That was actually way better than I expected! I honestly went in with low expectations and while I wasn't blown away by anything, I gotta admit that was a hell of a lot of fun. Dutch was absolute badass during that hallway fight sequence with the guards. And loved the sibling dynamic between Johnny and D'avin. I'm really intrigued in learning more about Dutch and her past. Kudos to the soundtrack choices as well! That was one of my favorite parts of the premiere. Overall, I'll definitely be tuning in to Killjoys every week. Congrats, Syfy! You have another great entry in your programming. Don't mess it up.
I really liked it. There were a few things but I think only because it's the pilot and they're trying to lay groundwork for the season. They didn't take away from hiw much I liked it. I'll definitely keep watching. Also- Dutch.
Loved the music too and Dutch! I love finding new characters. I'm not a fan of spiders at all so I don't care if they're computer generated or real, lol. They make me hurt myself.
That was a lot better than I expected. There were some things I didn't like but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt for now. It didn't blow me away as much as Dark Matter but I'm still impressed. This and Dark Matter will make a very nice pair :) I loved that qoute Lucy; "Understood, ass kicking imminent".
wasn't blown away, but a pretty good start with the character intro/ show set up. Really like the Dutch character the most so far and expect that the others will get development in time. curious to see how things will proceed with the missions/favors that Dutch's "teacher" (who was also on Dark Matter's ep tonight as well, lol) expects her to fulfill... But so far decent start and I'll be back
Nope, in Dominion's case I'd imagine it's because of the nudity, even a small amount can bump up the rating. I didn't really notice anything in the pilot of Killjoys to make it TV-MA but there must be something later on.
Oh yeah I definitely see the potential that this show has! I'm sure that they will fix out the kinks and once it's all said and done, this show will be a real fun adventure with our Killjoys.
Network TV- is like a rated PG movie HBO- is like an R rated movie basic cable with the TV-MA warning- is like a PG 13 movie. I think in a PG-13 film the four letter word that begins with "F" might be allowed once or twice, while basic cable with TV-MA usually only allows the four letter word that begins with "S".
Hannah John-Kamen (Dutch) was great. The ship was fun. The scene with the teacher/mentor was very intriguing. The two male characters though were not interesting and that is a problem when a show only has three regular cast members.
Really enjoyed this premiere, and this was probably the summer show I was feeling the most anxious about. As soon as it was announced, it was looking to be my Being Human replacement, since it was boasting a trio lead with great chemistry, and that's what I missed most about Being Human. There is definitely the start of that chemistry evident in Killjoys, and the action, production values, and world-building are already looking pretty great.
Also, I've noticed something on several sites where it seems so far SyFy audiences have begun separating into a 'Team Killjoys or Team Dark Matter' kind of thing. Hope this doesn't become a contentious thing, not with how excited we should all be to have multiple good sci-fi shows back on the air.
This show just didn't click with me. When they said intergalactic bounty hunters, I was thinking aliens. I would have liked to have seen all kinds of aliens for them to get. I liked Dark Matter so much better than this show. So, I guess I'll be skipping this one. I'm picky about what new shows I watch.
I really enjoyed it a lot. It has some work to do with the brothers (show me more don't tell me more) but Dutch is amazing. I love her so much after just one episode. Thanks Canada for this lovely co-production. Wish this and Dark Matters got a spot at SDCC but alas they're co-owned so it's a no-go. Booooo. They're both 2 great space-set sci-fi shows so I'm in love. I've missed them!
It's scifi so I'm gonna watch it for sure. But for me it was just alright because of bad set up and backstory. I certainly liked Dark Matter more then this.
I liked the Killjoy aspect of the show and all the rules. And I like that they are trying to establish location on multiple locations on their solar system, and that they got a space ship but but sad there is no FTL; but that's ok.
I also liked Dutch and her Assassin style backstory but don't like her mentor seemed off to me. And I don't mind her leading.
The brothers also were good tho it's seems like D'avin is gonna be the more dominate one, which I don't care as long as I see what merit John had for him to have been a Killjoy this long.
The one thing I didn't like was John and Dutch have been partners for 6 years living and working together on a spaceship for this long and don't know much about each other. And now I'm sure we will see them getting to know more but then it's like you only see all when the viewers do.
It has some issues it needs to work out for it to be a show I look forward to - or even watch - on a weekly basis, but it had an original premise I found interesting.
The main issue I had with it is that none of the lead characters pulled me in. I did find the secondary characters like Khlyen and Bellus more interesting though and maybe the leads will grow on me...
I'm not sure it can ever be a show I get excited for each week, but it could be some light escapism to add to my limited Summer TV schedule....
Thank god it was more fun than Dark Matter was. I mean both shows have issues of being predictable and full of tired tropes and please can we have a show where a man doesn't check out a woman's ass? But Killjoys was a hell of a lot of fun and I'm far more interested in the characters than I was with Dark Matter.
How Freaking Awesome is Dutch, damn that scene has got to be my favourite so far!! Totally enjoyed this show, I love the thing between Johnny and her, and was kind of fond of D'avin. Loved it!!
Its funny to see Robert Stewart on 2 different shows at roughly the same time playing 2 quite different characters. Much preferred him on this show to Dark Matter.
Also in regard to Dutch I had a feeling the 'Dont kill' policy was a bit of a front. I think Johnny is actually going to be a pretty interesting character too.
I think the nudity might be later. Its the swear words that probably triggered it in the first episode but thank shit for that, because I dislike it when people do not 'curse' in the future.
You get this vibe from Dutch and Johnny that they went 'there' or at least close to being there and it didnt pan out. At least I hope so. We want to avoid any love triangles. Give Johnny a Girl in each port or something.
I did like the references to Johnny not being cut out of this line of work. It would be hillarious if had of been a desk jockey or Accountant or something mundane before he was recruited into this line of work. Give the character something that makes him distinct!. His brother has the former soldier angle thing going.
GREAT start. (I think being a bit disappointed by the promos and having kept my expectations low might have helped) I liked the characters and the dynamics between them. And I found the world super intriguing. Hope they can keep it up, but I know I'm looking forward for more!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteLoved the scene where Dutch took off her necklace (or something) and they turned into spider robots, so cool!
Dutch is badass!
I loved the music, the score especially which is by the amazing Trevor Yuile who is excellent on Orphan Black!

