It's amazing! I'm on episode 4 now so just finishing the introduction episodes, can't wait to really get into it :)
ReplyDeleteJust finished episode 3 and while I know the critics are not loving it, I think it's phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteWhile the main plot may be slow moving the character development makes up for it in a huge way, it feels like these characters have been plucked straight out of reality.
As We sit on the couch and watch it as an interracial homosexual couple, we can't help but feel sense8 is more about the evolution of our world and how are we are more connected and more accepting than ever.
I have to download all of them later today. From your comment,it's quite evident Netflix has delivered AGAIN :)
ReplyDeleteThey certainly have, it has everything in it! I really love the diversity, it's incredible and all their connections just adds a whole other level. Apparently it was done like a 12 hour movie with episodes 1-4 being the "introduction", 5-6 introducing a "complication" (whatever that means) and 7-12 being the "shit we're in trouble" part, the quotes being from the creator.
ReplyDeleteI hope it does well because it's very different, It's getting reviews from all ends of the spectrum and I understand why. Personally I think it's a type of show we need more of (dealing with real life issues people tend to ignore or treat lightly). I hope you enjoy it when you get to see it :)
I'm currently on episode 3,so far i am impressed.
ReplyDeleteFinishing up ep 1. I actually love it so far, I understand why it may take a few hours for others to get into it. But I hope this show builds an big strong fandom
ReplyDeleteJust watched episode 5, my favourite so far :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start later today.
ReplyDeleteSame here while this was not an explosion I'm intrested to keep going. I always had a thing for multi protagonist stories and I hope it gets better
ReplyDeleteJust finished episode 2 and OMG and already so many good stuff, Lito boyfriend is so funny and the whole scene with Lito & his boyfriend & the girl was hilarious
ReplyDeletealso the scene of the car chase was great
Spoilers will be marked in case your worried about reading this.
ReplyDeleteI just finished the season and wow that was such an epic season. It even surpasses Penny Dreadful for me, and I love that show. It was fantastic from the very beginning and then after episode 4 it just starts a steep uphill climb in quality! It's really amazing. I was going to put my favourite episodes but each episode is better than the last.
I adore all the characters, most of them equally but this would be my preference from favourite to least favourite:
Wolfgang=Will=Lito=Riley>Sun>Nomi>Kala>Capheus
Before I get to the spoilery part I'll just say overall I'd highly recommend this show, it takes some time to get into it (as I said above, after episode 4 it really kicks off) but it's worth it. These are the general things I liked (spoiler free):
- The music and opening credits are brilliant and fit the show perfectly The cinematography is superb as well.
- There is a perfect balance between action, character development, comedy (not much comedy but it's placed perfectly), and plot advancement. As well as that, the side stories (and there are many) don't feel like side stories, they aren't out of place and in fact are necessary to build these characters to what they become.
- There have been shows with diversity but none like this, it has everything. (Except an aro-ace character which I'm still waiting for, in anything!)
- The action sequences are absolutely stunning, you can really tell The Wachowskis were involved.
- The characters stories are brilliantly done to involve and even influence other members of the cluster.
- The "sharing one mind" thing is done seamlessly, no ridiculous explanation or plotholes, it's believable (as far as sci-fi can go ofc!)
- The characters relationship with each other is developed so well, it's rare for every character and relationship to have perfect development in a show but Sense8 accomplished that and makes the show much more enjoyable.
Now on to my favourite scenes and qoutes, there were a lot I loved and I'm probabaly leaving several out but these are my favourite moments off the top of my head in a random order (**MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD**):
- Sex8! At least that's what I call it, when they all had that weird orgy that totally blew my mind.
- This Will/Riley qoute: "Are you alright?"..."Sometimes"
- Lito and Hernando's relationship, I loved them, and I loved the trio of Lito/Hernando/Daniela as well.
- All the action sequences! Specifically that car flip thing with Capheus, the bazooka with Wolfgang and the fight scene Sun had with the Machete.
- Wolfgang and Lito helping each other out with their fights and Wolfgang paraphrasing Lito back to him later on.
- Lito appearing with Wolfgang when Wolf had a gun to his head, I thought was an interesting moment, with Lito being possibly suicidal and miserable.
- Everyone using their skills one by one in the finale, that was very cool and seamlessly done too.
- Wolfgang shooting Steiner (I think that was his name) repeatedly in the face. I've never seen anything like that before! Normally they don't show the body, the violence of it really gets across when they do!
- Riley's mother punching the glass out with her fist and walking with her newborn baby through the snow and mountains.
- Will and Riley on those same mountains, Will getting ready to kill them both and then drugging himself and gettin Riley to save them.
- The entire cluster on the boat at the end.
**SPOILERS END**
Sorry this is a bit long, there are lots of other moments I liked, just too many to list! I really enjoyed the show though, I hope it's renewed, definitely joining the ranks as one of my favourites. My expectations were high for this one but it managed to totally surpass them!
