The SpoilerTV 2015 Episode Competition - Day 1 - Round 1: Polls 1-4
Jun 16, 2015
2015 Episode Competition Banshee Justified Orphan Black Outlander Supernatural The Flash The Leftovers The MusketeersHey all,
Well, here we go. The nomination phase is over and the draw has been done. Just before we get to the draw, I just want to mention a couple of things from the nominations. We received nearly 900 nominations that spanned almost 500 different episodes. That's a pretty impressive turn-out from all of you who submitted, and it's really nice to see a lot of variation in people's submissions. A lot only got one or two votes and so unfortunately didn't make it in, but I enjoy seeing the different episodes that people love.
Anyway, onto the draw. The draw was done so that:
1. The top eight seeds (in bold) cannot face each other until the quarter-finals.
2. No episodes of the same show face each other in the first round.
The draw is as follows:
A quick comment about the top eight seeds - Person of Interest's 'If-Then-Else' easily took the number one seed with 254 nominations, while the fourth season finale picked up 105 to give it fourth seed. Arrow's 'The Fallen' started slow, but built up its nominations to 142, giving it the number two seed, while the CW show's 'My Name Is Oliver Queen' had 108 putting it third. The 100's second season finale took fifth - 'Spacewalker' came sixth. Game of Thrones' 'Hardhome', which aired the day before the deadline, was seventh seed while The Flash's first season finale took the final seed.
So, enough of all that. Let's move on to the actual competition...
The rules are as follows:
1. Two episodes go head to head for 24 hours. The episode that emerges as winner will go through to the next round.
2. Vote for your favourite episode, and tell us what you voted for.
3. Tell others about the competition! Social media is your best friend in this competition if you want your favourite episode to win.
4. Be respectful. This is a competition, but be friendly. Let's not have any abuse directed at any person, fandom or show, as we've had on occasion in the past.
The first of this year's polls features two first season finales, as The Flash's 'Fast Enough' takes on The Leftovers' 'The Prodigal Son Returns'. We move on to see Outlander's 'The Wedding' face Orphan Black's 'Certain Agony of the Battlefield'. As many may remember, Outlander won the 2014 Series Competition so I'm interested to see how the show does in this competition. Next, we have The Musketeers' 'The Accused' taking on one of my favourite episodes in the past year - Banshee's incredibly brutal episode 'Tribal'. Finally, Justified's series finale is up against Supernatural's tenth season finale, 'My Brother's Keeper'.
Don’t forget to share the post; the more people vote, the more chance your episode has of winning!
Check back tomorrow for the next set of polls from round 1!

I went with The Flash and Banshee today.
ReplyDeleteHope everyone enjoys the competition!
Good stuff @Bradley Adams!
ReplyDeleteLet the games begin.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Flash and Outlander. Didn't watch the other stuff.
Thanks for running this :)
ReplyDeleteJust The Leftovers for me today.
The Leftovers and Banshee for me today.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this! Good to see my favourite two episodes of TWD this season in there. I could only really vote in one poll, so just Flash today.
ReplyDeleteJust voted for The Flash, I don't see any other of the shows for today.
ReplyDeleteThe Leftovers
ReplyDeleteOutlander absolutely! A young show that is doing great and has so much potential!
ReplyDeleteThe Flash-Fast Enough & Outlander-The Wedding-Amazing episodes,both of them.So glad they got nominated!
ReplyDeleteThe Leftovers, Banshee, and Justified
ReplyDelete"A quick comment about the top eight seeds - Person of Interest's 'If-Then-Else' easily took the number one seed with 254 nominations, while the fourth season finale picked up 105 to give it fourth seed."
ReplyDeleteThat's my show <3
I'm dying already. Justified vs Supernatural. How do I choose? I needed an excuse to re-watch both of them.
ReplyDeleteWell all my favourite episodes are up against SpoilerTV's most devoted fans, so yeah not good for me!
ReplyDeleteLeftovers & Banshee
ReplyDeleteFairly easy choices for me today:
ReplyDeleteThe Flash, Orphan Black, Banshee and Justified.
Can someone explain this whole thing for dumb people like me again :D I am a bit confused with the table way at the top and the polls!
