  2. Wow, this episode was incredible. This season continues to exceed my expectations far more than I ever could have imagined. Not one misstep so far.

Ohhh Malcolm. Evelyn Pool has you wrapped around her little finger. This will surely backfire on him and our group in a big way. And holy shit at poor Gladys suffering so much pain and hallucinating their children, Peter and Nina which caused her to commit suicide. That was so horrifying and messed up. Evelyn really is so damn powerful.

The relationship between Dorian/Angelique really strengthened tonight and I like them together. They really opened up and understand one another. Let's just hope that this won't end disastrous for Dorian. And even though his storyline is REALLY separated from our main group, I still find his character interesting for some reason.

My sweet sweet Victor. He really tried resisting Lily but it just wasn't happening whatsoever. I have a feeling that Ethan is going to find out what has been happening to Brona very soon and he is going to give poor Victor hell. I'll just enjoy their relationship for the time being before all hell breaks loose. Loved that dinner scene with them and Vanessa.

Looks like the guy that Ethan tore apart at the Inn is going to come back with a vengeance! Next week should be another interesting one. Can't wait to see what the second half of the season has in store for us.

  4. We have a man + trans woman sex scene with nudity and we have a sex scene with a man in his 70s—albeit one who doesn't look like he's in his 70s. Maybe some day soon that will be something no one raises an eyebrow at (hopefully), but today that kind of thing is very nearly unheard of. Penny Dreadful is quite good at pushing the envelope without sacrificing character (the best thing of the show) or story /the slowest bit somehow) in the process, which I must say I appreciate.

    Man, I adore this show.

  6. By the end of the episode I was like god damn everyone is having sex this episode. I'm like Ethan almost got some but Vanessa said not yet but soon with that hand gesture.

Man I hate those police interference plots in supernatural series, but I like how Ethan was handling himself. And like Rusk is not a bad guy he just wants to solve a murder, so no hate on him; just that plot.

I wonder why Evelyn killed Malcolm's wife how it will affect Malcom. I mean she was never in the picture till.

Creature need to just make nicer with the blind chick then all his problems will be solved.

Frankenstein and Brona/Lily was expected the only thing that scares me is Creatures reaction to this. He also just need to hang out with Vanessa group that way he will find a bigger purpose in taking down the other supernatural beings to come.

Also Vanessa should of recognized Brona/Lily right? She say her once before.

Great episode as always, loving so much this show!

I was totally expecting that Vanessa would recognize Lily/Brona then I was WTF when she didn't. Ok, so let's take a look back at season 1 in that particular scene between them and okay, Nessa barely looks at Brona, she's all over Ethan and Dorian during their conversation, so I assume that it's really okay.

I love how PD makes sex just a natural thing. Those moments between Dorian/Angelique , Malcolm/Evelyn, Victor/Brona, they're all expected and the montage worked perfectly to them in general. Specially with that piece of score, the devil's theme song. It's always our personal sound alert to "Looks romantic and beautiful, but this is not gonna end well".

Of course, the sexual tension between Ethan and Vanessa is growing and their "thing" couldn't be in a montage, so when it happens, it wll be really something. A possessed by the devil woman with a werewolf... Man, can't wait to see this!

Gladys, dear lord, what a terrible way to die. The glimpse of sanity in her final seconds was the worst, that was the curse telling her "see? All I wanted you to do was this, thanks."

"Fantastic episode. These witches are insane" (Michael, a few comments below). I totally second that.

  8. Another fantastic episode.

Love the montage of them safeguarding the house and learning more about Ethan's past.

I loved the scenes between Ethan and Vanessa. The first one was very sweet and I hope Vanessa was finally able to get some sleep. She's looks more and more like she desperately needs it. And then of course the scene between them on the stairs, that was some intense sexual tension. Wow, the chemistry of those two just jumps off the screen. I'm glad nothing happened though...especially with that music in the background. I also think they're both a bit scared and given what they're dealing with inside them, it's completely understandable.

At first, I was worried that Dorian was only interested in Angelique for the scandal. I'm very happy to see that he really does care about her and accepts her for who she is. That was a nice scene. Though I have a feeling that their relationship is going to end badly and that there's more to Angelique than what we've seen. Again the devil's theme music didn't help with that.

Enjoyed the interrogation scene with Ethan and the inspector. He definitely knows what he's doing. Hardly gave any detail, kept a straight face but answered the questions just enough to divert suspicion. And then knew he would have to ditch the tail. Also, is his last name not Chandler? I was a bit confused by that...