I really liked the first episode. I am kinda annoyed that they all speak English but I guess with having so many different characters in different countries, half of the episode would be subtitles. Otherwise I am very surprised as I didn't feel as confused as I thought. In my opinion with the little things connecting the characters it didn't feel to weird jumping through the storylines. I will defs continue watching to see where this all goes. :)
ReplyDeleteMan for these Netflix Series that come out all at once, this comment section need like Passwords to unlock more episode comments.
ReplyDeleteEpisode 1 & 2
Anyway Last night only finished 2 episode. And I really like all the details so far. I love these types of sci-fi shows. This is like In Your Eyes movie but with 8 Sensates the bonding experience becomes much much better. This series also reminds me of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer a manga that also has a group of strangers who work together. Anyways basically I really like it.
So far we only have introductions to the lives and moments of connection, but I can't wait till they all know of each other and start working in sync to help each other form far.
Btw the first episode Opening scene was really strong I liked that moment a lot.
I like all the Sensates not are dis-likable to me. Some need more help then others, and there is someone in the group who can help them for sure. I can't wait till Nomi meets Lito to give him hope in being free to be who he wants to be. And Look forward more to Sun's story
On to another journey of kinda sorta binge watching 12 Netflix episodes.
ReplyDeleteEpisode 1 of Sense8, here I come.
Since everyone is liking it, I will give it a chance. Not today though. I'll probably start tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteSuch a bad script. Cheesy and predictable. The Wachowskis have truly ran out of ideas. And of course, overexploring homosexuality, race, religion. I hate when shows shove diversity in my face, so proud of having it. Shut up and do a story with actual characters and plot, stop trying to send a message. It's been received long ago. (Note that this is coming from a gay person.)
ReplyDeleteOn episode 4 now, show is very good but a little slow, I love the originality and uniqueness towards it's concept and I'm glad something so expressive is being integrally produced. There are a few flaws, some of the plots are a little weak and the over-exploring of themes may become a little tedious, however, the Wachowskis are moving away from the norm and trying to show diversity and individuality - it's refreshing to see.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the plots will pay off, and I'm so happy to see something so beautifully creative come with our screens (also with a hint of mystery and grit) - on to Episode 4!
i just watched the first episode and it's amazing! Haven't seen someting so good since BSG
ReplyDeleteThat was a horrible insult to BSG.
ReplyDeleteI just finished episode one and man,it seems very slow and a bit tedious, but let's see how it turns out. Onto episode 2!
ReplyDeleteThe large cast is probably the shows weaker points because I see a point to a lot of them. A smaller cast definately would have helped this show.
ReplyDeleteGoing to Watch 3 episodes tonight.
ReplyDeleteEpisode one shows that teh series is slow, they need to build momentus for each character and we saw a little bit more of three of four of them, than the otehrs. That opening scene and final minutes were really good.
Going for episode two now.
So far Will feels liek the main character, he is the one that it's getting the answers right? Im on ep 3 i will watch 3 more tomorrow but so far he is the one that ahs interacted more with jonas plus he ha dthe conection with Sara when he was a kid.
ReplyDeleteI just finished all the episodes, the first episode is really awful IMO, I was ready to bail after I finished it. I am very open minded & far from a prude but it was hard for me to not shut it off when Nomi & Amuneta were introduced, that scene was a bit much even for me. The scenes that followed with them were badly acted & just over the top. It almost seemed like the first episode was meant solely to shock viewers instead of properly introducing the show. With that said I am glad I cringed through it because they become two of the best characters by the end of the season. After 3 eps I was intrigued enough to continue on but until episode 8 I wan't overly attached to the show or characters, those final 4 episodes is where everything starts to shine, the last 2 episodes being extremely worth watching the previous 10.
ReplyDeleteOMG I JUST finished the season and maybe is a little too slow in the beginning but after that is amazing. For me is the best show of netflix.
ReplyDeletei agreed with all the best moments but i think you miss. the part of Wolfgang singing What's up.
ReplyDeleteI'll just keep editing this post
ReplyDeleteEpisode 1: 8/10
The way it ended makes me want a S2 since there are a lot of questions nagging at me.
ReplyDelete1) To protect the other seven, is Will going to be kept in a continuous state of unconsciousness?
2) Can he be saved? What will Riley (and others) do to save him?
3) Will Sun get out of prison? If so, how?
4) What will happen with Wolfgang and Kala?
5) Jonas was still a prisoner at the end - what is going to happen to him?
6) Are there other clusters of eight out there? Or is this the only one?
To sum up, after watching the entire 12 episodes I came away having mixed emotions towards this show. I think the setup story took up way too many episodes and the show could have done less with its preachy tones. But then again, the character interactions were very good and the final four episodes overall are quite fine . And the finale left me wanting to know more.
I would be happy if Netflix gives this a S2 and we get the chance to meet these characters again.
Thoughts?
not all of us. I have no issues with homosexual/identity stuff in it expect say Lito's is cliche and overdone. But it's more a syfy setting with no real plot or at least one that barely develops and more of character driven show with no real story. But since I was expecting a more syfy type story to be heavily involved this one is failure for me. Most of the characters are not even connected to the almost main story that driving everything.
