THE TELEVISION CRITICS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2015 TCA AWARD NOMINEES
Celebrated Dramas ‘The Americans’, ‘Empire’, ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Transparent’ Go Head-To-Head for the Title of Program of the Year
The 31st Annual TCA Awards will be presented on Saturday, August 8, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel
LOS ANGELES – Thursday, June 4, 2015 – The Television Critics Association (TCA) — a media organization with more than 200 professional TV critics and journalists from the United States and Canada — announced today the nominations for the 31st Annual TCA Awards. The 2015 TCA Awards recognize outstanding television programming in the 2014-2015 season, honoring actors, producers and programs in a variety of categories, including news and information, youth, reality, drama and comedy. The winners of the 31st Annual TCA Awards will be announced at the invitation-only presentation on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, as part of the group’s bi-annual industry conference, the summer press tour. The celebrity host for the event will be announced later this month.
The nominations are spread across five broadcast networks—ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and The CW —as well as PBS, nine cable networks and Internet streaming services Netflix and Amazon. HBO leads the way with seven nominations; ABC, CBS, AMC, and FX each have five; Fox, PBS, The CW, and Amazon each have four; NBC and Comedy Central each have three; ABC Family has two; and Netflix, Starz, Logo, Nickelodeon and SundanceTV each finish with one. This year’s roster of notable nominees includes “Veep” star and 2014 TCA Award winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Mad Men” standout Jon Hamm, comedy sensation Amy Schumer, and Oscar® nominee Viola Davis; as well as a wide variety of programming ranging from “Game of Thrones,” “The Big Bang Theory” and “Justified,” to “Sesame Street,” “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” and “Dancing with the Stars,” among others.
This year’s lineup also features a fresh batch of newcomers, with first-time nominees including AMC’s hit “Breaking Bad”-spinoff “Better Call Saul,” starring Bob Odenkirk; Fox’s music industry drama “Empire”; Netflix’s critically acclaimed series “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” co-created by Tina Fey; Amazon’s family dramedy “Transparent,” starring Jeffrey Tambor; HBO news show “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”; The CW favorites “Jane the Virgin” and “The Flash”; and ABC standouts “How To Get Away With Murder” and “Fresh Off The Boat.”
Looking to claim the title of Program of the Year from previous winner, “Breaking Bad”, is a crop of celebrated dramas — FX’s Soviet spy caper “The Americans”; Fox hit “Empire,” created by Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Lee Daniels; HBO’s sweeping fantasy epic “Game of Thrones,” adapted from George R.R. Martin’s esteemed book series; AMC’s decade-spanning ad agency mainstay “Mad Men”; and the first-year Amazon original series “Transparent.”
“TCA members face yet another difficult decision this year, as they prepare to cast their votes for the winners in each category. This was an incredible season for returning favorites and new additions alike, and we’re looking forward to seeing what our members have chosen as the best of the best, when the winners are announced on August 8,” said TCA President Scott D. Pierce, television critic at The Salt Lake Tribune.
The TCA Awards will also bestow a special Heritage Award trophy to one long-standing program that has had a major cultural or social impact. This year, the TCA members have nominated an impressive lineup of some of TV’s most memorable and groundbreaking series, featuring the long-running late night staple “Late Show/Late Night with David Letterman”; beloved sitcom “Friends”; police precinct drama “The Shield,” starring Michael Chiklis and Walton Goggins; Gene Roddenberry’s influential sci-fi saga “Star Trek”; and the mind-bending small town murder mystery “Twin Peaks,” created by visionary auteur David Lynch.
In addition to honoring the absolute best that this year’s programming has to offer, the organization presents a Career Achievement Award to an individual who has influenced television through his or her work on the small screen.
The Summer TCA kicks off Tuesday, July 28 with Netflix; the cable portion of the tour begins Wednesday, July 29; PBS rolls in Saturday, August 1; Amazon presents Monday, August 3; the broadcast segment starts Tuesday, August 4; digital networks present on Sunday, August 9; and the event concludes Thursday, August 13.

