    - I'm not sure if Lily really believes what she told Caliban or not. She seems like a psychopath who's incapable of love.
    - This looks like the end of Lily & Victor. I sad.

    Wow! What a great episode. Timothy, Sir Malcom, & Billie, Lily, both deserve Emmy's for their performances! Off the charts talented actors!

    great ep with some really interesting reveals with what's really under the surface with Lily and the audience FINALLY getting a gander that the fabled portrait of Dorian Gray, although I am quite curious how that plot will play out in the bigger scope of the series. I loved Sembene getting a bit more onscreen time, forcing Malcom to find his true self to break the spell - and just realizing that Ethan = wolf of God but not getting a chance to tell his realization. I really like the small moment with Viktor/Malcom discussing love and whatnot, and the confrontation between Rusk/Malcom as well. Things are starting to look grim for the crew, but you just know that the witches will be undone by the internal competition going on.... really enjoyed it

    Amazing episode. While I missed our main heroes Vanessa and Ethan, it was great to see the focus on the rest of the team for a change. Including some big reveals as well that sets up the final two episodes of the season perfectly.


    I loved the moment when Sembene made Malcolm realize that something wasn't right with himself. "Remember who you are!" Sembene sure doesn't have a lot of lines, but when he does they sure can be powerful! Malcolm dancing with his family was very The Haunted Mansion esque and it was very cool. And while it was awesome to see him get revenge on Evelyn when the spell broke with going to her mansion and guns blazing, it probably wasn't wise to set out alone. I knew that wasn't going to end well for him. Now he's stuck in that room with the reanimated corpses of his family :(


    Ohhh, Angelique. I knew you weren't long for this world whatsoever. So tragic to see what happened to her but Dorian just wasn't ready to have someone accept him for who he is. At least we finally got a look at the portrait! A painting of all the sins he has made manifested itself into something creepy but oh so beautiful to look at.


    That Lily/Caliban confrontation scene was....WOW!! This was definitely Billie Piper's best work yet. She blew me away with her scary as hell performance in front of Caliban. All those years of being mistreated by men and she was not having any more of it. Should be interesting to see if they succeed in killing Victor and will rule over mankind. That would be HUGE if they actually kill him off and it would be so upsetting since I love his character so much. Save Victor Frankenstein!


    The reveal that Lucifer aka the Devil and Dracula are brothers was very interesting. Now there are two separate entities that are after Vanessa. Oh boy, this battle is going to be tough. I sense that Hecate is going to betray her mother very soon.


    Can't wait for next week! These last two episodes are going to be insane.

    Great episode! That Lily scene was wow! What a performance. Brona/Lily was a meh character this whole series, but that scene just completely put her in a different, more interesting, light.

    It was great to see Sembene taking action. He's very loyal to Sir Malcolm, but that loyalty is never actually felt due to lack of development of the character. That scene, just a few words, really brought out just how much Malcolm means to him. And Malcolm breaking out of the smell caught in his reminisces was beautifully shot.

    Great to see the Dorian portrait, still don't know where his storyline is going, if anywhere, but he's certainly more interesting after the unfortunate poisoning of his former lover

    Also, finally everything is tied together with Dracula being revealed as the brother of Lucifer! I've been scratching my head all season wondering if there is any connection at all. The episode really helped tighten the main storyline.

    It looked like a scorpion to me. And I think tonight's Lily was actually a few different personalities. I think her reflection in the broken mirror is supposed to symbolize that.

    I'm still wondering about Vanessa being his daughter too. It looked a lot like it during that talk "you knew it the minute she was born. (...) she was always your favorite." and such. Good thing someone else got that feeling to.

    I agree as it just seems that there's no good way to have him with the "gang" at this point. I do hope that that like you said we get a little more in depth with his story as well as the Sembene character, who we know fairly little about

    If the show touches Victor Frankenstein, ah ah, I'll riot :P

    I'll start by saying that I absolutely love the fact that John Logan can write a tour de force for Vanessa, and then another one for Vanessa and Ethan... And just when I think such writing solidifies them as the one-two leads of the season, he takes all of the little bread crumbs he's been dropping for us along the way about everyone else, and builds them into a masterful plot-advancing powerhouse episode featuring some of the best acting and character-depth yet without Vanessa or Ethan once appearing on screen.

