POLL : What did you think of The Whispers - Meltdown?

  1. THIS EPISODE WAS INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell happened to that smoke?!!!! I guess that theory about Bennigan being commanded by Drill's opposition is debunked now. Minx is a VERY dangerous girl, she CUT herself to help Drill. That girl needs to be isolated in place with no electricity whatsoever.

    ReplyDelete
  2. - This was an excellent episode. The amount of playing off of everybody's needs and wants was great. Minx played off of her mother's insecurities regarding her father. Drill played off of Henry's need for his father. And a lot was tied to the agent's not wanting to kill Claire's son.
    - Speaking of: the DOD agent, FBI agents, and the AEC agent's lack of following protocol was what allowed all of this to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Minx was being creepy as **** this episode.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I have never been so stressed while watching TV. I think Wes still has some residual feelings for Claire 😏

    ReplyDelete
  5. She's and evil little girl

    ReplyDelete
  6. Got that right! i knew she was different than the other kids but to go this far proves that Drill chose his perfect lieutenant.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Honestly could ANYONE? LOL, that was crazy and what do you think it means? The episode also proved that Drill's talking to Bennigan and not his opposition right?

    ReplyDelete
  8. - Where ever Drill comes from he probably needs a lot of energy now that he's here, or to get here.
    - Yeah, it looks like Drill is talking to Shaun.
    - People in the various Fed divisions not following SOP really irks me. It's there for a reason, and it's not to bind you in read tape. Claire's been doing that all along, but she was really going at that hardcore this episode.

    ReplyDelete
  9. So you think that's why Drill recruited kids? Because he literally wasn't able to be on Earth until now? At first i was on the Drill's opposition talking to Bennigan train when he closed the shaft but then Wes said it wasn't supposed to be closed. It was her son, are you telling me that if your child was in that much danger you would follow some idiotic rules and let your child die?

    ReplyDelete
  10. WTH!??! Who ate the cloud? Was it Drill? Was it whoever is working with Sean? Does it make this creature stronger? Closer to becoming visible?

Well, I'm a grownup and even though I know more than the folks in the show I don't know what's going on. :-) I want to know more. :-)

Well, now we know how Drill works the kids. At least the older kids....he breaks things down into pieces they can't recognize as being good or bad. Though Minx is pretty creepy.

I'm getting annoyed with the bald FBI agent. I suppose some people, even after seeing something *that* atypical né unheard of and he's still asking mundane questions. At least he had Claire's back when it came down to it.

    Loved the episode.

Now. Who ate the nuclear explosion?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm not finished with my theory. The way he's following/tracking the kids just doesn't fit with him working with Drill. Too much of what Drill has done would be a lot easier to accomplish with a smart adult than having to manipulate, piecemeal, a bunch of children.

    ReplyDelete
  12. But Bennigan closed the shaft which WAS Drill's plan so Drill won, so why would Drill's opposition WANT Drill to win?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Considering in the promo the announcer said "5, 4, 3, 2, 1... Here he comes" I'm guessing we're finally going to see Drill. That whole working the kids may work for Henry but who knows with Minx, it could be Drill finally got what he wanted and is ready to implement the invasion.

    ReplyDelete
  14. My thought ( and note...that I do accept that I could be totally wrong..the fun is waiting to see which it is. ) is that Drill's opposition sent Sean to stop Henry from "causing it". But Drill was aware of who Sean is (that he's working for Drill's opposition) and that Sean is Henry's father. By picking Henry to go into the room (instead of Minx) Drill ensured that Sean would go against the opposition's will and stop the flood.

    ReplyDelete
  15. She is the second kid this TV season to make me think of that classic movie The Bad Seed.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh speaking of the count down...MY DVR RECORDING STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PROMO. I'll need to hit the ABC website.

How many eps do we have of this show for the summer? I forgot to look.