Pretty good nomintaions.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for The Flash and Constance Wu. My favorites for sure.
ReplyDeleteWow empire! I do think that HTGAWM deserves a bit more though. HTGAWM is the better show IMO
ReplyDeleteHappy to see CW's The Flash & JtV here.
ReplyDeleteSo deserving names here-Matthew,Bob,Viola,Gina,Constance.I'm rooting for all of them :-)
Have you watched the pilot of JtV?
ReplyDeleteIS Jane the Virgin actually a comedy?
ReplyDeleteOmg yay the flash got nominated.
ReplyDeleteEmpire is definitely overrated.
ReplyDeleteHTGAWM was more procedural with it's cases of the week so that is keeping it from being great.
ReplyDeleteYay Jane z& Switched& Fosters & Gina!!
ReplyDeleteThe Flash nominated!!!! I am so so over the moon with this! Quite unexpected. Now start recognizing Grant Gustin and I will be a happy camper.
ReplyDeleteElsewhere, I am so happy that Constance Wu is getting awards love, even if it is just nominations for now, she deserves it so much.
I very much agree with this. I watched the entire season and there were some really good episodes in there but in my very humble opinion there is absolutely nothing in there apart from the acting of the two main leads (which indeed should be up for every award) that is award worthy and certainly not of the caliber to place it into a best drama or outstanding program category. It is fun to watch and all but as far as that bizarrely hard to define concept that is quality I don't think it deserves it.
ReplyDeleteControversial opinion of the day: Empire is getting majorly overrated and this is someone who likes it speaking.

Me neither, but the genre really isn't for me. I suppose it could be well done for those who like the style. But I am surprised it gets this major recognition from every award show.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that The Flash is there though, for real! And Constance Wu as well!
I also think the guy that plays andre should get an emmy nomination but I think he'll just be ignored.
ReplyDeleteYeah I watched it a day or two after it premiered. Totally not my thing. Felt it to be annoying and meh. I wanted to give it another chance watch ep 2 but when it came to the moment to watch it I really had no desire to do so, had better stuff to watch.
ReplyDeleteIt's good entertainment, but definitely not top quality.
ReplyDeleteAMEN!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten about him. I think he is amazing but Emmy nomination seems a stretch to me, at least for now. I think there are still more worthier performances out there (Mandy Patinkin, Matt Czuchry, Peter Dinkage, Rupert Friend, Jeff Perry, Cristopher Eccleston, Joshua Jackson, Kevin Chapman, just to name a few).
ReplyDeleteI get it.Everyone loved iZombie's pilot but i hated it.I could barely watch it.It happens.
ReplyDeleteI also recently tried the Jane's pilot but really not for me, I felt the same as you and really couldn't get past the ridiculous of it all. Way too over the top and all for me.
ReplyDeleteI watch a lot of CW and Jane really wasn't funny to me and not even that well acted.
ReplyDeleteI don't have an aversion towards telenovelas, watched a bunch of them from 2000-2010( they were quite popular in Serbia) also I was a fan of Ugly Betty.
Honestly at this point for me it feels forced like all the cable shows filling in the major categories. But I'm probably a bit touchy about it.
Flash and Mrs Wu killed it this season, I think really well deserved. I hope Grant will get some recognition as well, he certailny deserves it.
Agreed.
ReplyDeleteWith no power whatsoever vested in me, I hereby award The Americans as best drama and Program of the year and I also award Matthew Rys for best performer
ReplyDeleteDramedy.
ReplyDeleteHTGAWM is excellent and has tons of serialized storylines
ReplyDeleteWith the iZombie I felt cheated. We didn't see any of her transition etc. Ibsticked with the show cause I liked the cast and it payed of.
ReplyDeleteIf I had someone to care I would maybe stick with it and found a touching stone but I really didn't connect to anyone in JtV and the story wasn't compelling enough to make me stick around. As U said it happens.