ReplyDeleteagreed, the story they are(or not?) trying to tell gets lost in in too many predictable and cliche characters.
ReplyDeleteyep, not even a syfy story, just a syfy setting. There is barely a story to speak of in this.
ReplyDeleteEpisode 4: Will is the one that getting all the answers. Its kind of unffair for the others but i guess that's the cool thing of this show, to see how the others freak out for what is happening to them. The musical number between Wolfgang and Kala was so sweet and how Will helped Nomi was amazing and bravo for Amanita for being there.
ReplyDeleteEpisode 5: So cool seeing these two (Railey and Van Damme) not freaking out when they met and then having a civil conversation with Sun. Lito is all kinds of awesome xD. I have to say they know how to end every chapter to keep you wondering more and more things. Naomi's mom is really fucked up. The ceremony and how all went down with all the 8 was definetly the best.
Episode 6 to 9 i will leave it for tonight.
I've just finished episode 7. I can't believe it's taken this long for there to be some kind of plot! However, I'm hooked and I don't know why!
ReplyDeleteVery ambitious, but not very successful. Very slow with a sloppy narrative.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how I feel about it just yet, but after 2 episodes I don't find it very interesting or well done.
I'll give it one or two more episodes to change my mind, but I'm not hopeful...
Finished this morning and it was amazing
ReplyDeleteThe first two episodes didn't engage me at all and I wasn't going to press play on episode 3 until like next week but I did and I'm glad because I started getting into more and loved the fight scenes at the end. I've just finished episode 4 and the 4 Non Blondes scene was so great. Will watch some more tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way as you but the end of ep 3 had me much more interested and ep 4 was good as well, so I say try those out at least.
ReplyDeleteI respect the attempt to do something different so I plan to watch at least 2 more episodes, but not right now. I need a break after the first two! xd
ReplyDeleteHah I needed a break after the 1st episode, I was so bored! But yeah seems like it is improving at least which is something. The Wachowskis are very unique with their work, it doesn't always work for me (see Jupiter Ascending) but I think Sense8 may be like Cloud Atlas which started slow and by the end of it I was hooked and really involved in the story and characters.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not for everyone but I like that Netflix is doing a range of series and this is like nothing you would see in conventional TV, for better or for worse!
Agreed on the Wachowskis...
ReplyDeleteI often find their work pretentious and over-stylized.
That is not to say it is always bad... It is what it is.
*SPOILER* I thought that it was Riley who had the accident and lost her baby. Might be wrong but I thought that is why she visited her boyfriend's grave?!
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything, I really loved this series and the characters order is almost the same. I thought the last two episodes were a bit cheesy with Riley/Will and Kala/Wolfgang being already in love (eventho I get that they have a special strong connection) but it was a bit too cheesy for me haha I love the humor, the action scenes ugh, everything haha I will be all over tumblr to reblog some stuff :) Plus I am glad that we didn't get a mean cliffhanger but actually got a nice ending even if it was a bit abrupt :)
omg yes I just finished and I have so many questions as well. it was in a way an abrupt but satisfying ending but there are so many questions to answer for Season 2 which makes me excited even tho it will probably take a long time until we get Season 2 if we get it :)
ReplyDeleteI do agree but tbh I am not sure who I would have scratched from the 8, it brings the right amount of different gender, sexuality, personalities, families, religion, etc. but that's just me :)
ReplyDelete"Will Will will..." haha love it :D
ReplyDeleteYh you're right, I thought I edited that yesterday lol, my bad. I thought Will/Riley and Kala/Wolfgang being in love so fast was weird at first too but it just seemed that way since I watched the whole thing in a day and they have the connection, they already know more about each other than anyone else. That's how I explained it to myself anyway. I loved that cliffhanger, it felt like a nice end to the season but at the same time left many questions to be answered. I hope it gets a renewal!
ReplyDeleteI just end and omg I want now S2 and I love Nito he's my favorite and hilarious and I love when they all working togeder
ReplyDeleteyeah I kinda just accepted it because I shipped it from the start haha I am always very picky with couples but I loved all of them Will/Riley, Kala/Wolfgang, Lito/Hernando and towards the end I got to really like Nomi/Amanita. :) and yes so many questions unanswered and I really hope for Season 2 but that won't be until 2016 probably...:/ but I am glad I watched this show, it is really amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI fell asleep almost at the end of the first episode (sure, it was late), but I just finished episode 3 and it got more interesting. Starting episode 4...now.
ReplyDeleteFair point, though for some, Lito for example, seems like i've seen his story a thousand times by now. Include him if they want though, but they did not need to be so generic about it. Though it's his story not his sexuality I have issue with. But I found some like the Noami thing not explored much in a syfy setting good though.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was going to be like the second coming of Heroes, but it is way more emotional and slow-burning. I just finished episode 4 and I feel like my heart has been ripped out and put back in again! Can't wait to see where it goes from here.
