Strike Back: Legacy - Episode 3 - Review: "The Duo is M.I.A."
Jun 18, 2015
JR Reviews Strike Back UK ShowsIt was all hands on deck for Section 20 in another action packed hour on the final season of Sky1 and Cinemax's Strike Back: Legacy.
Julian Holmes did a great job in the director's chair, with James Dormer picking up the writing credits for Episode 3. With the corrupt Thai police no longer in the picture, the enemy of the week turned out to be the Yakuza, originating from Japan. The wife of deceased ambassador Foster, Mei, was also in the thick of it this week as her allegiances with North Korea and her high rank in Office 39 became much clearer.
Seeing Julia Richmond and Damien Scott share a moment of intimacy was great, but little did the couple know it would be the last time they'd see each other for the time being. As was teased last week, Scott's son Finn arrived in Bangkok. Fellow Australian actor Christian Antidormi picks up the guest role here and while ok, his performance wasn't anything spectacular.
Father and son saw plenty of airtime as well as time together. A trigger-happy BMW and dirt bike chased after the pair's Jeep with Scott forcing his son's head down throughout the chase before eventually veering down a steep bank to evade their enemies. The pair spent the rest of the hour trekking through jungle, though the Yakuza caught up with them in the final moments.
It's a big change to Strike Back's traditional narrative when Scott and Stonebridge don't see any action at all together. They spent a few minutes interrogating Foster's assistant Luane but that was about it. The show is never quite the same when the creative team do this, but this time round it looks as if things could turn out to be well worth watching.
With Scott with his son, it was up to Stonebridge, Richmond, Martinez and Locke to manage the crib, but the Yakuza turned up in numbers and fired plenty of bullets. A couple of casualties resulted but fortunately they weren't anyone of importance. The Yakuza set themselves upon Section 20 after Mei pinned the blame on the death of their leader on them in the opening moments of the hour.
That sealed the team's fate for the remainder of the hour as they sought to track down Mei's location. Locke and Richmond went to the family home, but Mei evaded them while Richmond and Stonebridge had a crack at a car dealership where a significant amount of lead was fired. The intel from that lead the team to an island in the Gulf of Thailand where heavy enemy resistance forced them to retreat, albeit minus Stonebridge this time who was caught out of position and forced to abandon his attempt at reaching the exfiltration point.
That's where Episode 3 of Strike Back: Legacy came to a close. With both Scott and Stonebridge missing in action, next week's installment should produce some interesting moments as we see how the formidable duo perform on their own, though Scott still has his son in tow. The promo has a couple of great looking moments in it too.

i feel like watching 24 which is a compliment. and my guess was right(somewhat) scott son got stuck in the middle but the interesting one is scott and mickey got seperated.i think this reunion bw scott and mikey is gonna be kickass and EPIC.
ReplyDeleteAs past seasons the episodes are linked in pairs, but before they released 2 episodes at once. It is going to be a long week .... I wish I live in the UK. I like the father son twist, cannot wait how this is going to turn out. Also that Damien and Michael are separated is new, not a bad idea ... I am looking forward to the conclusion next week. Funny how Michael was calling out to Damien in one of the last scenes.... I bet we are getting such a remark from Damien as well.. My only complaint about this episodes is that it leaves us hanging until next week. Such a pity that season 5 is the last season, I could watch them for years.
ReplyDeleteI love 24, but in a way Strike Back is more intense than 24 because of the short season. I also like that here the lead is a team, Jack Bauer was always more of a loner and without any humor.
ReplyDelete24 has nothing on Strike Back. It's inferior in so many ways.
ReplyDeleteGood thoughts. I hope we may get an extended length series finale - that would really send things out on a high
ReplyDeleteI quit my 9-5 work and today I get paid $85 per\hr. How? I work over internet! My last job didn't exactly make me happy ,so I made a decision to try something different… After Two years...I can say it was a life changing decision for me! Check it out, what it is about...< www.Buzz-Review.com >
ReplyDeleteTo be fair 24 was quite exceptional when it first aired, the time concept and storylines were quite new at that time. Strike Back's concept was always different almost not comparable, no commercials, adult targeted and shown in a short period of time...TV has changed a lot over the last years, violence apparently sells well and as many people watch TV on demand or binge watch later a whole season concepts change. In my theory Daredevil would not have gotten the recognition had it aired weekly, with hiatus, and tons of commercial breaks.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I really enjoy Strike Back as long as it will last. And I am relieved that Sullivan Stapleton will return this Fall on TV with Blindspot... But I wouldn't mind a return of Jack Bauer either.
On a different note, the short moment of Scott and Richmond felt weird and a bit out of place. But maybe it is just me, I liked Scott better with the girl fro Season 1 Episodes 6 and 7 or the Mossad Agent.