I don't know if U remembers I was sticking out during last years summer for it. Saying people shouldn't judge etc ect ( I hated the title from the begging) but gave it an honest chance.
I've said it before and I will say it again that, to me, Grant Gustin should be playing in the big acting leagues right now. I very much doubt it happens since 1) He is super young, 2) He is on the CW and 3) He stars on a sci-fi show, which are three bad strikes for award shows, but hey, one can hope.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on Jane feeling a bit forced right now, but well, I don't really watch it enough to judge. That's the hardest part for me with the award shows. Since I obviously don't watch everything, it is hard for me to say for sure that my person needed to be nominated instead of person X even I don't know the full bod of work.
It's an example of perfect hybrid show.
ReplyDeleteI'm just gonna pretend I didn't see this list...
ReplyDeleteI concur.
ReplyDeleteYeah but still the cases of the week took me out of the episodes sometimes and I felt sometimes it wasn't necessary and took up time. I'm sure a lot of the voters feel this way.
ReplyDeleteI totally get this aspect.Everyone has their preferences. As for example, many consider Penny Dreadful,The Leftovers,The Good Wife,Mad Men to be great series but i hated all of them. It's all subjective. One person's trash is another one's treasure :P
ReplyDeleteI like HTGAWM and yes its serialized but there are also procedural aspects that keep it from getting best drama nominations.
ReplyDeletethey are all good actors and it'll definitely be a tight race.
ReplyDeleteThe Leftovers is only for some people. Penny Dreadful is good and I don't care for Mad Men and The Good Wife.
ReplyDeleteI agree.I hope they become more serialized next season.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoyed the cases very much too, I seldom felt bored with them. The balance they had really worked for me.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. I love the mixture of those two!
ReplyDeleteThanks. We all can co-exist without bringing another person down for disliking/liking a particular show.
ReplyDeleteYep Grant is currently holding all the bad cards. For me had some sublime moments this season, especially in the midseason finale when he fall apart in front of Herny.
ReplyDeleteYeah I feel a bit bad for bashing JtV but when I just remember those awful voiceovers and them using the same guy on CrExGf promo, just terrible.
It's tough to keep up with all my shows but it will be interesting to see what the Emmy'as will do after the women dominating on Empire, Scandal and Murderer. It will be silly when the Outlander actress will take the award. Lol.
Outlander is beyond awesome IMO.What a show!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was perfect how they dealt With it
ReplyDeleteYep the most important part. I don't mind silly jokes around shows and keeps things interesting.
ReplyDeleteMad men is bland bullshit, TGW is just pushy, Leftovers are fine but couldn't pull through maybe someday and I never tried PD, glad I didn't.
As Julio said,i also felt sometimes the cases were distracting.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this!
ReplyDeleteRemeber the case with Ana Ortiz when she escaped with her lover. Loved that moment. Perfectly set up.
ReplyDeleteI feel asleep during Mad Men pilot.I suddenly realized the player started replaying the episode from the beginning when i opened my eyes.
ReplyDeleteWhy?These are some pretty good nominations.
ReplyDeleteI think they pushed it a bit to far at the end with the rapes and development and that red guys accent and way of speaking is a bit bordering me, but overall sublime. They really sold that for me. Even though my Dad is more in love than I.
ReplyDeleteIs The Americans Procedural/Serialized?
ReplyDeleteI realize i'm asking this particular question a lot off late!
Serialized.
ReplyDeleteI know what U mean. Great insomnia medecine. ^_^
ReplyDeleteYa,the finale was hard to watch.
ReplyDeleteThank god.I love matthew as an actor,he's too good.I'll give show a try soon.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you will love it.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of most of the stuff in 2nd half of the list, I only watch 3 shows up there and out of the rest of the shows up there that I've tried I hated GOT, Empire, The Flash and JTV :P I guess I'm just in the 1% club lol
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not the type of person who easily says that.
ReplyDeleteBut the moments she fainted I knew she had a bun in her time traveling oven (not sure if I spelt it right).
