Lily Rabe was my favorite actress on AHS and she was stellar once again on here.
I also really liked Milo Ventigmilia's character (and liked the twist it was her husband).
With all that being said, I thougt the success and/or failure would ride on two things: The acting of the children and the suspense. Both were spot on. The kids were really (shockingly) good actors and the scenes with Drill and the kids/parents were quite tense.
Overall it was very good. Can't wait for the rest of the season.
This series is gonna be so good and interesting. I love the 3 little children “Drill” has decided to manipulate. The main character will have to be a very good detective to figure what is going on between these children and Drill. I'm most curious about this mysterious rock and what effects it has on people
It was a really great premiere, i was spoiled about John Doe's identity so i wasn't surprised when i found out he was Claire's husband. Drill sounds very Peter Pan-like with not wanting kids that are grown up. That giant rock is very interesting, i wonder what it is.
My thought on the kid's not grown up is the change in the brain chemistry during puberty. I think that when their brains change, they can no longer hear Drill. It's like how they make that buzzing noise that drives teens nuts, but adults can't hear it.
creepy and interesting pilot that gave us some decent intro/set up for what might be coming. It was a bit slowish and predictable, but I love Lily Rabe and thought she was great. I'll continue sampling and see how thing go
There's an audio range that the older you get, the less you can hear it. There's been talk about using the sound as a deterrent to teenagers congregating in certain areas.
I really liked it. I'm just hesitant to get too into a show when the networks are so cancel happy. I thought the storyline was very good and the actors were great. Even the promo for next week looks good. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.
Barry Sloane still sounds British in his American accent as there were instances throughout the premiere that I could hear him unknowingly break into his natural accent. Hopefully, he improves as the show progresses.
personally I like aliens more. if they have good writers and guts they can do so much with aliens, most just think they can't go too far with aliens but you can. plus we have had too much supernatural of late anyways. Even the Messengers went from could be alines to half aliens to full on supernatural.
Also yea Jessup was annoying, everything I see the actor he always plays a similar role that ticks you off for butting heads with the lead.
Clair's Laptop wifi speed kind of pissed me off. They just did that for reaction and suspense... No way a fed has crappy internet speed. even 5 up/down would download that in a few seconds or less.
I just watched the pilot's trailer again and yep, about much of the scenes featured there have been reshot for the actual episode shown and while there's one scene that was dropped altogether, probably for the better.
Yea That's what it looked liked, I didn't want to judge right away but hey... Its a little odd, both men seem like the type that are away for business so why would Claire feel the need to cheat for the same type? whatever to each their own.
Well yeah that too, but i actually found out when Milo did an interview, i think in all honesty the show didn't consider his character's identity a bombshell. I think that's why the actors, producers, sites, etc. revealed it, because they weren't portraying his IDENTITY at least that big a bombshell. I mean why else spoil it right?
Yeah before the series premiered i asked one of the reviewers if we could still sympathize with these characters even though they're cheating spouses. Because ME personally i can't sympathize with characters like these, i don't know about anyone else.
But it was supposed to be the "big reveal" at the end of the episode, and it just didn't add the same effect. I mwan I watched the screener before the show started getting promoted and I was kinda surprised, but you guys obviously weren't.
I based the hope of it being aliens from the first press release. After that I didn't want a promo or read up on anything else till I watched the first episode. Don't have time to read up on everything when I watch too many things.
I read from the THR interview with one of the showrunners where they mentioned that there was a great deal of character backstories told in the original pilot as well as some crucial information about the show's secrets that felt better told across the season instead of dumping it all in one episode.
One scene that was obviously reshot was the part where Lily Rabe's character was opening a old file in the FBI database about an earlier yet similar case about a boy who made a bomb that got himself killed and scarring his mother in the process. The image of the file was different, the kid shown in the photo was different and the entire scene focusing on the computer was shot on a different camera perspective.
Here's the link to the interview: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/whispers-bosses-promise-viewers-will-799026
One scene that was cut out from the actual episode shown was that Barry Sloane's character came back to the US in the pilot and had a meeting with POTUS and some peeps, among a good few noticeable differences.