I kind of hope we don't get to *see* Drill. I took a horror writing class a long time ago. One of tenets the teacher preached was 'never show the monster.' It's extremely rare for a director in film to follow that tenet and they should because it almost never works. (Check Alien vs. Alien 3) Anyway, I hope we get to understand what Drill wants and why we should be afraid (be very afraid). I don't need to see what it looks like.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Damn that's a hell of a theory! But why would Henry being there matter? He's amnesiac, any kid could've been there and Bennigan wouldn't care.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Damn that sucks! I get that though, do you have Xfinity? Honestly Drill doesn't scare me, his lieutenant Minx does.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sean may not have cared if it were just any kid but...his own child could have sparked Sean's instinct. Henry yelling Daddy would have increased the odds of Sean protecting Henry before human kind.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Apparently that instinct wasn't there because Bennigan went straight to the shaft and closed it, so Drill's opposition underestimated Drill right?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Of course that instinct was there. He shut off the water that was a couple of seconds from killing his son.

Yup. I agree that Drill's opposition underestimated Drill. Drill's got humans figured out pretty darned well. The grown ups poo poo their children't talk about an invisible friend and even after they learn what their kids are up to they dismiss it as an isolated incident. Shoot, even after seeing that cloud do something clouds don't do they're still no seeing the big picture. :-) I like smart villains. I hope we find that Drill is equally matched with smart heroes. That makes everything so much more fun.

    ReplyDelete
  22. That episode was the best by far. I loved every scene, especially that scene in which Drill "ate" the cloud or whatever that happened. I am so looking forward to next week. Minx is really creepy.

    ReplyDelete
  23. He shut the shaft before the water went in because if it went in Drill would lose, so still no instinct. Yeah i see that too, and yeah every good hero needs a good villain.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Seems like drill won the the first game, he ate all that power up before it can spread, that's a huge power up. What game will he play next.
Not it makes me wonder who is whispering to Sean, is it also Drill? If Drill needed to eat the power, then he needed someone to close the water gate, to save someone? But if he is also whispering to Sean then he could of just sent Sean alone to just close the door right? too many question, and I like that. We get just enough each episode.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Drill didn't care about saving someone he just needed the shaft closed so he could "eat" the power. The Wes and Claire stuff made me sick to my stomach, why make two of the lead characters cheating spouses?!

    ReplyDelete
  26. but why would Drill stop talking to Henry himself ?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I kept thinking it looked like the hatch from Lost :) Good amount of suspense. Just wondering what was Drill's point? No one was killed and the plant didn't meltdown. Are there two entities? One being Drill and one being some other entity trying to stop him through Sean? Can't wait to find out.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Drill's point wasn't to kill anyone or to meltdown the plant, it was to "eat" the power from the Nuclear Plant, at the end of this episode Drill won. That's the popular theory, that Drill has opposing entity to his plans and maybe through Bennigan.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Because Drill got what he wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  30. what? Drill dictated to Minx the instructions for Henry, instead of speaking to him directly
Henry: why didn't Drill ask me to do this himself?
    Minx: I don't know maybe he's busy

and the girl in the park, Drill told her to help Henry instead of talking to him himself. why?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Huh you're right, maybe because his mom's Claire and Bennigan may be working against him

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'd rather think Drill IS on earth. his side probably sent him to gather power or something. kinda prepare the earth.

    ReplyDelete
  33. "He shut the shaft before the water went in because if it went in Drill would lose, so still no instinct." I saw 'protect my kid'. It's all in how you interpret the scene. It's why I hang out here. I find the discussions...especially when I'm guessing about what's going on in a good story....interesting and fun.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The little girl on Devious Maids

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh, good question. Maybe because Henry seemed likely to spill the beans to his mother, who would have recognized it's name and taken steps to stop it? We saw that Henry was smart enough to wonder if he should do what Drill was asking because he didn't want to get into trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Feels like a season finale for which I'm glad. This is the kind of progression I want to see in a lot of shows and The Whispers is hitting the right notes because of it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Claire is already pushing Wes away but the guy is the on insisting so he's the one who should really get a reality check.