It is a good show, even though I'm not addicted. I watched a couple of eps with my dad and it is really sneaky, enjoyable and twisty.
ReplyDeleteYes I hope so too. I wonder if they'll be new students for next semester.
ReplyDeleteIt's Rhys lol
ReplyDeleteThere are solid players in this list in each category IMO.
ReplyDeleteNot for me :/ The Americans is something I've been meaning to try for a while though. Maybe Transparent as well.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely watch The Americans.
ReplyDeleteVeep,HTGAWM?
ReplyDeleteGood to see a nomination for the underrated Honourable Woman. Justified won't get outstanding achievement in drama but I wish it would. The Americans as well deserves all the love.
ReplyDeleteThe showrunner confirmed these batch will not be going away anytime soon.Let's see.
ReplyDeleteThe Americans is amazing and if you love Matthew then its a must see.
ReplyDeleteAlready watch HTGAWM, I love that. Veep is a comedy as well right? I'll try it but comedies usually have a hard time winning me over.
ReplyDeletethis lol
ReplyDeleteI think I'll try it later before tonight's shows start and then if I like it I'll binge the rest when I'm done with Sense8.
ReplyDeleteSame case with me.Sitcoms are not my forte in general.
ReplyDeleteSerialized, high stakes, great twists, dark story lines, highly emotional and scintillating performances by Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell. IMHO, The Americans is one of the best dramas currently airing on TV.
ReplyDeleteThat's a prefect way to describe the show.
ReplyDelete*shuffles away embarrassingly to correct the typo*
ReplyDeletelol
ReplyDeleteYou sold it to me really well.Adding it to my watch list this summer.
ReplyDeleteOut of my list for my favorite shows, it's still #4. It's definitely a top 5 drama on TV.
ReplyDeleteGood
ReplyDeleteWhich are the other four, if I may ask?
ReplyDeleteI revised it to a top 3, I can think of only 2 shows that have the same quality of it. Hannibal and Person of Interest.
ReplyDeleteWe are on the same wave length here. :)
ReplyDeleteDisagree. In my opinion it's outstanding but that is just me. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope one day tho that The 100 will be nominated for an award...some day :(
Awesome. Now if only Hannibal can get the recognition it rightfully deserves. At least The Americans is finally receiving it.
ReplyDeleteyay for Constance Wu
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean the Outlander actress? I like Catriona Balfe and I think she is amazing ou Outlander (as is the entire cast, by far the best thing of the show) but I don't think any of them has realistic chances at Emmy nominations.
ReplyDeleteThe lead actress race is actually one I can speak about well since I've watched most or all of the big contenders. I am almost sure they will leave Kerry Washington out and do:
- Viola Davis (How To Get Away with Murder)
- Ruth Wilson (The Affair)
- Taraji P. Henson (Empire)
- Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife)
- Robin Wright (House of Cards)
- Claire Danes (Homeland)
By recognition, you mean awards and/or higher ratings? If so, I certainly hope so.
ReplyDeleteBoth for sure. I do think their is a stronger word of mouth for Season 3, but we'll see.
ReplyDeleteIt is mostly serialized but I still had issues with the show, very hard to explain. I watched up until the end of the second season and while the acting is outstanding and the writing is pretty strong, it didn't "grab" me, I felt like there was something ediger missing, hard to explain. I recognize all the quality it has and it had brilliant moments like the S1 finale but in general I found it a bit too slow paced for my liking so I gave up on it.
ReplyDeleteSeason 2 was, imo, way better than Season 1, so it would make sense that the word of mouth would have spread more after that season than after the first one.
ReplyDeleteI think the reason most people don't watch it is that it's a slow burn.
ReplyDeleteI meant that the Outlander actress will take the posssible Emmy cause she is on cable, not to diminish her brilliant performance and impresisve voice overs.
ReplyDeleteGood nominee choices. Really excellent. I think maybe Kerry W will sneak in a spot, her performance while kidnapped was pure perfection.