ReplyDeleteRevenge vs the 100 and Revenge vs The walking dead?! Oh my :D
ReplyDeleteOnly Orphan Black for me today.
ReplyDeleteThe Leftovers
ReplyDeleteMy votes - Banshee and Justified
ReplyDeleteThis was honestly hard for me. The Justified finale is my favorite of all time. Supernatural has Dean. My 3 favorite male characters are Dean, Boyd and Raylan. It's like asking me to choose a favorite child. I hope the next round takes it easy on me.
Justified
Raylan: You asking why I came? Thought it was news that should be delivered in person.
Boyd: That the only reason? After all these long years, Raylan Givens that's the only reason? Raylan: Well, I suppose if I allow myself to be sentimental, despite all that has occurred there is one thing I wander back to.
Boyd: We dug coal together.
Raylan: That's right.
Supernatural
Sam: Take these, and one day, when you find your way back...Let these be your guide.
And they can help you remember what it was to be good...what it was to love.
Dean: Forgive Me
Um I don't see any episodes for Sons of Anarchy
ReplyDeleteNor Homeland or The Americans.
ReplyDeleteThe Flash & Orphan Black & The Musketeers & Supernatural
ReplyDeleteThe Flash and Orphan Black. Gave up on Banshee and really don't care about The Musketeers so didn't vote in that one. But boy was it hard to pick between Justified and Supernatural. Voted for Supernatural based on the fact that I was in tears by the end. But really loved that Justified episode.
ReplyDeleteOnly Flash for me today, I haven't watched OB yet, so I'd be biased if I voted for it
ReplyDeleteWhat specifically are you confused about?
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure :)
ReplyDeleteSo happy operation mongoose & sympathy for the de vil got nominated
ReplyDeletePoll 1: The Flash (haven't seen the Leftovers yet)
ReplyDeletePoll 2: Orphan Black (Outlander breathtaking in this episode, but this was possibly the best Orphan Black episode of season 3)
Poll 3: Banshee
Poll 4: Supernatural (haven't seen Justified)
Didn't get enough nominations, sorry.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
ReplyDeleteSo will all these separate competitions come in the next few days? I think i am just stupid :D now i get it
ReplyDeleteOne of my top 3 episodes of the tv season so Orphan Black for me.
ReplyDelete1. The Leftovers
ReplyDelete2. Orphan Black
3. Banshee
4. Justified
Pleeease let Banshee win!!!!
I voted for The Flash and Orphan Black. I don't watch The Musketeers or Banshee, so I didn't vote in that poll. As for the last poll, I watch Supernatural but that episode was crap so I refuse to vote for it.
ReplyDeleteSo each day for the next week (up to and including next Monday 22nd) I'll be making new posts with four polls from round 1, in order from the top left in the draw downwards, then to the top right downwards. After that I'll do the same for round 2 for four days, then round 3 over two days, then the quarters, semis and then the final. That make sense?
ReplyDeleteAhhh okay! Thanks a lot for explaining! Thx for doing this, it will be a lot of fun
ReplyDeleteYep, same for me. The four shows I voted for today are all loosing. So sad!
ReplyDeleteBut I´m still gonna vote every day. Hopefully one of my shows will make it! :-)
Just Outlander for me.
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah, same here with a couple of mine :p. Good to see them among the nominees, though, and hopefully we can both have a stroke of luck with our favorite episodes. Time to rally the troops!
ReplyDeleteBasically how I feel ;) That episode was truly something
ReplyDeleteNo shows for me today, but thanks @Bradley Adams for doing this!!
ReplyDeleteFlash and Outlander
ReplyDeleteDon't watch Musketeer, Banshee, Justified, and haven't watched the Supernaturla season finale yet (so sad that that show has fallen off my watch right away list)
Just The Flash for me today.
ReplyDeleteI have ro admit, I am pretty surprised by some episodes that Made it all the way through
ReplyDeleteI have a question to the Spoilertv staff. Do you already have a member that is reviewing UnREAL?
ReplyDeleteI believe they do but i am not sure
ReplyDeleteI'm not STV staff but Aimee Hicks is reviewing it.
