  • 23:25 - MOVIES: Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson Returning for 'Pitch Perfect 3'
Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson will be back for the third installment in the Pitch Perfect franchise.

Universal has dated Pitch Perfect 3 for Friday, July 21, 2017.

Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment and Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions are returning to produce.

  • 23:20 - Sherlock - Manga Adaption Banned In USA
There has been lots of fuss regarding the Japanese publication of an English language version of their manga adaptation of the BBC Steven Moffat/Mark Gatiss Sherlock series, using the text from the original TV show. Rather than translating back from the translated Japanese.

On its announcement, Sherlock fans in the USA went kinda nuts and tried ordering it from Books Kinokuniya. Word came down, however, that the book is embargoed. It can’t be sold to the US due to rights and licensing issues.

What the issues are, we don’t know. Actors’ likeness rights? Territorial license clashes? Possibly that a US publisher has already comic book rights to the show and is planning their own version? Maybe they could be planning to license the Japanese version themselves.

  • 23:15 - MOVIES: Maleficent Sequel in Development
EXCLUSIVE: Disney has begun moving toward a sequel to Maleficent, the 2014 blockbuster fairy tale that starred Angelina Jolie as the winged title character. The studio has engaged Linda Woolverton to write the sequel, and I’m told the studio is keeping Jolie in the loop and that the sequel will be written for her to reprise.

That will be a whole different conversation, of course, and they would have to make a new deal with her to reprise. She developed but didn’t star in sequels to either Salt or Wantedbut Disney is moving forward and hoping it gets a fairy tale ending. Joe Roth is back as the film’s producer, and it’s unclear whether Robert Stromberg will be back. He’s the Oscar winning production designer who made his directing debut. Not surprising that another Maleficent would be a major priority for the studio’s revisionist fairy tale slate. It was a pricey film at a reported $180 million, but Maleficentgrossed nearly $760 million worldwide. Woolverton is repped by WME.

  • 22:30 - The Whispers - Interview with Executive Producer
'The Whispers' Exclusive Interview: Executive Producer on Drill's Plan, Methods and Limitations

Through the first two episodes of The Whispers, many questions have been raised in the aftermath of the event in Mali, including Sean's reappearance, his connection to Drill and why Drill's playing various games with specific children.

BuddyTV spoke with Exective Producer Zack Estrin on the phone to discuss what's coming up on The Whispers Season 1 Episode 3, "Collision," and beyond. He provided insight into the children Drill's targeting, the entity's abilities and limitations, why the children are easy targets, when answers will be revealed and much more.

Read on for edited excerpts from the conversation and check out a sneak peek for "Collison."

It's quite a coincidence that all these people that Drill is targeting have a connection. Is that strictly a coincidence or will we eventually find out there's a reason these people were selected?

That actually is a very good question because Drill is choosing-- everybody who Drill is playing with is being done for a reason. They are all connected to part of what his larger plan is going to be. Everybody who he talks to will play a part at some point or in some way, shape or form in what Drill's ultimate desires are. It is an intended coincidence if that's a word.

Right now, Drill is known as a mysterious entity. As an entity, we've been able to see that he can give hearing back to Henry and promises to heal Harper's mother. If Drill has that kind of power, why does he have to manipulate kids to do actions for him? Are there limits to Drill's abilities?

I think one of the things of the way that Drill operates as you'll sort of see as it goes forward -- He is not all powerful and its abilities are restricted to what it can do. When you're not corporeal there are things that you can and cannot do. ...

At first it looked like Sean and Drill's actions were directly connected, but through the episodes that initial theory starts to appear incorrect.

I think right now there's still some kind of connection between Drill and Sean. I think we'll understand exactly what that is as we get into Episodes 4 and 5. He's still kind of connected, but we're just not sure why or how. I know that there is some kind of thing do to with the crash out there in the desert and clearly Sean is in the same places as where people have said that Drill is. The question is: Why is Sean connected to Drill? I think you'll find your answers quite quickly.

“Because horror’s such a better genre right now — it’s definitely had a rebirth — it’s darker,” Weil (“Sharknado”) said. “It’s definitely a little bit gorier, a little bit scarier, more of a thriller.”

Blotevogel (“Ravenswood,” “The Twilight Zone”) said she thinks the entire “Scream” franchise works because of its unique take on horror.

“I loved genre, but I hated that genre has just been relegated to just the geeks and the nerds,” Blotevogel said about “Scream’s” premiere in 1996. “… And then I saw ‘Scream’ and realized this movie succeeded on so many levels. It was so entertaining as a comedy, as a horror film, as a self-referential, and also had great characters.”

  7. The end is coming for American Odyssey. I hope she makes it in American by the end of episode 12.
I don't want a cliffhanger like she's in a helicopter in her way to America and then the helicopter explodes or something -_-

  10. "Gorier and darker" than what? The original movies? They didn't need to be gory or dark (wich they actually were though), if that's what the show will be relying on -,-

  18. Let's see. The King took his referendum to abolish the monarchy public then he got stabbed. Eleanor learned that their older brother was murdered. Liam was ready to accept the mantle of Prince Regent but the King's little brother, Cyrus, stopped the proceedings by announcing that the twins were NOT the king's children. The Queen went along with the lie and Cyrus became Prince Regent. Then the King died. The Queen double crossed Cyrus by going to the guy the King was talking to about the referendum, introduced him to Cyrus' daughters, and told him that once she was no longer Queen then she'd back his proposal because no monarchy is better than either of Cyrus' daughters being Queen. Glorious bubble gum IMHO. :-)