Plus, Barry Sloane's natural accent popping out of nowhere is only making things worse.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sorry Ivan. Gotta back prpleight on this one. Sean saw Henry in one of the screens when he was at the control room. He was realistic enough that whatever he may be doing, he can't stop himself so wanted the doctor to shoot him. That alone gives me reason enough to believe that Sean quickly came to Henry's rescue to stop the flooding out of his own will and because he cares enough to not let other people get hurt.

Although Henry hugging him was surprising for him, due to his current state, but there's this thing called "sense of connection" which we saw when all the Bennigans gathered in one placed and Claire was embracing his son and missing husband and Sean just let her be.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Great episode. The beast one so far.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow! Minx is a complete sociopath. I fealt sorry for her for a second after watching one of the sneak peeks, I thought she was just a little girl who wanted to keep her parents together, but she is just evil.
Now the parents, the parents are something else. I mean Wes is completely absent from his daughters life; Lena is just stupid and her daughter knows, she even told Henry, that's just sad, I feel bad for her, she makes me feel sorry for her and infuriated at the same time, how blind can you be? Your husband is trying to stop a meltdown, and your 8 year old daughter is at the garage working on a school Project instead of being glood to the tv with you worrying about her dad? How does that not set every alarm bell ringing in your head? seriously!!!; Claire, she seems to be the only caring parent of the trio. I'm not adding Sean to the mix here, because we haven't seen him as a parent.
Claire and Wes.... I saw this coming a mile away. It was pretty obvious, specially after he told his old boss to not act as if he knew what was between the two of them in the second episode... he obviously still has feelings for her. It feels more and more that she was the one that chose her family and he made the same decision by default. Again, poor Lena... she should just leave him and focus on being a good mother, because every episode she sucks at it more.
Now Drill... the manipulative bastard got exactly what he wanted. Well played!!!
It was a great episode, probably the best one yet.
Can't wait to meet Drill next week!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Regarding Wes and Claire, to me it looks like she chose her family, and he stayed with his... by default. TBH, I don't hate them as much as I wish I did. I've always drawn a line at cheaters, but I'm kind of ok with them... I kind of like them... Probably because Lena is stupid and we haven't seen Sean/Claire really interact as couple. I may change my mind next episode with Sean back.

    ReplyDelete
  42. For whatever's worth, I think Minx knows much more than the rest of the kids, she's just like the little girl in Secrets & Lies, she knows it's wrong she just doesn't care as long as she gets what she wants.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Minx is a complete sociopath!!! the way she played off her mother's insecurities was plain scary! The one thing all children have in common (and I mean all children as in every child in the world) is their love for their parents. But the way she manipulated her mom, there's no love there... She is way passed therapy, she needs meds.

    ReplyDelete
  44. She's the second one for me too. The first one is Abby from Secrets & Lies... Nothing says bad seed as and 11 year old planning the death of her step brother...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Lena is really Stupid she acts like a middle school girl or something. Its annoying, to think she survived a horror movie.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yup. That fits the definition all right!

    ReplyDelete
  47. LOL! The worst part is, I actually like the actress. I went into this show feeling extra bad for her, and then they made her this weak character that make me simpathise more with Wes, with the cheater!!! that's unconceivable for me! How is that even posible?!?! But she is so weak, and she is a terrible mom, no wonder Wes went looking elsewhere. And yes, I do realize how horrible that sounds...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Do you think all of this could work, Drill's plans and everything could work if he didn't have Minx?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Show started off with a whodunnit and things got rolling from there, crazy people and everyting.

    ReplyDelete
  50. WOOOOW. That was exhilarating! This episode rocked! I was so stressed out while watching it! And the way everything fits together, that is the best part about this show. I am really in love with this, please ABC, be kind enough to renew it! I am really digging it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I really agree with your last sentence. The best thing about this show is the way it brings everything together, I love it

    ReplyDelete
  52. He seems too young. Until you asked the question I had just been thinking good parenting (as opposed to Minx' parents who have been too preoccupied with their own problems to give her the attention she needs) But now, I'm wondering if, perhaps, something about the illness that left him deaf could affect his dealings with Drill.

