Sources have provided to SpoilerTV information on 3 roles currently being cast for the 3rd season of Reign. These characters are as follows:
Amy Dudley
Married to Robert Dudley, Amy is concerned over her marriage. Robert spends much of his time with Elizabeth and rumors suggest that their friendship is more then just that. Despite these rumors, Amy fights to keep her marriage alive, even against impossible odds.
Robert Dudley
Married to Amy Dudley and the favorite of Elizabeth. Robert has known Elizabeth since they were children and both hide secrets known only to them. Despite wanting to move on from his past with Elizabeth, she uses her power to keep him close.
Charles IX Of France
Note: We're told that the role is being recast to give the character a much more major presence. The character originally appeared during Season 1 but did not appear during Season 2.
Charles is the Dauphin of France (next in line to the throne). Described as mischievous and a party-boy, he has recently returned from Spain to be taught by Francis. Francis' time is running out however and Charles is not interested in partaking in his lessons.
So excited to see them build up around Elizabeth's court,. They can right away cast Dyson from Lost girl to take the role of Dudley.

ReplyDeleteIF it gets a new season? Their horrible writing drove away most of their viewers last season. The only reason why the show was renewed was because it got the renewal BEFORE the ratings drop.

ReplyDeleteIt got one .3 in the fall and it was a .35 so it was almost a .4. The episode that aired before it got renewed was a .5 and the shows highest ratings in 17 episodes.

ReplyDeleteAnd they should tell their characters story with the same old characters until cancellation? Every show needs to add characters to develop their characters and their arcs. It is logical to add characters for Elizabeth to interact with.
ReplyDeleteI actually think all of these characters sound very interesting and sound like stuff I would like to show to explore more. I particularly like them casting a grown up Charles.
ReplyDeleteThe show keeps adding character after character and hasn't lost anybody. Series regulars were sidelined last season for new character. The writers don't have enough viewers to neglect existing characters to focus on the new ones especially when only two seasons have aired. It's not like anyone is bored of the current characters.
ReplyDeleteThey won't dare to really change anything till the season finale. They are 9 months (more or less) away from Francis dying so they will stretch it.

And is Conde still a regular? I hoped he would be max a guest star, his story was told, nothing there anymore.
I haven't heard anything about Conde not being a regular, which means he probably will still be one, no? Also, I thought the finale may have been it for Lady Kenna but I also haven't heard of any downgrades so apparently not.

ReplyDeleteStefan's younger version could be a solid choice for the role of Charles. He is blonish and could fit the part age wise.
Someone on twitter said there's also two more characters they're casting so that's why I'm annoyed. New characters are fine, but we saw what happened last season. They took up all the screentime. I actually like Narcisse and Claude, but they need to reduce the cast if they're gonna keep doing this.

It's weird that people depend on syndication from a network that has never shown good business sense in the first place. If they feel like they need to, I have no doubt they'll cancel it, the promise of syndication or not.

ReplyDeleteNo, they said they're casting two more and that is five in total so far. That's why I'm kind of peeved. I preferred when they would cast people for arcs back in season 1 and not as series regulars. I would not be surprised if they made all these people series regulars because that's what they did last season. I actually thought the Conde storyline was going to be done with by the end of 2A, but it didn't even start until 2B.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot. Doubt they go series regulars with all of them, don't think the budget will cover that especially with Rachel joining as well. We'll have to wait and see. Can't wait for some promo material to surface. Hoping for some great Mary-Elizabeth pics.
ReplyDeleteMary was 16 at the start of the show while Charles was 9 (or 7 according to one of the wiki's but I'm leaning more towards 9).
ReplyDeleteI believe 2~ years have passed due to winter having come and gone twice. So Mary must be about 18 and Charles 11? Unless theirs a time jump.
Charles won't make an attempt on Mary, not his purpose. He should be around10 historically looking. So I assume he'll be around 14 so he could express teenage rebellion and be appropriate for the arc with Francis.

ReplyDeleteAnd yes Lady Kenna will probably find a way back you are right. I am not sure which way is best though. I mean, I like the character but at some point she became absolutely ridiculous when she could only care about boys and stuff despite all the life and death stuff going on around her.
He is around 10-11. Young Stefan appears in 6X16 I believe. He played a 10 year old Stefan.
ReplyDeleteCharles historically should be around 10 but they probably go with someone around 14. They added Claude 3-4 years so they most likely do that with Charles as well.
Conde should be in prison, that is at least what happened in real life. After going after Francis he was imprisoned and released after Francis died. That is why I think he shouldn't have any part in the real story.
ReplyDeleteKenna was a bit all over the place last season. I liked the start of her story and the moment she and Bash decided to part but her searching for a hubby while hell was raising around her. Than again I liked her protecting Bash over that generale (even though she had great chemistry with him), but disliked her when she wanted to fool Bash with the baby. Lets see what they plan to do with her in S03.
That explains why I don't remember him, just around the mark ;)
ReplyDeleteOk, thanks. 14 is still pretty young though. That probably limits what they will do with him in terms of love life and such. Which is probably a good thing actually. I just hope Season 3 makes me forget about the second part of Season 2. It was such a great show at one point.
Reign has a couple of things going for it. Syndication, being a CBS show and solid numbers which can't go lower at least I hope they won't.
ReplyDeleteLook at HoD it hit multiple 0,3s and 0,2s in S03 and still recovered decently for S03, Reign is a show you can just start watching again without catching up.
So I think it's chances at this point are 70-30 towards renewing.
The baby storyline was ridiculous and came out of nowhere. It had no build up at all and served no purpose other than character assassination of Lady Kenna, especially if they are indeed going to bring her back as if it was nothing.
ReplyDeleteI think the problem was that the writers had no idea how to write Lady Kenna and Bash together in a happy relationship. Their characters became stale, boring and background for the first half of the season. Which was a real shame, especially in Bash's case imo. So they probably figured the only way they were going to be able to have them back to interesting was to break them up. Which is stupid, imo.
I wonder if Charles will be old enough to go after one of Mary's Ladies in Wailing. ( Lola, Greer, Kenna, or Aylee )