ReplyDeleteomg i can't believe it, parenthood finale got a nomination + the middle !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat whole "The100 is an underdog show" comment thing is without legs now. It's clearly not an underdog, in fact it's overhyped here
ReplyDeleteIf sth is overhyped, then arrow but not the 100
ReplyDeleteIf there were ever two episodes to make you change your mind about The 100, these are it. Some of the best drama I've watched this year.
ReplyDeleteI don't question the quality. Just the fact that people keep acting as if it was under appreciate, wich it really isn't. Looking at the internet fanbase here that is...very loud
ReplyDeleteAgreed
ReplyDeleteGiven that the fanbase always goes on about how its underappreciated we sure se a lot of fans saying that at once
ReplyDeleteBut it needs the ratings, otherwise it will be cancelled and it does not deserve to be cancelled because it is the best show on the CW in Terms of quality. At least on the drama side
ReplyDeleteYou mean the popularity of it here? It surprises me sometimes. I don't think it gets enough attention elsewhere. From the critics, yes. It's not widely known.
ReplyDeleteExactly. More people need to know that this show exists. It should be getting all the attention arrow and the flash get
ReplyDeleteI think they mean ratings wise
ReplyDeleteI can only judge based on the two sites I frequently visit and I'm at a point I'm sick of constantly hearing about the show
ReplyDeleteAgreed I think both Arrow and The Flash are way overhyped. All I see the Arrow fandom do is complain as well it's baffling.
ReplyDeleteBut how much is too much. Forcing something down a groups throat isn't going to turn them into loyal fans, instead it's going to make them sick of the mere mention
ReplyDeleteOh, well it's a personal issue then. I understand that. The same way I was tired of hearing about several certain shows this past season. That's fair.
ReplyDeleteYou know that is how i feel when arrow wins every damn poll, even when it does not deserve to win. I mean come on "My Name is Oliver queen" came in third?! IMO that was one of the worst episodes i have seen on Television. I could give you many more examples of other shows
ReplyDeleteSo i do understand you
ReplyDeleteI never understood why do many people are crazy abour arrow. However, many people might think the same way about my shows. Therefore, I should probably stop complaining
ReplyDeleteThat I agree on, Arrow only had a few good episodes this season but I'm not being bombarded with people telling me to watch Arrow.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong: I watched season 1 of the 100 and liked it, it was okay but nothing mind blowing. The sad thing is that now I can hardly be objective anymore,
Whenever I see someone mention the 100 now my blood boils
I was just going to say, he feels the same way about The 100 as we do Arrow etc...he's entitled. We're entitled to understand but disagree ;)
ReplyDeleteI can relate to what you have said and i think it is indeed important to discuss this
ReplyDeleteThere several shows I could say that for as well, it's just something everyone has to deal with. Fans of a show are going to talk about that show, that's not going to change.
ReplyDeleteExactly ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm in a love/hate relationship with Arrow. But while I'm forcefed a ship on Arrow the 100 is being forcefed to me on multiple sites. Even facebook, at one point I'm just sick of hearing about it
ReplyDeleteSadly I'm currently putting BatB fans and 100 fans on the same level (again: NOT about the shows quality but the constant mention)
ReplyDeleteBut The 100 was just ok in its first season. The second one was awesome...
ReplyDeleteI have Empire, GOT, TWD, Arrow, SPN, The Flash and a few others on the same level with BATB! I definitely know what it feels like.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what to tell you Mac other than you're entitled to that but you're letting petty irritants form your opinions. My dislike of Olicity did that for me with Arrow.
ReplyDeleteLmao that's not helping!
ReplyDeleteOf course I'm letting non-issues control my perception of a rather unrelated product. But I'm human. If you try to force a cookie down my throat I'll spit it out rather than start loving it.
ReplyDeleteThat whole thing was more ment as a friendly message towards the fandom aka. "maybe you should stop acting as if your show didn't reach anyone now, your voices have been heard. If no new fans come out of this you should probably reconsider your strategy to gain new fans"
Hahaha I'm not a huge fan of the TV show, I am just saying what I think. The 100 is not the best show ever, but did a great job in its second season.
ReplyDeleteTrue on all these shows.