"All sad people like poetry. Happy people like songs." I really love Vanessa's friendship with the Creature. Their little dance had me smiling the whole time. It was very sweet and the music really helped sell that. In some ways he's so terrible but in others he's very innocent and I can't help but feel for him. Which is a testament to Rory.

At first I was really surprised when Vanessa didn't recognize Brona/Lily but when I went back to look at that scene at the theater I understand why. It was very brief, they barely made eye contact, Brona/Lily looks so different now with a different accent and Vanessa was far more focused on Dorian and Ethan at the time. She also thinks Brona's dead so she has no reason to even subconsciously expect to see her around. She's keenly observant yes but I don't think she has a photographic memory. They met months ago and Vanessa's been through a lot since then.

Gladys Murray...what a horrific way to go. Slitting her throat because she's hallucinating her dead children...damn. I thought the Vanessa doll was creepy enough but they surpassed the creepiness with the doll of Malcolm's wife.

Lily and Victor...yeah I knew that was coming. I'm really glad they didn't include it in the montage with the dark music. I'm also very glad that she's the one who initiated it and he actually tried to resist at first. It was also cute how it started out with her jumping into his bed because she's afraid of the storm. She also appears to be afraid of the Creature and I can't see this ending well when he finds out. I also can't see this going well for Victor if/when Lily gets her memory back.

We're halfway through the season now, can't wait to see where the second half takes it.

  9. ethan and vanessa's scene at the stairs was hotter that all of the sex scenes montages lol

  10. Some people say its pace is too slow, but be patient guys. All great works take time.

  11. I have a small question - why did Evelyn Poole prick Malcolm with her
ring? And that too twice? Once while they were having drinks and the
second time when they were having sex. Was it necessary to complete the
spell against Malcolm's wife that led to her suicide? Or was it for some
    another, more nefarious reason?

  12. I was glad that they didn't have sex. Time and the place where they are in their lives wasn't just right. But I am pretty sure they will hook up by the end of this season.

Regarding all the other sex scenes in this episode, I liked the Victor/Lily scene quite a bit. Full of initial hesitation, fears, vulnerability and passion.

  13. I like the pace of this show. The horror, suspense is great but the real treasure lies in the character interactions/conversations. I love all the different interactions on this show.

  14. I think it's for teh love spell to work and him doing her bidding.

  15. One thing of shows like this is that the slow burning will elad to great things at the end. This episode move forward some things a little bit.
i was so frustrated with that end. Mr. Malcolms's wife dead and how it happened, poor wwoman doesnt have anything to do with all that shit and yet she is a victim.
Mr. Malcom falling for the witch. Ethan being interrogated, Dorian and Angelique those were great moments of this episode.
I feel sad for John, he is so set that the woman for him is Likly that he doesnt look somewhere else. He said to Lily "Kind eyes can look at anything and find it beautiful" and i remembered Lavinia talking about him when he described his eyes and she didnt say a bad thing.
John and Vanessa's scenes are always a delight to watch, they talk of the most inetresting subjects and certainly are always good moments of the episode.

  16. I always get confused for a second when fans address the Creature as John. My mind is firmly fixated on him being the Creature and nothing else. It's true that he is trying to change, opening up etc but underneath all that is a vicious being quick to anger/rage. Witness how he grabbed Victor's neck in this episode and I can never forget how he murdered Proteus and Van Helsing.

  17. I have a hard time too but i call him John cause that is how he wanted because he is tryng and i think he knows how really dark he is, he always looses his temper with Frankestein and after this if he finds out, he will go definetly m ad cause he will belive Frank betrayed him one more time and did what he did on purpose.

  18. yeah, their chemistry is amazing but i'm dreading when ethan sees them together ...

  19. If they stay true to the original Frankenstein, I believe Calaban will kill Lily as revenge upon Victor in the season finale.

  20. What if Angelique discovers Dorian's portrait? How will she react? Will Dorian end up killing her?

    ReplyDelete
  21. This show is a gem. The subtle nuances make this show compelling. Vanessa's character is multi faceted and she is, by far, my favorite character.

I know they want to protect Sir Malcom's home. Why can't Vanessa do the same type of spell that the Cut Wife did?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't even remember this. Which portrait? Maybe I need to go back and watch season 1 again.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I still think Angeligue knows more than he lets on.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If I remember correctly, we never saw the actual portrait. We only saw Dorian unveiling a big one and then staring at it.
