell I don't think Adam was even mentionned in this preview, so what is HE up to?
ReplyDeleteGood catch on Adam. He was originally in almost every section of the original preview I wrote then during the review and edit process I realized I was giving away way to much of his story, so I removed all his stuff. To be honest I actually thought I'd left in one sentence about him, but it looks like it got purged in the cut too. I'm cautious with previews because I don't want to over spoil anyone or upset the gracious networks that provide us these preview opportunities.
ReplyDeleteHere is your Adam scoop:
He shares a very interesting moment with Rachel, in his room, early on in the episode and it is a fun scene. It's not what you may be thinking though as Rachel is to busy to deal with Adam's issues this week. Look for them to have to work together to deal with a tricky situation.