I mean Charles will be quite spoiled but I hope he will express it in different ways, not pining over girls Even though I want Francis dead, to speed up Mary's story, it will be nice see him struggle with Charles and his wishes to teach him something before his death.
I actually think they'll kinda follow history with Charles and have him with Elisabeth of Austria. The arrangement/courting between them started before Francis died.
ReplyDeleteElisabeth was meant to be a sheltered yet intelligent and gorgeous woman (in essence the 'nerd'). While Charles is the party-boy (so the 'Jock'). It seems like the kind of thing a teen show would do.
Elisabeth will probably get a nickname to make it easier to tell her apart from Elizabeth (perhaps Lis/Liz or Elisa?).
Young Stefan was played by Sawyer Bell.
ReplyDeleteThey knew to keep them happy for around 6 eps and there it ended. Their pairing was so interesting and beautiful as they found each other by the end of S01. Than it all become really messy.
ReplyDeleteBash is the most neglected character this season, but still had some nice moments. I hope he can bounce back in S03, especially with Crazy Pagan Pants and her ulterior motives. I hope for a nice restart and some good character driven stories.
Looking at him now, I think he is younger or at least looks younger than what they are looking for.

ReplyDeleteThe third season will be amazing I'm sure. These two have to be put to good use, the only thing that bothers me is that Reign has many characters. I hope Conde did not appear and if appear well away from Mary and Francis have to die, but if he dies Mary will not go away from France? I expect this season to be a good ratings.
ReplyDeleteReally?Nikita,HoD both got 0.2-0.3s in s3 yet were renewd for fourth final seasons for wrap up & syndication purposes.Mist Cw are or we're syndicated-Nikita,a gossip zgirl, 90210,SPN,SmV,OTH,and more.Thyre duo g the same thing with Batzb -and will do the same with Reign -get it to 70 ish episodes,give it a proper ending.The only show Czw has ever cancelled halfway or more to syndication without getting to minimum 70ish episodes or to 88 is VM cause if the writers strike,creative differences between showrunner & network ect& being two seasons away,CW seems to have shown great support for Reign-renewing it early-Evfn s2 when it's ratings aren't good-,putting it on Fri with a full season for s3 instead if shirt season in summer like BatB,keeping behind VD in s2 despite underperforming and viewers expecting it to move,promoting it more than other underperforming sophomore shoes like BatB,hoD,The 100,.Pedowitz said he braves creatively in Reign & elects a boost creatively from the 3Queens arc.

ReplyDeleteYeah I agree that Bash was the most neglected character of the season and it was a real shame because he was my favorite character in Season 1. It got better in the second half (it was the only thing that got better really), so I am indeed hopeful it improves even more next year.

The difference being is that all of those shows had one hell of a dedicated fanbase really pushing for it. Except for maybe Gossip Girl, people were pushing for that to finally end.
ReplyDeleteThe shows you listed had low ratings, but VERY vocal fans. Reign doesn't have that. I'm a part of that fanbase, by the end of the second season a lot of them were actually begging for the show to be put out of its misery before its showrunner could screw it up even more.
In a poll on this very website, Reign almost beat The Vampire Diaries. The question in the poll? Which show is in desperate need of a new showrunner. Just process that, because people have been whining constantly about Julie Plec for half a decade now, and Reign almost beat it in that poll after just two seasons.
Almost everyone in the fandom agrees that the show is worse because of Laurie. They HATED how badly she handled the rape plot turned into a love triangle, and that was Laurie's idea. The reason why she did the rape plot? By her own words, to punish Francis for his transgressions.
And unlike those other shows you mentioned, the writers and especially the producer barely even acknowledge the viewers. They were completely silent for 90% of season two and pretty much ignored every single line of criticism no matter how valid.
Almost every person I've spoken to about the show has told me they're surprised I'm still watching after how bad it became.
So yes you're right, it could get a season 4, but most of the viewers didn't even want a season 3. They can give it as many seasons as they want, they alienated their fanbase in the worst way possible and they're still sticking to their "integrity" by pretending that nothing is wrong.
That retcon at the end of season 2 just made things a lot worse. They can go ahead and give it a season 4, but I seriously doubt it will be because anyone actually wants to watch it.