After rewatching the show, I forgot how amazing Season 1 was. Season 2 is superior and so phenomenal
ReplyDeleteI think Kerry Washington should sneak in for her performance during the kidnapping arc but I don't know who would leave for her. I think if there was ever a case for 7 nominees it was this one.
ReplyDeleteDon't you find it too slow paced? I watch it but more like a background thing. The pacing is very uneven imo, some scenes are amazing and then we have like 4-5 scenes in which I get bored.
ReplyDeleteHugh Dancy should be up and winning major awards for Hannibal.
ReplyDeleteBoth Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy should be winning awards.
ReplyDeleteBut I can usually take a slow burn. The Leftovers is probably the definition of a slow burn and you know I love that one.The Affair is a slow burn and I loved it too. So I don't think that is my issue with it.
ReplyDeleteSomehow talking with you about it is making me reconsider maybe trying binge watching it later in the summer. But I dunno. Because I thought that watching weekly was the problem so I left the second half of Season 2 for summer binge watch but it didn't really help and at some point I was only going through with it so that I would finish Season 2 and not leave it halfway there.
I agree. Hugh Dancy is a personal favorite of mine though as he falls right into a certain acting spot that is my favorite. Think Matthew Fox, Justin Theroux, Andrew Lincoln... Very bare, emotional actors. I can appreciate the brilliance of a subtle performance too (Kevin Spacey, Mads Mikkelsen, Michael Emerson), but these tend to be the ones I feel personally more drawn to.
ReplyDeleteThe Leftovers is an insane and crazy slow burn. I liked The Affair and it's a show I wouldn't usually watch. I binge watched The Americans Seasons 1 and 2 before Season 3 premiered.
ReplyDeleteJustin Theroux is criminally underrated in The Leftovers.
ReplyDeleteIt will be really thight the girls killed it this season. Also a girl worth of recognition Jennifer Morisson, loved her in those last couple of episodes. Especially in those last minutes of the season.
ReplyDeleteYeah that's my point, those are shows that are slow burns and I still liked them so I don't see why the slow burn would be my problem with The Americans. I have a really hard time pinpointing what it is.
ReplyDeleteI've said it before: he should be the Emmy/GG/Critics whatever winner this year (not even talking about nominations alone). It's a personal opinion but well.
ReplyDeleteI would love it if somehow he got nominated, but their are so many great candidates.
ReplyDeleteJennifer Morisson does some emotional scenes excellently but I don't think she is nearly on the same level as the remainder of the group. I personally think Emily VanCamp is the one that would be worthy of further consideration but it will never ever happen. People may say what they want about the quality of the 4th season of Revenge but the material it created allowed for her to shine in a remarkable manner, I thought it was her best acting season on the show.
ReplyDeleteThat's really weird, but I do hope you give The Americans another chance.
ReplyDeleteWho are your 6 picks? Out of curiosity (and I know this depends entirely of the shows you watch and don't watch so it can never be fair)
ReplyDeleteWe'll see. Do you watch Masters of Sex? That show is CRIMINALLY underrated. I wish more people would give it a try. Some of the best acting/ directing/ writing I've seen on TV.
ReplyDeleteNo. It's not my type of show, but I do know it's underrated and a great show.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to think about this one. Just wait one sec.
ReplyDeleteThe bigger issue with JenMo is that she gets real emotional stuff every season finale and once or two time during the show, maybe. Those other ladies have a lot more space to shine and prove themselves.
ReplyDeleteEmily is amazing, her performance was outmstanding. She has a wide palet of emotions to use and she is mostly on point. People are to judgy.
I have no clue how Tatiana Maslany gets screwed every year. Lets see what happens this year.
Emotional actors - you are so right. These are the type of actors that really pull you in with their performances. As you said, subtle performers are also brilliant but like you, I am more drawn towards the actors who wear their emotions on their sleeves.
ReplyDeleteMatthew Rhys, Justin Theroux, Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy, Bob Ordenkirk, and Ben Mendelsohn.
