ABC FAMILY GREENLIGHTS SCRIPTED DRAMA PILOT “STAY”

AS NETWORK LOOKS TO INCREASE ITS ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING DRAMA JOINS OTHER PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED PILOTS “BEYOND” AND “GORGEOUS MORONS”

Burbank, CA (June 11, 2015) – As ABC Family works to double its original programming over the next four years, the network has greenlit pilot production on a new one-hour drama “Stay.” This drama pilot joins previous pilot orders for “Gorgeous Morons” and supernatural drama “Beyond.”

“’Stay’ is an emotionally powerful story about a fractured family that comes back together under the most unexpected of circumstances,” said Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development, ABC Family. “’Stay’ is a haunting and surprising ride that we are excited to bring to life.”

“Stay” is an edge-of-your-seat thriller about a recently widowed police detective and his two daughters who are stranded at a foreboding hotel and must unravel the hotel’s mysteries to escape. “Stay” is written and executive produced by Spenser Cohen. Jon Turteltaub (“National Treasure,” “Sorcerer’s Apprentice”) will direct the pilot and also serve as Executive Producer, along with Anna Halberg.

They're working to double their programming in the next 4 years? So...11 to 22? Seems like a lot for a cable network.

Please let 1-2 of those be a Marvel show, preferably Ms Marvel.

  4. That's still in the works for ABC.

Yeah I know. I'm hoping it'll go to ABC Family since it fits the diversity lineup they've been building up.

  6. PLL, Stitchers, the Fosters, SAB, Chasing Life, Melissa and Joey (final season), Baby Daddy, Young and Hungry, and the upcoming Kevin at Work, Mortal Instruments, and Recovery Road does make 11 scripted shows. ABC Family is adding several reality shows this summer though so I am not sure if original programming means all scripted. I think it is very likely that many of their dramas end up doing 13-16 episode seasons and not the 20 episode seasons.

  7. ABC Family s shows are usually very good, so i am happy they want to double it. I can't wait for new season of Chasing Life and Switched at Birth. Even PLL is surprisingly good this season again. I hope The Fosters can get better again, because this season's first episode was the worst episode yet. And Stitchers is pretty good so far

True, they have about 4 shows confirmed in development right now so if it does refer to scripted programming then they're slowly starting to build up that lineup.

I tend to agree with them going for shorter seasons. Chasing Life was already reduced to 13 for it's 2nd season and Shadowhunters is meant to be a limited series.

They've been pretty coy about how many episodes are in the 3rd season of The Fosters and 5th season of Baby Daddy too, so they could have been reduced.

  9. I understand and I am happy about them doubling up their shows I mean if you think about it stitchers might be cancelled and pretty little liars will be off in 2017 THATS 2 years from now.

Melissa And Joey ends this August too, so that's another show they're losing. I'm thinking Switched At Birth will be gone within 2 years too. It's starting to really drop this season,

  11. I thought I had read something months ago that Stitchers was 13 episodes but that appears to be incorrect.
Stay sounds more like a limited 13 episode series than a 20 episode series to me. Same with the other thriller in development, Beyond,

  14. I think ABC Family might want to keep Monday night as "drama night" with Tuesday night as "genre night" with their thrillers/supernatural type shows. But putting reality on Monday changes things a bit. Drama they have the Fosters, Chasing Life (not sure if CL gets a renewal after season 2) and upcoming Recovery Road to go along with SAB. I think you are right about SAB.

  16. Why not? it sounds interesting.

  17. Although it sounds like 666 Park Avenue.

  18. I forgot about Shadow Hunters also. But even The Fosters and Baby Daddy has their limits so who knows what they mean by "Doubling Up"

  19. I think it sounds more like Persons Unknown and a little like The Prisoner/Wayward Pines, you only got stuck in the hotel in 666 if you died there. ;) The description makes it sound lite sci-fi, wonder if there are any fantastical elements to it.

  20. If it wasn't on ABC family, I'd say it sounds interesting and can have potential... knowing how they usually handle their dramas I'm not that optimistic.