This is why I love this place. It wasn't perfect but we're all seeing to great potential. I think it's going to grow. It was fun to watch.

ReplyDeletePretty good show, still hate that it's rated tv-ma but hopefully it's not GoT level tv-ma.
ReplyDeleteDominion is rated tv-ma as well but it's not that bad at all.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean, doesn't any tv-ma show mean that it's just like the HBO shows? A lot of graphic of well everything?
ReplyDeletewasn't blown away, but a pretty good start with the character intro/ show set up. ReplyDeleteThe four letter word that begins with the letter "S" was uttered at least 3 times, thus the TV-MA warning for language. Not sure about the violence.
ReplyDeleteI got the feeling they hated being called Killjoys but that was thrown out the window when Dutch called them Killjoys.
ReplyDeleteNetwork TV- is like a rated PG movie

ReplyDeletewhat about AMC they had that drug show and they had HBO level language and all graphicness right?

ReplyDeleteHad no expectations, low or high. Really actually liked it a lot, very fun. I wasn't blown away, but I am looking forward to the next episode.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have several shows besides Haven that I'm motivated to keep up with on a weekly basis (rather than saving them for later sometime).
I really enjoyed it a lot. It has some work to do with the brothers (show me more don't tell me more) but Dutch is amazing. I love her so much after just one episode. ReplyDeletein this case count me on the Killjoyw team! (joking!).It is way better than dark matter. I'm finished with dark matter.

ReplyDeleteI can handle the "S" word but i hope there's NO nudity.
ReplyDeleteAaron Ashmore called his character the pacifist of the group.
ReplyDeleteWell John called Dutch "family' so i don't think they ever went "there" to say the truth.
ReplyDeleteI have no issue with it. I hope there IS nudity and f bombs because we arnt watching Star Trek here. We want a gritty future.
ReplyDeleteGREAT start. (I think being a bit disappointed by the promos and having kept my expectations low might have helped)
ReplyDeleteI liked the characters and the dynamics between them. And I found the world super intriguing. Hope they can keep it up, but I know I'm looking forward for more!
I thought it was good. Acting was iffy but overall I will continue watching.