    I mean... Holy mother of god. That was an astounding performance by Billie Piper. Just wow, Rose Tyler. JUST WOW.

    I don't know about any of you, but I feel like every little doubt I might have had about this season's plot, or what-I-thought was (and now again, is) the ensemble element of this show, was put to rest.

    p.s.: The minute I saw Angelique I thought "Uh oh, there's a bad end coming for this one *cries*

    Wow!!! Fantastic episode! First I have to give massive props to Billie Piper and Timothy Dalton! Every single week I'm blown away by this immensely talented cast!


    One of the things I loved most about this episode is that it finally ties the entire mythology not to mention everything together from last season! Learning there's actually two entities after her gives season one so much more cohesion than it had. For example, Vanessa's demonic possession (while I absolutely loved that episode), seemed almost out of place before the final confrontation with the vampires but now it completely makes sense. Both Lucifer and his brother (Dracula?) want her and as Lyle said they don't get along so I take it they're almost competing with each other to get to her first. And not that we needed much more confirmation but it's without a shadow of a doubt now, Ethan is destined to be her protector (and I'm pretty sure Sembene figured that out in that moment) and wow is she going to need him and as many people as possible on her side. Our Vanessa is very strong and fully capable, but this is a war she can't fight on her own. Especially if the two brothers ever decide to work together.


    So did they plan for this to air on Father's Day or was it just a crazy beautiful coincidence? Because so much of this episode focused on Sir Malcolm and his love of his children. He even had a beautiful fatherly moment with Victor (who should really just move in there...don't go home Victor...your own 'children' are planning to kill you). It was so heartbreaking to see Malcolm have happy moments/memories with his dead children and wife and truly beautiful to hear of his deep love of Vanessa (who he cares for so deeply he was willing to give himself to Evelyn in exchange for her life). Timothy Dalton truly broke my heart in this episode.


    And Billie Piper shook me to the core. Wow Lily...I was smiling during her entire monologue to the Creature...because I was that impressed/horrified by it. Billie had me on the edge of my seat clinging to every word she said. I knew she was a great actress but that scene brought her to a whole new level. I can't wait to see where they go with her character. And the Creature thought he was going to dominate her and she threw him around the room and told him who's boss! She made him look puny and innocent! I loved it!


    I had heard in advance that Vanessa and Ethan weren't in this episode and while I did miss them terribly, this episode certainly lack without them (also they were referenced enough that their presence was still felt). This is one of my favorite episodes of the series. Hands down. I love this show and I can't wait to see how the season ends!

    Who the hell are these immature Trolls that vote awful. This episode was anything but awful. This deserve an amazing vote. So much Went Down in This one and loved seeing the darker side to Dorian. Yes i missed Eva and Josh in This one but it was still a very good episode