ReplyDeleteIt's really slow they are building the conections and whatever crazyness is what they are feeling. Looking since ep one to ep 6 where i am right now. It has been a week in the series. Each episode is almost a day and we see how each character lives and not exactly what really is going on except a few things or two.
ReplyDeleteI just finish the season too and a lot of what people apparently had a problem with the show I didn't yes it's slow but to me it's worth it at the end I do hope for a S2 atleast to tie up loose end and kill that whisper guy
ReplyDeleteEpisode 6: That scene man, that scene was everything.
ReplyDeleteEpisode 7: Finally we see more of the bad guys (a little spoilers here) The Dr. visited teh countries where each of the senesates are located so The Whispers? already know who si who and were just waiting for the conection to start? cause why didnt they go after the sensates before?.
And are Jons, Angelica, Niles, The two tat died and the bad guy the previous sensates?.
What a brilliant series and what a great episode num 4 is so ccol
ReplyDeleteomg yes! Can't believe I forgot that one.
ReplyDeletesaw 2 eps and i think a bit slow pacy for my taste.but a cool concept. kudos to the ppl behind background music.
ReplyDeleteI'll give this a chance starting tomorrow or Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI've watched the whole series now and once you have all the pieces to this puzzle it makes sense. I read that the series was created to be less episodic and more long ass movie. A mass majority of movies have slow starts as they explain the premise, then they have the middle part which starts to ramp up the big bad and coming action/drama, and finally they move into the climax which gives you the majority of your action and story resolution. This format could only work on Netflix where it can be binge watched because to try and watch these episodes a week apart would have been detrimental to the series.
ReplyDeletePersonally I love how inclusive the series was. The show is not white washed and is not blind to sexuality like a lot of series on TV. We live in such a diverse age and I'm glad to see Netflix push for that inclusiveness in their shows. I ended up really liking Amanita and Nomi because it's not a relationship we usually get to see on TV. I like it when shows break new ground and do so with open minds and hearts. Will became a fast favorite as well, and it helps that I was a fan of Brian's from his Stargate: Universe days. I feel like Will and Nomi were the driving forces behind a lot of this season as their stories seemed to progress the story the most.
I've seen some people here mention that they wish the cast was smaller, but I really don't know who they could cut. Especially as the season goes along they all have a part to play. The finale would not have worked without the resources each character brought to the action.
I was highly impresses by how seamlessly the show managed to handle the tricky format of the sensates being able to communicate and see each other. I can only imagine how hard that was to film and edit, but it works really well.
Overall, for me anyway, this was a great series that I really enjoyed. The ending left me craving more and I hope that Netflix will commission a Season 2 because I want to spend more time with these characters. The season finale definitely left things open for more story to be told.
Well I've finished it. I liked it. I'll be watching a season 2 if there is one. Although I am fairly annoyed that there was no central plot until episode 9, and we still no answers to even the very basic questions such as "why is whispers after them?".
ReplyDeleteYou forgot a question! 7) Why is whispers even after them?
ReplyDeleteThis. It definitely felt like a 12 hour movie, I really wish people realised that instead of dropping it after one or two episodes. I too loved the diverstiy of the and loved Brian from SGU as well.
ReplyDeletePersonally I prefer shows with a larger cast, it keeps the show fresh and allows for more unique stories to be told and characters to be introduced. OUAT, Sense8 and Penny Dreadful are the shows that do it best imo. Agents of SHIELD is a show that can't handle a big cast imo.
I loved how seamless it was as well, it must have taken so long to film all that, especially so many filming locations but it was worth it, it looks fantastic.
I hope we do get a season 2, I know they already have a season 2 mapped out in detail and rough notes for a further 3 seasons after that, but they said it can go even longer if it remains successful enough, which I hope it does. It's definitely a new favorite show of mine.
We know why he's after them, he hunts sensates, what we didn't find out was why he hunts them. I didn't mind not having a main plot, I found the other stories entertaining, plus it was more like a long movie than a series, introduction, setting up the main plot, then diving right into the action.
ReplyDelete"We know why he's after them, he hunts sensates, what we didn't find out was why he hunts them". That's the same thing haha. We don't know why he's after them because we don't know why he hunts them. I get what you're saying about the other stories though. I found them entertaining enough to get to episode 9 without a main plot, but the ending just felt rushed.
ReplyDeleteI think, and this is just a personal theory, that since he too is a sensate he wants to use others like him to track down and destroy all of their kind. That way if they are all gone he'll be free of all this. They told us that there are clusters yet we never get any indication of his cluster coming into play. Did he eliminate them? There are a lot of questions that I predict we'll eventually get answers to in later seasons. They can't give us all the answers in one season.
ReplyDeleteI feel like they did a good job of giving us a big bad while still keeping him mysterious enough to drive the plot. This was meant to play more like a 12 hour movie, so that's why some people feel like it started slow. It's a very interesting new format.
Not really lol, but a small distinction. The only thing I found rushed was the romance at first but it makes sense with their connection and all.