ReplyDeleteIt's slow paced,i agree. Then again,Breaking Bad also had this same feature in Season 2 which i liked,so i have no problem with it coz the acting & the production value is impeccable!
ReplyDeleteI think if Tatiana Maslany wasn't nominated for the previous two seasons, she won't be this year. But I agree that it is a crime, as insane as that category is.
ReplyDeleteI agree that JenMo gets hurt for being in such an ensemble show but in any case, I think even her best is not on the same league as these other ladies, as much as I personally like her ever since her House days.
Two in common isn't too bad! But I doubt Hannibal is eligible this year by the way! Season 2 was up for last year and Season 3 is just about to start, will it still count?
ReplyDeleteYeah I hear you ;) It is a matter of preference but those are the ones that really do it for me.
ReplyDeleteI almost feel bad saying this but I don't like Breaking Bad lol, probably the only person on the planet.
ReplyDeleteHopefully it is.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. You are explaining my situation with Orphan Black exactly.
ReplyDeleteYou found Orphan Back slow paced? That's a first I am hearing. It's really weird how some shows don't click.
ReplyDeleteFair enough, I remain alone in my undying love for the show.
ReplyDeleteI agree the others seem superior but still think she deserves a nominee.
ReplyDeleteBut the moment the Emmy's stopped handing out nominations to GA they fall apart for me.
Also a person that got screeed over is Nina Dobrev. I mean people can like her or not but in S02 she delivered an amazing performance , undeniable. But just as Grant, the person who started this discussion, she has the 3 failing cards, young , CW and scifi.
What are your 6 picks?
ReplyDeleteI agree on Nina Dobrev for some of the early seasons. That's actually a reason why I don't mind Jane the Virgin taking over the award shows so much, as it seems to be opening the roads for CW shows not being ignored in the future.
ReplyDeleteSince Hannibal is excluded, I'll put Michael Emerson and Jon Hamm in.
ReplyDeleteVery tough category. Probably these:
ReplyDelete- Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead)
- Grant Gustin (The Flash) [and yes, I am damn serious here]
- Hugh Dancy (Hannibal)
- Justin Theroux (The Leftovers)
- Kevin Spacey (House of Cards)
- Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex)
Also good with the inclusions of: Terrence Howard (Empire), Dominic West (The Affair) Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) or Michael Emerson (Person of Interest), but I think those 6 are my picks.
Mad Men is another one I never got into but I only tried the pilot for that one.
ReplyDeleteNever seen it and I don't plan to. We all know Hamm will finally win his Emmy for Don Draper.
ReplyDeleteNot really sure he can beat Kevin Spacey though
ReplyDeleteHe will. Final Season of Mad Men and his Emmy is long overdue.
ReplyDeleteWell Hugh Laurie and Michael C. Hall both absolutely should have won Emmys and we all know how that went. I don't think that's a good enough reason for it to happen.
ReplyDeleteNo,i was talking about your feeling about The Americans.Orphan Black is anything but slow paced.
ReplyDeleteAh that makes sense then!
ReplyDeleteI think it is especially for Mad Men.
ReplyDeleteI think Nina did her masterwork in S02, overall it was solid but that was her best year. Honorable mention to her Transition episode at that memorial in S04, that was one of her highlights as well.
ReplyDeleteJtV overall getting all that praise will hopefully easy up things for the current and upcoming Cw stars and give them a chance or at least be considered for the nominations. Step by step.
I heard plenty people say Jensen from SPN deserves a nominations apparently he is outstanding.
Some found it overrated, that i understand. But not liking it altogether is beyond my understanding if i'm being totally honest.I almost didn't eat, sleep & work after Breaking Bad ended. That's how obsessed i was about this show. So,when someone says they didn't like it,i cannot pretend to behave i understand. Not for this one.I hope you understand what i'm saying.
ReplyDeleteMeh maybe, I am not convinced. Definetely possible but I don't think it is a sure thing. Goldderby has them as toss-ups.
