It was all hands on deck for Section 20 in another action packed hour on the final season of Sky1 and Cinemax's Strike Back: Legacy.
Julian Holmes did a great job in the director's chair, with James Dormer picking up the writing credits for Episode 3. With the corrupt Thai police no longer in the picture, the enemy of the week turned out to be the Yakuza, originating from Japan. The wife of deceased ambassador Foster, Mei, was also in the thick of it this week as her allegiances with North Korea and her high rank in Office 39 became much clearer.
Seeing Julia Richmond and Damien Scott share a moment of intimacy was great, but little did the couple know it would be the last time they'd see each other for the time being. As was teased last week, Scott's son Finn arrived in Bangkok. Fellow Australian actor Christian Antidormi picks up the guest role here and while ok, his performance wasn't anything spectacular.
Father and son saw plenty of airtime as well as time together. A trigger-happy BMW and dirt bike chased after the pair's Jeep with Scott forcing his son's head down throughout the chase before eventually veering down a steep bank to evade their enemies. The pair spent the rest of the hour trekking through jungle, though the Yakuza caught up with them in the final moments.
It's a big change to Strike Back's traditional narrative when Scott and Stonebridge don't see any action at all together. They spent a few minutes interrogating Foster's assistant Luane but that was about it. The show is never quite the same when the creative team do this, but this time round it looks as if things could turn out to be well worth watching.
With Scott with his son, it was up to Stonebridge, Richmond, Martinez and Locke to manage the crib, but the Yakuza turned up in numbers and fired plenty of bullets. A couple of casualties resulted but fortunately they weren't anyone of importance. The Yakuza set themselves upon Section 20 after Mei pinned the blame on the death of their leader on them in the opening moments of the hour.
That sealed the team's fate for the remainder of the hour as they sought to track down Mei's location. Locke and Richmond went to the family home, but Mei evaded them while Richmond and Stonebridge had a crack at a car dealership where a significant amount of lead was fired. The intel from that lead the team to an island in the Gulf of Thailand where heavy enemy resistance forced them to retreat, albeit minus Stonebridge this time who was caught out of position and forced to abandon his attempt at reaching the exfiltration point.
That's where Episode 3 of Strike Back: Legacy came to a close. With both Scott and Stonebridge missing in action, next week's installment should produce some interesting moments as we see how the formidable duo perform on their own, though Scott still has his son in tow. The promo has a couple of great looking moments in it too.