    Ladies and gentlemen (fellow posters) this years nominees for "best performance/actor/actress" goes to Eva Green/Penny Dreadful, Timothy Dalton/Penny Dreadful, and Billie Piper/Penny Dreadful or at least that's how it should go after this season/episode of Penny Dreadful, which was just extraordinary (one of the best episodes of the season). I figured Angelique would be a short term character, but it didn't make "her" end any easier for this viewer. Did Evelyn (coven leader) say Vanessa Ives was Sir Malcolm's daughter? After this episode I have to reconsider everything going back to season 1 about this cast of "dark characters". Since the series premiere the assumption is that the main cast/characters are "heroes" and "anti - heroes" fighting the good fight for their own reasons, but what if the writers were presenting us "heroes", "anti - heroes", and "villains to be"?
    Observations:
    - Sir Malcolm: his obsession with chasing his "white whale" has cost him much, but he is filled with regrets and a "good man" nonetheless. (Hero).
    - Vanessa Ives: a "devout" Catholic who is fated to leave "doom and death" in her wake. A charitable volunteer to the less fortunate and a pupil of "witchcraft". Vanessa can trust in her faith and be crushed by her enemies or embrace the "dark teachings" to lay her enemies low, while remembering the "cut - wife's" wrong that to do so means never being a "servant of god again". Vanessa fights the good fight despite standing on the edge of oblivion. (Anti - Hero).
    - Ethan Chandler: on the one - hand brave gunslinger defending the "lady of the hour" Vanessa Ives. On the other - hand he is a "savage beast" who will kill anyone. Ethan fights the good fight, but his "curse" makes him a wildcard. (Anti - Hero).
    - Dorian Grey: mysterious man of excess with a guarded secret he is willing to kill for. Despite his best efforts to charm and win Vanessa Ives affections she rejected his advances due to sensing the dark/wrong/evil within him. Ethan's impulse to kill is beyond his means to control, but this episode Dorian made the decision to kill someone for his own selfish reasons. (Villain to be).
    - Lilly/Brona: she knows (for how long?) that she and Caliban are two of a kind made by the hands of Victor Frankenstein. She seduces men to kill for the purpose of satisfying her fury and rage for past wrongs suffered as a woman. Now she plans to kill Victor Frankenstein so that she and Caliban can feed their "garden" with the blood of humanity (sounds unpleasant for humanity). Lily has deceived, killed, and plans on doing so again. (Villain to be).
    Could Dorian Grey and Lilly/Brona be future antagonist on Penny Dreadful? Already looking forward to next week! 4 A PENNY FULL OF DREAD, I am still Nobody!!!

    I would go with a little of both in this case. The most likely scenario is that Lily has been faking her amnesia the whole time, and that she was just waiting for the right moment to burst out open and reveal the true nature to what she really is. Her memories of Brona of when she has been mistreated by men started to come back once she started mocking Caliban for thinking they could ever be together and now is ready to take it out on the world. Now Brona and Lily are one and the same. She definitely has some bipolar tendencies.


    And I really don't understand the need for killing Victor considering the main goal that Lily wants is to have a zombie apocalypse in a sense (“We are the conquerors. We are the next thousand years. We are the dead.”). Another reason is that Proteus began remembering things from his past life from almost the same exact day that Victor resurrected him. It could be happening to Lily also and has been playing Victor this whole time.

    her memories, She is not like Caliban/John she is the third one Viktor created, The second one was getting his memories back little by little but now with Lily it appears that she probably lasted a day before she started remembering things. She has to, the rage she felt while talking about women and what they do to men had to come from her past life and i wonder if she being kind to Dorian was some of returning the favor cause he was kind to her?
    really that was one of teh ebst moments of this season, all those 20 min from the moment angelique played teh piece to Lily and The creature.

    We know Proteus was starting to remember his former life what seemed fairly early on. I don't know how much and when Lily remembered.
    I think her actions are a response to the feelings her life as Brona provoked in her, but allowed to rise as she finds herself without certain restraints on her character.
    I also assume, through memory resurfacing and a bit of thinking, she understands she was resurrected by Victor, for a given purpose. This is not a woman modified by/for men, but one created so. And I think tonight it clocked that John Clare had been through a similar ordeal, and so their connection. I'm really curious about John, now.

    Since she was reanimated from just one body, I think those memories where still there. The brain remembers every experience, face, word, smell. The problem is recalling those memories. But she may have being playing everyone to an extent. All this time she was saying how Jon's face frightened her, until this episode. But now I think back to their first meeting, she reached out to him. If she was completely Lily I don't see why she would kill that man, but certainly some fascination with death began at the wax museum. Maybe what Dorian said about experimentation kicked something loose about reanimation and started the chain reaction. In this episode, Jon didn't even say Victor created them, so how would she know? Unless the memory of Victor killing her resurfaced. Then the next thing she sees is him, maybe she put it together with the doctor "experimentation". I always thought it was strange that she never asked Victor why she was naked in a tub of water.