ReplyDeleteI've been working over internet for quite some time now, by completing some basic jobs that only required desktop or laptop computer and access to internet and I couldn't be happier... After six months on this job and i earned so far total of $36,000... Basicly i profit $80/hour and work for 3-4 h on daily basis.Best part to whole this thing is that you can manage time when you work and for how long as you like and you get paid weekly.<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
ReplyDeleteim on ep 8 i will watch 9 tonight, but giving how he does things i thougth he was a sensate too and his cluster was Angelica, Jonas, Niles, the two that died, himself and im missing one person, right?.
ReplyDeleteI am on Episode 3 and i LOVE it.
ReplyDeletePlease can anyone give me one spoiler? Does any character from main 8 die? Please simple Yes/No, not names if there are any. Thanks
Nope
ReplyDeleteThanks :) I will be more calm by watching it now. After only 3 episodes i already really like all the characters/storylines.
ReplyDeleteI hope to get more Sun, because she is barely in it so far
Yh all the characters get more screen time once we've gotten to know each of them. I'm glad you're enjoying it :)
ReplyDeleteSpent the day watching the entire season. Loved it. Love the character work. I actually loved the pacing. It took me a bit to get used to the idea that these eight people weren't all automatically linked together. I kept wondering why certain characters never seemed to talk to others. I was happy that they did that though. Felt like a novelistic setup to the story and that worked for me. I even liked the scenes where two of the cluster talked to each other...helping a member of the cluster with a life issue rather than stepping in for an action sequence. I don't think it's a show that everyone will love but I and the friend hanging out with me for the weekend just loved it.
ReplyDeletereally? I loved it! I watched 12 episodes in a row and didn't want to skip anything or turn it off hah :D
ReplyDeleteYeah, I totally get what you mean. I loved this show but by episode 5 I was kinda thinking alright who is the bad guy here? However I liked the personal problems they are struggling with as well but the Whisper guy seemed like a subplot but I liked how it was more important in the later episodes. :) It was just like a 12 hour movie with introductions in the beginning and then it got going and I think that is how the producers explained it :)
ReplyDeleteId probably have to rewatch without the idea that it's a syfy show and judge differently. but that might just be me, the idea that it was more syfy probably colored my idea of it from the start.
ReplyDeleteFinally got around to watch the pilot and the jury is still out for me at this point as I know that the intro/setup/background will take a bit of time, this ep looked great, had interesting-ish characters, but moved a bit on the slow side for me, but seeing as how some of the reactions were that after a few eps that the backgrounds are all set and the story picks up considerably, I will definitely keep sampling and hope I find that point.
ReplyDeletei don't think jonas was in whisper's cluster since in ep 1, only angelica saw him. I guess season 2 will have to address why is a sensate killing other sensates
ReplyDeletei think it was what she was taking that allowed ehr to only comunicate with Jonas? Didnt Niles said something about ehr using drugs to keep him away from her?
ReplyDeleteI loved it!
ReplyDeleteIt has it's faults, but mainly it has an amazing cast and stories.
The biggest problem was the promoting, every promo I saw before watching the show totally depicted the show wrong, if it weren't for that I would have probably enjoyed the first episodes more.
- What also could have helped if the introduction of all the characters didn't happen in episode 1, but half in 1 and the other half in ep 2.
What an incredible experience. I can't remember the last time I loved eight characters so much. I get why people are confused by the answered questions of the main plot, but these lovely, beautiful characters and their subplots took my breath away. There were scenes that caused my whole body to tinge. I am awe struck.
ReplyDeleteWow. Netflix is seriously kicking ass recently.
ReplyDeleteIt really shouldn't be divided into episodes at all. It's a 12 hour movie with a slow start setting up the various pieces for a very emotional ride. This literally wouldn't have lived past 2 episodes in any medium other than Netflix. So, don't give up if you find the first few episodes tedious.
ReplyDeletei completely was amazed by it.
ReplyDeleteI loved the show so much! i liked how the stories for every main character played out, and how they started getting to know each other.
SPOILER ALERT
there wasn't much of a cliffhanger, but still i'm gonna be impatiently waiting for a season 2.
The Wachowskis did an amazing job. the acting is really good, and i did not feel the show slow
SPOILERS AHEAD *** This show reminds me a little bit of 12 Monkeys, in the way that mystery, comedy, romance and drama are balanced.
ReplyDeleteWhen there's too much mystery (Under the Dome), it's just confusing and the Whole plot is a mess. When there's too much comedy, it's frustrating and inapropriate to the drama that's going on. When there is too much romance (most CW shows that were cancelled after 1 season), then some out-of-the-blue attraction completely overrides the plot and throws any character development out the window. When there is too much drama, then it's not entertaining so much as sickening to watch all that suffering.
In Sense8, any romance would PRODUCE major development in the characters. Wolfgang forcing Kala to be honest with herself about what she wants from life, Kala helping him see Beyond the life he knows, Will letting Riley know that she doesn't have to be alone.... And it's not just romance either. Genuine friendship too. Bonds are formed between the characters.