ReplyDeleteI like The Flash but it's not really the superhero evolution it's said to be
GoT is fun but is far from the dark/gritty high quality drama people claim it is, it's more "Boobs, swords and slow plots that aren't going to be ended"
Arrow is 90210 now
SPN gets a fair share of hate from its own fabase these days but true
Don't miss that I'm agreeing with your right to be irritated but that post was meant to be exactly what it was. A passive aggressive dig at a fanbase. Not a friendly message.
ReplyDeletethat's what I was going to say but it's just so fitting
ReplyDeleteYou forgot PLL and TVD fans...
ReplyDeleteIt was a dig at a fanbase that needs to get take the hint...as I've been dropping it for a while now in a nice manner. But no one even considered that I suggested to dial it down a notch.
ReplyDeletelol I don't think anyone considers TVD good anymore, even its own fans are just staying because of a guilty pleasure. I've been prettyinvolved with a lot of TVD fans in the past and none of these guys still like the show they're obsessed about :P
ReplyDeleteI actually don't come across PLL fans that much and TVD seems to have dialed it down a lot...or given up!
ReplyDeleteSo basically what you're saying is because you're tired of hearing/reading it, fans, me included, should stop talking about it?
ReplyDeleteNo.
SGU is right, it's Aimee Hicks. Here is her review
ReplyDeletehttp://www.spoilertv.com/2015/06/unreal-relapse-review-villains.html
Poll 1: Two great finales but I have to go with The Leftovers on this one.
ReplyDeletePoll 2: Voted for Outlander for its portrayal of sex.
Poll 4: Supernatural by default.
Thanks
ReplyDeleteThis was a bad day for me to start! I have two polls in which I watch all 4 shows and then two polls in which I watch 0 zeros lol. Talk about being unlucky.
ReplyDeleteI love The Prodigal Son Returns and I really, really wish I could throw my hat behind supporting The Leftovers here which is tremendously underrated and an all around fabulous show, especially this mind blowingly good episode, but I cannot not vote for the awesomeness of the flash season finale, the fanboy in me does not allow it. So The Flash it is.
On the second one, Orphan Black.
Which ones?
ReplyDeleteThe 100 is an underdog show, generally speaking. That statement is true.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 is one of the most popular shows aroudn STV. That statement is probably also true.
Neither is mutually exclusive.
Arrow is not overhyped, imo.
ReplyDeleteAnd contest season begins - woo hoo. This is incredibly easy for me because I have only seen 3 of these episodes today and none are going against each other. For me The Flash's season finale was the best finale of this year. I'll end up voting for H2GAwM, The Musketeers, Spacewalker (my favorite episode of the competition), Forever, and Agent Carter. Then I will be out of this contest.
ReplyDeleteTrue on both.
ReplyDeleteHowever I'm not entirely sure what qualifies it as an underdog, that the ratings are somewhat subpar and below expectations? The show is enjoying some pretty positive buzz all around the internet. It was on imdb's staff pick multiple times and is on various sci-fi/genre heavy news sites hailed as the last true sci-fi show.
It's kind of pulling the same numbers as Jane the Virgin is and that show is certainly no underdog itself
No but if you want to read that into the post fine, by all means be insulted. I'm used to fans getting defensive over their shows. Talking about something is fine but violently pressing something into relevancy is a whole different story. Usually turning people off
ReplyDeleteI am always out early in this competition but it's fun to see what is popular.
ReplyDeleteThat's my vote too.
ReplyDeleteTo the moderators, did any show have more than two episodes make it to the top 64 and thus subjected to the rule of two? I'm just curious.
ReplyDeleteTo me, an underdog show is a show that is an underachiever in two areas:
ReplyDelete1) Critical acclaim: while The 100 has plenty of buzz online and enjoys positive comments from most critics, it has no awards representation whatsoever unlike Jane the Virgin, so it is an underachiever here
2) Ratings: it is clearly a very marginal performer, below the CW's average and could have easily been cancelled as it could have been renewed
Maybe you are arguing that there is a #3 factor in the form of online buzz but I don't really think that is measurable/ impactful enough to be on the same level as the other two. So I think it is perfectly fair to consider The 100 an underdog show.
1) rarely any CW show manages to show off any big awards, in fact JtV is the only show that manages to do so. By that logic wouldn't essentially every CW show be considered an underdog? (Peoples Choice and Teen Choice not being under consideration obviously since 100 scored a few there)
ReplyDelete2) if I remember correctly the 100 pulled numbers very close to TVD and TO this season wich by all means is far from the lower end of the food chain.