ReplyDeleteI would be shocked if he didn't win, but then again Jeff Daniels won 2 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI've watched the first 3 seasons of Supernatural (I've been binge watching 1 season each Christmas hiatus lol) and I think he is great but Emmy worthy? Not sure. People need to remember that there are only 6 spots. So when they say someone needs a nomination they/ we are implicitly saying that someone that is there doesn't deserve one. It's very tough. It's like the Jennifer Morison thing we were talking. I agree that she is good but I don't really agree with her being better than the 7 ladies in contention so I don't think she deserves a nomination as that would require bumping one of them.
ReplyDeleteYeah sure, no big deal lol. I have a lot of friends who tell me the same thing. But I even watched the entire first season to give it a fair shot because SO many people said it was SO awesome (usually when I don't like it I don't give nearly as much of a chance) but I was just bored and mostly not interested, apart from 2 episodes in there. I couldn't really connect with the main character which was a problem for me. And I am a huge fan of some anti-heroes shows (Dexter is an all time favorite).
ReplyDeleteHe was great in The Newsroom, an imperfect but amazing show, but yeah that came out of the blue. As did John Cryer taking it from Jim Parsons a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteHe was great, but definitely did not deserve to win it.
ReplyDeleteTaraji n Constance....love them both. Happy for Flash n Empire both shows r highly entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI promissed Shannon I would give it a try but don't have time atm. Maybe during late july-august I'll try it.
ReplyDeleteU really have to deserve that nomination and I really didn't think Gina would get that GG right away was really surprised. FYI I loved her speech, an amazing one.
Nothing for Sons of Anarchy? What the fuck! That show is gonna go down as the most snubbed show in the history of award shows!
ReplyDeleteI wish that was the case but without naming names I've seen certain people bad mouth certain shows on here.
ReplyDeleteHow can the Flash and JTV be nominated for outstanding new program instead of HTGAWM?
ReplyDeleteThere will always be trolls & Haters. We just have to ignore them as much as logically possible.
ReplyDeleteBut that opening scene in The Newsroom was phenomenal and he deserved to win for that alone.
ReplyDeleteOh man, let The CW have it's moment.
ReplyDeleteGreat for Jane love that the show it's getting recognition.
ReplyDeleteBut one of them is somehow an administrator here yet they get to bad mouth shows on here with no consequences.
ReplyDeleteOT: since you are an AoS fan, I thought I Would tell you that i am one now as well!!! Tomorrow i will watch the season 1 finale
ReplyDeletesame here I don't watch any of the cable shows that been nominated and never will. I miss the days where network tv would be nominated over cable shows
ReplyDeleteI don't mind more cable shows being nominated, I think they're better than broadcast in general. I'd just prefer if shows I didn't consider to be terrible or boring were constantly nominated :P
ReplyDeleteAnything that nominates Empire loses all the credibility with me.
ReplyDeleteDoes his name start with 5 letter?
ReplyDeleteI love all of them except the last one.
ReplyDeleteWhy not the last one?
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any of his work to judge, that's why.
ReplyDeleteOh, he's brilliant in Bloodline.
ReplyDeleteMy personal Fav-Hugh Dancy.I worship his acting skills. What an actor!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite for TV lol.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick, it would be Matthew Rhys or Mads Mikkelsen.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder we both are crazy about Hannibal.LOL!
ReplyDeleteLess than 6 hours lol.
ReplyDeleteMy Day could not get any worse-I have a 12 hr shift in the ER tomorrow.I just got informed. So,i cannot watch it before night. It's 5 AM here.GRRRRRRRR!!
ReplyDeleteThat sucks
ReplyDeleteIKR? The world is conspiring against me.I'll try to watch it before TVBTN's ratings thread is up so i don't miss out on any discussions.
ReplyDeletePlease do
ReplyDeleteHappy for The Americans I'm still behind from season 2..Looking forward to my summer binge, but from what I understand it is still getting snubbed besides this and Critic's Choice. And I'll be honest, I have seen a couple episodes of the Flash and a few of JTV. After falling in love with the 100 I actually wanted to give several shows on the CW a chance, but I just couldn't. When can the 100 have its moment?