Sure, the fanbase doesn't determine whether or not a show gets renewed, but these are REAL people writing this show. The only thing a writer likes more than writing is appreciation for their work.
ReplyDeleteThere's a human factor in this that you're completely ignoring. They could renew this show for ten seasons if they wanted to, but the quality of the show itself would not be good. Did you know that Reign got new writers at the end of the second season? Do you think they got those new writers because the show was doing oh so great with the viewers?
When a show is renewed mostly for money reasons and not because the show is any good, that's a huge problem. Do you expect the writers to put their all into a show that is on the shitlist of a large chunk of their viewers? Do you expect those writers to stick around when they could be writing stuff for other shows that people actually enjoy?
Last season, they made almost all of the viewers hate Mary, and this season they're very likely going to kill off Francis, who is one of the few liked characters still on this show. They could have made this transition a lot easier by now rushing his forgiveness of Mary in the season finale and giving them actual time to fall in love again, but they haven't done that.
At this point the fanbase has no reason to watch season 3, and with the upcoming death of Francis, they'll have even less reason to watch season 4.
It Dosent matter if a shows good or bad,quality is subjective ?Look at SPN-half the fanbaes was begging for s10 or 11 be the end because to them it's not a good show anymore yet ispts around and will be for more.Shows are alway renewed for money reasons-shows aren't free to make and.Yes I recently heard the got new writers-happens all the time on shows-writers/directors don't always for every episodes,every season of a show.As Laurei said "Reign is about Mary,not sokey Frsncis,not Msry & Fracis.It can be about any number of reigns"
ReplyDeleteBatB fanbaes had no reason to watch s3 yet they are,HoD fans had no reason to watch s4 yet the did& ratings rose a little.BatB weren't from 0.5-0.6 for s1 finale to 0.3,below a million viewers for s2 premier yet it got more seasons in spite if ticking off/loosing much of its fanbaes in s2.BatB had Evfn slightly lower s2 ratings than Reign.I think fans are excited about Farsy reuniting,who knows if actually kill Francis off before the series finale?& the 3 Queens and Cobde being gone-they might rerun.

ReplyDeleteIf Francis dies in this upcoming season, say goodbye to Frary and Francis fans/supporters. Ratings are already VERY VERY LOW....I don't think CW/Reign can afford to lose Frary/Francis fans. The more marketable and better option would be to keep Francis alive for the whole duration of the show. I don't see Reign going past season 4 anyway. Killing off a hugely popular main character will only further lower the ratings....and at this point, the ratings cannot afford to get even lower....Ratings went down last season thanks to Mary/Code mess and more stupid triangles....Re-building and fixing Frary AND Kennash would be more profitable for the show now....to try to get the ratings back up.

ReplyDeleteYou have to admit that just as Juliet said, Frary/Francis have a huge fanbase. It's Laurie and the other writer's fault for messing up the characters and pairings from last season in the first place, so they owe us to improve and make things a lot better next season. Including this show is not really historically accurate as Diane and Christian were killed off before Francis were where in real life, they died before him. Diane died of an illness and Mary's uncle died from bleeding to death after being attacked by the assassian, Jean de Poltrot de Méré.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Frary but I don't see that happening with Kennash, I've lost all hope for that pairing. After what Kenna did, it makes me wonder if she ever really loved Bash. To stoop so low by seducing him to make him think it was his baby and not being honest with him, I don't blame Bash for being pissed off and being done with her because I never thought Kenna would do something like that.

ReplyDeleteI really don't think Kenna will be back. They essentially wrote her off. They're not gonna create brand new sets and characters for her to interact with when they could have just kept her at the castle. Plus, I think the actress wanted off the show. She wasn't happy with the rape storyline at all.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't aware that there were issues with the actress portraying Lady Kenna. By the way, I think that if she were to return, she would return to the castle, not be on a whole different environment. Then again, they did have Greer on her own for most of the second half.

Hell, Conde was like 15 years older than Francis and Mary and was married with children. But nope, they aged him down just to put Mary with him. It's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteShe's tweeted and deleted things about it and favorited fans tweets regarding the storyline. I wouldn't be surprised at all if she asked to leave. The actresses were all crying when they filmed their last scene together which makes me think she really left as well. And I agree that they did that with Greer and could do it with her, but they're building the entire English court now so I can't see them doing that and new sets just for Kenna. I would think she'd just return to the castle, but why did they completely ruin her if that's the case? I don't know, I'll guess we see.

Toby is an incredibly talented actor and deserves to be on the show for as long as it lasts (4 seasons at most if fans are lucky). The Frary/Francis fanbases are huge. Those fans will not stick around to watch Mary get with more men. The show is already at the lowest with the ratings. I can only imagine how much lower ratings will go down if you kill off the main male lead while the show is still going on....fans won't tune in for more...Many already tuned out thanks to Mary/Conde....and all the triangles/husband switching....