I thought having the same scene constantly switching from one locale to another would be confusing and irritating, but it was really well done and gave deeper meaning to every moment. You can actually FEEL that the connection these people have spans the world.
Episode 5: Lito being emotionl was actually from Sun getting her period.
ReplyDeleteah! "What I don't know, I haven't experienced" - me.
ReplyDeleteSpoilers ahead. To hell my feelings. I teared up with those final moments when Riley had to shot will with the drugs. It reminded me to what Nomi said in ep 8 about a beautiful scene with so many fucked up thigs happening around them.
ReplyDeleteI know it's the beggining of summer season but for me there are already no new shows that will be able to top this one.
The slow build of the season let to this great final episodes and we get some answers as get as questions.
We learned that Ellison is a Senate but which Cluster was him on? No idea.
People from diferent clusters need only one look to another senate to "conect".
Questions for S2(i hope they renew this and fast)
Why Ellison being a Senate himself is agains their own people? or it's somekind of deal he did so gets inmunity?
How will everyone get out of the mess their lives has become. Sun in prison, Capheus making lots enemies, Wolfgang and his family and more important.
Will they kill Ellison to get ride of the thread and save Will cause he cant be a zombie in all next season, that's for sure.
I loved it!!! as the episodes went on it go better and better. For once I was watching something and not playing on my phone while it was on. I really enjoyed it and hope it gets a second season
ReplyDeleteFirst 6 episodes were sloe burn but things heated up from episode 7.The episodes from 7 to 12 were fantastic.Excellent production values.Loved all the eight sensates-Looking forward to 2nd season.
ReplyDeleteNetflix delivered AGAIN!
Yea, the Long movie feel is what i liked about this too. And I too like large cast, and this one made sense to have 8 members in a Cluster I'm sure the creaters had the same mind to it as I first thought, 8 being a symbol for infinite and that means limitless possibilities.
ReplyDeleteI also Agree on the AofSHIELD comment on how a big cast isn't working in it. One of the main reason is they don't even try and to focus on the other groups of characters be it bad guys or rouges.
But never mind that. This is about Sense8. I could watch on for a good 3-5 strong seasons.
One Google search of the show and clicking the first 2 links IMDB and Wikipedia would of given you the info that this series was going to deal with all the issues you so hate (your note was noted). And from that could gone ah nope ain't watching that, which is perfectly fine.
ReplyDeleteFor me its "based on a True story" "Recent History" & spin off without good linkage. When I see those I just choose not to watch.
And as you say if the message was received long ago then to you at least the should should of been just normal way of life as it should of been the norm for you.
I'm halfway through the first episode and I'm bored to tears. Someone tell me it picks up soon...
ReplyDeleteI just freaking loved this series......when season 2 is coming??????
ReplyDeleteIf you want action from start, you won't get it in this series, this is love/hate series......if you are not hooked on episode 1 to 3 you will never be......it picks up with action after episode 8 I think!
ReplyDeleteIt's not the lack of action... Everything feels slow. And the character introductions have been very underwhelming. I'm not connecting with pretty much anything so far.
ReplyDeleteLol, there were some scenes I just fast forwarded specially Nomi and Amuneta, just because I dont hit that way, but to everyone its own, some people like that, but other than that I enjoyed this show so much.
ReplyDeleteJust hope people actually streaming this show through Netflix and not downloading illegal it......
ReplyDeleteI'm only three episodes in but I feel the same way. To me it feels like more style than substance... Or maybe just too stylized for my liking even if there is substance in the second half of the series. The style keeps me at arm's length...
ReplyDeleteWhatever it is I have yet to connect to any of the characters or the plot. Nothing has pulled me in thus far.
I've done my research long ago and patiently waited for the premiere. I knew it would deal with these issues, but I didn't expect they would be the plot, for the most part.
ReplyDeleteAnd no, it shouldn't be accepted as normal. I don't need gay pride shoved in my face with wet dildos getting thrown around. I want to watch A STORY, not 12-hour life lessons about dignity and pride, which I have.
A character-driven show is Breaking Bad, Battlestar Galactica, Penny Dreadful, etc. This is show driven by and revolving only around the issues of diversity, which overtake any sensible plot that could've been.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind overly stylized as long as it's not in the expense of substance (mainly my issue with Baz Luhrmann).
ReplyDeleteRight now though, from my POV, there's not much style and there's not much substance either... I'm just bored...
Just finished the pilot and it was okay. Seems interesting enough to continue watching.
ReplyDeleteMost of the characters are tropes here that don't hold a candle to any of those shows.
ReplyDeleteJust finished watching this. Gave it a 4 stars on Netflix, and a Great here. There were some ups and downs here and there, but overall, I really liked it, the characters, their relationships, the fact that everything was shot on location (Iceland is beautiful, made me want to go there someday).
ReplyDeleteI'll be watching season 2 most definitely. By the way, has it been confirmed that there's going to be a 2nd season? Or is everyone just assuming?