ReplyDeleteI will.
ReplyDeleteJust making sure lol
ReplyDeleteTHRILLED because..
ReplyDeleteMatthew Rhys
Game of Thrones
The Americans
Jane the Virgin
Viola Davis
Gina Rodriguez
Taraji P. Henson
Switched at Birth
The Flash
HOW is Tatiana Maslany not up there? She is quite literally mind-blowing.
I wish Chris Messina was nominated.
I enjoyed Empire, and Taraji is definitely outstanding and deserves a nod, but the show overall is not as hyped as it is made to be.
Man you have some great TV to watch. The season 1 finale was great. Pretty much all of season 2 was great and the finale was insane. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'm worried about being banned myself so I'm afraid to.
ReplyDeleteDisagree....I love this show n the praise it receives is more than warranted not to mention TnT r two of the best this industry has hands down.
ReplyDelete2 for The CW for Oustanding New Drama - will wonders never cease! Pedowitz is doing a fine job with The CW. Add in COnstance Wu for comedy and possibly Viola Davis getting the acting kudos she so richly deserves and this is a decent list. Not for the top honor, but the others look good.
ReplyDeleteYou can criticize shows without attacking people. That's part of discussion. I think it's very valid to say that you don't like a show, especially when you cite reasons. Attacking people is a big no-no here there.
ReplyDeleteVeep is an acquired taste. For me, the comedic effects are all over the episode, but it's so easy to miss, especially if you do not hear every single word clearly. For that reason a lot of times it's funnier when you watch the second time instead of the first.
ReplyDeleteThe awards seem to be equating ratings with quality when it comes to Empire. Perhaps they are jsut trying to thank it for saving broadcast primetime.
ReplyDeleteHow is it that Switched and The Fosters get nominated but Chasing Life doesn't. Jas anyone seen what Otalia Ricci can do on that show? She's amazing, the emotions are incredible. The whole cast is actually very very good at what they do on that show. Italia stands out though, she's a hell of an actress. Can't wait to see what big movies she does.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the AOS fandom! It is great that people keep on discovering the show. The S1 finale is fantastic and S2 is just wow.
ReplyDeleteWhen The Flash and Empire get nominated for best new programming, I have to really question the legitimacy of these "critics". Nothing against these two shows, but overall, these two shows do not have the merit to be the top 5 on TV. I can think of many that were better, but they aren't as well known so they got passed over for easy press.
ReplyDeleteCritics are at the point where they fear a "backlash" if they don't nominate Empire. I can get behind Taraji as lead actress, but I'd love for someone to explain why Empire qualifies in terms of merit as best series. When people talk about the show, they mention one specific character, not the show itself for a reason.
ReplyDeleteHomicide: Life On The Street proves that a case of the week show can be amazing TV. Same with ER, Hill Street Blues, LA Law, and early Law and Order.
ReplyDeleteShocked to see The Flash among the nominees, bit very happy for it!
ReplyDeleteAs someone who watched a few episodes of Empire, I can't understand what's the big deal about it.
I always do appreciate the TCA nominations more.
ReplyDeleteIt's always clearly less political and more about actual quality.
The Americans keeps rolling on every award, it'll be heartbreaking when the Emmys ignore it, same to Jane the Virgin.
ReplyDeleteLate reply but it kind of scares me Empire getting tons of nominations based on popularity alone, especially when the Emmys are more prone to give praise to the top hits (they did it do the early seasons of Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy and even CSI).
ReplyDeleteI'm fine with Taraji getting nominations, she is the reason why people like it and a great actress, but she has already won the critics' choice over Viola Davis and Kerri Russell and is a lock to be an Emmy nomination.
By the way, if there is a show that's going to be hurt by Empire awards-wise is Scandal, their voters shifted to Empire now.
Well with other great shows that dont have to resort to the case of the week format that just means HTGAWM won't be getting nominated for best drama in any awards shows but it's still a good show.