Obviously by the time we get to the second episode, we'll be seeing the show looking slightly different, looking a little more Canadian (which was in the news last year).
Who knows if the show suddenly enters sci-fi territory by concluding that the angels were indeed aliens, which would explain why The Man came down to Earth via a meteorite.
I think it depends on the situation the characters are in. If they have all moved past the secrets and the reveals, it's the aftermath that will be worth watching for in seeing how they are moving along after all has been said and done.
Yeah i guess when they STOP cheating and actually regret it, it's a little easier to sympathize. I still don't like that they made them cheat AT ALL though.
I almost forgot one important detail about the first episode: I was surprised that they had an actual opening credits when most others shows produced by ABC Studios that air on ABC only use title cards that span 5 to 15 seconds in length.
Maybe haha we can compare one day. I use tvshow time to keep track. It says I spent over 9 months of my life watching tv shows lol. It would be 2 years if I complete my pending list of old shows I never got a chance to watch.
Same here If it's SciFi I'm almost 99% of the time watching it. Supernatural is like 91%, I love it but I just don't like some settings and feel for some of them. Best example is I didn't watch True Blood.
I can get past the title cards, if they are done well (Lost, Gossip Girl, Revenge, The Returned US, OUAT). Not a simple: "Hey, look here, it's the name of our show. And oh! See who created it!" pasted on a black background.
Good pilot. Not the best but a decent starting point.
I thought Lily Rabe had a couple of overacting moments, but other than that, performances were really good. I thought all the kids in particular did pretty well.
Also, I'm gonna venture a guess that it's an alien conspiracy...
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I thought it was really, really good.

ReplyDeletePremiere episode was great! Lily Rabe was awesome. Looking forward to next week and learning more about "the game." :)
ReplyDelete- I didn't like Claire's son. He seemed more like a vehicle for her to express her feelings than an actual person.
ReplyDeleteI loved it, that was an excellent premiere. Really good cast and the child actors were really good too.
ReplyDeleteLOL, the laptop WAS slow wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteMy thought on the kid's not grown up is the change in the brain chemistry during puberty. I think that when their brains change, they can no longer hear Drill. It's like how they make that buzzing noise that drives teens nuts, but adults can't hear it.
ReplyDeleteBuzzing noise?
ReplyDeleteReally really enjoyed The premiere. The hour flew by! Really enjoyed Lily Rabe & surprisingly I like the child actors. Can't wait till next week!
ReplyDeleteNow THAT'S how you begin a show! I'm so glad I'm gonna have something to watch over this summer!!!
ReplyDeletecreepy and interesting pilot that gave us some decent intro/set up for what might be coming. It was a bit slowish and predictable, but I love Lily Rabe and thought she was great. I'll continue sampling and see how thing go
ReplyDeleteThere's an audio range that the older you get, the less you can hear it. There's been talk about using the sound as a deterrent to teenagers congregating in certain areas.
ReplyDeleteIs that even possible? I mean sound just can't disappear or be used as a deterrent, right?
ReplyDeleteThe sound doesn't disappear. You simply lose the ability to hear it.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/23/high-pitch-only-teens-can_n_98304.html
Whoa that's straight out of a sci-fi show! Although when they put the 8hz, is that the sound?
ReplyDeleteI really liked it. I'm just hesitant to get too into a show when the networks are so cancel happy. I thought the storyline was very good and the actors were great. Even the promo for next week looks good. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.
ReplyDeleteThe creator said that they are in NO way leaving us in a cliffhanger, that if worse comes to worst the season will have a satisfying ending.
ReplyDeleteOkay, alums of fave shows checklist:
ReplyDeleteAmerican Horror Story=Check
Revenge=Check
Hollyoaks=Check
Heroes=Check
Nine Lives of Chloe King=Check! :D
She must still have an OS of Microsoft XP installed there based on the email interface alone.
ReplyDeleteBarry Sloane still sounds British in his American accent as there were instances throughout the premiere that I could hear him unknowingly break into his natural accent. Hopefully, he improves as the show progresses.
ReplyDeleteYeah normally i don't heat accents slip when Brits play Americans but this time, it was pretty hard to ignore
ReplyDeleteSci-FI! I'm in. But yea that was awesome.
ReplyDeleteWe get Milo Ventigmilia back, and he connects to it all. I love mysterious person connects to a greater plot.
The kids do a good job of being of freaking their parents out lol.
The first girl lol - luckily she doesn't know what she really did.
Drill Keep doing what you do it keeps things interesting.
Also the Parents seems like the 2 kid's talking to Drill families are connected? maybe an Affair? when?
Anyway I look forward to it all. Please let it be Aliens for sure, and no fake out.
personally I like aliens more. if they have good writers and guts they can do so much with aliens, most just think they can't go too far with aliens but you can.