It has some VERY slow moments, but each episode delves into the past of one of the characters, and you get to know them better, plus there are some awesome moments mixed in there. It takes some patience to watch this.
ReplyDeleteWell this show is hate or love, so if you didnt connect in episodes 1 to 3 you will never do......
ReplyDeleteJust finished and I loved every second of it! I definitely connected to some characters more than others but there isn't one of them I didn't love watching.
ReplyDeleteI think it pushed a lot of boundaries as to what can be shown in a tv series but it seemed more about the freedom of story telling rather than "how many shocking things can we fit in this episode".
---------SPOILERS--------
One thing I was wondering about the ending though, what if Will could forget ever seeing Ellison's face? Would that sever the connection? When he went back to the ambulance I was expecting Kala to take over and create some cocktail of drugs that would have a sort of Rohypnol effect.
the first half was reallllllllly slow but when the second half started it became AMAAAAZING, my favorite was episode 12, it was executed brilliantly and how the whole 8 helped was amazing
ReplyDeletep.s Riley & will forevaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa <3 <3 <3
Just finished the whole series, Sense8 is beautiful, integral, individual and elegant. It almost feels like a TV Movie, and although, sometimes, the scenes may seem a little 'far-fetched', the Wachowski's have made up for that by creating something that is bold, brutal and flawlessly emotional.
ReplyDeleteThe characters are also a beauty within the show, yes, the acting may be 'iffy' at times, but the majority of the actors play their characters with dignity. I am so glad that the Wachowski's decided that, against the natural scheme of choosing characters of the ethnic majority and those who are already famous, Sense8 has a diverse range of ethnicities, cultures, sex's and genders - making it so refreshing and alive, rather than tedious and limitless. Tuppence Middleton, Jamie Clayton and Freema Agyeman stood out for me most, the latter, once again showing us her ever-growing skills. The only character plot that became a little messy, was that of Lito's - which sometimes became tedious and over-emphasized, however, like I previously mentioned, the flaws are let up by the creative integrity of the show.
Sense8 requires you to have patience, imagination and a sense of adventure. Yes, it's slow, and the main plots are only really recognized in the later episodes, but this makes Sense8 far different from any other show - well, I say, why do we need to tell the audience everything, why can't we let them understand and work it out themselves - and this is what Sense8 does, flawlessly and with elegance and it's so wonderful to see.
I really think this show could break boundaries if given the chance of a second season, and I'm positively confident Netflix won't ignore it's joy within the audience (rather than the reviewer who has only seen the first episode...) and renew this refreshing and fruitful show.
I would disagree with the comments about you're 'never going to get into' this show if you don't like it after 3 episodes - you're more than likely to begin to like it more and more. It works of the audience's understanding and imagination, so let the story and characters take you, build up the personalities that you witness and the pay off will be massive.
ReplyDeleteI have watched 5 episodes and I am already in love with it. It's rare when I like every singe character on a show.
ReplyDeletewell after they actually explained a little about the cluster stuff i thought that the drug angelica was taking hid her from any sensate outside her own cluster, and Niles (the one who survived the lobotomy) was either in whisper's cluster or perhaps whisper could control him b/c of the lobotomy?
ReplyDeleteI suppose we will know by next week if it's been renewed, fingers crossed. for a show that takes 3 or 4 episodes to introduce itselfe 12 episodes seems like barely half a season
ReplyDeleteI love the show!! I don't usually like character driven shows, but this one is one of a kind.
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I almost didn't watch it. And the reason has name and surnames: Miguel Ángel Silvestre.
Although his character is mexican, the actor is from Spain like me, where he works a lot on TV. He got a huge success several years ago with a TV Show roughly translated "Without tits there is no paradise". His character was the "dark, tall and sexy" one... as all his characters since then. Every woman and several men wanted a piece of him in my country (and I guess that is still true, but the madness has slow down a lot). His "hotness" was one of the most popular subjects of conversation during months. It was really unbearable. Due to that, I hold a big anomisity against his characters. I couldn't see any piece of fiction he worked in.
So when I saw his name in the credits, it was a really big let down. But I told myself: "OK, he is only one. There is seven more".
Anybody can guess who is my favourite character of Sense8? Yes... Lito!! I couldn't believe myself... but that's life. Always with its surprises. I LOVE his story!! It's so much fun to watch his evolution. I need a second season to see the next step!! Although what I like most of him is that Lito is kind of a parody of the characters that Miguel usually gets in Spain.
The rest are gold, too. Will is the easy one: big heart, boy scout... It's impossible not to like him. Capheus is the soul of the show. All positivity... I envy that. Sun is the warrior... all honor, not time for fun. Wolfgang is the black sheep that wants to change his path but falls over and over again in the same mistakes. Kala is pure innocence... I would say even naive. I guess she will learn a couple of things thanks to the german. Nomi's story is the scariest one in the show. Her mother is the worst... So glad she has found someone like Neets to share her life. My least favourite character is Riley... I don't have anything against her, but I haven't connected with that character as much as the others.