    Very interesting question.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Good guy. Check! :-D

    ReplyDelete
  54. LOL My tastes are eclectic. Sci Fi, Horror, Soap Operas (yes, daytime also), Procedurals, Cop Shows, Action. Select few Sitcoms and 2 Reality shows (So You Think You Can Dance and American Ninja Warrior)

    ReplyDelete
  55. That girl gave me the creeps from the get go, she didn't even pretend to be affected , all she cared about was her daddy... And the closing scene where she tell's her mother that it was all the boy's mother fault for not following them to the lake like she had planned, and it dawns in on that poor woman that her child actually killed another child in cold blood... it was jaw drawping.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Drastic, yes, but that's what she is. She's a has no respect for human life, she shows no empathy for the distress she causes, she dimply doesn't care, she doesn't even love her mother. Drill indid chose the perfect lieutenant.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think if it wasn't Minx, it would be somebody else. Sure, maybe it would've complicated things a little bit more, but if she had a heart, he would've used her parents impending separation to get her to get the schematics for him, and then give them to whoever was doing his dirty work.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Wow who knew a show about maids could turn crazy? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  59. You watch daytime soaps?! Why would you do that to yourself?! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  60. True but the rest of what he does is suspect,. he purposefully went to the Plant to have Drill "eat" the power, so maybe Anti-hero?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thanks, yeah when Henry said that he wasn't sure if he wanted to play the "game" anymore he reminded me of the Westings boy that "turned" and then died.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yeah i guess, i guess he's lucky that he doesn't even need to bargain or use her for her to do his bidding right?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Soap operas are quite addicting.

I'm a longtime fan of Days of our Lives when it first aired on my turf then I moved on to Guiding Light and One Life to Live. Afterwards, I've grown accustomed to British, Aussie and NZ soaps as well.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwELCoPALZs

    ReplyDelete
  64. He's indid very lucky she turned out to be such an accommodating girl ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Just can't see the appeal of soaps

    ReplyDelete
  66. Polite way of putting it LOL, wow this show was about an alien planning an invasion, he was the Big Bad and now we technically have 2, Drill and Minx.

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's kinda like why there are those like sci fi so hard, the same way why those who are into reality shows (both competition and otherwise).

    ReplyDelete
  68. You know, I think Drill isn't really aware of what a little gem he has in Minx, she may be more that he bargained for...

    ReplyDelete
  69. No the boy, i think Jackson was his name, before the show started. The first hint of Drill having kids do horrible things, he stopped the e-mail from going to Harper's father.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yeah we can go with that LOL, yeah i can see that ha!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yeah probably LOL, hey maybe when he reveals himself she'll kill him and then take over his plans ha!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Just streamed this episode and to echo some of the other comments: it really rocked and it was very suspenseful. Initially, before the series debuted, I had some misgivings about cute little kids being controlled by some malevolent (alien) force (a la Children Of The Corn or Village Of The Damned) but after watching the first few episodes of The Whisperers I am all in now and find this to be one of the most compelling dramatic series for summer in a very long time, on any network.

    ReplyDelete
  73. A really great episode!!

I will say though: I really don't like Claire... OR Wes... OR Lena....

    ReplyDelete
  74. While I agree Wes is definitely more hung up on Claire than she seems to be on him, and she does seem to want to distance herself from that mess, her whole indignant attitude towards everyone isn't sitting great with me...

    ReplyDelete
  75. Oh My God Yes!! Their the pacing of the show is exceptional!

    ReplyDelete
  76. 100% agree, what are your thoughts on Minx?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yeah we all thought and the characters as well thought the plan was to cause a meltdown but the true plan was to get Drill "dinner" as it were LOL. I've hated that the show made two of the show's lead cheating spouses.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I don't mind that they have that history... I'm not liking how the characters are being painted post-affair.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Well for me i don't like ANY affair-related stuff and i don't how some people do. What's the point of being married if you don't mean it at all?!

    ReplyDelete
  80. the one who tried to stop the explosion?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Bad seed, pure evil, Drill's 'lil be-yotch

    ReplyDelete
  82. Yeah, the kid who's mom was scarred and Claire went to see to find information on Drill.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Yeah all fit LOL, wow at her name, you're totally right ha!
