SEASON 6 PREMIERE PREVIEW
Rizzoli & Isles, I must admit, returns in spectacular fashion with the season six premiere. I always love it when the show focuses on the main characters rather than case-of-the-week, and the season six premiere effortlessly flows the two together. What made this episode exciting was the fact that the case-of-the-week heavily involved Frankie. Jane has to save her brother after he did something bad. Very bad. It even makes Jane question what he did. And he did do it, by the way. It's just warped in a way that makes him look very bad. Jane is on the case though and she goes through quite a journey to try and help her brother. Angela isn't given a very big part in this episode though as her storyline mainly involves getting an ugly chair for free. Never mind, her presence is still necessary to keep the Rizzoli family together in a very trying time.
Maura starts training a new assistant medical examiner called Kent Drake. He's weird guys, even Jane doesn't like him and she is a great judge of character. I'm sure the two will get on famously if he sticks around. Anyway, Maura has some great scenes in this episode, including a comical scene with the guy doing an autopsy as she tries to see what's going on. The Maura and Frankie interactions are also interesting in this episode too as it feels like there may be more sparks there that have been dormant for a little while. Susie Chang is in this episode too and I really like her, she's extremely cute. Also, Nina Holiday - who was introduced last year following the death of Lee Thompson Young and his character - had a great role in this premiere and was super helpful to the team. I didn't feel like she had the chance to break out in season four and while I liked her, I didn't care too much about her. Season six seems to be like a whole new start for her because she's comfortable in her job, her interactions with the others are smooth and she's really becoming her own character. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her.
I liked the format of the episode too. It's a technique done before, when something happens in the opening and then the episode goes back to one day before. The build-up was great and it was something exciting to build towards. Fortunately we don't have to wait the entire episode to go back to the first scene. It actually only takes about 12-13 minutes, then the rest of the episode deals with the aftermath. Overall it was a very good premiere and it has definitely started season six the right way. Just one question - did Maura only start working there 5 years ago? So she was brand new to the team when the show started? Maura said that's how long she's been working there but that can't be right, right? A lot to look forward to with the return of Rizzoli & Isles so I really hope you guys enjoy the premiere too.
Now enjoy some dialogue teasers:
- "Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" "... if you have to ask."
- "Well he doesn't have any taste, he'll probably love it."
- "Is she always like that?" "Yes, in the very best way possible."
- "Come on Jane, like you don't have any secrets."
- "Seems like you need to keep an open mind yourself detective."
- "They're gonna hang him out to dry."
- "I could go to jail."
- "It's very satisfying using science to solve a mystery."
- "I didn't mean for anyone to die."
- "Good guys always feel bad when something awful happens."
Got any questions about the season six premiere of Rizzoli and Isles? What are you looking forward to the most? Let me know in the comments and be sure to watch the episode when it airs on June 16th on TNT!
Rizzoli & Isles returns June 16th on TNT, be sure to check it out! Hope you guys enjoy it. Any questions? Feel free to ask and I may just answer ;)
ReplyDeleteReally anxious for this new season.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely be watching :)
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone!
ReplyDeleteWoohoo, I hope you enjoy it :D It's a great premiere!
ReplyDeleteMaura and frankie so gross idea
ReplyDeleteAny chance Angela and the ugly chair elope? I'm getting really tired of her cougar persona.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit I wasn't there from the start. Start watching last season and during the last three weeks I've been catching up with Seasons 1-4. I've now caught up with the series and I'm ready for Season 6 :)
ReplyDeleteI have to agree. They have no romantic chemistry what so ever. They are enter-twined only because of Jane, becoming friends/sibling-ish over time. Makes me nauseous just to think about them in any type of romantic anything. Still not over that awkward kiss.
ReplyDeleteI hope catch up before the premiere, love this show so much!
ReplyDeleteLMAO ! I am not convinced by that Angela/ugly chair storyline. It could be funny, or just so uninteresting it's not even funny.
ReplyDeleteI think mama Rizzoli is a character that would work better as a recurrent character than a regular. Or at really small doses, in some of the episodes.
Best to not have a storyline for one episode than having that kind of pointless storyline (to be fair I haven't seen the episode so it might not be that bad but I doubt it).
wow. Just one thing: Maura don't start to work there 5 years ago, because she met Jane when Jane was undercover like a whore for antidrug...so, long long time ago...and in the ep 1x1 they know each other and they are friends (ps: forgive my bad english)
ReplyDeleteHaha now that would be a big spoiler I couldn't share ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's an alright storyline to be fair, and it leads to a sweet moment at the end of the episode. But I totally agree with your points on Angela.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure of how I feel on them to be honest, they haven't convinced me there's something genuine between them. It feels a little forced.
ReplyDeleteThe moment I'm thinking of in this episode that hints at potential rekindling was very awkward actually. I have to agree on your points. They're just not very compatable.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo at least you have now caught up. I absolutely love the early days of Rizzoli and Isles. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the show a great deal, but I was pretty obsessed back in the day :P
ReplyDeleteI hope you catch up too! :D
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I thought but Maura said in the episode that she started working there 5 years ago and I was like "hang on that can't be right" so thought I'd double check. Thanks for assuring me I'm not crazy :P And your english is totally fine!
ReplyDeleteLove the character Nina and her and Frankie chemistry
ReplyDeleteI've really grown to like her. She shines in this premiere and I hope she gets more opportunities to break out this season.
ReplyDeleteAt the bottom of the article you say that it's premiering on Lifetime.
ReplyDeleteOh my, thanks for spotting that! Fixed :)
ReplyDeleteI might be the odd one out but I like maura and frankie because it always seems to happen that a person ends up falling for their best friend's sibling.
ReplyDeleteI like the preview ... a lot but not too much just enough to be hooked and be sure to watch ... Thank you ;-)
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks very much for reading :D Glad the preview did its job ;)
ReplyDeleteI just want more Maura and Jane scenes... Those are the best ones. Also, i'm kind of excited for the new guy, lets see where that goes. I'm not on board of the Maura/Frankie romance, I loke them more as friends, kind of siblings. And yeah, I agree with the ones that said that Angela would work better as a recurring character.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the timeline of the show. One month real time doesn't necessarily equal one month show time.
ReplyDeleteWhy kill off suzzi chang. She was doing such a great job..