Well given the online fandom being rather persistent on promoting the show to potential new viewers (from what I see, not sure maybe in some dark corner of the internet the show hasn't been mentioned yet) one would assume that the fanbase is relying on #3.
Ergo by that same logic I could technically consider BatB, Reign, TO and Here Comes Honey Boo-Boo underdogs as well ^^ (just friendly poking here)
Yes there were several. Person of Interest, Arrow, Outlander and a few others that I can't remember.
ReplyDeletePitty that The Leftovers and Orphan Black were paired with such big fandoms. They're both brilliant and deserving shows.
ReplyDeletedo two shows in the poll even make sense logistically? Thinking about it: potentially two episodes of the same show competing against each other might take the spice out of the whole thing.
ReplyDelete"But it needs the ratings"
ReplyDeletesure it does but this internet push it's getting clearly hasn't been working suggesting that the relevant viewers aren't heavy twitter/facebook/literallyeversiteever users.
"otherwise it will be cancelled and it does not deserve to be cancelled"
no show deserves to be cancelled but ultimately it's a fate that will reach every show at some point. I get that fighting for a show is important but in the very end overwhelming others that have no connection to the show isn't helping the case
"because it is the best show on the CW in Terms of quality. At least on the drama side"
and this is exactly the attitude that turns me off on the shows fandom. We all have our favourites but completely giving in to ones bias is never going to convince someone else to watch something. In fact it's making people annoyed with the product
The 100 finished the season at 68% of the CW's ratings. The Originals finished the season at 77% of the CW's ratings (in a lead-off spot) and The Vampire Diaries finished the season at 92% of the CW's ratigns (also in a lead-off spot). They aren't all on the same level, clearly.
ReplyDeleteWhat I am trying to say is that by looking at the most objective metrics you can have (which for me are the two I've mentioned before) The 100 can barely qualify as a succesful show.
From then on, it obviously depends on how much you think the show deserves the success to qualify it as an overachiever or an underdog. That part kind of falls back into the subjective part.
I'll admit: I didn't know that TVD/TO still performed a tad better.
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed true, it's not a success by any means but in terms of theCWs expectations the spectrum is rather wide and no one will be able to predict what's actually considered a success and what isn't.
Subjectively I want the show to go on till season 5, then end, come out on DVD so I can watch it all at once. But at this point I'm a bit (as evidenced by this conversation) by the constant push it's getting from the fanbase, they're obviously entitled to their opinion doesn't mean I'm not entitled to be annoyed about it as well :)
I voted Outlander. It is the only one listed that I watch and I watch it over and over again!
ReplyDeleteOh god, 'This is Rome' was nominated? Litt the Hell Up was better, I should've voted for that.
ReplyDeleteNot really, Orphan Black has quite a fanbase and The Leftovers has enough followers in STV to be nominated, I just hoped they made it a bit farther into the competition, I believe at least Orphan Black could've gotten far.
ReplyDeleteGo Bansheeee Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ReplyDeleteThe Flash, Orphan Black and The Musketeers - what a crappy first round vote that one is against Tribal :(( lol
ReplyDeleteCheers Bradley!
ReplyDeleteIf it was ANYTHING else I'd be right there with you, But seeing as the Musketeers is up against Outlander for it's other episode that's in the comp, this one just has to get through at least the first round. Gutted though, Tribal is blooming awesome!
ReplyDeleteI knew the Justified finale would be a big favorite for you. I bought my dad the last couple of Justified seasons and I told him that you approved of the finale so it had a great ending. He was glad to hear it since it is one of his favorite shows to binge watch.
ReplyDeleteI actually have not seen the TW sneak peek yet even though I retweeted it. I am desperately trying to get tomorrow's Pitch Your Show edited so that I can concentrate on The Last Ship's Ranker also to be posted tomorrow. I'm excited about The Last Ship returning and I don't want to shaft it in terms of attention so I'm leaving everything else until later except for commenting back to people. I am very excited about Teen Wolf's return though because Jeff Davis has had plenty of time to script a season worthy of its former glory. Glad you are excited about it too.