Overall, this show is great. A bit slow, but worthy.
Absolutely think this is a great series. A little confusing at first, but if you bing a few episodes it all comes together. Love the whole concept of telepathy, it takes psychic abilities to whole new level!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your assessment of the characters, especially Riley. I think she will evolve into a less timid character as we finally saw her take charge in the final episode. I believe she is still needing to grasp the idea of the 8 being a unit that can only survive by acting as 1 when called upon.
ReplyDeleteHe needs to control them bc they r very powerful as u have seen. They can b used as a most formidable weapon. Think about it! Just throwing that out there.
ReplyDeleteLegitimate question:
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else not realize that Nomi is actually a transgender in real life? I think they revealed her character was transgender after a few episodes, but it wasn't till the 7th or 8th episode when I googled her and found out she is a real life tranny. lmao. I was mind blowned.
First 4 and last 4 eps were amazing bit slow in middle. Hope it gets a 2nd Season
ReplyDeleteActually I completely understand the argument and I agree with the notion. There is no reason to torture yourself by sitting through a show you can't connect with on the sole basis of hoping that at some point it gets better... and three episodes is a pretty good grace period to see if there's anything in this story for you.
ReplyDeleteI liked the show, but I wish it would be more like sci-fi theme. I found mexican guy and history kind of boring, that should be comic, but it isn't. I was hoping to see someting more related to the sensates. The 2 last episodes to me are the greatest ones.
ReplyDeleteI just tried episode 1 and it failed to keep my interest. Too slow paced and too many characters for me, but the acting was solid enough and entertaining. Just not a show for me.
ReplyDeleteFinished the series a few days ago. My final verdict is that it's a decent show, especially in this sparse section of the summer TV season.
ReplyDeleteSense8 is a glacially paced show. Maybe the most slowly paced show I've seen in a while. A few of the characters take a handful of episodes to become interesting as well. Those are the main negatives.
On the positive side, the stories are generally interesting enough to keep you interested in spite of Sense8's pace and from the midway point to the end of the season you really start pulling for the majority of the show's characters.
Don't expect action-based sci-fi here. There is sporadic action (and it's really great when it occurs) and the science fiction part is limited to the connection of the group and that's it.
Sense8 is an elaborate, character-based tone poem about empathy, unity, and bravery. It also maybe the most unabashedly pro-LBGT sci-fi drama you'll ever see.
My main takeaway is this: In a time where people are constantly bitching about remakes, re-imaginings, ripoffs, and unoriginality in general, Sense8 is something to shut those people up, at least for a little while. There's no current TV show like it at all. It's beautifully shot at different locales all around the world, the characters are interesting and the stories are as well for those who aren't commitment-phobic. Because this slow series does take commitment but it's worth it in the end.
I just finished the season yesterday, and being honest I didn't love it, but I think it's not so bad, personally I've got hooked by Wolfgang and Kala's story line more than anything, just because he's not the martyr that cries out for help in a corner, he solves his own matters without hesitating, while she's all sweetness and still felt attraction for a guy that's everything but that.
ReplyDeleteNow about the homosexuality, well honestly I don't see it as something normal or natural, and I'm not really sure if the show is trying to to tell us that, what I see here is that they showing us how their world is, how unfair can people treat them and how their humans rights are not respected, maybe not so much in Lito's case, but in Nomi's. And I think that's good, I mean, I personally believe that as long as people don't hurt anyone they have the right to do whatever they want. Although the scenes were unnecessarily explicit for me too, especially the wet dildo's one, it was just disgusting, I mean we never saw Wolfgang taking off his used condom right??, so why do it with the gay couples??, that was just morbidness.
And finally the heroes the martyrs must be the Americans, who saved the day?? Will, and who are the ones that have never made anything wrong but still have to deal with mistreatment?? Will and Nomy, so the stereotypes are still there, no matter if they're showing some kind of justification, Lito's career depends of his macho persona because he's Mexican, Wolfman is a coldblooded killer because after all he's German, Sun is a stupid martyr who pays for her brother's crimes because she's Korean, I don't know about the other 2 guys because I'm not sure how hard is in their countries to break the costumes and all that crap but the rest are un Cliche included the girl from Iceland, yeah people say life is peaceful over there so they all are like that, bullshit!!.
So in summary, they show is not actually good in my opinion, but it has potential, if they work on some details.
Best show in years!
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, they don't all speak english. I noticed that Lito speaks Spanish the whole time, the show is set up so us viewers understand them as if we were sensates too. But is given that they are all speaking their respective languages. When Lito speaks English, it is obvious that it's translated English, he is actually speaking spanish in the story. According to some people I chatted with about it, the same is true for the Korean and German speaking. I haven't met anyone that can verify the swahili or hindi, but they are probably did the same. The expressions, the way the sentences are put together, they are in the respective languages, we just get a translated version of them because we are in it the same way the are... which I think it's genius!
ReplyDeleteyeah I figured that out, too haha it is really clever :)