I just watched the pilot's trailer again and yep, about much of the scenes featured there have been reshot for the actual episode shown and while there's one scene that was dropped altogether, probably for the better.
ReplyDeleteCan you say what was different?
ReplyDeleteYeah it was confirmed, they both cheated on their spouses.
ReplyDeleteYea That's what it looked liked, I didn't want to judge right away but hey... Its a little odd, both men seem like the type that are away for business so why would Claire feel the need to cheat for the same type? whatever to each their own.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural as in... ghosts?
ReplyDeleteThey never said that The Messengers was alien, it was always Angels
ReplyDeleteABC spoiled it by releasing the character name. *shakes head*
ReplyDeleteWell yeah that too, but i actually found out when Milo did an interview, i think in all honesty the show didn't consider his character's identity a bombshell. ReplyDeleteOh wow, then why would they say he was her husband like it was nothing, very strange.
ReplyDeleteI based the hope of it being aliens from the first press release. After that I didn't want a promo or read up on anything else till I watched the first episode. Don't have time to read up on everything when I watch too many things.

Oh huh, so a press release got you to watch it? It's always a promo, that's different.

Who knows if the show suddenly enters sci-fi territory by concluding that the angels were indeed aliens, which would explain why The Man came down to Earth via a meteorite.
ReplyDeleteI was already spoiled when they half-revealed Milo's face in one of the earlier scenes. Just a forehead would explain everything.
ReplyDeleteWait, are you telling me you recognized his character form a FOREHEAD?! how is that even possible, LOL
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on the situation the characters are in. If they have all moved past the secrets and the reveals, it's the aftermath that will be worth watching for in seeing how they are moving along after all has been said and done.
ReplyDeleteI just knew. And STV's advance preview already gave me a heads up so I was mildly spoiled which was no biggie hehe.
ReplyDeleteYeah i guess when they STOP cheating and actually regret it, it's a little easier to sympathize. I still don't like that they made them cheat AT ALL though.
ReplyDeleteWell it doesn't take a lot convincing for me to watch something when I'm watching like over 120 continuing shows ATM.
ReplyDeleteAw you had me there! LOL, still amazing heh
ReplyDeleteI bet i beat you LOL
ReplyDeleteBwehehe
ReplyDeleteI almost forgot one important detail about the first episode: I was surprised that they had an actual opening credits when most others shows produced by ABC Studios that air on ABC only use title cards that span 5 to 15 seconds in length.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah all shows have now are stupid title cards.
ReplyDeleteMaybe haha we can compare one day. I use tvshow time to keep track. It says I spent over 9 months of my life watching tv shows lol. It would be 2 years if I complete my pending list of old shows I never got a chance to watch.

ReplyDelete"What was with Claire's laptop? Does it have dial-up from the 90's" LOL
ReplyDeleteI thought it was good. I am definitely interested in what "Drill" is so I'll be tuning in again.
ReplyDeleteI thought that the premiere was good
ReplyDeleteGood pilot. Not the best but a decent starting point.
ReplyDeleteI thought Lily Rabe had a couple of overacting moments, but other than that, performances were really good. I thought all the kids in particular did pretty well.
Also, I'm gonna venture a guess that it's an alien conspiracy...
I was saying to myself Tom Mason will pop up any minute and get the ball rolling lol
ReplyDeleteWas still waiting for Tom Mason to show up lol
ReplyDeleteYou don't like blackish title card lol
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched Blackish yet. Is it something that screams "oh the title is there, okay...."? hehe
ReplyDeleteits a yellow screen with the word blackish followed by who created it lol
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad because I love the cast, but I just don't feel the story and I won't continue with the series.
ReplyDeleteFor those who don't know : In the original pilot, there was a spaceship above Claire's house at the end.
ReplyDeleteOk so everyone is concted in some way here. And Drill wants to take oevr the world by what? making the kids do stuff?.
ReplyDeleteInteresting tbh
It was awesome! Really enjoyed it
ReplyDeleteHow and where did you get screener from was legal
ReplyDelete
