Thanks to Darkness for the heads up.
Joel McHale is joining the hunt for the truth out there. The Community leading man is the first actor signed for a guest starring stint on Fox’s new six-episode installment of The X-Files, which reunites original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. McHale will play Tad O’Malley, the anchor of a popular conservative internet news network who becomes an unlikely ally for Fox Mulder (Duchovny).

ReplyDeleteJoel as a right wing nutjob? This has to be hilarious :D
Let's hope for a recurring part
If I can't get Dogget, Krycek and Reyes back I'll gladly take Joel
YAY. I adore Joel McHale, this is excellent news. And McHale playing a conservative news host... that is going to be humorous, lol.
ReplyDeleteI like it.
ReplyDeleteThis news also reminds me I better start binging so I can be ready when this starts.
Same here. I have several shows that have priority first but I really need to start in the next week or two if I want to be totally caught up by the time it premieres. I know it's six months away, but with all the TV I have to fit in around it, 200 episodes is a helluva lot to catch up on in that span of time.
ReplyDeleteGreat news!
ReplyDeleteGreat news! Love Joel Mchale

ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly :D.
This sounds fun and exciting. I'm in. Love Joel McHale.
cool, cool, cool
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen him in much outside of comedy though, so it'll be interesting to see him do something more dark.
ReplyDeleteKinda wondering how they're going to do things with the contracts, the X-Files usually had 2 (3) regulars at a time but added another cast category ("also starring", "special guest starring", "guest starring", "co-starring")
Yay!! Awesome news!
ReplyDeleteIndeed! He did a dramatic stint on "Sons of Anarchy" for a few episodes that seemed to be generally well-received. And 'The Informant' was kind of a comedy/drama sort of deal, and he had a role in that film that worked (good movie, by the way). And some of his more serious moments on "Community" were really good, too (thinking of last night's finale, for example).
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good way for people generally known for comedy to go when they want to try a few more dramatic roles, though-start out with small stuff and let people get used to seeing them in a different setting. Considering the classic pedigree of this series, I think they'll be able to make it work :).
I've only seen some of the "X-Files" here and there in reruns, so I'm not familiar with that contract stuff you mention. That is interesting, dividing it all up like that-usually when I hear "guest star" I think the person guesting will only be around for one episode. If they're scheduled for a few episodes they usually say "guest stint" or "arc" or something. So I don't know what that means for Joel's character. I certainly won't complain if he sticks around for a few episodes, if not the whole run, though!
That could actually be a really fun dynamic. McHale's the lucky kind of actor who seems to be able to bounce off of just about anyone, so long as the material isn't too grim-dark. I think The X-Files knows better than to take itself too seriously, so this should work.
ReplyDeleteBill O'Rilley in his younger years kind of thing then?