Sam had most of my favorite lines this season!
ReplyDeleteOnly Justified for me today.
ReplyDeleteOk its kind of unffair to put The Flash agains The Leftovers.... Only voted for The Leftoevrs. It's the only show of those options i watch
ReplyDeleteIt obvious that my name is Oliver Queen is a great episode
ReplyDeleteMy votes:
ReplyDelete1. The Flash - Fast Enough (Fantastic and touching end to the 1st season)
2. Outlander - The Wedding (IMO, one of the BEST episodes of TV this year)
3. The Musketeers - The Accused (IMO, the BEST episode of the show to date and one of my three nominees)
4. N/A
I know you are a big fan of The Musketeers. I never could get into it. I watched the first 8-9 episodes, but it just wasn´t for me. Neither show will have a chance against Outlander. (which is a good show aswell).
ReplyDeleteSam doesnt speak much or have the most memorable lines for the most part but he did say some nice things this season. I think Sam is most liked by the general audience when he's not speaking at all or only saying nice things to Dean. He got in some good ones this season particularly that one from My Brothers Keeper. It was nice especially since he's the character that has to listen to everyone else waffle on and on. I do wish he got more ofthe share of one liners and pop culture refs though.
ReplyDeleteI would say pretty much any show can be considered overrated by someone, whether its with ratings, critical acclaim or a devoted fanbase.
ReplyDeleteThere are only a few shows that SpoilerTV cover that are truly underdog series. Series like Rectify which has very very small ratings, only a few fans on this site and whilst it has some critical support hasn't won or been nominated for any major awards. Same with WGN's Manhattan and Fortitude which recently finished.
All the CW shows have a healthy fanbase here, and most sci-fi/horror/fantasy shows as well.
I get that hype can kill people's enthusiasm for things and that it can put you off wanting to watch a show but sometimes its worth taking a step back from what the fans or critics are saying and just give the show a chance and judge it yourself.
My votes went for The Flash, Orphan Black, Banshee and Justified!
ReplyDeleteA little hope for Justified too pleeease!
ReplyDeleteIt's a totally Marmite show, and a guilty pleasure of mine, I can understand when people don't get into it though. Yep, I think it will be Outlander or PoI who will sweep the board this year. I really enjoyed the first half of Outlander, but although I thought the second half was good, it didn't hold my interest in the same way at all.
ReplyDeleteI think that they do this to make up for some shows having incredibly large fan-bases on this particular site. If they didn't limit it to two shows per series, the competition might be made up of what 6? 7? 8? maybe 10? series. This wouldn't be very fun. You can argue that the smaller fan-base shows will be kicked out in the first round (maybe second), but I like the rule. If a series I haven't even heard of gets nominated, it might be worth checking out.
ReplyDeleteHe had more this year I think than he has in a while. (I like the use of waffle btw) but yeah I hope he starts to get more fun lines. I remember that Sam actually had me laughing more than Dean this year; especially when he's turning Dean back into a human (I hate demons had me applauding) and when they were trying to get info from Metatron (I had to pause the episode when he was sassy with Metatron and my roommates thought I was going crazy). And yeah, I think most people prefer Dean but I love them both equally and was really happy that Sam had a "different role" this year. I liked the switch when they did it back in S3 so it was a nice refresher. I know most people do like Carver and I'm not going to argue with them (I'm learning in my time of comment boards) but I like a lot of the brother moments these past three years and yeah Dean was kinda brought to the forefront these past two especially but again it's kinda nice.
ReplyDeleteUsually the story has this underlying ideology of Dean always worrying about Sam (big brother/little brother thing) but I liked that they had that huge fight in S9 so we could get the moments like the ones we got this year from Sam. There is so much in canon and in fandom about how Dean was basically Sam's parent, but watching Sam worry and care about Dean brings an equality back to the relationship as in not a parent/child relationship but a brother relationship.
I'm a big sister myself and my little sis means everything to me (guess I relate to Dean in that way) and I see a lot of Sam in my little sis in attitude and my sis is just as caring towards me just as Sam was with Dean was this season...idk...maybe I loved Carver's arc because of that...
Outlander only. I haven't watched any of the others yet. (need to catch up on Musketeers). ☺
ReplyDelete
